While I used to frequent Fry's and Albertsons in the area, I have found that Safeway has had some better promotions over the last few years. This is one of the two locations that my wife and I frequent. My wife and I frequent this location on regular weekend visits as we work off our shopping list each Sunday. This is also the location where we used the curbside pick-up option throughout the pandemic. Also, with FreshPass, you can save 5% off pick-ups (up to $5 off). I have appreciated the customer service team at this store as I have had to ask about a promotion that didn't ring up correctly or an item typed in by a cashier was rung up incorrectly. The customer service employees have been helpful and worked to resolve requests and concerns in the past. I also recall visiting this store when Safeway and Albertsons had their annual Monopoly game way back when and then the Flavor Adventure through the app a few years ago, too. While I haven't taken advantage of the curbside pick-up at this location, I know it is offered here. I do have a membership for FreshPass (which I got this past year at the 50% off promotion). There are great sales from the weekly doorbuster sales to daily promotions to Friday or weekend promotions to general sales prices. For approximately $99 per year (or the occasional $49 promotional price), you can sign up for FreshPass, which includes unlimited free delivery on orders over $30, $5 monthly credit for annual subscribers, earn 2X points on our exclusive brands, save 5% on O Organics, Open Nature, or Signature Pet Care, points don't expire, a VIP phone line, and monthly exclusive Starbucks perks. Safeway, Safeway, is the neighborhood...store. I don't do a lot of cooking, but sometimes I come here for a quick item or two. They have an okay selection of vegan and veggie meat alternatives in the frozen section, as well as some vegan ice cream and frozen desserts. The veggie hot dogs and veggie lunch meat are mixed in with the regular meats in those sections. Prices here are generally cheaper than Fry's. Get one of their free loyalty cards and save even more money. Also, they accept virtual coupons; just show them on your phone. There is a Starbucks and a US Bank inside this location. read more

This is my hands-down, favorite Safeway of all time. The store is so clean and always stocked. The staff is always so friendly and so amazing. Everyone is always so helpful. I love getting sandwiches and fresh chicken strips from the deli it's great stop for lunch! The liquor section is huge this Safeway has a huge hard liquor, beer, wine selection, and sells liquor from 6 AM to 10 PM. The worst Safeway ever! It's a sad place with sad staff who don't care! I stop shopping at safe way because of this particular store and also the whole company that does not care about the customers and even their staff! Every time I go there takes hours because of all the errors and shortage of staff and tired and unhappy staff who really don't pay attention and have to be reminded then show attitude and rudeness instead of doing it right and basically all the other reasons that should not exist in a grocery shop like that and is all blamed on the company!!! Bought $25 of qualifying items to get $25 off Phoenix open. Qualifying items are overpriced like $2.49 for a 2 liter. So I bought. You are required to buy the ticket through a website and it has an $18 fee. So I bought overpriced items to save $7. What a waste of time and total rip-off. Skip this store, and drive 2 miles east if you expect to find the advertised items. This store has indifferent staff, and usually has few of their advertised sale items on the shelf. It's got to be the store, because driving 2 miles east on Greenway gets you to a Safeway that has sale items, and attentive staff. Worst birthday cake I've purchased in a long time...they couldn't even get the cloud decoration right that I requested and it was such an easy request! Why even take personalized orders if you're just going to do what you want anyways...all I wanted was a blue cake with tiny clouds all over. Instead I got big blobs of white icing in the middle of the cake. And not to mention the cake tasted horrible. Barely any cake, just tons and tons of icing...no one liked it. Safeway is fairly decent for a quick lunch. My coworkers and I enjoy grabbing food at the deli counter occasionally. The counter employees are normally the same each time we go, and they're always nice, they know who we are. Same goes for the other store employees as well. The food quality is pretty consistently tasty and amazing - I really love their Turkey Pesto Avocado sammich, the broccoli soup, and the potato soup! What kills me though are their prices! I want to equate them to more expensive than Target groceries, which can be a little pricey in the first place. Not sure if it is reflective of the North Scottsdale/Phoenix area, but paying ~$10 for a sandwich and an apple seems a little much. read more

I have been a loyal customer here for a few years, and their floral department is outstanding. Out of concern I have to speak out. For the past 6 months there have been too many instances of bringing home food (milk, cheese, meat) that spoils in a day or two before you even break the seal. And the quality of fruits and vegetables have become so poor I won't buy them. Something is up, maybe they have a refrigeration or food handling problem. Or maybe they are going to close the location and just don't care. Either way, I now have taken my business to Fryes across the street. If a regional manager reads this and wishes to talk about it, reply with a contact I would be happy to. Something is definitely up, and loyal or not I won't shop there anymore. I was looking for some bagel platters for a recent party, and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of options that Safeway has online for catering trays. This location ranks among the most convenient for me due to it's location, service, and amount of employees stationed on the checkout lines. I would honestly rate it a 4 or even a 5. And then there's the bakery department. The quality of the in store products is appalling to say the least. Case in point: the cheesecake. After eating half of the store made cheesecake I came to the grim conclusion that there is no possible way that there is any cheese in the cake. They should just call it cake to be honest, I would rank this location higher if there was any hint of cheese no matter the quality; american, havarti, provolone doesn't matter. As I write this review I see the half eaten slice of "cheese" cake across the room, judging me, mocking me for falling for such a juvenile ruse. If the bakery department does not step up their cheese game you can bet your bottom dollar that I'm taking my business to Fry's across the street where I know at least I won't be tricked into a sham of a dessert. read more

