We were in town for just the night and a lot of places weren't open for dinner. Akari was the light on a cold foggy night! We opted to sit outside on the patio with our two toddlers and it worked out wonderful. Peggy was our waitress and she was very attentive and helpful. We ordered their salmon maki, taro negeri, spicy crab roll, californoa roll, miso soup, and edamame. Everything was amazing and so fresh. We will come back when in town. read more

Very late on the evening of the opening of the Shrimp Festival and all the restaurants were closing. Dined into Akari to grab something to eat. As busy as they were, we were seated very quickly and presented with a menu and placed a drink order. The menu was a mish mash of a variety of Asian food. That sent a "Red Flag" to me. Historically I have found that Asian restaurants in Jacksonsville who have these type of so called "Fusion" selection menus? Means they have no idea as to how the dishes are supposed to taste. So they do their version and 9 out of 10 times it is a disaster. And this was one of the 9 times. Had the Thai Basil beef? Stir fry with pieces of steak with the same flavor as my companions dish(something teriyaki). He ordered a sushi app and it came out with the same none sticky rice as my dish and was still warm? Sorry no photos, bottom line never again. read more

I would love to give 5 stars because this place USED to be so good. Not there's a new menu, which was my first red flag. Lots of dishes to choose from. The food is completely different from the years of times we have eaten here before. We ordered honey chicken, orange chicken, hibachi, Gyoza , sushi and pork egg roll. The sushi and egg roll were okay. All the other dishes were heavily breaded and fried. It used to be fresh , not breaded. The orange chicken was spicy and flavorless. The hibachi was so incredibly salty it was almost inedible. Sadly , another place had succumbed to buying frozen garbage from a supplier and serving it up. Another good place on the Island is a no go. read more

the sushi was so delish, but the service was awful. we were there for a total of 2 hours with one server serving 13 at a time. even when everyone left the server prioritized cleaning the tables at closing time instead of attending to our needs. probably won't go back unfortunately. read more

This place was amazing! the sushi was super delicious, tasted very fresh and was affordable; especially if you do one of the lunch specials during the weekdays. The setting was very peaceful and on the quieter side which i enjoy! Our waitress made polite conversation and was very helpful. I would absolutely go again! read more

We got there right before they closed between lunch and dinner. I had the dynamite bowl - delicious!! My husband had sushi - fresh large portions! Our waitress was attentive. Cute restaurant in Amelia Island. Next time when it's cooler we will sit on the patio! We will be back! read more

While this is a sushi restaurant, they have other items for members of your party who may not like sushi. I fell into this category. I had the hibachi chicken and was very disappointed. I asked for fried rice with it and the rice was just white rice with some soy sauce. The chicken tasted like boiled chicken with no seasoning. I shared with several members of my group to get their opinion and they also thought the chicken was bland and dry. Location is great and the other members of my party enjoyed their sushi. If you are not a sushi lover, there are better compromises. read more

We did takeout so my review will focus more on the quality of the sushi and the service and ambiance. I did get a chance to look around and Akari is a very nice, quaint restaurant on the inside - fairly small but welcoming. The sushi bar itself is pretty small, so not sure about getting seating there if you were interested. We ended up ordering edamame (good), miso soup (just ok), yellowtail nigiri, an eel/avacado roll, and the Amelia Island roll. The sushi was very good - we really enjoyed all of the selections. Would have been much better to be at the restaurant in person for the presentation, but the food was excellent. read more

We were hungry and decided to dine here for dinner after a long day. I was surprised that we had to first seat ourselves on the patio while reviewing the menu, then we had to go inside, wait in line, order at the counter and pre-pay. There was no service except for when they brought out our food on paper plates with plastic utensils. It was simply not the dining experience we expected but whatever. We each ordered our sushi and the wait wasn't too long. The sushi came out with a nice plated presentation albeit on paper plates. The sushi was the only saving grace at Akari. All of our rolls and nigiri were fresh and flavorful. Everything else from the service to the ambiance needs much improvement. read more

When I first walked into Akari, I was met with a fragrance that was not inspiring. It gave me pause, but the decor was lovely, and I was craving sushi, so I persevered. I'm glad I did. The hot saki put me in the right mood, the crispy spring rolls were a last minute addition to my order and so good I could just have eaten those, but then my sushi roll came out. It was lovingly made and packed with flavor, I'd definitely return. read more

I would give Akari Sushi 4+ stars, but it's just kind of grimy. The sushi is fresh and it is good .. the service is just 'ok'. It is in great location.... You can sit on the porch and people watch. It would be nice if they would take some pride & do some cleaning and picked some weeds. You can tell that it's not a priority for them. read more

