Absolutely LOVED Akron Family! It is the definition of perfect for the family. Our energetic 5 year old was in her element and the staff was so kind and patient with us. We had a great lunch! My husband got the Reuben & I had the Cobb salad. Both were fantastic! He truly enjoyed his sandwich. My salad was so fresh and the "small" was HUGE! We took an early all day road trip to Akron today to sightsee, shop and find a new place to eat on a Sunday. We decided on AFR for early lunch after driving by and checking reviews. We're glad we did. Rueben and patty melt were very satisfying. Corned beef was plentiful and good quality. Service was very good and friendly. Clean, modern atmosphere with some tighter seating areas. Started very busy at 11:00 but had cleared out mostly by 12:00pm. Even busy, no wait, seated immediately. I ate breakfast here and i won't be back. The hostess was an older woman dressed very nice. I thought perhaps she owned the place or worked there a very long time. Her husband and his friend were eating breakfast next to us. Older gentleman who looked like they worked construction or something similar. While trying to enjoy my meal, the two gentleman were having outrageous conversations. The gentleman talked about how he told a hostess at a different restaurant he used EBT to pay for his meal. He was upset that the hostess at that restaurant didn't think it was funny. He continued to talk about Mexicans and Spanish speaking people. Stating he wishes they'd all "go back to where they came from." He later mentioned that he hates Indians the most of all. Ignorantly he said he hates Indians who "speak Spanish"........right. Whatever that means. Also to the hostess who was dressed very nice... you should ask your husband how he allows his friend to speak about you. his friend said he's married with no kids or grandkids and wishes he had a "hot piece of ass" like that. We came in twice for dinner and once for breakfast. The first time we really liked our food for dinner, so we returned. I was not a fan of breakfast - which was blueberry pancakes and 2 eggs. The next meal was dinner again. The green beans were cooked to death and very watery. The mashed potatoes could not have been real. We had three different servers stop by for filling coffee/drinks, helping etc. the food was typical breakfast menu. Not much variation or unique. Kids enjoyed waffles and pancakes but they were just ok. The special was crab eggs Benedict. I wish I would have asked, it was imitation crab meat. It wasn't good. The Hollandaise was flavorless and the poached eggs were over cooked I did not complain because I don't think there was anything that could be done. I just didn't care for it. Stopped for lunch on a Saturday. The place is huge with a few private rooms that can accommodate large parties, like ours. I got a Reuben with fries & it was pretty good. We waited quite some time for our food & mine was cold when it arrived, like it had been sitting for a while. Despite that, it was still tasty. Our server was gone for long periods & apologized at one point, stating that she was the only one working three rooms. She was doing her best, though & was friendly. Nice Mom & Pop joint in Akron with a nice breakfast menu. There's a Greek influence which is great! I never had grilled gyro meat with my breakfast before and that's exactly what I did. The gyro slices grill up nice and brown. A little peppery, they went well with my two over easy eggs. I came with a side of pita bread and some hash browns as well.
