The cake was pretty good. The interior was light and fluffy. There were two layers of cake separated by some cream frosting. The white chocolate curls on the outside have the cake some texture. Consider these two ads both with Prime Rib on sale for the holiday. Which is the better buy? Look closely at the ads if you think it's Safeway, because there is something missing on the Safeway ad. It's the rating. Why is it missing from the Safeway ad? It's because it isn't USDA Choice like the Fry's ad idicates and is what you expect. The Safeway Rib Roast is USDA Select, a far inferior cut of meat than USDA Choice. Now, if you ask them what the rating is, they will honestly tell you, but is it really honest to leave it up to the customer to ask what the quality is when they expect to be USDA Choice? I hate to see families expecting a very special meal to be as disappointed as I was several years ago when I discovered this practice of the Safeway stores. I actually threw the last one out when I tried to roast it and found it, in my mind, as unfit for guests. read more

This morning, I was at Safeway, and at check out, I went to self check out as usual. There is always the same lady there, and she is rude. This morning, for some reason, they only had 3 of the eight check outs open. The girls before me had the same amount in their cart as I did, and you can tell they had money. I was almost done and asked this lady to take off one of my items. She came over and started yelling at me. She said, you are the reason there's a back line. This is only for small purchases. I said, really I have every right to be here as anyone else and I don't see a sign stating it's for 10 items or less. I made sure everyone heard me. She started walking off and I said, oh it's because I'm not skinny and rich,that's why you're treating me like this. I was near the customer service desk and asked the guy if he could call a manager and then asked him if I could get some money orders. When she heard the call for the manager, she came over to me and tried to apologize and not to call the manager. I told her I didn't accept it and she only came over because I called her a manager. They guy gave me my money orders as the manager came up. She came over to try to hear our conversation. I told him I didn't want to speak until she left the area. I told him everything and when I got to the part of being fat and not rich, I started crying. As I turned in her direction she was staring at me with evil looks. The manager asked me if I wanted to talk to her, and I said no, but I wanted him too. I cried all the way home in my Uber. read more

Don't know what has happened since a new store manager took over a few years ago. The staff has become very unfriendly and rarely if ever even establish eye contact with the customers or share a smile. No retail establishment should have a staff with an attitude like this towards its customers. There also seems to be a big turnover. Having spent thousands a month at this location over the past several years I will drive a little further to Whole Foods or Sprouts where the staff doesn't act sullen and unhappy with their heads down. read more

Wow, its been 2 weeks now. I was here at this Safeway 2 weeks ago to grab some lunch and their chicken wings. Their selections of Chicken wings are so good. Mac salad is good to in the Deli area. This store location was so awefully clean and neat. Customer Service is great here. They also have a Starbucks inside the store. Its in a quite somewhat busy shopping area. This is the WORST pharmacy I have ever dealt with. The black old dude is always talking to his customers for SO long. I was 40+ weeks pregnant and he clearly saw me on my feet and made me wait 20 minutes because he was talking to a customer about a MOVIE. Good luck trying to get ahold of ANYBODY, I've called 5 times this week, left multiple voice messages about a prescription and not one person has gotten back to me. Mixed review: I have to say that the clerks and cashiers are always super nice and friendly at this location! However, the pharmacy leaves a bit to be desired. They are soooooo sloooooow, and the pharmacy staff never seems to have any sense of urgency when dealing with customers. They are nice enough, but they don't seem to give a hoot about u or your time. Apparently it is now Safeway policy to allow people to wander around their stores without masks, even when that's illegal, as it is in Phoenix. Because I was just in this store, and there were two young men, one coughing, wandering around without masks. I informed the cashier, who informed the manager, who just nodded in response and I then saw him walk past those gentlemen as they were (quietly, that time) coughing around customers at the self-checkout, and he said nothing. Now, we know Safeway would call the police on any other crime being committed in their store, why not this one? Sad, because Safeway had been my go to place, and good on mask requirements, but if their company policy is now to willingly put myself and my family in danger, I'll have to stop shopping at their stores. We have coming to this Safeway for years now. The cashiers are really nice and greet us by name. It is clean and well stalked.

Not a big fan of Safeway, but this location is a really good store. Everything is always well stocked and clean. I don't think I've ever been in this store while they were stocking, so that's always a plus in my book. Nothing more frustrating than having to see boxes and boxes of stuff needing to be placed on shelves. I love the selection of fresh flowers at this location. They are always so bright and fresh. No brown and old flowers and plants at this location. They always have flowers for the season. This store has a great selection of everything that I would ever buy at a grocery store, but most are more expensive than what I'd pay at my normal spots, however, I have found and bought some amazing items at awesome prices. Just have to do your research and bring in those coupons. Another nice feature for this store is the fact that they have a Starbucks inside of it. Never been to the Starbucks, but the workers there are so high beat. I can hear them throughout the store! read more

Regarding the digital coupons that they advertise, I've had several issues I clicked the coupon but on numerous occasions when I go to check out it does not give me the discount. It has always required me to go back to the customer service desk wait in line again and then get my money back seems like always a lot of effort to try and hold them accountable for what they advertise. Today a brand new issue it was advertise that on Friday there was a Starbucks sale coffee and pastry for five dollars. I ordered a coffee and Muffin sandwich end it rang up over $10. I asked if there wasn't a discount even though I'd already entered my phone/card number and the lady said no. I go to the customer service desk to voice my concern. They say you didn't order the right things. I said I asked about what was the discount and they said there wasn't.Customer service was not going to do anything about that. Very disappointing think I will also share this with my Facebook and LinkedIn people as I believe social media has some clout. read more

