I had a colonoscopy yesterday morning with Dr. Barrett I usually don't bother reviewing my experiences with Doctors but I would be remiss if I didn't take a moment to express my gratitude & appreciation for the way I was treated from the moment I stepped into the reception area. The entire staff was polite, efficient, patient and very professional. The procedure itself was totally painless. I would highly recommend getting the mid-sedation injection as opposed to the heavier anesthesia that requires having an anesthesiologist present in the room. Dr. Garrett was awesome, he took the time to explain the procedure and answered all of my ridiculous questions before the nurse injected me with the sedatives. I have no recollection of the actual colonoscopy itself. The worse part is the prep. But there is no way around that part. The colon must be as squeaky-clean as is humanly possible, no pun intended. I give this facility and the entire staff a 10 out of 10 rating!!!! read more

This surgery center is 5 Star. From pre-operation, during the operation process and post-operation, the Alameda Surgery Center is top notch. Their level of care is phenomenal with every aspect of the process covered so completely and professionally that there is nothing to cause any stress. I have had four colonoscopy procedures all at this Center in Burbank and have never had any issue. My last procedure just two days ago went perfectly and my level of care during the whole visit was top notch thanks to the great nurses that I had including Kristine, Kathryn, Lusine and Jim. If you are lucky to have a doctor that uses this Surgery Center as one of their choices, insist that your procedure is done here. read more

First off just want to say thank you to the nurses here! I have anxiety, and get incredibly anxious when it comes to doctors and especially surgery so I was pretty nerved up but these nurses calmed me from the moment they called me from the waiting room. I wish I could remember their names but between my initial anxiety and the drugs used for the surgery I'm blank on a lot of the details. The wait time was minimal, the nurses talk you through every step, and are so kind and reassuring. The last thing I remember is the tech in the room fixing my nose ring for me lol and when I woke up again I was greeted by two cups of refreshing water! Then today I got a phone call from nurse Jim asking me how I was and making sure all was good, he even answered some questions I had. One final thing, you think this would be a big deal, but I'm gay and had my girlfriend picking me up and none of the nurses or staff had any hesitations about that, that was huge for me because normally I get the dreaded pause and stare and that didnt happen here! All in all this was a great (who woulda thought anyone would describe any kinda surgical procedure as a great 5 star experience lol) experience and if I ever have to have something like this done again I'll 100% come back to Alameda Surgical Center. read more

I went this morning to Alameda Surgery Center, when I got there I was greeted with a big smile and handed my paperwork, as soon as I finished filling it out they called me back. The nurses took care of me immediately. They were so helpful, very informative, efficient and made sure I was comfortable. They wasted no time, before I knew it I had the IV in my hand and I was off to surgery. The room was totally ready, doc and nurses were there, I talked to the anesthesiologist (who seemed very nice) all of 30 seconds before I passed out! Next thing I knew, done, in recovery, nurses checking on me, bringing me ginger ale and blankets. I was so happy with getting in and out, not sitting in a waiting area for hours or being forgotten in an exam room. The whole team made something I was dreading quick and painless! read more

I had to go in for something that no 30 year old should have to have checked, but I grudgingly dragged myself in, totally terrified. The Nurses, my doctor, my anesthesiologist... they were all just simply fantastic and got me through it with as little stress as possible. I came in, they saw how stressed out I was (lovely BP and HR), sat me down and got me to relax (a little). The procedure consisted of my lying down, them saying "good night," and me waking up like nothing had happened. So great. Thank you! read more

My son was a patient of Dr. Lee who was to do knee surgery on my son. The morning of the appointment I realized that Dr Lee who was with Stetson and Powell and in network with my health insurance but this surgery center was not. Literally as my son is being prepped I am on the phone with my insurance when Dr. Lee comes into the hallway and says he will do surgery as if it is in network. He tells the billing lady to code it as in network. I was only to pay $500 deductible for the surgery. They wanted $250 up front. Every bill after that was not the remaining $250. I tried to get the bill changed by calling and billing lady was not very nice and she stated she couldn't change it since I never paid remaining $250. Well I never got a bill for the remaining $250 just the bill for over $1000. I was so frustrated I just let it go to collections at this point. I felt lied to. I will gladly pay the remaining $250 if they can pull the account from collections and make this the way it was supposed to be from the beginning. I will not pay a penny more as that was not what I was promised. Crazy part is my sons knee is still in pain all these years later. They should have more integrity and honor what they say. read more

