After together lamenting the fact that much of Venice's restaurant stock is geared solely towards the tourist trade, my hotel concierge recommended two places. Both of those places certainly get their share of tourists but one look at the menu at Birraria La Corte, one of the spots he recommended, made clear that this was quite an elevated offering. Here, the pasta is homemade and the menu descriptions read like poetry. To wit, our orders: * Mezze maniche with nettle pesto, goat cheese "Gran Cao" & cardamom (20€); and * Homemade ravioli stuffed with lamb, fresh peas, yogurt and chive (22€) Both dishes were fresh, creative, and made with care but about nettle pesto I'll admit I've no desire to sample it again. The ravioli, shared a similar consensus. Both dishes were listed as "first courses" and would benefit from being shared and accompanied by, say, the glazed short ribs listed as a "second course". Birraria La Corte accepts reservations and those who fail to secure them will likely be seated in the stone-enclosed patio, open to the sky. It was from this location that I watched many diners settle into their pizza orders, as elevated an offering as the pastas. I think the optimal experience here would be to come with a group and advance reservations, and sample widely from the menu offerings. As a party of two we were unable to fulfill that mission, but if you're in Venice and looking for a menu that feels creative and different than most every place else, Birraria La Corte is a good choice. read more

We sat in a beautiful, outdoor courtyard with fans which helped with the heat wave Mediterranean was experiencing that week. Our server was so nice and funny. We found this Birraria or brewery on our walk back to the hotel. It is on a lovely piazza surrounded by apartment buildings with beautiful architecture. The restaurant has outdoor seating in better weather. The inside has several different rooms. It is a lively place. The espresso martini and Venetian spritz were very good. The house red was also good. The pizzas were both delicious. The pasta was also tasty. It was lightly sauced but had lots of flavor and nice pieces of crab. The desserts were delicious! The tiramisu was light and creamy with a nice coffee flavor. The semifreddo was yummy. The honey, orange and chocolate complemented each other well and the almonds added a nice crunch. The servers were nice, food was paced well and service was relaxed. I would definitely recommend! read more

When I tell you my husband and I ate a lot in Venice ... we ate SO MUCH. But out of everything we ate, he said this was his favorite place! Forewarning, you'll have to eat pizza with a fork and knife . Jokes aside, the pizza had a really nice oven fire crust. The dough was chewy and thin. The flavors we got were super interesting too. I wouldn't call this a classic Italian pizza, but it's Italian artisan modern pizza with unique flavors that blend well. They advertise it as personal pizzas, but they are pretty filling. If you don't eat a lot, you can get away with sharing a pizza. My husband and I were stuffed after. Pro tip, get the potatoes appetizer as well (especially if you love potatoes) It was so good and flavorful. What we ordered: THREE ARCHES (husband's rating 4.5/5, me: 3/5) : Fior di latte Fior d'Agerola, homemade marinated salmon, curly endive, dill crème fraîche. Had a strong dill flavor and very creamy. FRUTARIOL: (husband and mines rating: 4/5) Fior di latte "Fior d'Agerola", 24-month San Daniele raw ham, Apulian "Murgella" burrata, figs, lemon thyme. One of the most unique pastas I've had, combined with perhaps the best pizza I've had in Venice. This meal was incredible. Went twice in three days. - Spaghettoni pasta - perfect texture, light but addictive taste; it also just looks delightful with its vibrant green - pizza - it had burrata cheese on ham; but the true skill is how soft and perfect the dough and crust were; simply stunning. Good pizza in Venice is hard to come by, but it was such a treat to find the place! The restaurant is located in the Campo San Polo square. If you are coming from the main street with all the shopping, you'll find this pizzeria place located on the other side of the courtyard. If you are looking for some cheap eats, this is the place to go. Over 20 different pizzas to choose from ranging from €6.50 to €13. Before you sit, you have to know there is a 2.50 cover charge per person. A cover charge isn't uncommon in Venice, but 2.50 does seem to be a bit more than usual. The cheap prices and portions of the pizza definitely make up for the cover charge. One thing I learned about eating in Venice is that complimentary water doesn't exist, you have to buy it by the bottle. I ordered the Lavraneri pizza, which contains tomato, mozzarella, gorgonzola buffalo cheese, and speck. I personally feel the mozzarella cheese and gorgonzola buffalo cheese didn't mix well together, but that might be because I don't really like blue cheese. The speck tastes like prosciutto. Overall the pizza was enormous and definitely worth the €8.50 I spent. I just wish the crust was a little softer. White chocolate, nuts, chocolate sauce, chocolate powder all combined into a ice cream like texture, the semifreddo is delicious! I would highly recommend ordering it. My family of five was seated on the terrace at about 7:30pm the terrace was approximately half full. After about 15 minutes we placed our order. Soon afterwards a waiter we had not seen before showed up and proceeded to tell us that our table was reserved. He had no explanation why we were instructed to sit there and insisted we vacate the table. We asked were we should sit and he said inside and walked us to a completely empty room in the back. The person who pointed to the table for us to sit denied he did so, the girl waiting on us was clueless. We left and will never return. The best meal we had in Venice. The restaurant was recommended to us by a local. The warning was the food is good, but the service..not so much. I would like to go back to Venice just to eat here again. The service was somewhat slow, and English outside of the menu was limited, but it wasn't really that bad. This place is wonderful! If you don't visit this spot while in Venice you failed. Venice is a really tough city when it comes to dinning. So many awful tourist traps and restaurant employees hassling visitors to dine with them. La Corte has good service (we loved our server David) and delicious pasta, pizza and salads! We ended up eating there twice and would have gone a third time but we forced ourselves to try something new. The wine is great and the prices are low. Great atmosphere as well. This is one of those restaurants that you stumble upon in a square in Venice and think, is it a tourist trap or is it good simply because it's packed and the food looks good from walking by the tables. It was pure goodness and simple Italian dishes with fresh ingredients. We all shared the bruschetta, a pizza (see photo0 and buscatini pasta. Delicious pizza! My husband made us return a second time for the sea bass ravioli. Loved the ambiance and the warm and friendly service.

