Vegetarian Grape Leaves are very good - I like better than meat
    Chris M.

When I come home to EL for a visit, the Jerusalem Bakery has become one of my favorite go-to places. This unique gem on Michigan Ave has some really quality fresh cuisine. Everything I've tried here has been spectacular - - - The Garlic Hummus just pure awesomeness. It's really smooth and creamy and has the right amount of spices and tahini. Beats any hummus I've had in the area. Puts the packaged crap I got from Meijer to shame. - Oh my - the Samosas / Meat Pies are just superb! Beef, Chicken, and Vegetarian are all very good. The Veggie if filled with potato and some curry spices, the beef and chicken are my favorites - great snack on the go. - Spinach Pie is fabulous - the dough is tasty and soft, the spinach filling has a lemon-like flavoring that's really refreshing. I dip this in the garlic hummus - SO GOOD! I also really like their fattoush salad - very fresh and healthy. Mom loved it too. - Hold on there - - I'm not done yet - - the Vegetarian Grape Leaves are also awesome, the primary filler is rice and it's just really quality good. I got the Meat ones and they were good, but Veggie is better. And I also caught them on a day they were just finished baking their cheese bread - OMG! Spicy and non-spicy cheese on flatbread coming out of their oven - - so blessed flavorful and tasty good! You can't have just one - seriously - get a bunch and warm them up later or dip it into some hummus. They also make fresh bread daily, and it's better than the pita bread you buy at the store, it's better than the pita bread they sell from another vendor, and I think it's the same type of bread that's used for their Spinach pies. Very soft and quality good. I've had their baba ganoush on a prior visit and was very happy with that too, but I can only eat so much w/in the few days I'm there so I gotta be careful otherwise I'd have to buy an additional plane seat on the flight back to Austin - - that's how good their food is. Not to mention as well the people here are very nice, personable, and eager to please. We have some places like this in Austin, but nothing really comes close to be honest when it comes to the quality and offerings. I need to try their shawarma and falafel when I come back.

    $2 per each roll. Seriously?!

I got the chicken Shawarma combo as well as the beef Shawarma. Both were really good. But I agree with another reviewer, it's odd the chicken was seasoned with curry. I'm docking 2 stars because I am just extremely shocked at the pricing on some of the items. Their menu had grape leaves listed (plural) for $2, I only got one grape leaf roll? Same thing with the cabbage rolls. Listed in plural for $2. I only got one roll. They're each super slim. Check the pic I took. I called to see if there was a mistake, do you really charge $2 per one roll? Yep! How do they get away with that?

Thank you for the delicious food! Sweet family! This would be great for takeout, catering, etc. Everything was fantastic!

My brother: I live by a really good Jewish bakery. Me: Oh yeah? My brother: Yeah. Me: What do you get to eat there? My brother: Oh, I've never been there. It is preposterous to me, to live by a "good" eatery and not go there! I made a point of stopping in when I visited him. I had a falafel sandwich (wrap) and it was really good. Ingredients were fresh and it was rather large for $3.50. They had a little area to dine-in and one table setup outside. And just because it is Jerusalem Bakery doesn't necessarily mean the owners are Jewish, just to clear things up. I wish I was eating their falafel sandwich right now! *pictures

The baba ganoush was amazing. But it cost $3.99 for a half pound. Hummus was good, but nothing to write home about. Tabbouli was good but a little soggy. Both the hummus and tabbouli were $2.99 for a half poind. Also got a huge bag of fresh pita chips for $4.99 which was totally worth it. I got a veggie samosa for $1.49 and it was delicious. Overall, everything tasted great, bit was a little bit expensive for my grad-student tastes. It definitely has a family-owned business thing going on which I love. I definitely will be a repeat customer on occasion.

A great little spot. They definitely seem to know their customers and have a good reputation in the Lansing community. Unfortunately, I found the store layout left a lot to be desired... If you didn't know what you were looking for and if they carried it, you'd spend a lot of time scanning the shelves that line the establishment. I found my pita and hummus without too much issue, but I looped the store another two times trying to see if they had anything else that might suit my fancy. I didn't see a well displayed menu of their hot food items (which they seem to have, I think?). A local came in and asked for something which I didn't see advertised anywhere and they seemed to be retrieving it from the back, which makes me think there is more to this store than what meets the eye. The quality of the hummus and pita were great! Apparently a cousin of mine has asked them to add a spice to their hummus before and the addition got rave reviews as well. I'd definitely come back, but there is still room for improvement here.

Huge portions of curry flavored chicken shawarma. Pretty bizzare tasting.

I enjoyed it. Not the best place to hang out but the food is very tasty. I liked the cheese pie and the samosas were cold.

I had to look this place up online because I didn't remember seeing it the last time Nate and I…read morewere in East Lansing. Apparently it's owned by the guys who own Lou & Harry's, and it opened in 2021. I guess I must have passed by without noticing it. I'm glad we stopped in because the food was really good. The menu specializes in cheesesteak hoagies and burgers, so I was excited to try a cheesesteak as we don't have a ton of options for them in Grand Rapids. We got the pazzo: Shaved ribeye steak, grilled onion, banana pepper, Jalapeno pepperjack cheese, pepperoni, and ranch marinara. You can upgrade to a combo which comes with fries and a drink, which we did. We got the cajun fries, but you can get waffle fries, ranch fries, or cheese fries. Our food was ready really quickly and it was super hot and fresh. The sandwich was big enough to split for a decent sized meal. There was quite a bit of meat and all the toppings worked well together. It was definitely greasy and pretty messy, and really salty - but I liked it. It's not something I could order regularly, but it was so tasty. The fries were fresh, thin cut, and the cajun seasoning was also really salty. If you're sensitive to salt - maybe avoid this spot. The bread of the sandwich got a little soggy, but it wasn't completely falling apart, which was good. This place is open late on the weekends and would be great for intoxicated or hungover college kids. They were doing quite a few Grubhub orders while we were there - I don't think I'd recommend this as delivery food as the sandwiches probably get pretty soggy if left to sit for too long. I'd come back and try more of the sandwiches.
