The service was horrible. I was with my mother and we sat down to have a glass of wine. Our waiter took 10 minutes to get our table. When he finally arrived, we ordered two glasses of wine. He asked what we wanted on the menu. We said we'd like to have a glass of wine and look over the menu. He got loud (to the point the other customers turned around) and said that we cannot stay there if we don't eat. My mother responded by telling the waiter that we did plan on eating (which we did) but that we just really wanted a glass of wine first. He angrily started speaking Italian again and the only thing I made out was stupid Americans. He also was extremely close (proximity wise) and had he not been a little man, I would have been somewhat concerned that he was going to get aggressive.
Now, for those of you who have visited Venice understand that walking all day is a given. I don't think wanting to have a glass of wine before dinner should be forbidden or attacked.
I'd like to remind this restaurant that they are in the hospitality business. Venice thrives off of this industry and it's a shame that this waiter left this poor impression. I hope others that do decide to visit here have another experience. Such an awful way to start a vacation. I can't be more serious when I say this man/waiter was aggressively rude.
