Yummy roll (x2)
Michelle L.

We have been coming here for years but since we moved we don't visit quite as much as before. However we stopped in last night and we were still delighted with the service and the delicious food. The restaurant is always clean and the ambiance is nice for a date night or for a family outing.

Gyoza
Allison C.

We dined in on a Friday night. We had a larger party and they were busy but we were sat promptly. We live locally and have visited a handful of times. We have always enjoyed fast, friendly service here. We got the bogo beer and wine for happy hour (5-7pm), vegetable tempura, golden cheese wontons and gyoza to start. The veggies were beautifully crisp and the cheese wontons are a little on the sweeter side than I would've expected but good nonetheless. The hibachi was very generously portioned and the sushi roll was beautifully made and presented. Two party members received a warm beer (due to a keg change) and when brought to the attention of the server two cold bottled beers were brought out promptly. We felt the service was above and beyond and everyone enjoyed their meals. We will be back.

Chicken Katsu Bento Box (the bowl is dipping sauce)

Stopped in last night for dinner with my wife. Upon entering this small Asian restaurant in a Publix shopping center in Oakleaf, we were greeted by a hostess who seated us at a semi-circle booth near the front door. It was a fun place to sit with my wife for a date. Our server greeted us, provided us with our menus and took our drink orders. The menu is a little expansive and if you are undecided, you will have a hard time choosing. Also, the dine-in sushi menu does not have descriptions of the rolls but our server gave us a take out menu which shows ingredients. After several visits by and some help from our server, we settled on the dinner bento box which consists of a choice of protein, soup and salad, tempura vegetables, tempura shrimp, shrimp shumai, and a California roll. I opted for the chicken katsu and my wife opted for teriyaki shrimp. Note, your soup and salad options are limited it is not any soup or salad on the menu. We received our soup and salad first. Clear soup for both of us and a garden salad with ranch for her and a garden salad with ginger for me. The soup was fresh and the salad was okay but we were only given forks and having a knife to cut some of the larger veggies would have been appreciated. When our bento boxes arrived, we were amazed by the portion sizes. Each box had 3 shrimp tempura, several tempura veggies (broccoli, sweet potato, onion, zucchini and acorn squash), 3 shrimp shumai and a whole California roll. Plus our protein a whole chicken katsu breast for me and six teriyaki shrimp on a bed of veggies for her. The food was well prepared and tasted good but a couple of items missed for us the ponzu sauce for my katsu was a little too sweet for my taste and my wife's veggies for her shrimp tasted a little burnt. Not a bad choice for dinner in the Oakleaf area, I would recommend giving it a shot. They also do carry-out.

This was actually my first time eating inside. I've had it for take out quite a few times. The service was really good. We were sat down immediately. It was nice and clean inside. Or waiter was very helpful. The food was nice and fresh and everything was so good, as always.

Fish tempura roll, oshinko roll, squid and tamago (egg) nigiri
Didi N.

One of my favorite sushi places next to Sushi Bear. The restaurant is always clean, has nice lighting, and pretty good customer service. I usually don't come here to dine in but get their to-go. They have lunch specials that are affordable and it comes with soup (clear chicken broth or miso) and salad (with ginger or ranch dressing) and your choice of 2 or three rolls (you pick from a list) for either $12 or $15. The rolls are decent size, some of them though only have 5 or 6 rolls instead of the standard 8 rolls. It depends on what you get. Sometimes the rolls aren't cut all the way and the filling falls out when I try to pick them up (hence, knocking off one star). It can get messy if the rolls aren't cut all the way and they end up falling apart. Other than that, most of their rolls are pretty tasty, filling, and the presentation is always nice. The rolls I had last time were: Fish tempura roll: 8/10 - I appreciate that they added alot of fish tempura (fish fried in a batter) to the roll! The rice to fish ratio was perfect!!! I believe it has avocado inside and masago on top, but it's one of their more delicious rolls! I just wish they would serve the usual 8 quantity because I wanted more of it. Oshinko roll: 8/10 - another roll that I love. It's essentially a daikon (pickled radish) roll and the tartness of the radish goes along so well with the seaweed and rice. This is more of a maki style as the seaweed is wrapped outside of the roll instead of inside the roll. Tamago and squid nigiri: 9/10 - two of my favorite nigiri! I love the tamago (sweet egg) because it reminds me of a sweet, egg soufflé. The squid is so fresh as it had no fishy aftertaste, but it is a bit chewy (squid has a chewiness to it) for those who are keen about textures. I also like getting Toro (tuna belly) when its in season as it just melts in your mouth due to the marbling on it! I've tried other rolls here and they've all been delicious and great! Another favorite roll is the sweet potato tempura roll. The sweetness of the sweet potato cuts down on the richness of the eel sauce, rice, and seaweed. Overall, a solid place for sushi and they do have happy hour specials too! Their rice to filling and roll ratio is great too and they don't overly add rice to their rolls. One thing I noticed about not so great sushi restaurants is that they typically add way too much rice to filling ratio. But here at Akaya, you don't get any of that. I suggest you come try out this place!

