We ended up having a private show, I say that because we were the only ones seated at our table so the chef catered to us directly. Talk about VIP treatment #spoiled I loved it!!! My meal was the chicken and steak hibachi while my friend had the same with the addition of shrimp. The meal was yummy and so was the salad with the dressing. We went as a group of 10 to celebrate a 10th birthday, and ordered one kids meal, one sushi roll and mostly steak and shrimp combinations. Service was friendly, and the basics were basic and fine. But our sushi roll (ordered as an appetizer) didn't come out until halfway through our meal and it was more rice than anything else, to the point that all other flavors were covered by rice. Highly disappointing. The chef was fine, but didn't even comment on the child's birthday. Neither did the server, but did at least put a candle in the fried ice cream that I ordered (and paid for of course) that I asked for when she was starting to ask about the check. The check was to be split 3 ways and was done wrong, and I just paid the extra on mine instead of dealing with it. The bathrooms were filthy. Sat at the bar during lunch and service was fantastic, the bartenders and servers were just happy and upbeat. This place has serious decor, so if you come for a date you should be pleased. I was there for a business lunch and it was good for a meeting. The food was good, not great, but like I said, the ambience and service were great. It was not that the sushi was bad, but there are just much better sushi places in the area. But what about the food Hawaiian Roll - this was tasty, really not what I expected. Dancing Eel - meh, it was okay. Crawfish Roll - another good roll. Alaska Roll - probably the best roll we sampled. Tuna Roll - okay, it was okay. Like I said, it is not that anything was bad, it was just not as good as other locations nearby. It is kind of like the difference in a steak from Golden Corral and Outback Steak House. The portions of the dish were plenty, but the food lacked any flavor or umami taste. The set included salad and a soup with a very little small taste of miso. When I walked in the door, I immediately smelled cooking oil, which was unpleasant since I had the sense that there was old oil residue all over the entrance/reception area that needed to be cleaned. Service was OK. We went early and the restaurant was empty. After we told our server that we needed more time, he gave us time -- but it was too much time. We had to flag him down. The tables were clean and the ambiance was OK except for the music which sounded like disco/dance. While it may be popular with many people, I don't think that type of music belongs in a Japaneses restaurant. It was very off-putting. I had the seaweed salad which was good; it was piled on a plate without a garnish which would have been nice. The miso soup was good. The sushi appetizer was good; the plates were ordinary (nothing special) and there was little, if any garnish. The udon noodles were incorrectly cooked because they were so chewy. The broth was salty and I'm not sure if it's true but I had the sense that it was actually beef stock from a little carton that you buy at a grocery store. Why would seafood udon have dark broth? There was very little seafood or vegetables, but here's the worst part - when I bit into something that I thought was a scallop, it was so chewy that when I took the uneaten part out of my mouth, my teeth had made impressions in it! That should **NEVER** happen. It made me think that it might be a candidate for the Gordon Ramsey Restaurant Rescue show. This place used to be one of my favorite places to eat, but sadly today's experience will probably cause me not to go back. It's my birthday and I decided to go here since I haven't been in a while. We had a party of 8. My son has never had hibachi before, and so I hyped him up telling him about the cooking show he can expect and he was so excited. How disappointing when the chef came out and did no entertainment at all. Didn't even say hello, and was mumbling under his breath the whole time. Very disappointing. Probably the worst hibachi chef I've ever encountered, and with 2 kids at the table you would think he would do a little something exciting for them to see. If he hates his job maybe he needs to find a new one. The place is filthy. We got there at noon and the bathrooms were already disgusting. Dust hanging from the ceiling, the floors were sticky, and dried up rice on one of our plates. The food was ok, but the cook didn't ask if anyone wanted any sauce refills before he packed up and walked off. Our waitress Wendy was very pleasant. I hate that she will have to split her tips with that cook. The rest of the experience was pretty bad. This place lost 8 customers today. In town visiting family and I treated my niece and nephew to dinner. Interesting that this place is called sushi rock, because I found the sushi to be the weakest part of the meal. We got a Philadelphia roll, a bagel roll, grilled tuna roll and an eel roll. The rolls were small and were just okay. Granted I didn't get fancier/raw rolls. Do maybe that would make a difference? We also got veggie tempura, which was fine. The star was the hibachi. I got shrimp and scallops and was impressed with how