This bar can get pretty packed , and generally has some good deals for food and drinks but when we went for our kickball/wiffleball league it was absolute chaos. Parking fills up on popular nights. They seemed very understaffed, with only 1-2 bartenders for a packed outdoor area. The kitchen did not seem to be able to keep up with the demand, though I do feel like we should've been warned that food would take an hour when ordering if it were that backed up. I went back to check on my food twice , the second time being at an hour and 15 minutes since I placed the order , with people who ordered after both getting their food first and finishing before I received mine at all. After I finally got my food I had to wait additionally to ask for condiments and waited 10 minutes after asking the bartender if I could close my card while others who came after me both ordered more drinks and paid first. The bartenders did offer us a drink on the house to try to help, though when I finally got my food it was 10pm. I probably would not order food again. They were also out of all ciders . This bar can be fun for its outside games but i would pickup food elsewhere first . read more

The food here is genuinely great and the cook is always fantastic, that part has never changed. This used to be my favorite bar, and we've recommended it to so many friends over the years. Unfortunately, the overall experience has gone downhill. During our most recent visit, the bartender called me names, and the owner's son -- who was clearly intoxicated -- was extremely rude. Mind you, we are very generous tippers and have been coming here for over 10 years. When we were cashing out we heard the bartender say "I'm going to charge her card for a 20% tip" It was disappointing and uncomfortable to say the least. It's also very concerning how often visibly intoxicated customers are overserved and then allowed to drive away. It doesn't feel safe or responsible. Typical sports bar. Drinks were good waitress was attentive. Card night was fun. I would come back everyone was very pleasant. Great atmosphere. I had a couple drinks they were great. My fries were cold and I couldn't eat them anyways as they are covered in black pepper. My turkey burger was ok but over cooked and disappointingly dry even with ranch dressing. The Bar and Grill is a great spot to hang out with friends, family and eat wings. The inside has games that you can play for entertainment and they also have an outdoor patio. The backdoor patio has a volleyball court and another outside bar. So let's get to the wings. The wings were very delicious. I ordered the Sweet Heat Wings. I've driven past this place so many times and it just doesn't draw you in due to its lackluster sign out front and super simple name, but a friend of ours said the wings here were fabulous. So, we had to try it. We've then made 4 return visits. Lol. Here's why. Atmosphere/Appearance: This place is a dive, but there's nothing wrong with that at all. During our visits only outdoor dining was allowed and luckily, this place has a nice sized patio AND A full sand volleyball court which was turned into an area for outdoor dining! That's good thinking. It's a bar and grill so people do gather to watch sporting events thus making a whole lot of noise. With it being outside, it wasn't as loud. The inside is what you expect, decorated with lots of sports memorabilia. Pretty straightforward. Service: The ladies that took care of us over the course of our 5 visits were mostly awesome. I can't remember having any real issues aside from the size of the cups our drinks came in varied from server to server. So for example, you'd pay the same price for a drink on different days, but the cup size would change. I mean, for as cheap as the drinks are, I didn't want to complain too much. Food: I'M HERE FOR THE WINGS! So, in late April of 2020 we wanted to support local business and got some takeout from this place and that's when I became hooked! I've never actually had anything other than wings from here and I'm totally okay with that! I've managed to try their Buffalo, garlic parmesan, cajun dry rub, hot + sweet and BBQ throughout my 5 visits. The buffalo and hot + sweet are my favorites. Value: It's a bar and grill so the prices are solid. I can't remember an exact pricing for the wings, but I know they weren't too bad if we kept on coming back for more. The drinks of course were super cheap as well. In conclusion, if you're not big on décor, don't need all of the fixings and just want to get together at an old fashioned Bar & Grill with a few of your friends, this is definitely a good place to do it. I've been to The Bar many, many times. Its kind of a tradition at this point. For about as far back as I can think, this was always the place we came after playing Ultimate Frisbee. It's a sports bar- lots of tv's, cheap drinks and a friendly atmosphere. Bartenders are friendly as is the owner. In the summertime, they open the back patio up and it almost has this not-quite-tiki bar thing going on. The food is typical bar food, but its well above average and will probably surprise you with how good it actually is. I've had most of the menu and recommend the wings, maui wrap, Wisconsin Burger, and caprese salad w/ steak. If I could suggest improvements, it would be to have more craft/ local beers available and some more rotating food specials. Other than that, I think The Bar is a pretty good place. read more

Large bar inside, large bar outside for warm weather fun *Obviously only open Seasonally. Volleyball, ping-pong table, bags (cornhole), fire-pit with firewood, pool tables. What a cozy little sports bar! They almost always have a nice array of games on tv as well as a nice little crowd of people. The parking can be tight out front, but there is plenty of parking in the back. The bar is pretty big and has enough space for a bunch of people. There are tables near the two pool tables and tables on the other side of the bar so never hard to find a seat! Besides the pool tables there is air hockey in the back. Also there is a patio out back but I didn't go out there bc it was too cold! They have a nice array of beer and liquor. I sampled a few items off of the menu, and was very happy with my chili cheese fries as well as their new wings! On NFL Sunday there are football specials and they have a really nice menu all the time. The nachos are yummy and so are the crispy ribs. They have salads, sandwiches, burgers, and entrees as well. And the prices are reasonable. And yes, the bathroom is clean :) A definite come back often! Come for the food, stay for the fun! read more

