Aladdin's is a great, casual lunch spot in downtown Lansing, whether you want to eat in or take it to-go. It's a little dark inside, but that's offset by how warm the people are. My first time there, a woman was on the fence between two items so the friendly man working the counter said he could do half/half, all for the same price. I really appreciate that, and kind of wish I'd done that, since there are so many yummy-sounding things I want to try out. So far, I've had a lamb kabob over rice and the meat kibbee sandwich on two separate lunch occasions. I got hummus as my side, which is wonderful because they basically let you have unlimited pita. It's a little dangerous, since I definitely don't need that many carbs, but it's free and right there in a basket for the taking, individually plastic-wrapped. I love it. Their hummus is solid. The over rice options are definitely heavier than the sandwiches, but I think flavorwise, I liked the meat kibbee a little more. Kibbee is made of bulgur, minced onions, and finely ground meat with Middle Eastern spices. I think this was ground beef, but I can't remember. I'm definitely glad I added this to my lunch rotation, and will be back to try the rest of their menu. My coworkers also got their lunch here and were happy with what they got. Aladdin's express location is a personal lunch time favorite. I typically call it in and they often deliver it to my office without hesitation! I often get the fattoush with chicken and what impressed me original was that I could request no tomatoes on my salad. This may sound odd however most middle eastern restaurants make fattoush salads by the sheet pan because it's a hot item and you can't make substitutions. I got the Schwarma wrap with the house salad. It was super good. They put crispy pieces of pita in the wrap which was a great texture. Everything was delicious and I will be back on lunch any time I can but there was a lot of garlic either in the wrap or the salad dressing and I had that taste for the rest of the day. Which I love garlic but it is not the most pleasant thing while at work. But I can't wait to try the grape leaves and hummus and all the other things on the menu that sound delicious. Had a staff luncheon here. The food was fresh, perfectly seasoned, and didn't take long to order. I had the Aladdin platter, which came with a soft drink. The portion was enough for 2-3 meals, and did not take long to be prepared. The staff was friendly and the cook went out his was to ask me how my days was while fulfilling orders. A very dependable lunch spot in downtown Lansing for freshly made, wallet friendly Mediterranean food. The jovial and generous staff and the huuuuuge portions don't hurt either! They have lunch specials with rice, a salad/soup, meat/veggies, hummus, and a fountain drink that cost under $10. The food can be be a tad too heavy for lunch, so I prefer to split up my portion and save some for later. Their salad are so fresh, and are a perfect companion to the heavier meat dishes. I typically get the mujaddara (rice and lentil pilaf), with fattoush and chicken shawarma, and always opt for a veggie stew when available, because the veggie stews are so flavorful and filling! They have an open kitchen, so you can chat with the staff and see your dishes being made fresh, to order. This place gets really crowded around lunch time, so come a little before 12, or after 1:30 to reduce the wait. They apparently also have a loyalty program but I asked for the card a number of times, and was told that it was unavailable at the moment. However, the staff gave me a discount in lieu of the loyalty card a couple of times. One suggestion I have for the owners would be to stop using styrofoam plates and plastic spoons and reduce their environmental footprint. That way, we can all get our lunchtime fix of Middle Eastern food, and be kind to the planet as well! read more

Let me start by saying that I am very picky when it comes to gyros. I am new to the area and there is a place back home I frequented that no other gyros have ever measured up to. I went to Aladdin's with low expectations. That being said, Aladdin's actually topped them! This was the best gyro I have ever had, hand's down. I work downtown so I walked in at lunchtime. I was so impressed with the service too. Fast and friendly. The gyro comes with a soup or salad and since they found out I was a new customer they gave me both at no extra charge! Way more food than I can eat but it was cool of them to do. They are Mediterranean/middle-eastern folks who run the place so you know you're getting authentic. I know this may be a silly thing to get excited about but the pita the gyro was on was grilled and that seemed like a nice touch. It really did make the gyro better! read more

Nicely decorated restaurant, the indoor waterfall is a nice touch. I ordered lamb kabob over rice and a surfing dude smoothie... or so I thought. I've been craving lamb all day which brought me to this restaurant, but when I received my dish, I realized it was chicken a bite in. When I expressed my concern, the girl at the cashier told me I had ordered chicken, and said it was too late for me to change it. Yet a lady came in while I was waiting for food returning her food, because a mixup as well. Must happen often. I ate all of my food anyways, but was turned off by the customer service. Tough and chewy, too much inedible grisly lines throughout. Only about half of it was edible. However. I come from the West Coast, so in reality we don't have as much Middle Eastern food options like here in the East. Which is a pity, because it's quite delicious, and Aladdin's is a great primer. I have stopped pretty consistently at least once or twice a month, mainly for the shwarma, but also their various spicy meats and pita bread. Love their rice and salads too. By far the best middle eastern restaurant in downtown Lansing. The staff is friendly and always remembers a face. I don't venture too far on the menu because I'm one of these people that if I discover something I like, I stick with it. The chicken schawarma salad or chicken and rice are always my go to dishes. This is my go-to in downtown Lansing any time I don't bring my own lunch. Everything I have had has been very good, including the chicken shawarma plate, chicken/beef shawarma/falafel sandwiches, baba ghanoush, lentil soup, hummous, etc. The prices are extremely reasonable (I rarely spend more than $7 and am more than satisfied with the sandwich/side combo), the service is excellent, (the line can get long around rush hour, but it moves very quickly) and the workers are always very friendly. Any time someone asks for lunch suggestions in downtown Lansing, this is the first place I mention - and as I said, one of the only places I go myself. The only downside for me is that they aren't open for dinner or at all on the weekends - it would be an amazing out-of-work option for those of us who live in the downtown area. read more

This place is great only because it has no competitors anywhere near it. They could literally get away with serving terrible Middle Eastern- Mediterranean food and people would still go here because it's different from the usual sandwich shops and major national chains that line the downtown area of Lansing. That being said, I've much had better Mediterranean food in other parts of central Michigan, and I don't think the food here is any special. Ya....thanks a lot ....Worst case of food poisoning ever!!!!!!! It hit me hard within an hour. STAY AWAY FROM THE GRAPE LEAVES WITH MEAT if possible stay away from the place entirely...I know I will. I'll never get the last 2 days of gut wrenching pain back. And your "finely ground" meat shouldn't look like blood clots in rice. I knew I shouldn't have finished it, but I asked the clerk and he reassured me that it was right...possibly because I am a Caucasian male? I'll leave that one out for the" jury" to decide.
