The fish and chips here were outstanding. It was high quality black cod with a crispy, golden shattering-shell tempura type crunch, very flavorful. I'd have to say that bite for bite the fish itself might be the best in the county by a hair, but the full entree lags just behind Battery 245 and Ship Out in terms of fry / coleslaw quality, aesthetics, and overall value. But neither of those places are on the Astoria waterfront with million dollar views, so that's to be expected. If you're craving fish and chips with a view in downtown Astoria, don't hesitate to order them here, the fish was phenomenal. read more

This restaurant seemed to have a nice selection and sides to choose from, especially for my daughter who is vegetarian and somewhat picky about food. When we got our menus and the waiter came, I asked about the sides that we can order because those were on the menu. The waiter said, well, we can pretty much make anything a side. That wasn't very helpful. We took a while to decide. When we came back, he pushed us to order something, so we did. I order a salad with salmon. My daughter order veggie kabobs and her best friend ordered a loaded potato. The food 30 minutes to get out. My daughter friend started drinking her soda and it had no carbonation. When the food came, my salmon was cold - it was precooked and just taken out of the fridge straight to the salad. The loaded potato wasn't fully cooked. The kabobs - some of the potatoes were super mushy, while others were fully cooked through and they tasted like lemons. Very tart. Some of the veggies weren't cooked - it was like eating raw veggies - this meal costed $30. When I mentioned this to the waiter, he had a very confused faced. He then stated, I thought I pressed the carbonation button with the soda... huh.. I've worked in the restaurant industry for years. I know that's not how that works. Many dishes on the menu looked really good. I was torn between the mushroom pasta dish and the clam chowder. I asked the waitress and she said the chef is Italian and the mushroom pasta was one of the most popular, so I went with it. Boy, did I make the wrong choice. First off the flavor: it tasted like oil and faintly of garlic. Was supposed to be a white wine sauce, but had no hint of sharpness or tang as I would expect from a white wine sauce. Secondly, and most egregious, the sauce was completely split. Which makes sense as it seemed to be 90% oil. Really, just terrible. Both the noodles and the mushrooms were severely overcooked with no toothsomeness left. I ate about half of the dish bc I paid for it and I regret it.. On to the positive.. my friends ordered fish and chips and chicken Parmesan, which were both extraordinary. Wow what incredible views. Every seat in this place has prize views. The deck is dog friendly and the restaurant sits at the end of a pier with spectacular views. We all enjoyed a light dinner along the mighty Columbia. They were great to serve us two bowls for the scallops and risotto. The scallops were tiny but yummy. Service was a bit odd. They told us a 20 minute wait and after like 30-40 minutes we asked and were sat right away. The tables were all open the entire time and nobody left in that window. Strange. read more

Our group of four ladies went here for a birthday celebration. We enjoyed being the first to enjoy the new Spring menu. Two had fish and chips with salad, very good. One had eggplant Parmesan. She rated it okay, but loved the pasta. I had the frutti di mare, which was outstanding. The clams were large, delicious and there was good size shrimp, calamari and scallops with homemade pasta and a good serving of bread. We also shared an appetizer of hummus, olives, tapenade, grape leaves and pita. The prices were quite reasonable for the quality of food, service and atmosphere. Dessert was a deconstructed Baklava, an ice cream dessert topped with shredded phyllo, honey and nuts. One more shout out to our wonderful waiter, an affable fellow from Chicago who kept us laughing and was a superb server. So this location has been several things. I didn't know it had changed again. This new restaurant was very nice. The vibe inside is peaceful and very beachy. We got a great seat on the deck. Service was a little slow, but we found out there was only one waiter on a Saturday. She was doing her best. We enjoyed a drink and a cup of chowder with a fantastic view. The service was amazing they could not have been nicer. We brought our dog Louie and ate on the deck over the water and it was beautiful. This was one of the best salmon plates I've ever had. So tender and the skin was even amazing. Also had the dessert with a scoop of vanilla ice cream with a shot of espresso over it and loved it. The espresso was bitter and you could taste the nice contrast to the ice cream. Outstanding! Simply put, this is probably the best restaurant in the Astoria/Long Beach area. We've been twice inside of 6 weeks, and it's been amazing both times. Let's start with the service. It's definitely a family-run business, and everyone is invested! Everyone working there seems