This shop provided me with an excellent bridal dress shopping experience. Janelle messaged me ahead of time and asked me for the type of dresses I was looking for. She picked out a few dresses with styles she thought I might like, she also let me walk around and pick out what I liked. After trying on my picks and her picks, she was able to get a feel for what I liked and brought out amazing selections in my price range. She didn't not show me anything outside of my price range. She took the time to help me try on dresses and made sure I felt good in each dress. She made suggestions as to how to make the dress to my liking with alterations. I absolutely loved my experience looking for a bridesmaid's dress at Hem and Her with the owner Joyce who did her best to making the bride feel less overwhelmed by asking the right questions and providing just the right amount of choices. She was also very patient and calm while the bridesmaids took over the entire backroom. The place is definitely disruptive, there's a big dirt lot of free parking, a boho-esque (yes, I made up a word) front yard, and what appears to be just a storefront; however, when you walk in there's a room to your right filled with tuxedos of your choice, the main area with costume jewelry and other fancy stuff, a wall full of wedding dresses and then to the left another room filled with other dresses for prom, evening wear, and other special occasions. Joyous and her husband, I assume, were amazing and keeping a room full of ladies pretty tamed, focused and helped us make decisions. They even treated us to a shot of tequila or scotch in crystal shot glasses of course to take that edge off. Joyce is different in that she takes her time to assess each of our body types without us even realizing it, then she brings out a myriad of dresses and hands them out to each of us, based on whatever you want and she feels would fit the most appropriately. This provides an opportunity for the bride or whoever's there observing to have real life dolls to choose from LOL. She is definitely quite knowledgeable of what needs to be done to make a dress fit just perfectly. I can't speak more highly of Joyce and Marv! Took my son to get his suit fitted as he had lost a bit of weight since last year. They were so busy what with proms all over town this week. But they both made my son Feel special and gave us a great deal on a suit that fit my son way better then they could have fitted him into his old one. This is definitely a family owned and run. They thanked each customer that came in for supporting them and shopping local. I told Joyce I would love to have an ounce of her energy as she bopped from one fitting to doing alterations on existing orders to making my son feel special. Marv cracked jokes and educated my son on tying a tie, on history of pocket squares, to personally removing the tacks on the suit. Even though I know how busy they were, they accommodated us walking in to their shop without an appointment and made my son feel special and made him look so handsome! We walked in at 2:30 and came out an hour later with a new suit that Joyce personally hemmed in minutes. I saw reviews about their prices... I don't know what they are taking about! We had a new suit, fitted, a new shirt, tie and pocket square for $275! Amazing! Thank you Joyce and Marv!! Where do I begin. My wedding is 2 weeks away and our groomsmen have all had an issue with their suits, sizes were either too small or too large. Dealing with the owners husband Marv has been a NIGHTMARE! We originally opted to use this business due to the pricing of the suit and actually owning it, had we known the headaches that would come with it we have have and should have went elsewhere. 1) My fiancés best man (lives in CA) flew in to get fitted, then called after returning home to request a larger size, when he received his suit it was still too small. Marv refused to exchange or refund his money saying it was not his fault the suit did not fit and blamed him from gaining weight, which he had not. Rude and unprofessional. 2) I took my 11year old son to be fitted and was told kids suits were cheaper, when I took him to try on the suit it also did not fit, Marv gestured to my sons mid-section area and said " we still have to deal with this", insinuating he was over weight because the jacket did not close. I was livid, it was beyond offensive he is an 11 year old who already has body imagine issues. (if it wasn't for my son I would have caused a scene) Not only is he rude and unprofessional he is also very very condescending and inconsiderate. He then tried to charge me $325 for a "kids" suit and then later stated he had to order a men's suit for him, I refused to pay and ordered one way more affordable off of AMAZON, better quality too if i might add. 3) my father in law went to pick up his suit which was very wrinkled and told Marv it had looked worn, Marv said my FIL complained and Marv felt "abused" and then said he did not want him back at his shop again. I called to voice my concerns on behalf of our groomsmen and received a less than accommodating unpleasant tone from Marv, who kept insisting the suits not being the right size was not his fault, he never apologized for the huge inconvenience this has caused with the date 2 weeks away. Please people read the reviews, save your money and take your business elsewhere. This place is not worth the hassle, your money is better spent on a business more deserving. read more

This is my second time going to Hem & Her because they did such a phenomenal job on my MOH dress for my best friend's wedding. My own wedding was on 8/10/17 and I went to Joyce to work on my dress that I bought off the rack that was about 4 sizes too big and very long. On top of that it was a very delicate chantilly lace dress so I didn't want to take it to just anyone. She went above and beyond in altering my dress! Hem and Her is truly a diamond in the rough. I bought my wedding dress there and had alterations done. First off, my wedding dress was far more beautiful and far less expensive than many places I tried in town (including Maya Palace, Alfred Angelo, and several other small boutiques). I was trying on dresses almost double in price and no where near as gorgeous. Also, Joyce did my alterations. I was nervous about who to have do it considering all the bead work my dress had, however Joyce did a tremedous job. I had 4 fittings to get it perfect, but it fit like a glove and the cost of the alterations were very inexpensive. Especially considering the work she did. Joyce greets you with a hug and makes you feel extremely important. Also, she gets it done within the time constraints given. I highly recommend this place. It's definitely different than a regular store front bridal boutique but they have the biggest selection of the most gorgeous dresses for great prices. read more

