I really needed to stretch out and move around. Couldn't really rest well after two hours. I woke up because it was cold many times so I ran the engine a few times to warm up. And noticed the fog was starting to flurry. And it was on the edge of 31°. That was all the incentive I needed to get back on the road. I drove two more hours where it was off the mountain area and 40°, warmer to the south. The rest area was clean and I always try to use them even without the pit stop just to get out and stretch using the car curb for leg/calf stretches and get some water. 37/2024

Parked in the last space of the lot, I was able to open the window that faced the highway so it was a bit of privacy. Between that and the roof vent, a comfortable night at a high point. Comfy! Yes, this rest area allows overnight parking. Not camping, parking. You're here to rest and get some sleep before continuing onwards so do that. Other than a few trucks idling in the lot and a couple who seem to think it's fair to use their engine to break, it was a quiet night. In the morning, a stretch and a visit to the clean restroom and then onwards. Thanks, Grundy County and TDOT! [Review 20208 overall - 470 in Tennessee - 1185 of 2023.]

The restrooms were very clean - with touch-less faucets, and manually operated soap dispensers and you have a better chance of seeing GOD than you do getting water at a temperature better than lukewarm, thankfully we all carry sanitizer with us nowadays. I didn't not see any security or custodians working, but I wasn't scared or disgusted, this rest area is maintained responsibly. I'm sure they were on a break or something, yeah I'm sure that was the case. It was very early morning when I stopped in and found no humans present on the grounds and the multiple vehicles parked across the lot seemed to be the perfect venue for getting a few winks. It's a peaceful place at this hour and I suspect most are taking cat naps before pressing on to their destinations. I found myself yawning as well but not to the point I required an extended break. These rest areas serves the public well and go by different names in different parts of the country some like this one are named Rest Areas others are referred to as Rest Stops, Safety Service Areas and a multitude of other names, no matter what you call them they serve a purpose and probably prevent accidents on the interstates as well as inside the vehicle if you know what I mean...

It has an interesting loop design so you will pass it and then turn back to backtrack to the facility. The car parking is closest to the building the the truck and trailer parking is the next parking lot over and farther away from the building. There is plenty of parking for both trucks and cars. There are several buildings and a very nice memorial to the the AMVETS. The welcome center is the largest structure on the site and has a stone facade and several large glass doors. It looks welcoming and has a large open room with a vaulted ceiling, wood paneling and tile floors. There is a lot of literature for the various state sights along with some history and a nice sitting area inside for those that just want to take a break. The building, grounds and restrooms were all clean and well kept. I would definitely recommend this to people travelling and need a rest or bathroom break along their route or just want to pick up some information on sights that they can see while visiting the state's 3 major regions.

The bathrooms and water fountains you likely come for are ample in scope and in good working order. You'll also be bombarded with twangy music and an enormous amount of pro-Tennessee propaganda. And having been away from the state for a bit, I am reminded that there are actually quite a few nice tourist destinations, more than you'd think if you're not from around here. The comparison to nearby states is quite telling; you won't find anything like this in Kentucky, and Alabama and Mississippi's rest stops tend to be utilitarian at best. In Georgia and South Carolina, you'll struggle to find anywhere to pull over, while western North Carolina tends to have a lot of spots to pull a car over and look but no facilities quite like these. It's also handy that this is a simple loop that gets you off of and back onto the highway momentarily. If you're wondering where to pull over, this is probably the right decision.

The footprint of this store is smaller and outdated compared to some other QT's, but they still offer all the standards and classics that you come to expect at a QT including the QT Kitchen, pizza by the slice, hot roller stations and self-serve coffee, tea and drinks. This QT is a convenient stop when I am on the road to and from Nashville from Atlanta. Its either one of my last stops or first, depending on the direction I am traveling. Service is hit and miss here. I have hit this location to and from on one trip and had completely different experiences. Never terrible, just noticeable. Overall, I enjoy QT's. Usually, at least for me, my decision upon which brand to use depends solely upon what lays inside the convenience store of that gas station. When in northern Georgia, I find myself seeking out QT gas stations when my car is telling me that it is time to fill up. The reason is, as stated before, what lays beyond the doors to the store within. Not only are there surprisingly good hot dogs and toppings on rollers, but a food counter, a long row of coffee, iced tea, and soda selections, as well as the usual gas station offerings. Service is also obviously a corporate focus, you are created upon entry and the crew works diligently to meet the customer's needs, certainly a challenge. I recommend finding one if you are in Georgia. I am confident that you will seek them out time and time again when in their area.
