I've been coming to this shop for months at least once a week. his business is shutting down and he listed a 20 percent discount for anything over 100 dollars. he won't honor it. he already over charges charges the products. but he will try and scam you. he's done it to me three times now. the first time I didn't catch it, second time I got a suspicion. third time I told him that he needs to honor what he advertises and not scam me. and he always states "business is hard these days". I understand business is hard. but that doesn't give him the right to squeeze every dollar he can undetected. it's happened to me and many other people I know that are stationed on coast guard island. if you want to buy good military surplus gear for the right price and not get scammed. go to gear rack or venture surplus online. if what I typed out above doesn't deter you from getting scammed out of your hard earned (and heavily taxed) money then have your calculator app ready to do the math yourself and give pushback. read more

I've bought a few pairs of used but good condition BDU pants from them before, and have been happy with the quality and use that I have gotten from them, as well as the selection in the store, hence my previous 5 star review. However, there is one thing I have been ignoring, and that is the younger of the two men that run the store. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, but the attitude and behavior of the younger man on my most recent visit clinched it for me. I won't be coming back unless they have something that I absolutely have to have, and can't get anywhere else. The older gentleman has always been kind and helpful. The younger one, abrupt and unhelpful. A few days ago, after spending about half an hour in the store, and trying to decide on a pair of BDU pants, I decided to leave without purchasing anything. As I was about to walk out the door, he said, "Go to the free market!" Thinking that he was recommending another place I could try (and, as always, thinking the best of people), I asked him what and where the free market was. He was standing with his back to me, didn't turn round, and didn't respond. Once again, loudly and clearly, I said, "What is the free market? Where is it?" Once again, he stood with his back to me, shifting his weight from one foot to the other in an agitated fashion, without responding or turning round to face me, purposely ignoring me. He is fairly fluent in English, but it doesn't appear to be his first language. In that moment, I realized that "Go to the free market" was his way of calling me cheap for not buying anything in his store. Unreal. I'm done with this store. The guy is effing rude. It's a shame because the older gentleman is cool. Short version of this review - they have a good selection, but the younger guy is effing rude. read more

Just wanted to confirm that it's not a fluke that this business has so many one-star reviews. I thought the negative reviews were possibly exaggerated, but they are not. The owner really is that hostile and unfriendly to customers. He's in the wrong line of business running a retail store where he has to interact with customers. This experience came as a shock to me since the military surplus stores I have been to in the past had amazing service. This store has a large variety of products, but everything is overpriced and a lot of it is low quality. They've got pretty much everything you might want at an army navy shop except a decent location. It keeps the prices low, I gather. Reverse sticker shock on almost everything. Lots of sturdy clothes. If only I could give zero stars or better yet, negative stars.......This place advertises that it is open until 6:00. We drove over an hour to get there and as we pulled up at 5:20 p.m., the lights were on. I went up to the door and the lights immediately went off. I knocked on the door and then went to the window where I could see them exiting out the back. The sign on the door says they are open till 6:00. The website says they are open till 6:00. The online listing says they are open until 6:00, and their phone message says they are open till 6:00. I am disappointed and thoroughly disgusted because they were in there when we pulled up. I do not recommend doing business with these kinds of people - very disappointing and unfortunate for them as my teenage boys love military clothing and equipment as do all their friends, but they have lost all of their business and our business. read more

I was more than PLEASANTLY pleased when I walked in the owners were very quiet, but they kept their eyes on everything going on in the store. I found some old Army pins and clothing I had prior. I came into the store with my grandma to help my uncle who is fighting the war in Ukraine by getting him some army tactical gear. There was nobody in the store except for me and my grandma and we were on FaceTime with my uncle that was currently in Ukraine so he could see the different items the store had to offer. So of course we had a lot of questions and we were in there for about an hour looking at different things and right as we were about to pay we asked for a different size in a hat and the owner decided to throw a big fit throw some stuff on the ground slam the door while he went to the back to look for what we needed. This was very upsetting for me and my grandma personally as we're going through a lot with her family in Ukraine and just wanted to be able to ship some army stuff out and we couldn't do that so we decided to hurry up and leave as the owner was in the back looking for the sizing I would not recommend coming here at all the owner is very rude and does not want to help you with anything. Not bad Oakland. I'm a sucker for a good Army Navy store and so I had to make a detour when I was doing a little bike expedition and spied this East Oakland gem. This is your typical Army Navy store. A bit musky, a huge inventory of army navy bags, old school looking jackets and sweaters, gas masks (I need those) and a nice array of Swiss Army knives; pretty standard. Although no hunting or camping sections, they have some random knick knacks that could prove useful to both pastimes. I'm definitely coming here for my next Halloween costume - they have a bunch of masks and not to mention foreign polizia jackets. DOPE. No Carhartt gear... not dope. Seems that they are a Dickies establishment here. Definitely a store you come in with not needing anything, yet you leave with something. The guys manning the front who I'm assuming are the owners definitely aren't friendly: no hello's or goodbye's, just down to business here. A private parking lot makes this super easy/stress free stop. Prices seemed actually more than reasonable siding on the inexpensive side. Score! They are an authorized distributor of Benchmade knives and have a really amazing selection. I was able to find the newly released knife I saw online (it was a first production too) as well as some hard to find discontinued models. The owners are not the most outgoing or knowledgeable folks about the items they are selling but I found them to be quite pleasant. Also not sure what experience some people have had with them but I'm a mixed race Lesbian and felt very comfortable with how they treated me. I stopped in here a few Saturdays ago, while my son and his friends were cooling their heals at Pump it Up. This place is packed with stuff and yet very organized at the same time. In particular, I was impressed with the selection of pants and knives. Surplus also doesn't mean discount here, so shop carefully. And yes, the store appears to be owned and operated by Muslims who aren't always particularly engaging. However, this Jewish man doesn't mind being left alone when I'm shopping. And for another reviewer here to speculate that they hate Jews is irresponsible at best. They have a huge variety of inventory, everything from vintage military uniforms, tactical gear, large selection of knives, camping equipment, etc. The comments regarding the staff being rude I find laughable. I have been there 3 times in the last couple of months and have found the employees to be very helpful on each of my visits. I like this place. I don't have an issue with wary people in a place where knives and weapons are. I also know that people give these people a lot of crap so they aren't too happy about mouthy motherf$&*#rs in their store.
