Board games and beer on a Sunday afternoon. What more could any working person want in their life? Okay, lots of things. But for now, this is where it's at. My friends and I came here for drinks on a lazy weekend, and to play some serious catch-up. We ended up ordering two sets of flights (about $10 each) with half of the ten beers chosen by our bartender. He was hilarious in explaining what kinds of beers to order, as well as some of his personal favorites. After we got our beers, we drank, chilled, and got merry. Inside are plenty of tables to sit yourself down and enjoy some local beer, while people watching and literally watching a game on the big screen. We stayed for two hours and never felt rushed to leave or anything. Beers on tap were good, and you should definitely order a flight to sample as many as you can. Super spacious, tons of natural light and great ambience for a local brewery, I'm sure this place crushes it on Friday and Saturday nights too. What can I say about this place? Well for starters it's my favorite place in Alameda period! I mean there's so much to like about. The brew they serve is top notch! It's spacious and clean. The staff is really friendly and knowledgeable about the brew they serve. I found out about this place a couple of years ago and immediately became a fan. It's located on Park Street in Alameda. Which is a wonderful street full of great places to eat and drink. After my first visit I was hooked. One of the best things about coming here is it's located right next to Monkey King. Which is my second favorite place in Alameda. More on that in a separate review. The decor really celebrates the history of Alameda and America. There's games to play and they allow dogs to come in with their owners. Which is really cool. The only drawback I can see is parking. It's an on going problem in a town like Alameda. Love this place. Great selection of beers on tap, my personal favorites are the Cavanaugh Kolsch, the uncommon common, island city ipa, and the El ager. The tap room crew is always friendly and know their stuff. They're happy to recommend beers and answer questions about the different choices on tap. I like the aspect that you can bring food in, the guys behind the counter are also friendly and talkative. The idea you can leave popsicle sticks with beers for people is really nifty as well. The place is well lit with lots of space to move around. There's also some old arcade games to play if you're into that thing. Alameda Brewery is in a great location on Park Blvd. Pints are approximatley $7 flight and tasters are $1.50. Iprefer Pilsners but there is a larger selection of lagers and IPA's. I had two tasters Kolsch and the Berryessa Pilsner. I like the lightness of both, one being of German and the other more West Coast (yes you can taste the difference hops and brewing techniques. The ambiance is spacious in the older brick building plus wide open with the industrial tables and chairs. The Friday afternoon was the perfect time to have a beer thirty time on the outside patio. Coming from San Diego, I'm naturally a little snobby about the quality of craft beer. That sounds so ridiculous but when you're spoiled with such good crafts, it's hard not to be. Cue Alameda Island Brewing Company. On a work trip to Oakland, my coworker and I stopped in for a few brews after our conference. WOW. Hold up. These beers are the bomb. I went with the flight that gave me a good tasting of their classic beers (#1-5). Each one I tasted was really good. I especially loved the American Pale Ale. It was my favorite and I wished I could've brought some back down with me. Seriously, I can't speak highly enough about the taste of these beers. I'll have to see if I can find them in SD. The place itself is cool to. Funny bartenders with good space to sit and chill. You can bring in outside food and there's a Monkey Paw right next door with wings, noodles and fried rice. Can I just say how happy I am to have a brewery so close to home?! . The beers are amazing here. My favorite is the Island Haze , a few of those and I'm a happy camper. My husband prefers his IPA's and his Sea Haggis when he gets here. We came here when it first opened and with barely anyone and it's amazing to what it has become! We always grab a growler to-go also. With MK next door that serves up some good wings and side plates to munch on while you enjoy some good ol' handcrafted beer, the best combo in my books! I always get the salt and pepper wings and fries combo, the disco fries, cajun noodles and the spareribs! My kids love the fact that they can come here too and hang out. WOOHOO!! May I have some more please? Great brewery. Went in for a beer and was greeted by a fanatic bartender who knew her stuff. There was only a hand full of people when I was there so I was able to talk with her a little bit. Which is always something I like to do. Figure if the staff isn't knowledgable and nice then it reflects on the owner. She was both and then some. So, I'm an IPA guy at heart and that's my go to style. BUT! There's a lot of IPA's I don't like because of too much ABV or too little hops. They had a few that day so I decided to get a flight of beer. She gave me the following in this order. 