What a bizarre experience. I dropped off a dress shirt on Wednesday and told her I was going out of town for a business trip on Saturday so I needed it by Friday. She told me it was not possible but quickly changed her mind and said I would need to come by after closing time on Friday to pick it up. I said that was fine, and she took down my phone # and said she would call me. Before leaving she changed her mind again and said to come at 5:30pm to get it. Fine. Friday rolls around, I'm running late, I haven't heard from her, so I give her a call at 5:30pm to make sure the shirt is ready and tell her I'm heading over. No answer. I drive over and get there around 6:05pm (they close at 6pm). The door is locked but the lights are on. I knock. No answer. I can see her in the back so I figure she must not be able to hear me. I knock more. I call. I can hear the phone ringing. She keeps working in the back. I think to myself "maybe she forgot I was coming today." I keep knocking and calling. Eventually I find a window that is slightly ajar and I call out to her through it. She finally comes over and starts yelling at me "WE'RE CLOSED!! WE'RE CLOSED!! COME BACK TOMORROW!" I respond "I was supposed to come to pick up my shirt remember?" She yells back "YOU WEREN'T HERE AT 5:30!! I TOLD YOU 5:30!!!! COME BACK TOMORROW!!!" I said "Sorry about that but I'm here now, can I just get my shirt?" We go back and forth with her yelling at me for being late, and refusing to open the door, calling me rude and crazy for knocking on her door, saying she yelled at her customers earlier because I was late, and just shouting at me through the window. She then walked back to the back room. I was appalled that she was holding my shirt ransom, holding a grudge just because I was late. I left, ate dinner, and about 1.5 hrs later, she calls me. She apologized and said she wanted to honor her promise and that I could go get the shirt. I went back and she was with another customer!!!! Why wouldn't she open the door for me??? I was so confused but just wanted my shirt, so I picked it up and left. This woman is unstable and I will not be coming back here ever again. The only reason she gets 3 stars is because when I went back she apologized (only after once again reprimanding me for being late and calling me rude and crazy for "banging on her door"). read more

I went in and she didn't say hi just asked why I was there. Took another customer while I was there, super nice to her, super rude to us. Because her customer was a regular. It's like she didn't even want to help me. We asked her opinion on shortening the dress it's like she didn't care, she wanted to rush me. I don't understand the good reviews. Another guy came in while I was about to leave and he asks for his pants she fixed and she couldn't even find it and she said come back I'll find it later. She just seems very unorganized. read more

Mahla is wonderful! Early in 2017 I bought a lovely suit jacket and trousers on super sale, but they were a little bit bigger than my usual size, so I knew some editing would need to happen. I decided to visit AK Tailors because of the great yelp reviews, and I was NOT disappointed. When I tried the items on for Mahla, she immediately assessed the issues with the trousers, but I was really surprised when she told me she wasn't going to make any changes to the jacket. She told me once the trousers were taken in, I'd like the fit of the jacket better. That really impressed me-- she offers an honest, professional opinion on everything you bring her, and if she doesn't think the tailoring you have in mind is necessary/worthwhile, she won't do it just to charge you more. I found myself facing another amazing suit super-sale (a totally gorgeous cranberry red three piece!!!!), but yet again, all the pieces in my usual size were sold out. It's SO impressive how Mahla was able to make such significant changes in the garment fit/size without changing the "structural integrity" of all the pieces themselves. Also, I don't think it's the easiest thing to do suit tailor for women's bodies, but both times the fit has been really stupendous. Most importantly, she's extremely sweet and friendly, so visiting her is always a treat :) Overall, her work has been fast, precise, and fairly priced, so I plan to keep going back to her as long as I'm in Tucson. read more

I highly recommend AKTailor and Alterations for anyone needing any type of tailoring. I had a Mother of the Groom dress that needed to be hemmed. It was a difficult job due to the type of material and the fact that it was a layered skirt. Mahla did a superb job. In addition to the alteration work, she advised me at my request as to what length the skirt should be, and what color would be best for the accessories. I appreciated her advice very much. Also, I came back 8 months after my wedding in a last minute crisis-- I'm now in a friend's wedding but I got pregnant and my bridesmaid dress no longer fit. I had to rush order a new dress which came just two weeks before the wedding. I called her in a panic- her answer? "You were my bride, come in any time. Even if it was 24 hours, I'll make it okay." Mahla, the Persian seamstress (trained as a lawyer overseas) does good work and can be skittish about its delivery (-one star). Prices are unposted and can fluctuate (-one star). Mahla can blow hot and cold. Very good with the impromptu situation. Mahala's a totally stressed gamer running a one-man shop. She's certainly one of the best tailors in Tucson. That said, bring your patience. read more

It's a one-woman show, but she does a great job. Mahala is clearly an expert at what she does and she puts her heart into it. Of course, being such a small shop, you have to be a little patient when you get there (she may be working with a bride-zilla), and if you need something by a certain deadline, be sure to call a day before and make sure it's still on-track. I dropped some pants for relatively simple mending and they were supposed to be ready in 8 days. They were not ready in 13 days. I gave her at least another week, and then they were ready. I think she did a good job, but it is inconvenient to make an extra trip and expect your clothes to be ready. Apparently, I'm not the only one. Be sure that you call first to verify that your clothes are actually ready. I'll try another tailor next time. read more

Mahla did an absolutely excellent job altering my wedding dress. I had some time constraints, since I do not live in Tucson and would only be in town the week of my wedding. Mahla was able to schedule two different fittings with me that week (one that was originally unplanned, after we realized the dress needed a little more work). She was responsive to my concerns about fit while also being up-front about what she could and could not reasonably do with the structure of the dress. It was a rather difficult alternation and Mahla made it look flawless. She is also the sweetest, and made my week much less stressful than it could have been with so many last-minute alterations :) I would most definitely recommend her to anyone getting a wedding gown altered. read more

I took five pairs of pants here on a Friday and asked to have them back on Tuesday. The lady there said she didn't normally do alterations that fast, but that she would get them done by Tuesday afternoon for me. I've had mixed results here. The first time we went in, it was absolutely great! The service was wonderful and the tailor was polite and helpful. The finished product was really well done and all of it was for a great price. Absolutely wonderful! I was so impressed. The second time I went in, she was really busy with other peoples' items and would not take on what I went in for. Basically she said she was too busy to take on more work and for me to come back at a later time. I appreciate her honesty and I'm happy for her that she was so busy, but it was really disappointing that she just flat out refused. I needed my suit tailored fast for a school interview. Mahla got that done. She also helped explain how a suit is suppose to fit (which I had no clue). She was fast and is super busy, but it is expensive (35 to hemm the sleeves), but worth it to know I got it done in time. read more

The owner is so nice and friendly! I went in thinking that I needed to get my bridesmaid dress loosened or have a corset put on it because it was too tight, and I couldn't zip it, even with the help of several friends. After being in AK Tailors for only 10 minutes, I was able to leave because she had zipped it for me, telling me I don't need anything done to the dress and that it's perfect! She just knew the right way to gather the material and pull in the right direction so that it zipped. I gave her a hug as I left, and she told me to enjoy the wedding in my perfect-fitting dress! She could have convinced me that I should get it altered, but she was such an honest woman. I am definitely going back to her for more alterations in the future.
