It's decent, American-style Arabic food. It's a bit better than Pita Way (more flavorful). But nothing like you will find in Arab shops across Europe or the Middle East. Fall is a hectic time in the Beverly household. Hot on the heels of what felt like the fastest summer of all time, the chaos that is melding work, school, sports, and community schedules is live and direct. With four girls all at different stages of life, my much better half and I are typically frenetic throughout the week and certainly don't slow down on the weekends. We also have an additional challenge of working on MSU's campus and living on the westside- which, I'm sure I don't have to tell any of our readers, has been so much fun with construction. Some days, I crisscross the city six different times with meetings, practices, games, school fun nights, and family obligations. All of this means, that time for cooking at home can be limited and the energy to do so is even less. Even when I have my act together enough to make multiple meals ahead on a Sunday, the luxury of even thirty additional minutes at home and not warming a meal for starving adolescents seems sublime. We are often guilty of choosing the quicker option of dining out/take out, which brings on transactional costs in health and quality. So where does one find quick, healthier food options? Enter Middle Eats, the Warren, MI- based food chain that specializes in Mediterranean food which opened in Frandor in August of 2024. A cousin of chicken hot spot, Wing Snob, the endeavor aims to be fast, fresh, and healthy with its combination of bowls, wraps, and salads. They also strive to be convenient by offering a drive-thru option and online ordering to expedite their service. The full menu is customizable much like national branded fast Mexican assembly line chains, but absent the ability to watch your food as its prepared. What's Good The Spicy Chicken Shawarma Wrap ($8.99) was stout. Packed with shredded chicken that was tender and flavorful, pita chips, lettuce, grilled onions (optional, $.99), pickles, garlic spread, and spicy Dillio sauce. Dillio sauce is a yogurt-based dressing with garlic, shallots, lemon juice, and dill. The sauce was yummy but not overpowering nor overly fiery. A reasonably priced handheld that is big on yum and fills the hunger pangs. Not as healthy, but also high on the tasty factor are the Loaded Shawarma Fries ($11.99). I ordered them with steak ($2.00) and I was not happy I did. Thick cut, carnival style fries are topped with meat, feta cheese, diced onions, jalapeños, tomato (none for me thanks), and spicy Dillio sauce. This dish was large enough to share amongst the family, and we had leftovers. The added bonus was the pita bread on the bottom that soaks up all the delicious drippings. What's Really Good Middle Eats will be a go-to at our house for years to come because of their bowls. Whether you choose rice or lettuce as a foundation, you can load up the rest of the bowl with plenty of protein and veggies from a wide variety. My wife ordered the Falafel Bowl ($12.99) which a strong choice for vegetarians. Crisp, lightly fried falafel (deep fried balls of ground chickpeas and herbs) are joined by your choice of hummus and/or garlic spread, regular or spicy Dillio sauce, and then lettuce, feta, onions, rice, pickles, and tomatoes. The falafel was satisfying in both the exterior crunch and the warm and fluffy interior. The herbaceous flavors melded well with the hummus and veggies. Additional upcharges include cucumber, eggplant, or grilled peppers. On a previous lunch visit with a colleague, I ran into a high school friend who was there with her daughter who didn't have school that day. She revealed that Middle Eats has become their restaurant of choice for Mediterranean fare because of the convenience and value. My teammate and I both ordered bowls, him the Chicken Shawarma ($12.99) and I the Surf & Turf ($21.33). Both of us were satisfied and with the heaping mounds of meat and veggies and the accompanying sauces. Best Bite A special nod this month goes to the Fire Grilled Shrimp ($6.99/Skewer). Plump and juicy with just a touch of kick, but a ton of flavor, these crustaceans rival many of the top seafood and steakhouses in the area. Added to a salad or bowl and they are incredible, but also divine on their own atop a bed of rice. I look forward to finding time to enjoy Middle Eats Fire Grilled Shrimp in new ways including in wraps or on loaded fries. read more

Stopped in for lunch on an early summer Saturday, and had the place to myself for the most part. If business was slow, it couldn't have been because of the food. I ordered the chicken shawarma salad, and when it came I wondered if they had forgetten the salad...all I could see was chicken (see photo)! Yes, there was indeed some greenery under it, and everythign in the bowl was delicious. Honestly, I'd have been satisfied with half as much meat, but it was so good I had no problem scarfing it all down. The greens were fresh and crisp. The dressing was the one slightly off note--it was sort of like an Italian dressing, but earthier and much sweeter, with the look and consistency of chicken gravy. It wasn't bad, but I could have done without the sweetness. A basic lemon vinaigrette or Greek dressing would have rocked on this. Still one of the better road lunches I've had in a while read more

This dish was amazing. The falafel was delicious and not dry at all which was great. I went light on the sauces, and it was perfect for me. It arrived fast, within 30 minutes or so. Today I came to Middle Eats for their grand opening and my expectations were beat. The place was adorable, the staff were super friendly, the food was incredible, and I can't wait to try more on their menu! The bowls were $5 for their opening day and the portions were great! There's not much I would change about this place other than make the pita chips have salt. But they are still tasty regardless. Got both hummus and garlic sauce because yes please. Place was clean, well put together. So good, will return. Location is awful, they should gather their shop and put it across the street in the big plaza. It's in a little plaza, after the strip plaza with Dunkin' Donuts which is after Walgreens (but uses the same entrance). The next entrance is a second entrance for the Dunkin' Donuts plaza and only then after that one is the Middle Eats plaza, shared with the quality inn if I'm not mistaken. There is seating inside, table and chairs. Chairs are maybe a bit small if you got a big bum/large person. Toilets are solo rooms, v clean. Not locked, no permission to use the bathroom required, which for many of us is VERY important. read more

Middle Eats came to my gym as a catering event, and I have never had a tastier bowl in my life. The best healthy treat after my workout, served by the kindest staff. The chicken tasted high quality, and good meat is a such a core part of restaurants. They workers encouraged me to try their favorites- I would have never put hummus, garlic, pickles, or sauces in my bowl, but they ended up making for the best bowl ever. This has become one of my favorite lunch spots during my busy workweek. Portions are HUGE, like definitely 2 meals or more worth of food. Quality is excellent - fresh and savory flavors and choices. The spicy dillio sauce gives me life! Parking is pretty awful here on the downside but I suspect it is because this is a popular choice during lunch and dinner hours. We ordered Chicken Shawarma bowls on the kiosk.. It is a huge bowl with lots of chicken and rice and other items. We ordered them with the Dillo sauce which is just right for us.