12 Hazel, 11 Dahop, 5 Island City, 9 Alameda, and 8 Unrep. Now, what truly won was 5 Island City with great flavor, body, and hops. What came in a close second was 9 Alameda. All the beers I tasted were great and enjoyed them all but those two are the one's I'd order every day. Buy the time I finished my flight the bar got busy and I met a guy who was just passing though on his way to Oregon. Have to say the clientele is just regular people who span all ages. Really enjoyed this place and will be back when I'm in Alameda. I good surprise cam when I realized I was kinda hungry and just finished a flight of beer. Bad combo right? I noticed people eating food after it got busy so I inquired about the food with the bartender and she pointed to a place just outside the door called the Monkey King At the Brewery. This local brewery has a large selection of beers brewed at this location. A flight is only $12 and you can choose to build your own or have them build one for you. I personally prefer light, hoppier, beers so we chose 4 IPAs and 1 stout. All the IPAs were extremely carbonated. It was refreshing for the hot day, but unsure if I would try it again on a slighter cooler day. DO NOT COME HERE DURING COVID BAD IDEA .Okay I have no idea how the amazing cool servers somehow changed into the server or manager from hell . I came in today asking if I can buy a beer and my order is still in process at monkey king . A simple "oh we don't serve unless you got a table here yet" would've sufficed but this woman with the flower mask cornered me every time I tried to make a way back to monkey king to get my order first then come to alameda island brewing company . I kept making excuses to leave but she literally stopped and cornered me at every step to tell me their "new" policy in ways that are not to the point . I understand there would be some change regarding Covid happening . But this woman was pushy, rude , scary like straight up horror movie psycho scary. She didn't let me order normally and forced me to use a QR code even if we're paying in cash and the online order doesn't let you pay in cash . We tried to pay right away but no no no they wouldn't let us and ignored us with our hand extended to pay . Then later came over and hassled us like we're some sort of freeloaders to pay . They were so condescending in so many ways first with asking for my ID , she wouldn't even listen to me talk before I had my ID in her hand and then gave another condescending grimace and next with us paying . We tried paying earlier but the girl in a hat and chain around her mask or something saw us with our hand out trying to pay and turned around and ignored us . We even tipped more than 20% before we realized this horrendous attitude is just the beginning. Because of her nasty service I went and bought a pack of cigarettes after not smoking for a MONTH and while I stood up with my mask on my chin with my party at the table eating , she blocked my way yet again saying I HAVE TO put my mask on while walking across the brewery like okay I didn't know, you don't have to turn this into a some sort of interrogation. And now onto the way I was smoking , I was smoking on the tire place right next door with an actual person witnessing me and when I came in after I was done she came rushing over cornering me AGAIN saying I have to smoke around the corner and isn't that what I just did ? This woman is the worst thing I have ever seen happen to a restaurant. Alameda island brewery is suffering with this woman around . Such horrid behavior from an overly pushy employee that ruined my whole dining experience and so as my party's . I did not deserve to be targeted this way personally by an overly controlling deranged woman . This place has 16+ different varieties of beer (+ some minor variations including barrel aged beer) for their patrons to enjoy. As you walk in, you get a glimpse of where the the magic happens; a large windows offers a view the brewing process as you taste their fruits of Alameda Island Brewing Company's labor. There are plenty of board games to play while you taste their selection, however, if you're going to watch a sporting event, it may be better to visit another establishment as they only have a few TVs to play your favorite sporting event. As you sip a flight of beer, you might feel the buzz sneak up on you, unfortunately, the only food option is from an outside source. There is a food establishment right outside the side doors and PLENTY of food options down the street, so this isn't too much of a deal breaker. I'm looking for an apartment on the east end just so I can be closer to this place! Michael is the best!! I still love this brewery. It is my home away from home. The Boyington beer rocked. But I have effectively finished that beer. The Ballena Stout