they tasted. The scallops were huge and flavorful. I want to start by saying the sushi was ok and the food was pretty good but the main reason for my rating was the bathroom. My wife had went to the restroom and there was literally feces smeared on the wall. Dried up feces. She told a lady about it when she walked out of there and the lady shook her head ok and went about her business. When I told the server, instead of taking my whole plate she just told me to put the roll that had hair on it on a separate plate and she would redo it... EW! The service is pretty good, so the stars are really for that.. ordered a California roll for my son while waiting for the hibachi and it was slimey, and black. Not sure why they would plate that, look at it and then decide that it was okay to bring out., that means you don't care about what you are putting out to your customers. We sent it back and they didn't say sorry, can i fix you something different or anything. THEY KNEW IT WAS BAD. Which is why they didn't put up a fuss over it being sent back. After eating only a few bites of the hibachi my son and I got sick and had to spend the rest of the evening making trips to the bathroom. I came here to celebrate one of my girlfriend's birthday for lunch, who I haven't seen in a while and this hibachi restaurant was closest to her. On a Saturday for lunch, it wasn't busy. Lots of open hibachi tables and it was quiet. The hostess greeted us when we arrived and walked us to an open hibachi table with family and children. The waitress came by, handed our menus and took our beverage order. When she returned, I ordered the steak (medium rare) and chicken hibachi with fried rice and vegetables and my girlfriend ordered chicken with double rice, no vegetables. For sushi, I got the Rainbow Roll and she ordered the Philadelphia roll (?) - the crabmeat and cream cheese roll. The hibachi chef came out, checked our orders and started to cook. Normally at hibachi grills, the chefs are always entertaining and keeping things up to beat. It appeared he was nonchalant and quiet the whole time when he was cooking. Didn't really interact with us or towards the family with children sitting at the same table either. He didn't do any chef tricks or onion "volcanoes". Just pretty much focused on cooking. It was a bit of a bummer for us, but I guess they are more entertained at night than during the day. Although the chef wasn't entertaining however, his cooking was really good. The fried rice and vegetables were cooked nicely and not too salty. The chicken was great and cooked enough to still keep the meat juice in place. The steak was more medium than medium rare except maybe two pieces. It was still juicy and cooked nicely though. Everything was cooked well and I think that was what made the difference in giving the extra star. He lacked interaction, but his cooking was phenomenal. My girlfriend also experienced and felt the same way. The sushi tasted good and was made well. Overall, my experience during lunch with the chef wasn't that great however, his food was more than satisfactory. I think maybe next time, we'll visit the evening to see if there's a difference in the atmosphere with the staff and chefs - we won't mind giving it another shot. read more

Went for an anniversary dinner here tonight. The service was great. we got seated immediately. A party of 6 joined us and our waiter was quick to take our drink order. Quickly came back with out drinks and took our orders. Wish had gotten the name of our cook. He was engaging and cooked all of our food to perfection. I ordered filet, scallops and shrimp and my husband had filet and salmon. Absolutely perfect. I had lots of leftovers and can't wait till lunch tomorrow. I had hibachi with scallops and shrimp, fried rice, vegetables. Soup and salad. I also ordered a dynamite roll. I'll view by order. Dynamite roll - I really think they gave me the wrong thing. It was my least favorite dynamite roll I've ever had. I would not order this again. Soup and salad - ok Rice and vegies - needed more seasoning. I added soy sauce and that helped. Shrimp and scallops - the stars of the day. There were great and would definitely order those two again. A friend had some type of sushi roll, and it was in cut in big pieces. She needed to cut it so she could eat it. Problem was the cook wouldn't give up his knife, I understand that. There server was asked, but she never brought one. Near the end of the meal my friend gave up and just ripped it apart with a fork (didn't go well). My meal was average, some highs some lows. Firstly, I used to go to this place when it was across the street as just plain ole' sushi rock. I didn't even know that they moved and expanded! Nice spot (old Smoky Bones maybe?) by the mall, very large inside with countless grills. I did notice it slightly smelled of something odd when walking inside, but the aroma soon took over from the grills. We waited a short five minutes before being sat. The place is very loud as a warning ... louder than other hibachi places. I ordered the filet and shrimp, and it was very good. You definitely will not leave hungry. I usually have my birthday party here every year. However, we waited there for over an hour for my birthday party just for the manager to give up