Initially, when I found out that my arthroscopic shoulder surgery was going to be performed here versus a hospital, I was a bit worried. But then, I figured since I trust the doctor that's to perform the surgery, I decided not to worry. And boy oh boy am I glad my doctor uses this place, because these guys are GREAT!! They called my husband 3 times (once when they were getting started, once during to let him know everything's going well, and last time to let him know I was out of surgery) to keep him updated. He said they were extremely courteous and professional, and I concur from my point of view. From the time we walked in until we walked out (or wheeled out, in my case), they were great. These folks truly love what they do and it shows. They're a true testament to the medical field. read more

I was very disappointed, first I had relayed to my surgeon that I was to have general anesthesia and it was totally overlooked by the staff at Alameda Surgical Center. Because of this, the procedure was very uncomfortable. Since I had not eaten in over a day due to having a colonoscopy, thought they might have offered a snack and better selection of beverages other than water or lousy ginger ale.. This will definitely be the last time that I have any procedures done at this this surgical center. read more

COLONOSCOPY I'd had this procedure done 10-15 years ago, and had such a BAD experience, that I was not sure that I'd ever do it again. But this time, I only have VERY STRONG KUDOS for the Alameda Surgery Center, and for Dr. Stephen Levinson. The experience certainly could never be fun, but Dr. Levinson allowed me to try an alternative preparation technique, which is MUCH easier to follow. (NO vegetable material for 3-4 days pre-procedure, eating only dairy and meat; then OK to continue this during the day before rather than the horrible "clear liquid" only diet that leaves one starving; the hardest part is drinking the 2nd half of the Golytely® only 4 hours before the procedure- in my case this meant getting up at 1:30 a.m., but WELL worth it!). The staff was extremely competent, caring (including all the heated blankets you want!), and professional. I won't need to do it again for 10 years, but, this time I won't dread it. read more

Great experience having a scary procedure (screening colonoscopy). Dr Bennett was wonderful and thankfully all was well. I felt very taken care of even though I was a bit anxious, but comforted by the fact that everyone knew what they were doing and kept me informed. The surgery center and patient staff are good. The billing person, Dawn, is incompetent. My husband and I both had preventative colonoscopy in 7/2019. We had the same procedure, same everything. Dawn sent the claim to our insurance at $10,000 for each procedure. Our insurance paid my husbands claim with zero co-pay and zero-deductible at $950. But for my claim, because the claim was coded differently, the bill was $950 as my deductible. I spent many hours and phone calls to sort this out in Aug/Sept. In 9/2019 Dawn told me that she re-coded and resubmitted to insurance, everything should be taken care of. Today, 3/18/2020 6 mths later, Dawn calls to tell me the claim has not been paid. Either I call insurance company to fix it or pay up. I will never will use this surgery center again because of their billing person. read more

Just had a colonoscopy done here a couple of weeks ago, in the middle of a heat wave. On the drive over, thermometer in car read 117 degrees! But when I arrived, the gal at the front desk was so cheerful, welcoming and friendly, it really helped relax me. She was in such a good mood I had to comment on it to her and let her know how I appreciated it because I walked in kinda nervous and it really calmed me down. After I finished the paperwork I was taken right in to prep for the procedure. there was a very large newly redone bathroom where I changed. The nurses were all very nice and also in a good mood. It seemed like they all enjoyed working there and with one another. I did have to wait in the pre-op area for a bit. Finally I was taken in to the procedure room and laid down and got comfortable. I really was looking forward to the forced nap! (I wish I could remember all their names; they really were great. Very warm and professional, yet relaxed and joking a bit. I am usually nervous during medical things, so I always appreciate it when they can be light and make me laugh. They were great at telling me each step what was happening.) So finally they told me they were starting the anesthesia. Then they asked me to turn on my left side. I said, great that is normally how I sleep. So I turned over and snuggled right in. I remember thinking how comfortable I was. And that was it, next thing I knew I was awake and it was over. Zero discomfort. They had already called my son to come pick me up. Couldnt have asked for a better experience. Now if only the prep part could get easier, that Suprep is awful! Thank you Alameda Surgery Center, you guys are great! read more

