Al Fora was an absolutely outstanding find during our trip to Venice! We sat outside, soaking in the atmosphere while enjoying an incredible meal from start to finish. We started with the prosciutto and melon, and it was melt-in-your-mouth perfection. The bruschetta was some of the best I've ever had -- a little drizzle of balsamic vinegar took it over the top. For our main, we shared a pizza topped with mushrooms, pepperoni, prosciutto, and cheese, and it did not disappoint. Every bite was incredible. Our waiter really made the experience special, recommending a Pinot Grigio that paired perfectly with everything we ordered. Attentive without being intrusive, and clearly knew the menu inside and out. I left Al Fora with a huge smile on my face and a fully satisfied appetite. Had dinner here the last day of my trip and it was the best way to end it. The owner, who is a sommelier, recommended us a bottle that was a perfect fit for my taste! Ended up getting food poisoning & over priced. For 2 calamari Frittis, a grilled veggie plate and papas is was over 75.00. I wanted to use the last of me euro 50.00 and do the rest card and the server wouldn't let me. Made no sense. He was nice but not very accommodating at the end. read more

Ordered the diavola pizza and calzone being the good Americans we are. :) Cheese was fresh and I don't know what they put in their dough but it was the best part in my opinion. The calzone came out extra hot and huge! Basically an entire pizza folded over. I had the ham and mushroom calzone which was all they had on the menu that was calzone'd. My fiancee got the diavola pizza which was good, but the cheese wasn't the same imo and I preferred the calzone. Bonus Sunday morning though was kids playing their stringed instruments. I normally search for restaurants out of the main touristy areas for places where locals go to eat. Food: I ordered the gnocchi and sea bass. Both dishes used simple ingredients, and were both amazing! The gnocchi was warm, soft, and flavorful. The sea bass was cooked to perfection. It's a whole fish with the bones inside. First meal in Venice and we walked in unsure of what to expect. There was plenty of outdoor and indoor seating. It wasn't too busy when we arrived since it was before dinner time. Not very impressed by this place. Chose it based on the yelp reviews, and I was disappointed. We ordered a pizza and a salad to share amongst two people. The pizza was dry and nothing to write home about. They did certainly have a large menu with lots of choices but I guess I must have chosen the wrong things. The salad was even more unremarkable. It was just some plain iceberg lettuce that wasn't very fresh around the edges. Topped with a small amount of avocado tomato and cheese. There is a 2 euro per person cover charge which seems to be the norm here but I was not impressed at all with the service either. No one was very friendly. My family and I were strolling along in Venice on a Sunday afternoon in search of a place to eat, but sadly many places were closed. Al Faro just happened to be open and able to accommodate all 12 of us! We sat outside under big umbrellas that kept us away from the heat of the sun, and the location was great in that it wasn't in the center of a busy area but rather private despite being outside. Now the food - really good! I wasn't blown away, but I was definitely satisfied. Pasta was the perfect texture and the sauces were delicious (I sampled most of my family's orders and can confirm multiples sauces were delicious lol.) I had the spaghetti bolognese which was great, very simple yet flavorful. The servings were pretty decent as well. The pizza was really good as well! All in all, Al Faro is a pretty solid place for good quality Italian food. It's tucked in a nice little corner of the Jewish ghetto, away from heavily trafficked area so you know you're not falling for a tourist trap. We ate here looking for a reasonably priced authentic Italian restaurant, they did not disappoint! They were happy to make me a Bellini, despite it not being on the menu. Ate almost the entire plate myself! * bruschetta: 2 stars. The bread was burnt black in multiple spots on the bottom, so the burnt taste overpowered the dish. My wife had to use a knife to scrape off the burnt parts to make it edible. Mains: * pizza with salami, mushrooms, and arugula: 3.5 stars. My family and I enjoyed this place. Our first meal in Venice and we went here based on yelp reviews and it was close to our hotel. My wife had the salmon gnocchi and I had the grilled sea bass. My son ordered the calzone and everything was delicious. Our waiter was also great. After a long day of walking and sightseeing we craved for a Neapolitan pizza to eat back at our hotel. Our last meal in Venice & I'm absolutely in looooove. First, the staff: they are wonderful & sweet. Our waiters paid attention while we were eating to make sure we didn't need anything, but I'm glad they're nothing like American waiters and constantly ask if I'm okay with my mouth full of food. Now, the FOOD! A M A Z I N G. To share we ordered the fried squid & prawns (can't remember the