Friendly staff, some of which I've seen for 20 years. Some since the old location at 19th ave and Thunderbird. It's such a convenient location for Moon Valley, I just wish it was a Fry's nearly every time I'm there. There were great improvements during the remodel a few years ago but they still fall short in areas like the deli. I consider 7pm the middle of dinner time. I would say with much of the city leaving work around 5pm to fight rush hour that dinner for many is between 6-8pm. If you fight traffic from work to this Safeway and arrive at 6pm, you will find nothing fresh left in the deli and old wings drying and dying under the lamps of the wing bar. If you get there at 7 in the heart of dinner time, you will find a closed wing bar and nearly everything in the deli put away. No more entrees, no more sides. In contrast if you continue on to Fry's you will find corn dogs, burritos, wings, fried chicken and a huge array of sides. "But people don't come in and buy it, we throw out food." People don't come in and buy what is not available. We know by now what type of disappointment to expect. This is an easy fix, this store can make huge improvements if they pay attention to some customer engagement and make easy changes. read more

"thankfully, I was able to drive to the seventh Street and Glendale store to get what I was looking for before at 7:57PM. if you have a choice, do not ever go to this store. They suck!!! every department is awful and I will never ever go back I would give it ZERO STARS if that were an option. Avoid this place, you'll thank me. read more

2 registers open after 7pm on a Sunday. You have one cashier writing literally a book of rain checks for someone then in the other lane a person forgets their wallet to where we're stuck waiting forever. I stood in line for 10-15 minutes just to purchase a drink and a pack of gum. If you have all the time in the world and love to wait in line then this is your location! Very hesitant on coming back even though I live 3 minutes away. Edit: I came back and still regret it. Such an awkward experience checking out at any registers. Please hire employees that know how to talk to guests Instead of being silent the entire time. I find it outrageous that half the time I leave this store I check out in complete silence; no how's it going, no have a great day, nothing. Always had issues with things being a hassle with this pharmacy but ease of convenience kept me going. Not anymore, I happened to notice one of my pills didn't look right in a prescription I had been taking for almost a week. I looked it up to see if it was just a case of a different manufacturer's pill being used to make up the difference. Fortunately it was the same medicine but double the dosage, which I was already having to take 2 multiple times a day...I guess this also may explain why some other dosings I got sick afterwards and others I was fine... If this happens once who knows how many other times and with possibly more dangerous meds this has happened or may happen if the staff stays the same. read more

It used to be my regular grocery spot but they have really let things slide, lately. Recently, I was picking up some yogurt (the store brand bartlet pear is one of my favorite flavors!) and found most of what was on the shelf in the flavor I wanted to have expired. NOT GOOD. Especially since the nearby Fry's used to be scary but it's not any more. Not to mention there's a Fresh & Easy and an AJs across the street. I really love Safeway. Their prices are sometimes more expensive than other grocery stores, but I can always depend on Safeway stores being clean, bright and have friendly service. The employees there are always so nice and helpful. They seem like they enjoy working there. I also love their Just4U app that gives extra discounts and even freebies! I have lived down the street from this Safeway for about 6 years and it's always clean and they always have what I am looking for. Including odd things like free apartment guides and money orders. The staff is always so nice and the store itself is usually fully stocked. I have never seen this Safeway get really packed (which is a good thing)! First I will say that I've been a Safeway shopper for as long as I can remember. I moved to Moon Valley in 2006 and this particular location is the most convenient; HOWEVER, I rarely go there as inevitably they'll be out of an item on my list. Tonight I only needed the snack pack jello thats stocked in the bakery isle so decided to go there rather than drive up to Bell and sure enough, they were out. I had hoped they would fix the stocking deficiencies after the remodel but nope. I wish they would get their act together. I live on Thunderbird and drive to the Safeway at either Bell or Glendale which is a great deal further but far more likely to have everything on my list. I give the 2 stars only because I'm still a Safeway shopper. read more

By far my favorite grocery stores. I especially appreciate and have grown fond of the employees in the store. Mike one of managers will order what you want if humanly possible. Who sells olive juice for a dirty martini in town other than other than AJs and a popular wine store in Phoenix? It would be awesome for me if Safeway sold this item. Mike said today he would check it out. I've been going here for many years. Jessica who is in fresh produce will give you a taste of something that you're interested in. For example she gave me two varieties of pears to try. Once I need 3 fresh bulk mushrooms. At the time they didn't have any so she broke open a package of mushrooms. Anything within reason I need she complies. ALL of the employees go out of their way to please your needs. I believe their prices are comparable in the long run especially if you join it's Safeway program I can't say enough about the pharmacy: Hoang Ho pharmacy manager, Clarence pharmacist, James assistant. My husband and I transferred every prescription we have, over 25, to Safeway pharmacy. Hoang, Clarence, James take care of our personal needs with great professionalism. In fact if you transfer a prescription from another store to Safeway you receive a $25 gift card. Also I got a flu shot at Safeway and got a $10 gift card. Always good deals always good service. I felt discriminated at the store for being Hispanic. This is the second time I have this experience with the same employee being rude. Her name was Linda and she kept eyeing us when we were scanning our things. The machine then said to put items back on scale then to remove the bag. Linda (self checkout employee) proceeded to say I did not scan all the items in the bag. She was very rude and I told her there was no need to be rude, she started mumbling things under her breath. Then she scanned an item I had already scanned because supposedly I had not yet scanned it. I told her "give me the bag (with scanned items) and I will just go to a register". She did not hand me the bag she dumped all the items in my cart. One of the yogurts I had gotten popped in my cart when she dumped my things in the cart. I then called the store to make a complain with the manager, Michael who was not in the store at the moment. He was supposed to call me back and I received no call back. I was very upset because other employees saw this happening and not one of them said sorry that you had a bad experience. read more