I had a procedure done on September 16 and I had the best experience I wanted to acknowledge couple people who work there and help me during this time one of the ladies name was Heather Benter and the other lady who was working in the surgery room was Heather Marlowe I hope I'm spelling this names right the moment I walked in from the person who registers all my medication I think her name was Maria I didn't get her name she was so sweet and that moment I know I was in the right place after the procedures were done a young lady name Alicia Magana helped me to get dressed and waited for me until my daughter meets me up to go home I can't tell enough about the stuff from the front desk to the end I hope I had all the names but I will hundred percent recommend this place to do the procedure you need to and this Angels are the one who makes that place like Heaven I just want to acknowledge these people and recognize them I gave not only five star I give hundred star to this facility thank you again thank you for a beautiful team job you guys doing over there read more

This place is a disgrace and no one should trust them with their health during a surgical procedure. First off - I want to say I did not actually have surgery there. I cancelled it due to the lack of professionalism. I was scheduled to have a simple umbilical hernia surgery here. Sounds pretty easy. 30 min procedure, outpatient, no big deal. The surgery then got pushed a week after its originally scheduled date because THEY FORGOT TO PUT IT IN THE CALENDAR. Then 2 days before the second surgery date, I received a call telling me the time had changed from 10:30am to 1:30pm. Annoying, but fine. I let the person picking me up know that it would be later- great for them actually since they had to leave work in order to get me. Then the day before the surgery at about 2:30pm I receive a call that the surgery is now at 1pm...not too big of a deal, so I call my ride again to update them, they get it approved with work- all set. Not an hour later the surgery center calls again to inform me that my surgery has now been moved back to its original time of 10:30am. When I explain that I can not do that because my ride has planned for the later time and without them I can't leave they respond "Well that's your only option. Or I can just cancel it." FYI Alameda Surgery Center- THIS IS NOT THE WAY TO TREAT PATIENTS. Surgery is stressful enough as it is without you being able to figure out what time it is happening at. People have lives that revolve around your ability to do your job. Threatening to cancel a surgery is not an appropriate response to dealing with your mistakes. If an anesthesiologist is not confirmed- don't confirm my surgery time with me and then call back an hour later to change it. Your lack of organization and communication is frightening and NO ONE SHOULD EVER GO HERE FOR SURGERY. If I can't trust you to follow through on a simple time slot and hiring an anesthesiologist, why and how could I trust you with the actual surgery. **Note: The person who threatened to just cancel the surgery all together was Janelle- THE HEAD OF THE SURGERY CENTER. Bill: $10,000 for facility fee for the ONE hour I was there for a routine colonoscopy. Why not $100,000 or why not a million or a trillion. How out of line must the charge be? To me $10,000 is so over the top that it is a fraud. Had I been informed of this completely out-of-line over-the-top charge I would simply have gone elsewhere. There was ample opportunity to specify this fee and it is never stated; that is a deliberate deception for unfair gain. Facility: While the bill is high end, the facility is not. It is a clean, well managed, well staffed, no frills surgery center, in what probably used to be a regular medical office. Staff: Polite friendly, but.... I explained that I really wanted the IV in my left arm (they can never find a good vein in the right and I was very dehydrated at the point they need to insert the IV, making it just that much harder to find a vein). She insisted it had to be in the right arm. They collapsed what little vein I had in my right arm. It hurt and it still hurts... And then after that, they put the IV in my left arm. I liked the doctor just fine...but on balance, I would never ever ever ever recommend either him or this facility due to heart attack/stroke zone billing. I had a procedure done and from start to finish everyone was amazing. They were very kind and helpful. They also helped lighten the mood. Getting surgery is never an exciting thing even if it is a simple procedure. I really appreciated all the smiles and thorough Information. Everything is always triple checked which is great to know. I had the best experience at Alameda Surgery Center this week. I had an upper endoscopy and colonoscopy- I was very nervous for the procedure and all of the staff was incredibly kind and assuring. Everyone at the surgery center was nice to me- even nurses passing by asked if I was cold and needed a heated blanket. The anesthesiologist was very light hearted and warm, he called the medicine his "potions" and it made everything seem not as scary. If I never need any other procedures, they will be done here! read more