It was my lucky day indeed when I discovered Hem & Her! Just prior to traveling from my home in Flagstaff to Tucson for a multi day conference, my mother-in-law shared that she had arranged for a post elopement photo shoot for my husband and I the following weekend in Phoenix (surprise!). With a very tight travel schedule, an ill fitting wedding dress, and no previous exposure to the world of Tucson clothing alterations, I turned to Yelp! for business information and customer reviews in hope of finding, well, a miracle. Enter Hem & Her... Not only was I able to speak with the owner himself (a pleasant and accommodating man) on a Sunday, but he also took into consideration my plight and booked a fitting with his wife Joyce for the very next day. I found this to be extremely helpful given my circumstances as similar businesses in town are closed on Monday and the aforementioned ill fitting wedding dress would need to be returned to me by Thursday at the latest. My fitting with Joyce on Monday was quick and easy (20 minutes in and out) and, considering the delicate lace work on the bodice that would require a great deal of care and attention, I felt very confident leaving my dress in her capable hands. Tuesday afternoon I received a call from Joyce herself letting me know that my dress was ready and would be available for pick up the following day (that was fast!). My second fitting was just as quick as the first and the dress is ill fitting no more, in fact, it's perfect! In my time of alteration need, I was so very fortunate to discover Hem & Her. I loved working with Hem & Her! I'm so sad there aren't a million good reviews on Yelp about the quality of work they do. I bought my wedding dress at a boutique in Seattle, but needed a few alterations done here in Tucson. A friend recommended Hem & Her, so I thought I would give it a chance. The moment I walked in the door the owners were really friendly and ready to look at my dress even though I hadn't made an appointment. My dress had applique lace all over, needed to be taken in quite a bit, and needed fitting in the bust, so I knew the alterations would be a bit pricey and time consuming. Joyce- the owner and seamstress knew almost immediately how much it would be to alter the dress ($400), she fitted me with ease and speed, and told me it would be done in 6-7 weeks. I was surprised at her price (I had been quoted $600 in Seattle), and told her it was no problem if she needed to charge more, but she was positive it would only be $400! I paid right away, though I did have the option to pay half up front and the rest later. About 6 weeks later I went in to try on my dress, and Joyce had done an amazing job! She was able to lay the lace evenly and match up the areas she had to take out. She also added extra padding in the bust that fit me like a glove, I didn't have to worry about popping out of the dress the entire night of the wedding, and it didn't make me look like I had a push up bra on! I was so happy my friend told me to try Hem & Her, I never would have found it on my own. Do not be put off by the appearance of the business, the quality of work cannot be matched! I was also surprised to see such a large selection of wedding and prom dresses. Had I known about Hem & Her before I bought my dress in WA I would have checked here first! I would never take my wedding dress to this seamstress. She is wacky and you will not feel confident in her skills. Her husband is very creepy and walks around making you feel very uncomfortable. If I could give zero stars, I would. This place is absolutely terrible and run by terrible people. This place looks and feels like a front for something completely different. My matron of honor and I went here to get my wedding dress and her bridesmaid dress altered. They started with my dress being $375 for everything - PERFECT! I was expecting to spend this amount of money. They took us back to get everything pinned up and everything went terribly after this. The women began saying how much my dress needed and that it would be $600+. We were taken aback but kept listening. She then said she had to put 15 bustles on my dress!!! She started pinning my straps and.... she pricked herself and got BLOOD on my WHITE wedding dress on the lace. She didn't care to tell either of us until I looked down (she had gone to get a paper towel) and I freaked out. She didn't say sorry, nothing. She was also smoking a JUUL right in front of us and blowing it in our faces. She told me my wedding dress was an internet dress and it was better if I just bought one of their dresses! I bought this dress from a boutique in Phoenix (Strut bridal). She basically made me feel like complete shit. Then after giving me the $600 quote, she let us know "well, who knows if I can even get you in". I cannot believe this company is up and running and has so many good reviews. I went to a little old lady who is a family friend, she charged me $80 (I gave her $200 because she was amazing) for simple strapwork and hemming. I did not need everything they tried to sell me on. Oh, and get this the 15 bustles Hem and Her wanted to put in my dress? I HAD A BUILT-IN BUSTLE. After seeing all of the great reviews, I was shocked to have such a terrible experience. My wedding is in 2 months, and my wedding dress just came in. We had to move the date up 6 months due to military orders. All of the local the seamstresses were booked solid up to a month in advance, but Hem and Her were able to fit me in. From the moment my mom and I arrived, we felt uneasy. They had just sat down to eat, even though I arrived at my appointment time. When my appointment did start, my uneasiness worsened. I had ordered a custom length skirt, because of the detailing. The boutique warned me that the seamstress shouldn't need to move any of the appliqués, and if they said they did, they were trying to overcharge me. The first thing she wanted to do was to move the appliqués. Then she started on the bustle, manically pinning and unpinning it without allowing me to see it. Her husband kept coming in to awkwardly stand behind me, without saying a word, and she would complain extensively to him about how difficult it was. Then she stuck me. Hard. Not like a little prick. The needle went into me. She apologized profusely, and offered to waive the consultation fee. Then I STEPPED ON A PIN. I had to pull it out of my foot. Upon later inspection, the floor was littered with rogue pins. She blamed her husband, but I had had enough. When we left, she kept saying "I'm such a bad person, I'm so sorry" in this weird baby voice. She actually pouted! We could not get out of there fast enough. I don't care if she has 37 years of experience. If this is the level of professionalism that is to be expected, I will take my business elsewhere. read more

I cannot say enough great things about Hem and Her!! Joyce is an absolute angel!! I found the dress of my dreams but it needed so much work, I didn't think it could be done. Joyce completely reconstructed my dress to ABSOLUTE PERFECTION!! It turned out better than I could have imagined and it was EXACTLY what I wanted.