to be enjoying it. This comes through in the service provided. Everyone chips in, from filling water glasses to bussing tables, etc. The ambiance is excellent. They've decorated the space really well; the tables and couches are comfortable, and every table has some sort of river view. There is an outdoor dining area - which was closed in January and February - that we'll definitely be taking advantage of this summer. I'm usually skeptical of new business out here at the mouth of the Columbia. I read so many Facebook posts about 'This restaurant is amazing' or 'the best Chinese food I've ever had.' This sets us up for disappointment. We'd heard good things about Akres, and every good thing we heard was validated. We haven't had anything in two dinners there that we wouldn't order again, and we intentionally chose different entrees each time to experience as much of the menu as possible. On our first visit in early January, we enjoyed the Chicken Kabobs and the Carlton Farms Pork. Everything was great! My wife loved the Kabobs, and the Pork was stellar! I don't normally like greens, but the seasoning used on the roasted potatoes and winter greens was just so good! The pork itself was cooked perfectly, slow roasted, but with crispy edges. We shared a Horiatiki Salad with Kalamata olives and feta that was great! It was the only food item we ordered both times we visited. The second time we visited, the restaurant was significantly more busy, as it was Friday evening before Valentine's Day. But the service was still great, despite the place being filled to capacity, including a group of 30 which was seated just 10 minutes after us. My wife ordered the special - Moussaka. She couldn't have been more pleased. In general, she'll order moussaka when it's available, and it usually underwhelms. Not last night! It was fabulous. I took a bite of her moussaka, then went back for another, and another - you get the idea. We ended up ordering one to take home, it was that good! I ordered the Fisherman's Pie, which I can best describe as a seafood version of a Shepherd's pie, without the pastry crust. It was great. Shrimp and scallops, baked with a garlic cream sauce, potatoes, seasonal vegetables and a blend of cheeses. Really tasty. But, to be thoroughly transparent, I enjoyed the moussaka a little bit more. Both times we visited, we order dessert, which was great. I think my favorite was the Deconstructed Baklava. Now, on to the cocktails. Or more appropriately, cocktail (singular). On our first trip, I tried the Underworld Manhattan. Awesome! How there aren't any pictures of this cocktail on Yelp! yet is beyond me (I'm about to rectify that). Fig-infused bourbon, sweet vermouth and orange bitters. The second time we visited, my wife and I both had one! The drink was crafted in-house by Samantha. You should definitely try one at Akres. It was an Outstanding, Beautiful SUNNY day in Astoria. We decided for outside/waterfront dining.........we chose AKRES on the Pier. JUST A NOTE: The hours they are open are incorrect....i brought this to their attention but Trip Advisor has the correct hours!! This is a nicely decorated place, Susan was super friendly and was alone for the first hour. She was very knowledgeable and very good at handling the front of the house and waiting on tables. She did a great job as it got very busy. BEFORE I START: I must Apologize for the pictures of our food.... The soup smelled so good we both dug in before I snapped the picture, same with our meal... WISH YOU COULD SMELL THE FOOD!!!! Had a Pilsner, very cold and then an extremely flavorful soup, sausage kale and potato. Then we ordered and shared Pasta Bolognese and Pork Belly/wild mushroom flatbread.. Both were excellent! The location, the menu, the views, river activity was fantastic and fun to watch salmon jumping out of the water. A bit on the spendy side for lunch but well worth it. Brand new Mediterranean restaurant on Pier 12 on the Astoria waterfront. The interior is gorgeous and welcoming, with amazing views of the ships anchted in the Columbia. Parking right on the pier is extra convenient. We came on the first day they were open for breakfast. There still ironing out the kinks on getting rolling, but thus place is super promising. The server (an owner I suspect) was incredibly friendly and attentive. I had the Shakshuka and my wife had a Dungeness tartan. The shakshuka is refined and smooth, spicy with a strong pinch of cumin. It's served with fresh pita. The Dungeness tartan has a zesty lemon gremolata high note. Delicious. Hoping for great success here. We've now eaten here at least four times. I intentionally waited to write a review until we had multiple experiences because I believe it's only fair to give any restaurant more than one chance--everyone can have an off day. After four plus visits, I feel comfortable giving an honest assessment. In my opinion, Akres is just okay. Without question, its biggest strengths are the beautiful location and waterfront views. Unfortunately, that's where the positives mostly end. The service has been consistently