Honestly, probably the BEST sushi I've ever had. FIVE STARS on service, food, and speed. We were in, out and happily fed in 30 minutes. And we did not feel rushed. Akari is an island fave and seldom disappoints. You'll pay a skosh more but get an authentic and enjoyable experience and they have the rarities like fresh sea urchin. The bldg is cool too and you can dine indoor, outdoor, or take it to go. I like to take you to go and eat on the docks at the marina (or even in my car because I cannot wait to get home! Ha!) Just good island sushi! read more

If you are in the mood for sushi, this is the best place on the island! I have eaten here at least 20 times and it is my favorite sushi restaurant. It has been some of the best sushi I have had. The service is good and I love the location. It is super close to the beach with indoor and outdoor seating. It's great to sit outside on a summer evening. read more

Oh man... I am SO sad that I do not live in Florida. This sushi was some of theeee best I have had. So fresh. Oh so melt in your mouth deliciousness! The atmosphere of Akira is great, the menu is not so large it is overwhelmingly, but big enough anyone will find something they like whether or not they are a raw/sushi type person (but if you are, you're missing out)! We ordered a few appetizers and our dinners, and everything came out incredibly quickly, especially considering how packed the restaurant was. The chicken tempura appetizer was an interesting one. It only had two pieces of chicken and four or five pieces of vegetables. Normally I'd consider that a little skimpy, but two pieces of chicken is pretty standard for a chicken tempura appetizer, so the vegetables were essentially a bonus. And honestly, they were phenomenal. I wouldn't change a thing about the portion. The dipping sauce was probably the weakest part of the meal. It wasn't bad by any means, but it wasn't particularly flavorful either. That's a pretty minor criticism considering everything else was so good. Then dinner arrived. The timing was almost perfect. Our food came out just as we were finishing our appetizers and had a chance to let everything settle. And WOW. The sushi was absolutely fantastic. Everything tasted incredibly fresh, the flavors were excellent, and the presentation was beautiful. One thing I particularly appreciated was that our waiter actually pointed out which roll was which on the serving plate. It's a small detail, but it made the experience feel much more intentional. The service was excellent throughout the entire meal. Our waiter checked on us enough to make sure we had everything we needed without constantly hovering over us. We never felt neglected, but we also never felt like we were being interrupted every five minutes. Overall, this was one of the most enjoyable dinner experiences I've had in quite some time. Great service fabulous food. I had the spicy Poke tuna bowl and it was fabulious my wife had the Hawaiian poke bowl and she devoured the entire content and raved how great it is we also had the tuna roll and the snowman roll and crunch roll. Atmosphere was beyond our expectations. I would recommend this to everyone traveling through . I am glad me and my wife stop in fernadina beach area on 9/25/2023. read more

I don't recommend eating at this restaurant. The service was terrible. The staff disregarded our presence even though we were the only people there. Their attitude was rude and disrespectful. The food was gross and clearly prepackaged. The miso soup still has the powder in the liquid and the rice had just soy sauce on it. Feel terrible. Don't recommend. read more

Our waiter promptly brought us a complimentary crab stick tempura appetizer, followed by a clear soup for each of us. Neither was something we ordered, and while it did mean we didn't even get a chance to order drinks until the soup arrived, I certainly wasn't complaining about being given free food! We ordered a few appetizers and our dinners, and everything came out incredibly quickly, especially considering how packed the restaurant was. The chicken tempura appetizer was an interesting one. It only had two pieces of chicken and four or five pieces of vegetables. Normally I'd consider that a little skimpy, but two pieces of chicken is pretty standard for a chicken tempura appetizer, so the vegetables were essentially a bonus. And honestly, they were phenomenal. I wouldn't change a thing about the portion. The dipping sauce was probably the weakest part of the meal. It wasn't bad by any means, but it wasn't particularly flavorful either. That's a pretty minor criticism considering everything else was so good. Then dinner arrived. The timing was almost perfect. Our food came out just as we were finishing our appetizers and had a chance to let everything settle. And WOW. The sushi was absolutely fantastic. Everything tasted incredibly fresh, the flavors were excellent, and the presentation was beautiful. One thing I particularly appreciated was that our waiter actually pointed out which roll was which on the serving plate. It's a small detail, but it made the experience feel much more intentional. The service was excellent throughout the entire meal. Our waiter checked on us enough to make sure we had everything we needed without constantly hovering over us. We never felt neglected, but we also never felt like we were being interrupted every five minutes. Overall, this was one of the most enjoyable dinner experiences I've had in quite some time.