what was supposed to be our table to his friends that came in after us. They were unapologetic and had no sense of urgency for us. The manager claimed the party made reservations 3 months prior yet whenever we called they told us they don't take reservations. I was scrambling to figure out where to take my girlfriend on a date, and Kyodai was right in the neighborhood. I'd never been before, and she was dying to try it. We went in and requested to sit in the hibachi area, and they put on quite a show. Server was great, checking in but never overbearing. Chef was talented and had a good sense of humor--paid attention to what people liked, made subtle decision based off of the group he was serving. They take great pride in their work and their customer service. The menu looks pricey until you see just how much food they put on your plate, while considering that you're also paying for a performance. This is the place to go if you want to be really present with your partner or party; don't go if your group is going to be on your phone the whole time. Jimmy Lueng misrepresented himself as simply a worker and not the owner of the business. A party of 20 was seated for a birthday dinner. One of the tables went out, and half the party was told that they would have to be moved away from the other guests and their food recooked. When asking the manager to comp the half that had to be delayed an hour and moved from the party, we were advised that the owner would have to do so. The owner lied that he was only a sushi chef and yelled at 3 of the guests about the loss he was taking on the food they'd thrown out; as if the guests chose his faulty equipment. As a large African American party, I did not like how we were profiled and stereotyped by this business owner's treatment. He was yelling in attempt to goad us into a trope ADOS cultural behavior as if to absolve himself of any wrongdoing and mishandling of customers. Very disappointing as we have enjoyed coming here on several occasions, but their apathy for the treatment of people in the community in which they service was extremely off putting. read more

We came here before and walked out because after we received our waters no one came to check up on us. Fast forward to probably a year or two later. A friend invited me here for a birthday dinner so we obliged. My wife order a sushi roll that was topped with mango, not bad but don't remember what it was called. Had an order of the edamame and my son enjoyed those. Kind of hard to mess that up though. The dull star of the night was the hibachi. We ordered the 3 meats - Shrimp, Chicken and steak, then added on salmon and scallops with the $6 share upcharge. We could have totally went without the salmon because it was skimpy and not worth it. I asked for extra cabbage and the server looked at me sideways. HOW THE HECK DO YOU NOT HAVE CABBAGE, no lie. I was looking forward to the cabbage the whole way there. Our chef started with the basic spatula banging and egg trick that didn't work out so well. The other Hibachi chef that was in the middle was more entertaining. Our food was decent but it's no better or worse than the other hibachi grills we have been to. The server added a 18% gratuity to our bill. Keep in mind there was 4 adults and 2 teenagers (11, and 14) and a 4 yr old. I guess they still count as a party of 6. Really a pretty good place but I got REALLY confused when I arrived. You might see I am writing a review of a place titled "Kyodai Sushi Rock" just the same as it showed up on Google Maps BUT when I arrived I walked into a place whose sign read "Kyodai Steakhouse". As I was sent there by my Hilton Hotel front desk clerk for her recommendation for a great sushi spot I was just a little puzzled but managed to power through. Nice atmosphere and quiet enough for good conversation but it does, I must admit, appear to have more a decor of a steakhouse and not a Sushi spot. Although I've been to many places just like this, I never get tired of watching these guys cook and perform in front of people!!! This restaurant is pretty spacious with a lot of places to sit l. We thought we had to wait 30 minutes for a table, but we ended up getting seated in 10! For a Friday night, I thought that they didn't have enough waitresses because our waitress had been waiting on at least half of the restaurant. Also, she took awhile to refill our drinks - never a good thing when you REALLY notice your drink's empty. Our waitress' customer service also seems kind of fake and when we tried to call her she was almost ignoring us and didn't even bother to turn around, then walked the other way. As for the food, it was pretty good, but I will say that the salmon I had was a little salty. The meal that I chose was the steak and salmon dinner that came with soup, fried rice and salad. I also shared a dynamite roll appetizer with my boyfriend and there was so much salmon in there! We are always use to it having rice so this was a bit different, but it was still good :) Overall I had a really good time and our chef was pretty funny. He gave us each to pieces of shrimp for everyone at the table and since my boyfriend didn't want vegetables he gave his helpings to me T___T This place is great for families and groups, you will definitely have a great time!
