I was looking for Italian food and landed on Mazzara. I didn't expect it would be so classy. Playing old classics brings a nice ambiance to dinner or lunch. Situated in an old house the dining is separated into different rooms. The service was attentive and we were made to feel very comfortable. I figured the Alfredo pasta would be excellent since it was the most expensive pasta on the menu. Surely it was worth the price. Cheesy and creamy, it was among the best Alfredo I've had. We went out to Mazzara's Friday to celebrate Dave's birthday early with friends. We arrived on time and were welcomed and taken to our table right away. The restaurant was buzzing and busy. We ordered calamari and meatballs for our appetizers. Our waitress brought both appetizers out after delivering Italian wine flights and red wine flights. The meatballs were in marinara sauce and a bit chewy. 4/5 The calamari was served with mayo based spicy aioli. They were tender, crispy, and delicious. We asked for marinara as a dipping sauce. 5/5 What we ordered: Sun-dried tomato focaccia. The serving for 4 was extremely small. Taste was nothing special. 3/5 Rigatoni pasta and guanciali. Served in a tomato cream sauce this dish was delicious and dreamy! 5/5 Pacceri pasta with braised beef osso bucca was very good. Tasted like pot roast with pasta. 4/5 Chicken Marsala with brussels sprouts and portobello mushrooms. The sauce was thin and the chicken breast was not tender. The brussels sprouts didn't hit the taste profile because they were boiled. 2/5 Grilled Atlantic Salmon was very good. The fish was not overcooked. We asked that the chef please not overcook the salmon. 5/5 Mussels and clams cioppino was spicy and good. I got this to go due to the spices. 4/5 Our waitress was fantastic. I failed to ask her name. Reviews were great so had to go. Jennifer was my server and she opened with a huge smile and was super friendly and attentive. Walked me through the menu. Nice setting and cute spot that was a repurposed Victorian style home. Super cool with great mood music in background. Started with olive and parmesan focaccia with a cesar salad. The focaccia was so good. It was warm, crisp exterior and nice soft and moist in the middle. The olive and parmesan paired very well. Excellent Cesar. The romaine was slightly roasted. All the toppings were moderate and all the moderation resulted in a great combination. The mix of the tomatoes, cucumber, parmesan chip, anchovies and cesar dressing combined perfectly. Nice job. Entree was the ricotta gnocchi. Freshly made, asparagus, tomatoes, mushrooms and spinach and shrimp swimming in a yummy white wine butter sauce. It come topping with fresh parmesan. Excellent service. Our server recommended the Carmela's meatballs as an appetizer so we went ahead and ordered that. There is no complimentary bread but the appetizer did come with a few pieces of focaccia. The meatballs were delicious! My only complaint is that it only came with 4 small meatballs. I got the Pacherri pasta which was a wide noodle and braised beef. The sauce is made from the beef as well as olive oil and Parmesan. I think I would've preferred a more flavorful sauce and can't say I'd recommend this particular dish to friends but the pasta was still enjoyed. My boyfriend got the pumpkin ravioli, which was very good. Would recommend. There are so many delicious sounding menu options and we're excited to come back and try some of the other features ! read more

ABSOLUTELY one of the best experiences I've had at a restaurant. First of all, they were busy so make sure you book a reservation! My friend and I were lucky enough to score a bar top as a walk in. Our bartender, Pita (I hope I spelled that right) was such a joy. It was my first time so I told her to just surprise me the entire time. She gave me a wine spritzer to start off the night, recommended the mozzarella and meatball appetizer. She then told me that the veal Parmesan was to die for so naturally I got that AND the tiramisu...holy moly!!! Melted right in my mouth. There were a bunch of regulars there which means they have really mastered their craft of customer service and experience! Enjoyed a YELLOWFIN TUNA CARPACCIO appetizer. Caesar salad. Interesting in that they appeared to have grilled the lettuce. The dressing was good. The anchovies were white and whole. Shrimp Scampi appetizer was good. (I got charged for the scampi dinner but it was good so I didn't want to make it an issue. ) Neat old house. We've never had a bad meal here, and tonight also did not disappoint. Elijah, our server, could not have been better. He even brought us complimentary champagne since it was better half's birthday! I don't drink but it was such a delightful touch. We started with mussels and their legendary focaccia, both of which were stellar. I appreciated the plating and attention to service. They even cleaned off our tablecloth (the mussels got a little messy, haha). I got the eggplant parmesan (divine, with housemade pasta) and better half got shrimp scamp (delightful). I thought both dishes could have used a little more salt, but I'm not going to complain about the skills of the chefs here. As always, it was a little loud but you're really paying for the food here. They truly want you to have a great experience and it shows. Highly recommended without reservations. Quite possibly the best restaurant in Huntsville with the running being between it and Domaine South. read more

Experienced a great dinner dining experience at Mazzara's. The location is an unassuming home in downtown Huntsville. I was greeted immediately as I walked in. The service was great, and our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable. I ordered a glass of pinot gris, lemon ricotta ravioli, and the cannolis for dessert. The ravioli was so light and flavorful and I would definitely recommend it! The cannolis were ok, but I would try a different dessert next time. This was one of my favorite restaurants in Huntsville until today. Meatball appetizer was very tasty, but the focaccia served with it was inedible (slightly burnt and tasteless). My husband was then served an entree that was completely different from what he had ordered. Our server acknowledged the kitchen's mistake and offered to prepare what he had actually ordered, but he opted to accept what they had already brought since my meal had already been served and would have been cold by the time his correct entree was prepared and served. We received a nice apology but that's all. There was no effort to "make it right" by offering any kind of price concession. (We had two appetizers, two glasses of premium wine, and two entrees, so there was plenty of room for a courtesy price adjustment.) Disappointing. read more