I have been going here on and off since my years at CCSU. Moved away and recently returned to meet some friends. I would have to say the food has much improved. We ate one items after the next wings, ribs, skewers, pizza... All of great. The owner came by greater us to make sure we were enjoying ourself. The loud base music from The Bar is a disgrace to the nearby residential area. Newington has a noise ordinance as of 10:00 pm but the booming base often lasts to 2:00 am or later. We like to patronize local businesses but with their disregard for their neighbors, that won't happen. read more

So here's the deal with this place: 100% recommend! From the road its nothing to look at and if I was hungry it would not catch my eye as a place for good food.....but You would be totally wrong!!!! The food here is AMAZING!!! I will agree the layout is very sports bar like with some booths, but mostly high top tables, pool tables and games. the back has an outside patio that once the weather breaks looks like a good time with tvs and an outside bar. When we came in, we were immediately welcomed by the bartender and owner. Very nice. Service was great, good local brews on tap. We ended up having the steak and cheese egg rolls, which by the way, all the food is made for scratch! My only comment on those would be to add a little more cheese to eliminate any possible dryness from the steak. Over all though they are a 4 star. What brought us there was the "crispy ribs" I saw on the yelp page. These were awesome! Crunchy ribs that fall off the bone glazed with a sort of Asian General Tao sauce. Soooo good. Very large portion as well. I ordered the special buffalo chicken sandwich. Just to give you the idea,look at the photo ! Huge portion, with lettuce tomato, cherry peppers and potato roll... This chef knows what he is doing! The bun can make or break a sandwich, and this made it! Awesome!!! Lauren had the marinated steak tip salad and was very happy. I love love love The Bar and Grill. It is a great sports bar with awesome food, great drink prices, and a very affable wait staff. They even have a huge out door patio with a couple of TV's as well. Food: Unpretentious, delicious and very creative. They make these philly cheese steak egg rolls that are so good. Wings are very meaty, they fry them and grill them as well to get a nice char flavor Drinks: No where else in CT will you find a delicious craft double IPA in a pint for $3.75. Crazy!!! Most places would charge $6.50 and put it in a 12 oz glass Waitstaff: very friendly, a lot of pretty women behind the bar as well who hustle hard, they are not their strictly their for eye candy This is a great place to watch a game or just hang out, its close to Hartford and has plenty of parking as well and that in itself is refreshing, most other bars around unless they are in a strip mall parking is nightmare. I know, another 4 star review for Kara. Seriously, when you click 4 stars, Yelp says that I'm saying "Yay! I'm a fan." Well I am a fan of The Bar & Grill in Newington. It kept popping up in my Yelp feed and I had to try it. My wife and I LOVED it. We walked in on a Saturday around 1pm and it was fairly empty. The bartender/waitress was super friendly and OK-ed us to sit out on the back patio. I'm not taking off any points for the back patio. It's not pretty for dining but it looks AWESOME for fun. It's covered, has a bar with a couple of taps, TVs, heaters,....heck there's a volleyball net, pool table and cornhole to play. Very cool. Ok, so we ordered some beers on tap and as I said the waitress was fantastic. She definitely wanted to give us suggestions on what beers we'd (potentially) like. I told her that my wife doesn't know her beer but she likes stuff like Stella. She ended up with a Blue Moon (perfect). I ordered the double IPA and she insisted on giving me a sample of that an another IPA (I liked both but went with the double). She was super sweet about all of that. We ordered 3 appetizers, all of which were really tasty. My favorite had to be the beef tenderloin skewer served with slices of tomato and fresh mozzarella with pesto. The meat was delicious with it's balsamic glaze. This could easily be a meaty/salady meal. We also had the philly cheesesteak egg rolls. Yeah. Let that sink in cause it was full on goodness. And.....to round out the healthy meal, potato skins. Everything was super tasty, large portions (we took most of the skins and egg rolls home). We will DEFINITELY be back. Food: Really good -- way above what you would expect out of a sports bar. I recommend just about everything, but the burgers are excellent. Comes out pretty quickly. Drinks: The beer selection is limited but they usually have one "rare" beer on tap. There are mixed drinks too, obviously, and the bartenders seem very accommodating. Staff: Very friendly and attentive. TV: They have about 8 TV's behind the bar and several others scattered around. Most have a pretty good picture quality, but some are a little old. Crowd: There is a very heavy locals presence in this place and you will be noticed if you're not a regular. You can expect to go in on any night and expect to see some regulars there. Seriously the best last minute find!! Came up for my bf's son's hockey game and passed it on the way. So we chose to go there prior to the game, after dropping the child off to prepare. Not only was the staff so awesome and friendly, as well as quick, the food came out in like 15 minutes. Omg, when I say phenomenal ribs, it's an understatement! This is place is a conundrum. . Sort of a sports bar... college bar, dive highway truck stop (shares a pad with gas station. ) but the food is legit. Apparently the bar is separated from the kitchen and everything is make from scratch. I had the chicken parm not what you would order at a bar but it was delicious.
