AJ's Oasis is a dive bar in Meriden, which was on my Radar because it's in the Wing Addicts' CT Wing Trail. I was looking for a spot to get takeout wings before a noon football game, and I noticed AJ's was open at 9 AM. That's dedication. LOL. Sure enough, there were between 5 and 10 people there eating breakfast and/or getting a drink the entire time I was there from about 10:45 to 11:15. They serve breakfast all day btw. I ordered 7 wings each of the following flavors: Hot Honey Buffalo, Cajun Dry Rub, Raspberry Chili, and Peanut Butter with a side of Spicy Grape Ape. The wings weren't breaded per se, but they seemed to be a bit flour dusted, in a way that worked well. The wing's weren't especially sauced, but the the outer texture of the wings really captured the flavor of the sauces and the wings were all really tasty. The wings were meaty and had good texture. I would definitely return for wings. I also got a bowl of chili for my son. I had a bite. It was a meaty ground beef and bean style chili with maybe a medium dose of Tabasco or another similar hot sauce. They topped it with melted cheddar. It was better than I would have expected for sure. Service was friendly. They have pool and darts. I assume the vibe changes upon time of day. Stopped in last night after seeing a show at Castle Craig Players which is around the corner. Went with a large group and had a great time. The sign says something like there are no strangers here, only friends you haven't met yet. The regulars are really very friendly and inviting. We met so many people and had a great time! Do I even have to do a review for this place? Nope, but I'm going to! Atmosphere/Appearance: This is a for-sure dive bar. No bones about it and that's okay! The parking lot is basically gravel, so... just know that. Lol. Next to the building is like an abandoned warehouse with numerous windows busted out. The police station is right up the street so they're always riding around. This place feels dangerous... so that's how you know the food SLAPS. Inside is basic. There's a Keno machine in the back, a couple of pool tables, high tops and a big wrap-around bar that seats people on 3 sides. The bathrooms are tiny, but none of that matters. You're here for a good time and the food. Lol. Service: Rob and Debbie are the main ones that'll be taking care of you. They're cool, but don't expect the best service. Lol. They might smile. They may take a lil' while, but it's all about the charm of this place! Food: So I come here for one reason. The wings. AJ's Oasis Cafe offers Saturday night happy hour from 7:00pm to 10:00pm so that's when we normally pull up. I've had about 11 different flavors here and they are all AMAZING. The wings are HUGE as well. Definitely Foghorn Leghorn status wings. I usually have a prejudice against breaded wings, but these are lightly dredged so I let them pass. Lol. I love them so much and I'm overdue for a Saturday night happy hour here. Value: Wings are $0.75 a piece between 7:00pm and 10:00pm on Saturday. That's the only thing that matters. In conclusion, AJ's is a go-to place for wings for me AND my wife. She actually mentioned wanted to come here a couple of weekends ago, but we stayed in instead. This place is just an interesting experience. The prices are great, there is literally just about any kind of food you could want on the menu, service is usually pretty good, there's a pool table and TouchTunes to keep you entertained and listening to music you want to hear. The part that really blows me away, is the 7-10pm deals (think HAPPY HOUR) ON A SATURDAY!!!!!!!! Why all the capital letters you're wondering? Because it's really unheard of, especially now (post-pandemic), to get 7 GIANT wings for ONLY $4.50!!! Now, they are breaded, which I'm usually opposed to, but the flavors they offer are so good, and the wings are so big, that I don't even mind the breading much! I mean, the flavors are so good and the prices are so cheap that I want two orders of 7, but one order fills me up because the wings are just bigger than average! And, we just learned last week that breakfast is available (I think until 8:30pm) so even the vegetarian we dragged along was happy! I mean, the menu is vast so I'm sure there were not breakfast foods that are also vegetarian, but French toast and an egg and cheese breakfast sandwich is what was chosen. So, if you want a fancy atmosphere, this isn't the place. But, if you want good food for fair prices, with overall good service, check this place out! It seems like they always have their regulars there, which is another good sign! You never want to go anywhere with an empty parking lot on a Saturday night, or at least I don't! Back to my wings for a moment, I never thought I'd say this but their Peanut Butter and Jelly wings are one of my favorites, and another is the Buffalo Honey Hot!!! We came upon this place on a wet and snowy night and were surprised by the number of cars in the parking lot. Once inside it felt like a real hometown kind of place. We got a chance to meet the owners who were wonderful. The staff was also amazing and we ordered up some wings. Convenient eatery, but is it good? Hmmmm I feel like they were a little better then okay a few years ago. I ate here a few months ago because they were the only ones open. An I feel like I was better off going to the grocery store an visiting the frozen food section, opposed to paying more for it here. They are the only place that stays open passed 8-10pm in Meriden. The bar where you can walk inside and everyone knows your name (if your a regular) and noone judges you if your doing that for the first time . Laid back and chill spot to play pool, darts,watch the game on TV or just play the old arcade game like I do all night long. The kitchen is open late and the cook of fabulous. I've had some great meals here especially a nice late night steak and potato. The wings are nice and big with honey BBQ being my ultimate favorite. The menu is pretty big so take your time ,but I recommend getting a few appetizers because you can't pick just one ,lol. The potato skins are very good . Pretty cool atmosphere I like to dance so I go down there and I'm in my own world. I've only been down there once in 20 years, but I had fun danced, drank some water and I was look like I had five heads, but I don't care on me and I'm not changing I highly recommend this place for their wings so to me it's 10 out of 10 stars so suck it up buttercup and take that tequila. SO, I was looking for a new place to do some Karaoke. This place was suggested by another KJ so we thought we'd check it out. It's a tiny hole in the wall place. Pretty smallish. BUT, we had a great time. The people were friendly. The karaoke jockey was super nice and the bartender took care of us pretty quickly. We not only ordered drinks but got some food too. My fiance got a fish sandwich with fries with a side of clam chowder. The fries were crispy and great! I ate the chowder and actually liked it quite a bit. The prices were reasonable too. ordered doordash not that long ago from here and not only was the food cold, but there was a hair in it. My dasher was also waiting at the restaurant for a good 20-30 minutes. I get I only live like 10 minutes up the road so the wait is understandable for the fresh food, but if it was made fresh it shouldn't of gotten cold in a container after 10 minutes!