exact dish name) and with just a little lemon on top, it needed no dipping sauce. It tasted like actual seafood not something that was once upon a time frozen then thawed & fried. for me: squid ink spaghetti. It's definitely a bit salty but that's what I'm looking for with seafood dishes so I'm so happy, and the taste was like nothing I've ever had before. If you're in Venice, you need to eat this pasta at least once! my boyfriend: romana pizza (tomato, mozzarella, basil & anchovies) again, the pieces with anchovy were salty but it's what we expected so no let downs at all! And it was prepared & baked right in front of us so we know it was made well. Takeaway: I got gnocchi Di salmone and all I have to say is: GET IT! I took a bite when we got back to our hotel just to try it while it was warm & I wanted to eat it all despite just having a full meal right before. A nice pizza place with outdoor dining in small square. On Saturday night this place was BUSY, with lots of locals eating their own pizza. Ok, let's try this place out! I had the table wine, not bad and a decent price for the pour (.5 Liter), the caprese was nice and juicy and the pizza was hot and fresh! Pizza is available in a ton of configurations, typically for 9€. They do charge a small service charge, but hey, it's a nice outside dining area! They have other Italian appetizers and dishes...the lasagna and calzone looked good, too! The wait staff was busy but cared and was trying. I had gotten the last table, so I enjoyed the people watching and my wine...but overall, dinner took an hour. Not bad on Saturday night at 8pm. Delicious restaurant in the heat of Venice. Everything in Venice is a good 20min walk from each other and this little restaurant was a surprise find. I had the set for 15 euros which came with an entree, a second dish, and a side. I ordered the squid ink pasta which met all my standards of pastas. It was chewy with full of flavor. The noodles were cooked al dente. The calamari was great but it was too oily and soft. There needed to be more crunch to it. AMAZING!!! We came here last night after we we got back from the airport based on the amazing reviews. We took the 5.2 vaporetto which brought us a couple of minutes away from this place. Even though it was late, the owner greeted us quickly and have us a table. My husband had the eggplant and pork pizza which he was delighted with (and wasn't sure it would taste good when he ordered it) and I had the Fresca Pizza (which is basically tomato sauce, basil, mozarella cheese and fresh tomatoes) which was AMAZING! We had the house red wine which was chilled, delicious and inexpensive. To top it all off, we had the Nutella Pie (it had another name but that is what it looked like) which was INCREDIBLE. All for less than 25 euros (we had an entire liter of their house red wine, mind you). Please do not hesitate to come here. You will not be disappointed!!! A right sized portion of penne with a great spicy tomato sauce. Not overpowering with just the right amount of heat. Highly recommended!! For the price and the service in the area, this place can't be beat! We came here in the off-season. We ordered the risotto, the grilled sea bass, the mixed grilled fish plate, and also the squid ink spaghetti. Every single one of those dishes were done well, we enjoyed ourselves immensely. But the real highlight of the place was the service. The staff was incredibly warm and joked easily alongside our party members despite the language barrier. We were also trolled once with an empty plate, and another time with another party's bill when we fought over paying for it. One of the waiters also hopped in happily for a group photo at my invitation. We enjoyed a night of great food and many laughs. This place made us very, very happy. If you get a chance to visit the Cannaregio area of Venice, don't hesitate! No other restaurant in the world has plastered a smile on my face longer. read more

The food here is overall really good. We got the lasagna (really good), seafood pasta (pretty good although pasta felt undercooked), and a pizza (generally good). The service here however was abysmal. It was the worst out of all the Venice restaurants we visited. I ordered a spritz which they about 30-40 minutes after the order only after we reminded them. A couple next to us who sat down after us got their drinks plus a refill before I got my drink. Then for one of our dishes we specifically said no shrimp as my partner is allergic. The dish was brought out with shrimp and had to be sent back to remade. As for our pizza dish I am fairly certain that they forgot to make our pizza at all. We received our pizza 5 or so minutes after we had to remind them about it. At this point it's been at least an hour since we came in. Another couple who sat down way after us ordered and got their pizza before we did. I understand if you are busy it is hard to keep track of things. But at least check on your customers to give them an update so they are no left wondering what is going on. We ended our Venice visit with this meal, and that completely sucked leaving on such a sour note. read more
