Ok while our server was rude disrespectful and un engaging the hostess made up for it beyond measure. My fries were room temp and upon sending them back cook threw them back in the Fryer and sent me an oily bowl of potatoes. My grill cheese blt had a single slice of bacon on each half but was over all flavorful and good. The wings were basic nothing to make us run back for more but eatable.. sweet potatoes fries were cooked just right and came out hot and ready to eat. Back to our server... after telling her the problem she literally shrugged her shoulders and said oh well and walked away .She never offered refill or asked if we wanted dessert or anything else . CJ Sparrow Pub & Eatery is your typical neighborhood pub serving up delicious food. Since it's more of a bar, it can be a bit noisy, and it's dimly lit, but it wasn't an issue. The menu had plenty of great options the chose from. I was in the mood for some good fish and chips, and I was not disappointed. The fried haddock was fresh,the batter was crispy, and came with a large portion of delicious fries. Food came out piping hot, and the service was fast, attentive, and friendly. We really like this bar. The food is really good and services is great. Staff is very friendly. On our second trip here, I had the Steakhouse Burger. I ordered it medium rare but it came out rather well done, not pink at all. This seems to happen almost everywhere and the reason I usually don't get burgers out anymore. However, the burger was hand pressed and full of flavor. Good, but not great. Their sweet potato fries are really good though. My husband had "It's a Wrap" and is still talking in about it the next day. He wasn't sure what exactly made it so great, but he did really enjoy it. My daughter had the turkey panini and really liked it. My husband and I each had 2 drinks and for 4 meals, it was $125 plus the tip. Seemed mid-range. The atmosphere is your typical corner bar. It is a little tight. My daughter kept getting bumped into by some drunk guy but we were able to move the table. We like places like this, unpretentious with good food and good drinks. C.J. Sparrow (CJS) in Cheshire is known as a Top Tier CT wing place. I've been visiting a lot of those top tier spots in the last year. Although I thought CJS was a cool place, service was friendly and accommodating, and I liked aspects of the two wing types I tried, I didn't connect with the CJS wings in the way that I connect with the wings at other CT Top Tier wings spots CJS is a bar/restaurant with inside and outside seating. Although they have some cool local sports decor, the physical part of the atmosphere isn't really a selling point. The small outside area is cool. CJS is known in wing circles, but they have a robust menu that would satisfy the tastes of most people. I arrived slightly before they opened at 11:30, and one of the bartender/servers was nice enough to seat me. She was friendly and efficient. The beer selection was at best average for a place known for having great wings. Usually there's a number of cool CT and national craft selections at places. I ordered a Bad Sons DIPA since I was looking for something new, but the bartender realized the keg had tapped after I ordered. I went with a Counterwieght Headway, which I like, but I've had many times. None of the other choices were a big draw for me. Since I was early in the day, it's possible that CJS didn't quite have the oil temperature on cruise yet. The wings were more lightly colored than I'm used to from great spots. Also, some of the wings were a bit rough looking. There were at least a couple of wings with bald bones where you would expect meat. The chicken meat tasted good though. For Top Tier Wing places, CJS has fewer flavors than some of the greats. I didn't count, but I bet they have a bit fewer than 20 sauces and rubs. One of the reasons I visited CJS is that somebody had brought the Thai Peanut wings to an event and I loved them. I loved the sauce again in this visit. It's more of a wet peanut flavored sauce with some chopped peanuts, than the thicker peanut butter sauce you get in a lot of places. Good peanut flavor. Mild Thai Spice. I've heard people praise the CJS wet Jerk sauce. It was pretty good, but I wouldn't order it order again. The wet in this case was very liquidy. In addition, neither the liquid nor the seasoning on the wing was strong enough to evoke any sort of Jerk Flavors. The wings just tasted vaguely Caribbean. I'm sure I'll head back to CJS to see if this was a bit of an off day. And don't get me wrong, this was an above average wing experience. But from this visit, I couldn't put C.J. Sparrow in the Top Tier of CT wings spots. read more

