Salad, had a whole piece of bell pepper and onion. Had to cut it up. Also had olives with pits...
    Jaymes C.

Don't even know where to start, this place was terrible. The gyro had one (1) thin sliver of gyro meat, packed with lettuce. Almost no flavor to the meat. The salad.... Who in their right mind sells a Greek salad with olives that have not been pitted. Bit into an olive to find a pit. A whole onion and bell pepper slice that I had to cut up myself. The place currently doesn't have air conditioning. Door was propped open, it was 89 degrees outside. The place itself is dirty, outdated, and a more or less just stuff everywhere. The service was good. The owner was nice. Didn't seem very interested in talking at all. But he did recommend the gyro.

This is a Huntsville staple for middle eastern / Greek food . I love this little restaurant and Mr Jamo is a very pleasant man who gives outstanding service

Chicken Shawarma with side order of Falafel.

First the food was pretty good. I tried the chicken shawarma. It was seasoned nicely, and dressed with pickles and onions. I also tried falafel. They were very good.Clearly not out of a box. They were served with a small but adequate portion of hummus. Also made on site. Jamo's Cafe, appears to have been here in the same spot since the 1980's, and the ambiance shows that. It's a small place but the seating is comfortable. The service was questionable, but it is what it is, to the extent that it was 5pm-ish. The proprietor's daughter was apparently "holding the fort down" and she clearly appeared to be somewhat out of her element. As she was totaling up my order I had to ask about a drink to go with my food. She wasn't unpleasant but she was not exactly customer friendly. This might be a fluke as they say. Before I say "don't bother", with Jamo's Cafe, I'll give it another try, say around lunchtime perhaps. As it stands I can say that the food I ordered wasn't epic, but it was good. 3 stars for now.

Knowing what to rate this place was pretty difficult. The quality of the food was good, but it wasn't somewhere you'd make an effort to go back. The price is very inexpensive making the cafe a great place to stop for a casual lunch. However, 2 major issues here. Their olives have pits in them, which is just a recipe for disaster. I discovered the first pitted olive as a garnish, which was fine. But my salad had pitted olives as well which is like a death trap for the teeth. Secondly, the layout of the parking lot is actually terrible, I wish there was more parking behind the restaurant. I tried their Greek salad, nothing special but not bad, and their hummus. The hummus was very good, but the pita was not as soft as expected and slightly chewy.

Shrimp, humus, fish and shrimp, rice, flat sandwich bread, salad an assorted olives peppers onions tomatoes.

Quality matches the price - super family friendly environment. I don't know if the guy who owns the place is named Jamos but he for sure spent some years somewhere learning to prepare dishes. Love love love this place. I want to diet when eating something like this.

First time eating here and I was very impressed. The establishment really never appealed to me from the outside but boy I have been missing out! First thing first, the Chai Tea here is amaaaaaazing! Smooth, creamy and tasty! We took some to go for the Christmas Parade and added some spiced rum to it. Try this and thank me later. WHOOOOMAGAWD Secondly, the lamb kabobs were delicious! They were cooked perfectly, tender and juicy. The plate was served with rice, salad, fruit, hummus and pita bread. Now, I wasn't a big fan of the pita bread. I prefer my pita bread soft and fluffy (like my mama's biscuits lol) and this pita bread was the opposite but it was tolerable. My bf ordered the Gyro Plate and his sides were pretty much the same except he had taziki sauce instead of hummus. The food was good and fresh! I will be back. :)

Plenty of outdoor (and indoor) seating!

It was pretty quiet (early on a Friday evening). I only saw one employee while I was there and she was very nice. She brought me a glass of water while I waited. The burrito was DELICIOUS. I added tofu to it, which probably wasn't necessary, but I love tofu. I guess I was a little disappointed they didn't really do anything to it. I should not have eaten the whole thing, but I couldn't stop. The chips and salsa were also really good. The chips were very crispy and the salsa was fresh. The prices are really reasonable too! I would go back if I visited again (and I don't think I'd say that about anywhere else I ate).