This store is great. It's well lit and easy to maneuver through. They have nice fish and there are lots of great organic fruit and veggie choices. The employees are helpful and the discounted meat is easy to find. I rarely have an issue here except when I forget my ID. They really are sticklers for the rules... I've had to leave many a champagne bottle at the register. Do I really look that young? Rules are rules. One fateful trip, my son was pissed off about being a toddler and an employee at the bakery came over and asked if he could give him a cookie. It was so sweet! I agreed to a small roll and my son happily chomped away the rest of my shopping trip. The deli girls are similarly sweet to my kiddo with the meat and cheese samples to accompany their big smiles. I enjoy ordering my cakes from this particular Safeway, and this past weekend was no different. I was a little worried as I was ordering a very specific birthday cake that I need on Saturday October 24, for a friends birthday party. She basically wanted a strawberry shortcake, cake (you know whipped cream frosting, fresh strawberries in the middle, strawberries and whip cream on top). When I went to Safeway on October 19 after going to 3 other locations to attempt to order this cake, Miss Frida informed me that they were currently out of strawberries and wasn't sure when they would get their shipment in. All I was thinking was its Monday and I don't need this cake to Saturday and there is a chance that Safeway wouldn't get a shipment of strawberries? But its MONDAY and I don't need it til SATURDAY is what my mind was screaming. Alas I took it all in stride as Miss Frida told me not to worry and that she would call me on Friday if for some reason they didn't get any strawberries in time and that we would work something out. So after having a mini panic attack as I had already been to 3 other places in the last 48 hours and was tired of cake shopping but I was determined to get the type of cake my friend wanted. So Friday rolls around and although I had not heard from Frida, I decided to stop in anyway to see what the progress was. She let me know that that had received a fresh shipment of strawberries on Thursday and that everything was a go. Needless to say my mind was instantly at ease. So fast forward to Saturday, I pick up the cake, which looked fabulous and headed on to the party to finish setting up and getting everything ready for all the guest. When it came time to cut, the birthday girl was beyond happy and let me tell you, that cake was OFF THE HOOK! Talk about fresh. My goodness. Everyone loved the cake and couldn't believe that it came from Safeway. The birthday girl was happy as she got exactly what she wanted and the guest loved it. So Safeway got acquired by Albertson's a few years back. In August, this store removed the Self Checkout lines. Looking at news stories and press releases, Albertson's decided to remove the Self Checkout lines from all their stores back in 2011. So from these two facts, I'm guessing the reason for the self checkout removal can be tracked back to Albertson's management. There is a reason why the Albertson's at Tatum and Greenway closed after the Safeway merger instead of the Safeway across the street. There was never anybody in it. Albertson's pretty much isn't competitive in the ultra competitive Phoenix grocery market. So after the removal of the self checkout lines, I'm now a bit annoyed at this store. I severely dislike Fry's but for items that Fry's can provide, I'm heading there. They still have self checkout lines. The new express lines are so much slower than the previous self checkout lines. After using self checkout lines at Safeway, Home Depot, Lowe's, Fry's and Bashas' over the last ten years, I've become pretty quick at using them. So Safeway/Albertson's management. Re-think your strategy and get out of your bubble. For reference, I'm one of those customers who rarely spend over $30 each shopping trip but I earn multiple gas rewards on a monthly basis. read more

I went to fill my husband's prescription on 09.04.2021. I was told prescription would be ready Tuesday and they would call. My husband is on hospice...so the hospice nurse said she would handle it. Awesome. She called Tuesday and got nothing, she transferred the Rx to another Safeway. Today, 09.11 still no call, nothing! Hospice nurse can't even get anything out of them & they haven't even filled it and we both have reached out and left messages and still nothing. Best Floral Department! I shop at this Safeway constantly and I love this store. It's well laid-out, the lighting is good and it always has what I need... but it's the floral department that is truly amazing. Kassie, the floral manager, gets the best flowers and does custom flowers as well. I've used her for baby showers and luncheons and she is AMAZING - and much cheaper than the florists around town. I bring her a picture and she re-creates anything I can throw at her. She is absolutely incredible!!! I tell everyone about Kassie because she's so good! read more

I recently moved here and this store is the most convenient for me. I have had two unpleasant experiences in the meat department. I had loved chicken livers and was appalled to find one liver was still attached to some awful looking body part . I don't think I will be able to eat chicken livers ever again. A few days ago I purchased two packages of precut stirfry chicken. Although the chicken was still within the freshness dates, they were very slimy. I advise against purchasing anything in the butcher shop. I'm afraid to try their fish. Just saying... read more
