My husband and I had dinner last night and it was our first time eating at Al Shish. First off, our waitress, Maddie was excellent. She was very pleasant and had a very genuine "serving" personality. We asked her for suggestions and knowing it was our first time there she suggested the Sampler Plate (2) to give us a taste of all they offer. DELICIOUS!!! We love to go here and usually go about once a week. We drive all the way from Grant to Madison for the food. They give you fresh pita bread with an amazing garlic spread. This small restaurant is fabulous! From the moment you walk in you are greeted by their friendly wait staff. They social distance their patrons in their dining room which has a nice ambience. And they also have curbside pick-up as well as a drive-thru window. Food was fabulous. We had the braised cauliflower as an appetizer, and lamb and chicken for our main courses which came with salad or soup and rice which was cooked perfectly. This place is hit or miss...a gamble... When you win, you win BIG! But, when you lose... you lose BIG... The toum (garlic sauce) is always delicious; it's great on the pita, and also great with meat, great with anything! The pita is yummy too, fresh and warm. I usually get the lamb or chicken shish kabob and it's usually delicious. When this restaurant first opened, several years ago, the service was great! I think that was because the owner was there, and he made sure service was top notch. But now, I've noticed that the service leaves a lot to be desired...a LOT! I didn't see the owner there the last few times I went. Even if there are only a few people there, for some reason it takes forever for someone to come talk to you. Then, when you order, cross your fingers that you get what you ordered...and that you haven't decided to leave before getting it because it's taking forever to get your food... I went a lot when they first opened because the food and the service was exceptional; now, I do not go into that restaurant because I started getting mad. I have just recently started ordering for delivery and have been happy with that. I don't get anything complicated, for reasons that others have described. I just get some pita wraps or schwarmas, and they're delicious! So, again...it's a gamble...but then again, since COVID, aren't many restaurants now a gamble? read more

Growing up in a town with a large Lebanese population I'm quite picky when it comes to Lebanese food. I was overjoyed to learn that the owners are actually from my home town. It was the taste of home I needed, the Tawook, garlic sauce (yum!!), rice, tabbouli, hummus, fresh pita and my favorite baklava fingers. Stopped in here for lunch while visiting Madison and had the best meal of 2021 so far and it will be hard to beat. The Chicken Shawarma was so flavorful and the Lamb Shawarma was amazing! The house dressing on the salads and the side of rice were also delicious. The freshly made pita was a wonderful surprise and will be the reason I wish I could come back over and over. The owner gave us yummy hot tea as we waited for our to go order and even gave us two more cups to go. Can't wait to be back in town to try more of the menu. Our friends all ordered the pita wraps and were raving about how good they were. We LOVED the bread with the noom as the starter - never had it before but it was so good. Really enjoyed this place, the fresh baked pita and amazing garlic dip alone is worth the trip. Lamb kabobs were succulent, kafta was juicy and flavorful, the almond rice I had as a side was delicious as well. They are new and clearly eager to please, service was attentive and cheerful, and the owner came out and brought us a delicious hot tea at the end of the meal. Came by for the first time for a late lunch yesterday, and wasn't really sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised to find a clean restaurant, friendly and attentive servers, and delicious food. The complimentary garlic dip was intense but terrific, and the freshly baked pita bread that came with it was amazing.