underwhelming, and the food has been average at best. Nearly everything we've ordered has lacked seasoning and flavor. The baked potatoes were dry and plain, with little to no seasoning. The ribs looked great with their barbecue glaze, and the sauce itself was delicious, but the meat was so overcooked and dry that it required a steak knife to separate it from the bone. The steak was cooked to the requested temperature, but it also lacked seasoning and any standout flavor. The drinks were fine, but nothing memorable. There are several other local restaurants that consistently provide better service and much more flavorful, higher-quality meals. That's disappointing because Akres has tremendous potential. The setting is beautiful, and it could easily become a standout destination. My biggest concern is management. A great view may bring people in once, but it won't keep them coming back. If the restaurant doesn't address the inconsistencies in service and significantly improve the quality and flavor of the food, I worry it may struggle to remain successful. The opportunity is certainly there, but at this point, the experience falls well short of the image and expectations the restaurant promotes. read more

We tried to go to Astoria Brewery with our dog, only to find they no longer allow dogs on the patio. We went across the street to Akres and had a wonderful dinner on their patio with our dog. The restaurant is very nice inside and out. This was our first time at Akres, and while they seemed a bit understaffed, overall it was a good experience. My wife enjoyed her Mezze Platter, and my fisherman's pie- while a bit overpriced for the couple of scallops and three shrimp- was tasty. read more

After leaving an honest Google review about our dining experience, I was disappointed to see the owner respond by claiming another guest overheard us saying that we "get free stuff by complaining." That allegation is completely false and had nothing to do with our visit. The conversation the owner referenced was actually about a sofa we purchased on Amazon that the seller allowed us to keep because it was defective and not worth the cost of return shipping. That has absolutely nothing to do with this restaurant. We never asked for anything free, never requested a discount, and paid our full bill of approximately $70 (including tip) for three lunches that were largely left uneaten because the food was so poor. If another customer truly overheard only part of our private conversation, they misunderstood the context. It's also worth mentioning that the tables are placed extremely close together, offering very little privacy. If you're looking for a quiet, intimate dining experience, this probably isn't the place. As for the food: The fish and chips were the greasiest we've ever had, suggesting the frying oil may not have been hot enough. They were easily the worst fish and chips we've eaten. The Reuben arrived on soggy bread. The first grilled cheese sandwich appeared to have sat under the heat lamps too long while we were in the restroom. When it arrived, the cheese wasn't even melted. The replacement wasn't much better--it was served on a thick, hard, heavily toasted hoagie roll. The bread was so dry and tough that I ended up peeling the cheese off just to eat it. The tomato soup was simply not to our taste due to an overpowering blend of spices. To the restaurant's credit, our server, Damante, was courteous throughout our meal and apologized several times. However, he did leave the food sitting under the heat lamp, so while his service was good, it was not exceptional. Our dissatisfaction was never with him--it was with the quality of the food. What disappointed me most was the owner's response. Rather than acknowledging that customers can have a genuinely poor experience, the response focused on attacking our character with an accusation that was both inaccurate and irrelevant. A thoughtful response that accepts feedback--even when it's difficult to hear--goes a long way toward building trust. Unfortunately, that wasn't our experience here. read more

We had the crudo which was different that any other crudo I've had but the fish was fresh and it was pretty good. We also had the scallops and risotto. Well thought out menu with something for everyone. Hours of operation are unpredictable and not posted at the door. Tonight was a really off night. The pear Gorgonzola salad had very little Gorgonzola; the dressing was flavorless; some of the lettuce was going bad; we had to ask twice for an extra plate (we were sharing); and had to specifically ask for cutlery and napkins. The Underworld Manhattan is described as made with fig-infused bourbon and is usually served with a fig garnish--but they'd run out and used regular bourbon with an orange twist without asking if it was okay. The fisherman's pie and pesto pasta were rich and delicious--but my daughter had asked to sub fettuccine for penne and got penne after being assured she could get fettuccine. We ran out of water midway through our meal. The lemon pomegranate mocktail was refreshing and lovely. It's a beautiful riverfront dining room and the kitchen is doing some great things. But front of the house really needs to improve on basic training and communication. read more