A disappointing evening. We had a party of 8 for a birthday and went back to Mazzara's having had a good experience previously. The waitress were good, but the kitchen service was a mess. We started with a $32 charcuterie board, which was a selection of cheeses, meat and pickles - presentation was lacking here, but the cheeses etc very tasty. At a good restaurant I kind of expect it not to look like they just peels the plastic off a tray and flipped it over onto a small chopping board. The $8 olives were from a $1 can - give those a miss. There were clearly problems with the kitchen service. We received half of the entrees, and waited at least 30mins for the other 4 meals. Not acceptable in a good restaurant. Everyone can have a bad night, but even the 4 entrees that initially came out were lukewarm. The food was tasty (I enjoyed the salmon) despite not being hot. That's as far as any praise goes for that. The waitress was very attentive, and could not apologize enough for the sh*tshow we were paying for. The manager did pay a brief visit, but was less convincing with his apology. They did in the end comp the desserts, but frankly it was the cold entrees that should have been. Doubtful to return - you don't get a second chance of messing up a $600 meal. read more

The building is intriguing -- and antique house turned restaurant, there is precise detail put into the atmosphere of the house (if you look closely on your visit, you mind find a rabbi mouse close by!). We had to wait a few extra minutes, but the host and hostess were apologetic and even gave us each a glass of sparkling for our wait! All of our meals were delicious. Looking at the spaghetti my colleague ordered made me wish I had went with it, as it's pasta was made in-house, while the rigatoni pasta is not. Our Server, Darby, was very welcoming & helpful in suggesting another dish, the Rigatoni & Chicken, since the Spaghetti & Meatballs (that I had read reviews about it really good) wasn't available. It was saucy & well seasoned, pasta was cooked perfectly. My daughter had the lasagna, it was saucy & well seasoned as well. The Baby Arugula & Radicchio Salad was delicious too. The vinaigrette on the salad, was so tasty, I wish I could have the recipe or a bottle of it. The focaccia with Sun-Dried Tomatoes & Garlic was fresh & flavorful. Lastly, the Chocolate Ganache Brownie lived up to the reviews. Delicious, delicious, delicious. I brought my daughter here today for her 22nd birthday & we will definitely be back! This place was such a surprise. I didn't expect what I experienced. The staff were attentive without being annoying, and the food was fantastic. So many restaurants in Huntsville are mediocre at best. Mazzara's definitely makes everything in-house, and with a lot of forethought. You know how little things can really make or break an experience? I'll start with the bad. This was the first time any of us (party of 3) had dined here. We were seated in the bar area, where it was loud and cold. I had to wear my friend's jacket over my own just to stop shivering. Our waitress was...borderline mean. All three of us were trying to be very understanding because it seemed busy and she seemed to be moving between the bar area and the other dining areas, but her attitude and responsiveness just kept getting worse. We wanted to try the wine, but weren't really sure where to start as we don't know much about Italian wines. I told her that, and asked for recommendations and she said something along the lines of "they're all good", so I probed a little further with a "this is what I typically drink, can you give me any recommendations?" and she mumbled something about a red from Africa and then said she would come back. That wasn't helpful. When she returned, we all ordered the wine flight option, and put in an order for the meatball appetizer. It took a surprisingly long time to get our wines - we actually received and had eaten a lot of the appetizer first. And the total bummer about the flights were that they were delivered without any explanation. Normally when you get a flight, they're either numbered or the staff tells you how they're on there in comparison to the way they're identified on the menu. We spent the entire time tasting and trying to figure out what was what - kind of took away from the experience a little bit. The food itself was actually quite good. Very tasty, fresh, and flavorful. One person had the baked rigatoni, one had the three cheese pumpkin agnolotti, and the last had the 8 oz steak. It was very filling, but I still had to get dessert, and opted for the cannolis which was good. Not my favorite, but I'm glad I tried it. The final bill didn't feel too expensive, just wish the service and seating would've been better - it was enough that I'll question returning, unfortunately. read more

My husband and I came here for a date night and were not disappointed!! We made a reservation beforehand and were seated promptly upon arrival. The atmosphere was cozy and relaxing. We started with the meatball appetizer. This was absolutely delicious. The only downfall was the portion size. I could've eaten so much more of this dish! The sauce was delicious, and we loved the bread for dipping. The meatballs themselves were dense but not dry. I would get this again. We then got the Caesar salad. This was very unique. I wouldn't say it is the best Caesar salad I've ever had, but I did thoroughly enjoy it! It comes out with huge pieces of lettuce, so be prepared to chop it up at the table. For the entree, we shared the shrimp scampi over pasta. It was sooo good. This was a lot smaller than we expected, so we probably could've gotten two separate orders. The sauce was light yet creamy, and I loved the amount of garlic in it. The shrimp were plump and perfectly cooked. We also each had a glass of wine, and their selection was great!