For some reason, on one of our nights in Venice, we decided we wanted pizza. I found a place that looked good online, but when we arrived it was incredibly small and playing very loud live music. So we had to find a backup plan, and luckily Birraria La Corte was right around the corner. It's a big place (so that was nice), and there was plenty of seating available for us. We decided to have a bottle of Amarone and share a starter of meats and split two pizzas. One pizza was a four cheese pizza and the other had pork and mushrooms. The food was pretty fantastic. The meats to start were some of the best we had in Italy. The pizzas were also really delicious. The service left a bit to be desired though. It was tough finding someone to come to the table. And the bottle of wine we ordered was corked, and the server insisted we wait five minutes just in case. And it was still corked. So we had them open up a second bottle and it was much better. He did apologize for it, but it probably shouldn't have happened. But don't let that discourage you from coming. The food is definitely worth a trip here. read more

I wish I had more time in Venice, but one of my best meals was here. The pizza was delicious, and the portion generous. A portion of ravioli was tasty. A tartuffo dessert was different than what I have had in NJ, but fine. There was a good selection of beer, as the name would imply, and a fairly good selection of wine by the glass or bottle. The staff were friendly and attentive, with a good command of english. The price was reasonable. The only problem I had, which is not their fault, is that eating outside was less enjoyable than it might have been because the locals were using the square as a dog run and a playground. So, there were lots of barking dogs and some kids screaming at the top of their lungs. That may have been because I was there early. Came here both due to geographical convenience to our hotel and some stellar reviews. While it wasn't a bad place, it definitely was a bit of a letdown. Our dinner wasn't especially bad; the problem is, it wasn't especially good. I had the meat lasagna - it was actually pretty tasty. Meaty, flavorful, it was a good entrée. Nothing to write home about, but nothing about which to complain, either. My wife got the spinach ravioli - it definitely sounded better than it tasted. What it came down to was that it was just bland. The ravioli was largely tasteless. So while it didn't offend the taste buds, it didn't really impress them, either. Service was friendly but clumsy. After a fairly long wait, the waiter took our order. Maybe 15 minutes later, when we were starting to wonder why we hadn't at least gotten our drinks yet, he came back to ask again what we had ordered, because he'd lost the paper. What? I can certainly handle a longer wait because it's a busy night, but waiting 15 minutes to tell us not only have you not entered our order, you don't know what it was? That's really not ok. Also, in the time after we placed our order, we saw another table seated, had their order taken, and their food arrive - all before our waiter even returned to tell us he didn't know what we'd ordered. Sure, he cracked some jokes here and there and was definitely acceptable on the personality front, at least, but service wasn't great. Maybe we should have gotten the pizza, as other reviews recommended. Maybe we should have come another time and experienced a different kind of service. Ultimately, we weren't impressed with our experienced here, and wouldn't really recommend it, unless you're next door and don't have better options. read more

This was a very enjoyable meal in Venice. The atmosphere is charming, and the service was good. There is a great number of pizzas to select from, as well as various other main meals. We ordered the caprese salad, a mixed green salad, and a salami pizza. Their pizza was quite delicious, as were both salads.