Everything was fantastic. 10/10! The ambiance couldn't be better with that spectacular view and wonderful music playing just the right decibel. The service was prompt and efficient. We ordered two aperol spritz which were served in large glasses so it was well worth the price. Now to the food, so good! Although the eggplant parm was not on the menu for the evening, they offered to make it for me! It was amazing! So flavorful and delicious. My partner got the lamb shank which was also just as good!! Our appetizers were the mezza platter and truffle garlic fries. Both excellent. Dessert was the deconstructed baklava. Unique and delicious. Such an enjoyable dinner. First time here, came over from Long Beach. It was absolutely worth the drive! It is so difficult to find an amazing meal and service these days. We went on a Friday in January and it was beautiful. The interior is elegantly and comfortably decorated. We sat in the corner front window and the couch is very comfortable. And the view can not be beat of course! We were served by Jeep who was fantastic server! We shared an appetizer salad and the Greek dressing was obviously made in house. So refreshing. I had the chicken kabobs and it came with perfectly cooked vegetables and potatoes , homemade tzatziki with their grilled pita bread. Great portions and all so mouthwatering delicious. This fat girl was so happy! My hubby had the pork and again it was perfect. Nice outside crisp to it and the cooked greens they served it with were almost just as good as the pork. My hubby will always eat his vegetables first so he can save the meat for last to enjoy. This time he was saving the cooked greens it came with. It was an amazing sauce they cooked it in and I would easily get a side of that next time. Then we had dessert. We had to try the chocolate, orange zest and cinnamon cake and also their deconstructed baklava. I am now a huge fan of pistachio ice cream. One of the best views in Astoria! Our fourth visit to Akers and it gets better every time! Service has improved leaps and bounds and some of the best cocktails in town! The food has always been very solid and we've sampled many of the menu items. Tonight we tried the ribs which were fall off the bone good. The couple we dined with had the Moussaka and the Lamb Kabobs which were both excellent. First, the good. The food was very good-clam chowder wasnt the overly thick variety that can be gummy. The side of calamari was a generous portion, fresh from the kitchen, and the Moroccan chicken was super good- flavorful and large serving as well. The bad...their service was poor. It took nearly 2 hours to get our food. The wait staff apologized at first then ignored us; we had to flag them down a couple of times. We spent the weekend in Astoria, which is an amazing city. We wanted to end our night with a great dinner here. Made reservations on OpenTable. And we were greeted with chairs on the table confusion from the hostess and straight up embarrassment with customers looking up upon us. The hostess said " did you make reservations" they decided to close early that day for no reason and ignored hours of operation. My friends and I decided to visit Akres for breakfast before we went to the Farmer's Market. The restaurant is nice looking and also has some tables outside on the pier so you can watch the ships come in. Although we were seated rather quickly, we waited over a half hour for someone to take our orders. The restaurant wasn't busy, and we were one of three tables of customers. While we were waiting, part of my friend's outside chair arm chipped and fell off. My other friend noticed white floaties in the bottom of her water glass. Not exactly sure what caused this. The outside music was also odd...Water sounds. When our food finally arrived, we were underwhelmed. I ordered the lox on focaccia bread. The bread itself was too thick and not that good. The bread was also cut into 4 rectangular pieces. Not the vision I had in mind. I gave my friend the lox, and she had stomach problems shortly after eating it. Our other friend tried to sprinkle salt on his omelette, but the salt had crystallized at the top of the shaker. Another wait for our bill after dining. We were very impressed at all catagories: the decor was both modern and welcoming, recently tastefully decorated for the holidays (though I would have preferred lights that don't flash). Great menu options for us vegetarians and the pear gorgonzola salad was fresh with a perfectly ripe pear and expertly toasted walnuts. My husband really enjoyed the salmon presentation with fall squash and cranberries. And after three days, I finally found a sauvignon blanc that wasn't domestic (from Australia) with the flavor profile of a classic SB. I had the pork, which was perfectly crispy on the outside (even after being delivered!) and soooo succulent on the inside. The braised potatoes and veggies were delicious.
