I was shocked when I took a dress to my long-time alterations place and found it is closed and for sale. They did such great work and were so reasonably priced that I knew I was not going to have an easy time replacing them. So I researched through Yelp. (As a Yelper, it only made sense!) I decided on Stitch Wiz in the Berkshire Plaza at Broadway and Camino Seco. Finding the shop was a bit difficult, but part of that was operator error (mine). The shop's name was over a side area and I walked the whole length of it, not finding the shop. So I called and the owner came out to find me. How embarrassing - the store was right in front of my parking space! I brought in a dress that I loved the top half of. It has pleats and fancy stitching and I loved the cinched waist. What I wanted was to have the skirt (which was losing its hem anyway), to be cut off and hemmed a few inches below the waist. I picked it up today and it was perfect. I now have a gorgeous top with a peplum bottom. The price was fair and I am happy to have found my new alterations shop. read more

I was reticent about losing my tailor in San Diego, Wahdat at Mesa Clothing and Alterations due to my move to Tucson. Wahdat had been working with me for over 20 years, and the work was always perfect. Sencha Lee, the owner of Stitch Wiz, is a very competent tailor. She does a lot of wedding dress work, proms and formals. She takes pride in her work and she charges fairly. She has shortened shirt sleeves (less than 20 dollars) and worked on some basic custom things for me...She delivers when she says she will and the quality is there. Boy is it difficult to find a talented, excellent tailor in these parts! I found Stitch Wiz after combing through reviews and not wanting to go through my dry cleaner, but find someone who does sewing/alteration as a craft. That is what I found here. Never believe anything bad anybody says about this woman and what she does. I brought in a service coat since I needed it done in less than a week for an event. It was so tight on me and it needed to all come out. I don't know how she did it, but she fixed it like a charm and it fit perfectly-- it looked wonderful, like it fit me all along. Also I gave her my trousers to hem and she did a beautiful job with those as well. All together my service was $100 which was a REALLY good price for the job she did. Also, my friend needed something done and when he came in she legitimately sewed on a patch and hemmed his jacket in less than 10 minutes (with talking in between, pinning the jacket, etc) because he needed it sooner than expected. And she did it! It's like I blinked and it was done. Not only that but the quality was still amazing even though she did it so fast. Took 3 pair of jeans to be hemmed. 3 EXPENSIVE BEAND NEW JEANS. ENDED UP WITH 6 ... that's right SIX DIFFERENT LENGTHS. One for each leg! Seams also run crooked and the lengths vary between 1/4" to 1/2" inch difference. How hard is it to measure an inseam? Probably would work better if this woman ever got off the telephone! I look like one leg is longer than the other in every pair she touched! TOTAL FAIL. NEVER AGAIN! Most UNprofessional place I've ever been! Does she even really know how to sew??? read more

We have used Stitch Wiz a few times over the years, most recently this week to alter a suit jacket that was just a tad too big. She did a great job and took her time to help us get the perfect fit and explain the process. We left the jacket with her feeling confident that the changes would be what we wanted. It was done in a week (smaller jobs took less time in the past) and it was done perfectly. The pricing is always reasonable and fair for the quality of work performed. The only downside is that she only accepts cash, but that w isn't really a big deal. Friendly service and very good work! I wouldn't go anywhere else. read more

My 20 ft. Inflatable screen came apart at the seam not allowing the screen to inflate all the way. The hole was pretty big and I wasn't sure it could be repaired. She looked at the damage and she worked with me to try and gamplan a fix. I showed her photos of the damage when the screen was inflated to give her a better idea. She didn't make any promises but said she would give it a shot. 2 days later I picked up the screen, repaired good as new. Who does this? Most places would scoff at the audacity of bringing in such an item but she just worked the problem and fixed it. I wish more businesses were like this. read more

Sonja did a perfect job on a difficult dress. I had a beautiful beaded dress which needed to be hemmed, and the straps shortened. I only had a week before I had to leave on a cruise, so she did not have much time to get the job done. If you could give zero stars that is what I would do. An incredibly horrible experience. My mother took a floor length gown here to have it hemmed for a wedding. When she picked it up, the two layers were hemmed at different lengths, neither of them coming close to reaching the floor. The dress is a gorgeous gown that is now ruined and my mother will need to purchase another one as it barely covers her ankles. My mother did go back to 'Stitch Wiz' to speak with the owner where she was told by the owner 'I don't care, sue me' and offered no refund for this complete lack of professionalism and skill. If you are looking for someone who will carelessly hack up your clothing, this is the place for you. If you don't want to have to bring your clothing for a second alteration somewhere else, or purchase new clothing, I would definitely steer clear of this "business". read more

My daughter need her uniform altered for a game. It was 24 hr notice. Everywhere I called had a longer wait time when I called here the lady said to bring her in that day and she will make it happen. She was amazing and customer service was excellent. The next day we went back to get the uniform and it was ready and fit perfectly. I will definitely be going back there. DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE WITH YOUR CLOTHING! If I could give this place zero stars, I would. Here's what happened. I needed a simple jumper dress to be made. I brought another perfectly sewn dress as an example to follow pattern and gave it to the seamstress. She accepted the job saying that the fabric was very hard to sew, therefore she requested price higher than usual... When I saw the dress she made, I was very frustrated: sewing quality was substandard with sloppy attention to detail. When I pointed that out the seamstress could care less that she's doing bad service. She refused to give a discount for poorly done job, instead she insisted on high price she requested before. This place is HORRIBLE: expensive, rude service, and the sewing quality is very poor. Will never return and guide all my friends to think twice regarding this place. read more

Brides beware. I brought my simple wedding dress in for a hem. This place was highly recommend by a dear friend. I took the dress in and the hem line was BUTCHERED. Please see attached photos. I brought with me my 2.5in wedding shoes for the hem appointment, as requested. I ended up having to buy a second pair of shoes for my wedding with a .5in heel instead of wearing my original shoes. I did not trust Stitch Wiz to take a second wack at the hem of my dress; instead I bought new (much shorter) shoes and let my hem drag on my wedding day. When I called to let the owner know of this issue with the hem she FREAKED out on me. She was defensive and mean. She provided no recourse to make up for the damage to my dress. She insulted my dress saying that it wasn't a wedding dress and made excuses for her less than perfect work. I ended up hanging up the phone because she was literally screaming at me and accusing me of calling her names. The photos speak for themselves. This was not quality work and there is no excuse for that. Do not recommend. read more

Had a bridesmaid gown hemmed and the straps taken up. The hem was $80 because it had 'multiple layers' - which truly it was just chiffon over a liner. And the straps were another $20. I felt it was a little steep but they did not charge me a rush fee even though I needed it within 4 days. I don't get things altered enough to really have an opinion about the price, service was quick and the person I interacted with was polite and kind. I felt the dress looked nice and fit well. Will probably shop around for quotes next time if I have more time, but overall not a bad experience. read more