One of my favorite places to visit when I am in town. The prices for sushi are decent and their lunch special is great. (I usually go for their 3 maki rolls for $15 with soup) They recently raised the prices of their lunch. Their teriyaki and eel rice plates are also great. The teriyaki chicken comes out on a hot plate. You can always see and smell it as the server carries it across the restaurant. I have tried their hibachi and that is also delicious. The business owner and staff are always friendly and the service here is great. If you are getting to go on a busy night it might take a little long but I have never waited longer than 10 minutes for a table. On weekends it tends to get busy I have not tried their drinks or anything at the bar but their rolls are great. I usually get the Lion King roll at dinner and there is no other place that does it as they do. Overall, their prices are decent for what you get and I love coming here for a quick eat or for dinner.

Great service & delicious Expresso Martini. Perfectly chilled. This location is in a great hideaway. Service always fast and staff friendly.

Nice hostess and waitress drink orders taken shortly after being seated. They have a nice bar/cocktail menu but we ordered iced tea (fresh brewed yeah!). We ordered sushi as appetizers and two entrees. Everything was fresh and had a lot of flavor. Typical sushi restaurant in a strip mall decor and it was nice and clean. We enjoyed our sushi and our entrees and bonus leftovers for lunch!

This little place was an accidental find in a new area to mem I was in that area doing business and I saw this restaurant. I love sushi and had to try. You will be seated by a hostess. The dark decor was relaxing. They have t.v.s mounted all around. They have free wifi. I got a soft shell appetizer and scallop hibachi lunch. They are average prices thy tasted above average. The food was yummy. I was filled quick. I recommend this place if you are a sushi restaurant lover. Next time I am in that area I will definitely try the sushi there.

The rolls I ordered were just low quality. Like I was eating store bought sushi. Don't think I will come here again. It was sub par. Service was fine. I ordered Green tea, Steamed Pork Buns, Wonton soup, and Sizzling Steak with white rice. The Green tea came right away and it was a single cup. I had to order tea again to get a refill. The Wonton soup was served and it literally had no flavor. I opened a couple of the wontons and there was in fact a small piece of pork inside, but it had ZERO flavor, no taste whatsoever. The broth it was served in, had not a hint of pork. I asked the server about the flavor and she said she would have to ask the cook, but they never got back to me and they didn't offer to take it off my bill. I do not consider this good service. The Steamed Pork Buns were served and again there was no pork flavor. I broke it half and handed it to my girlfriend and she tasted it, no flavor. We even tried to eat the pork in the bun separately and it had no taste of pork. I wondered if it was actually pork. The last item was Sizzling Steak with peppers and onions. The steak was tough and very chewy and again there was no flavor. I could taste the onion and peppers, but the steak had no flavor. I don't think I have ever had such a bad experience in an Asian restaurant. The pictures I shared are different than the menu, the pork buns I shared are the actual. The menu shows 4 buns. The white rice was a very small serving, my girlfriend said they didn't provide enough rice. If you have eaten here and enjoyed your meal, post a review. I personally would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. I give one star only because the Kung Pao Chicken was very good. Everything else was not worth what I was charged. I would also confirm what another customer posted about the seat covering in the booths. Note: I have not tried any of the sushi, or anything except what I wrote in my review. I forgot to take a photo of the Wonton soup.

Service was friendly, and the basics were basic and fine. But our sushi roll (ordered as an appetizer) didn't come out until halfway through our meal and it was more rice than anything else, to the point that all other flavors were covered by rice. Highly disappointing. The chef was fine, but didn't even comment on the child's birthday. Neither did the server, but did at least put a candle in the fried ice cream that I ordered (and paid for of course) that I asked for when she was starting to ask about the check. The check was to be split 3 ways and was done wrong, and I just paid the extra on mine instead of dealing with it. The bathrooms were filthy. We used to go here several times a year, and it really seems to have gone downhill.

I know I'm probably not gonna be popular with my opinions, but they are in fact my opinions in my feeling about what I had today. Food--4/10. If you know me, I hate to leave less than stellar reviews for places. But I was very unimpressed by the food here today. Almost everything was bland and locked flavor. The gyoza was over fried, the hibachi items were cooked well but lacking all seasoning, the mango rock roll tasted like nothing, and the spicy shrimp tempura roll had neither flavor nor spice. The only decent role was the sweet potato roll. I'll also say even the wasabi had no kick. I literally took the entire dollop and put it on a roll just to try to get some flavor from it. Also for the tempura items, they don't bring you any kind of Ponzu or dipping sauce. All you get is the regular Yum Yum sauce or soy sauce. I left my review at a four out of ten because all of the food items were prepared for the most part aesthetically, pleasing, visually and fully cooked pour the parts that were cooked. Service--7/10. The staff here was definitely amiable. I wouldn't say they were very friendly. They kind of addressed everything very mechanically. Even the food when it's brought out multiple orders are brought out by one person, and they dropped them at various tables without saying a word. I did not get a refill of my drink for the first time until the end of my meal. Atmosphere--9/10. This is one of the few times I have not taken a picture of the interior of a restaurant to share the atmosphere. Usually, I avoid taking pictures when there's a good amount of people around because I feel like I'm invading their time with their meal and companions. So all I can really say about this location is it is generally pleasing. It's it's clean. I'll be a bit crowded with the tables. The location is in a strip mall in Mandarin and parking is a little weird. The parking spots are very close though. All know it was an OK visit for the price. I feel like in my personal opinion there is much better sushi out there for only a couple dollars more per person for the buffet. But based on the crowds, they're even today it's obviously a popular location. It just was not my idea of good sushi.