on nitro is a staple. The Sea Haggis is the best malty beer in the area. I love the UNrep IPA. It is extremely smooth for a double. And when all else fails, the Uncommon Common can't be beat. However, can I tell you that Michael will entertain you and school you on all things regarding the 'dark side'. But Colleen is the Best bar wench EVER! And when Colleen and Micael are working, you know you are going to have the best night ever...especially if you get to dance to The Up and Down Band! This is one of my favorite neighborhood spots. The staff are super friendly and welcoming to my big fluffy dog. Beer selection is great and they fill growlers and cans. They have some long picnic-style tables which makes it a great place to go with a group of friends. They also have a patio between them and Monkey King restaurant next door. You can order food there and they'll deliver it to you in the brewery. They also have some board games and TVs inside to watch sports games. read more

We were invited to come check out the brewery to celebrate their opening anniversary and it was great. The place was packed with people eating, drinking, and having a great time. The atmosphere was very friendly and welcoming. The staff and bartenders were willing to answer questions and give their input and suggestions since it was our first time trying out their brews. A lot of the bet that we ordered had great body and flavor to them. There's everything there to cater to all tastes and pallets. They listened to our preferences and made a lot of good recommendations. We didn't get a chance to check out their food but it seemed like the standard fair. They're also very open to bringing in stuff from their neighbors. I will definitely be back to get more drinks and would highly recommend checking out this place. read more

Wow! Wide range of beer for everyone's palate. I've been really into the Hazy IPAs for the last couple of years and tasted fresh beer from many local breweries in the Bay Area and beyond. Alameda Island has THE BEST, most balanced, hazy IPA that I have tasted and I am hooked! Island Haze... I buy it by the case and drink it at home, at camping, on adventures. I'm nowhere near a beer aficionado, but I like this place! Tried the Hidden Buddha, and really liked the Neptune's harvest. I felt like like the Neptune's harvest was one of the first fruity beers I've had that actually tastes fruity and not just like a random tarty flavor. The outdoor dining was pretty covid safe, I think there was around 6 pretty socially distanced tables and you are required to bus your own table. Being able to order from Monkey King is also a HUGE plus. Only giving it 4 stars because I think this is the first place I've ever been told while actively ordering MORE beer and food that I'm " hitting the 90 minute mark, and that there's a waiting list." Great beer and a great brewery. Very nice and helpful staff, too. Being a lover of beer, you can definitely find a beer you will like here. Every time I have come here, I end up taking some beers home with me too. There is a tasty restaurant next door and Alameda Island will let you bring in the food to their place while you enjoy their beers. So, you can just eat and drink all day! :) Also, we have brought our kid here (because sometimes mom and dad need a beer, you know), and there are always games to entertain her. I'm reading through Yelp reviews and see I'm not the only person here who's had a bad encounter. Basically every other staff member makes me feel welcome in this place except this guy. At first I gave it a chance of like, he's just doing his job and he doesn't really know me. But honestly, after coming here a lot and the fact that he still is rude to me every single time -- again, makes me want to stay away from this place as much as possible. If you can come here without that gentleman behind the bar - you'll have an AWESOME time. If you do come here and he happens to be your bartender, get your ID ready EVERY SINGLE TIME you order and be prepared for some snarky remark and him rushing you for your order. Went to Alameda Island Brewing Company for the first time this evening. We have ordered their Hef-D online before, but hadn't been able to visit due to COVID. Their storehouse is open and even dog friendly. Joe was extremely helpful in explaining the different beer options they have. Dog friendly! I repeat, this brewery is dog friendly. And ugh...that makes me so happy. All the puppers hanging out with their dog moms and dads just fills my heart with joy. I went to Alameda Island Brewing for a friend's birthday. This was during the NLCS which I appreciated so I could watch some baseball. They have a few TVs. Since there's no food at the location, you can bring in your own or have Monkey Thai (next door) bring you food. I went with the Hazy IPA. That then got me on a hazy IPA kick :) There's some board games around the perimeter that you can play with your friends or family. My friends and I played Scrabble while petting be doggies.