Just be prepared for a short walk up the back stairs or around the side to reach the entrance. Seating & Restroom: There's both indoor and outdoor seating. The restroom is gender inclusive and wheelchair accessible. Service: Over the past 10 years and many visits, including celebrating multiple birthdays here, service has sometimes felt a bit inattentive or stretched thin. That said, on my most recent solo Sunday brunch visit, the bartender/server was genuinely warm, friendly, and attentive, which made a noticeable difference in the overall experience. It was refreshing and their kind and caring energy was so appreciated. Prices: Prices are very reasonable for the generous portion sizes. Menu & Food: The menu covers a wide range of offerings, which is ambitious and gives plenty of options. I've returned several times to try something new, hoping to discover a standout dish. I haven't quite found anything to write home about yet as most dishes land in the "just okay" category for me. They're filling, but not especially bold, flavorful, or memorable. As someone who really enjoys vibrant spices and layered flavor, I keep hoping the next dish I try will shine, but everything I've had thus far tends to be a bit on the uninspired side. The pancakes have been the most reliable item over the years. They aren't over-the-top, but they're consistently good and comforting. The kids' stack is especially generous and more than enough for most adults. The only French toast option is peanut French toast; a classic version would be a nice addition for those with peanut allergies or folks just looking for regular French toast. On my latest visit, I ordered the migas, which come as four mini tacos with a small side salad. It was decent, though nothing particularly memorable. I ordered a side of hashed potatoes, which were a bit dry. I also ordered a side of the cheese grits, which were unfortunately the low point for me. They were thin and more brothy than creamy. It was a bit like eating nutritional yeast slop. As a Southerner who absolutely loves grits, I'm honestly hoping there may have been a mix-up that day. I'd hate for anyone unfamiliar with Southern cooking, or vegan grits, to think that's the standard, because they can be incredibly rich and satisfying when done well (Sevananda in ATL, for example, has amazing vegan cheese grits), but these were very disappointing. With a little more creativity in the kitchen and perhaps some bolder seasoning or new sauces, the menu could really shine. I truly hope Sluggo's continues to thrive and considers adding more explicitly organic menu options. Just a bit more flavor and flair could really make it a standout.

A bit pricey for some things, but they have some great meat replacement and specialty items. And everything is vegetarian. Lots of vegan options too. The bistro however was disappointing. Service is super slow. I stood around for ten minutes under the "order here" sign with the two bistro workers actively ignoring me before one of the cashiers told me I had to order with her. It was then another 15+ minutes for them to take a pre-made wrapped sandwich out of the fridge, stick it in the toaster, and pour me a cup of soup. I came at an off time and there was no line either. The soup was really good. The sandwich however was not. I got a chicken pesto sandwich which I thought would be a "chicken" cutlet or slices with pesto and other toppings. They used their chicken salad as the chicken in the sandwich. I guess I should have asked first, but I never thought that is what they would use. It didn't taste like pesto at all. It just tasted overwhelmingly of mayo and vegan or not, I hate mayo. I came back and got a smoothie. It was overly sweet and tasted like stevia. The pizza looked good so I may be back to try that and pick up more stuff at the market. They do have a fabulous outdoor seating area with a pavilion and fountain.

I got the grain and berry, which had bananas, blueberries, and strawberries on a bed of granola and acai, with peanut butter, Nutella, and coconut flakes. It was packaged and ready to go in a reasonable amount of time. Compared to other places, I did think the price was a bit high. I enjoyed my fruit bowl when I ate it for dinner a little bit later. The acai wasn't overly sweet and the ratio of granola to fruit was pretty perfect. I was missing the coconut flakes - idk if they didn't put them on or if I just never detected them. The fruit ratio was also a little off in my opinion -- only a few diced up pieces of strawberries, a handful of blueberries, and then a LOT of sliced bananas. Lastly, I really wish the peanut butter and Nutella had been drizzled on top. At first I thought I didn't get any at all, but I eventually realized it was in a layer below the fruit and above the granola. This might've been done to preserve the appearance of the bowl/lid since I got it to go, but I feel the flavors got a little lost when I ate it. Overall, these are minor nitpicks/personal preference so not a huge deal. I could easily see myself returning for another bowl in the future. Thanks, Grain and Berry!