BIG BUT...this place is a like a circus you never know for sure what you will get with exception of a bearded lady of course. THEY DONT HAVE HOURS, THEY HAVE A SIGN. Wow, you would think the food was just "okay" for a pub, but it was more than okay, this place was BOMB! My coworker and I checked this place out for lunch while we were in CT for work and we were so glad we did! The bartender was so nice and helpful. Wait staff was fantastic. Warm pretzels were a hit. Will not be going back or recommending to friends. We went for our first trivia night which was based on the "honor system." I spoke to the 3 women at the bar when I saw one using Google to cheat for her team. I also said something to the moderator who was very cozy with them. I was dismissed, told that it wasn't about the money, and our table was not given back our money as requested. The cheaters won all the prize money. This was a cool dive bar type place. It certainly looks like a place where locals hang out and I can see why! The staff was very attentive, fast, and pleasant. The food was really great too. We got the Fried Calamari del Fuego as an appetizer which was tasty, could have been a little crispier but that's just me being picky. We also got the Steakhouse Burger which was great and the fried onions on top were very crispy. And the Chummy's Heart Attack Burger was amazing, very powerful gorgonzola flavor so beware if you're not a huge fan of it, and I loved that the patty was crusted with peppercorns. I do wish the burgers had a bit more veggies on them but next time I'll just ask for more and the fries were a bit floppy but well seasoned. I got a side of ranch for my fries which was really delicious, I'm not sure if it was made in house but it tasted like it was. All in all, I would definitely go back here. read more

We ate here for the first time early on a Saturday afternoon. It's a nice neighborhood place with wood tables and booths. It can be kind of noisy as it's not huge and the bar is close the tables. I did like there was no music so I didn't have to yell to be heard. The waitress was prompt and brought us drinks which were strong. There's a nice variety to choose from, including a whole bunch of craft fears printed on a blackboard on the wall. I had chicken Parmesan over penne pasta. There were two cutlets and the meal was very filling. The food was decent quality, and the price is good. My other guest had fish and chips, and once again, the platter was large and served with french fries; it was impossible for either one of us to finish our entire meal. I had heard of this restaurant as a takeout place and wanted to try it. It's a nice neighborhood hang out, and I would recommend stopping here if you get the chance. When I first walked in, it smelled like cigarettes to me. My eyes started burning a little later, so something was up somewhere -- but I saw nobody smoking. Maybe I was near a vent or something. In any case, this place has fabulous craft beers on tap. After that, I don't have very many positives. It's a run down dive bar, but I'm sure the locals love it. The place was pretty packed for a Monday night. The food left much to be desired in my world. My fries were cold as cold could be, but the Turkey panini was pretty tasty. Menu said it came with cole slaw, but it did not. My friend's burger was cooked super well, and was pretty dry (judging by the amount of ketchup used). We won't be back, but don't let that stop you if you're into craft beer and tasty sandwiches. read more

This place doesn't look like much from the outside, but the food is excellent. I had the most delicious veggie burger. It is made by the chef and has black beans and mushrooms. I don't know what else she uses, but it didn't fall apart like most veggie burgers. The french fries were also extra delicious. My friend eats gluten-free, and they offer gluten-free hamburger buns. We want to support local businesses during this time and we've selected one a week. Unfortunately, our first order from C.J. Sparrow will be our last. We ordered two burgers well done. The outsides of the burger were burnt like charcoal and the inside was pink. It was so bad my wife couldn't eat hers. Our son managed to eat his by dipping it in ranch dressing. Had he told me his was the same we would have complained about that too. I called the restaurant but they were busy and the owner (I guess) asked to call me back. He did call me back and rudely offered to reimburse me for the poor meal. It's now been over a week and so reimbursement. So now I'm leaving a review. I won't eat here again, nor will I recommend it either. UPDATE: We did end up receiving a refund check, but alas, they put the wrong name on it. So it's worthless to me. This place should be on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives...it fits perfectly. It's located in a small plaza just off Route 10 in Cheshire. Nothing fancy inside; a bar, some booths, tables and an outside seating area. The food here is excellent. I've eaten a lot off the menu and everything is fresh and homemade. Last time we were here, we had chips and salsa. They made the salsa themselves; no jar stuff. Same goes for a lot of sauces; try something with the maple chipotle if you can. The specials are really good. The slider trio is a great way to try a three of their burger/sandwiches on a smaller scale. The salads are enormous. They come in a serving bowl. Service here is consistent. I've found the servers to be attentive and friendly. It can be a little slow if it's busy, like on a night they have trivia. This place is worth trying! Our loss, this friendly place makes a great burger and every other menu item we've tried since was tasty. Nice portion size and a variety of beers on tap. Tuesday night trivia is fun and PACKED, but the quality of food remains high which is impressive.