I was referred to the Alameda Surgery Center by my GP for a colonoscopy. In short, I had a '10' experience. Phone staff: Courteous; answered all questions; follow-up as promised. Pre-surgery calls 24 hours prior: Check-in nurse: polite and sweet; I felt that she really liked her job; and Dr. Levin, Anesthesiologist: nice; asked me usual questions and sounded like he cared too. Day of Surgery: Surgery nurse: Scott was nice and very good at his job; Dr. Levin, took good care of me; I did not wake up during surgery. Thank you! Dr. Garrett, Surgeon: Good bed-side manner. I had my first colonoscopy at Alameda Surgery Center. I couldn't be more pleased with the entire experience. I arrived a bit early for my appointment and was immediately greeted by a smiling, friendly receptionist. I filled out the required paperwork and then waited for no more than 5 minutes before I was called into the pre-op room. The nurse, Jim, that took my vitals and explained several things to me, couldn't have been nicer. I was a bit nervous, but he made me feel very comfortable. I next met the anesthesiologist, Dr. Levin. What a kind man! He too, explained several procedures to me. Lastly, I met Dr. Schulman in the procedure room. He was very professional, answered my questions, and made me feel totally at ease. I highly recommend this facility because of their professionalism and warm and caring staff. read more

I have had 3 procedures at Alameda Surgery Center and all have been easy and painless. My most recent procedure required an IV which most RNs have a hard time getting in on the first time with me. I told Jim, my RN, and he made the extra effort to make sure he got it the first time. All the staff were friendly and very concerned with making sure I was comfortable! I had a colonoscopy for the second time at the Alameda Surgery Center and i must say they are the most professional and hospitable. I had Jacque as my nurse again and she was so warm, friendly, and comforting. Dr. Kuritzkes was also very professional and warm as usual. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. I was greeted by a nice lady at the front door for COVID screening. Greeted by another nice lady at the front desk. Signed your usual papers. I was brought into the clinic, and met Heather, a very kind LVN, who happens to be going to the same RN school I graduated from. She ran through her list of questions and I signed my consent form. Despite having to poke me 3 times to get an IV in me, she always made sure I was okay. I was hooked up to the machines, and was met by another great nurse anaesthetist Debbie. She went over a few additional things like allergies, how I was feeling, etc. After a few minutes I was greeted by another nurse, also Debbie. They wheeled me back to the surgery room. I met a cute Filipino technician named Kim who helped Dr.Kasher. They put me on oxygen and checked my vitals and monitored me. Put me on oxygen, the anaesthetist started the propofol. I knocked out in less than 2 minutes. Next thing you know, I was awake and back in the pre-OP room where I started. I met one last RN, named Ana. She briefly went over how everything went. She helped me out of bed, and brought my belongings to the bathroom so I could change. After, they escorted me to a small separate room where my dad was waiting for me to pick me up. The medical care here was outstanding and very compassionate. The billing situation is poor. They tell you they will accept Blue Cross payments even though they are not a preferred provider. You sign everything after they explain that and then when Blue Cross allows an amount, they collect a larger amount . DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU HAVE A PPO THEY DO NOT BELONG TO. THEY TOTALLY TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE PATIENTS WHEN THEY ARE IN PAIN AND NEED CARE. read more

This place is clean and has professional help. My problem with them has to do with billing and what they overcharge for their services. First, they didn't receive a penny from Anthem Blue Cross just a contracted price. I had to pay separately for the Doctor, Anesthesiologist , procedure and labs. So my question is how can they justify billing Anthem Blue Cross a $9500 charge if all the other third parties are billing separate. It's not like I was the only one. They were doing no less than three colonoscopies an hour. On top of it, we were told the insurance would cover it and all i had to pay was a $210 deductible. They lied. Then, heaven help you if you can't pay the balance, they want their money regardless of your finances. They have no reduction for financial hardship. Charity is not expected but an understanding to reduce a fictitious random number is appreciated. . You save zero dollars by using Alameda. They are getting paid for their space more than any medical professional involved. Can only recommend if insurance covers your procedure 100% otherwise be prepared for the bill you can't justify. Went in for a colonoscopy. The only thing I noticed was poor infection control. I was wheeled in on a cot then asked to stand up onto the floor to transfer to the cot where there were to to the procedure. What I had to stand on was splattered spots of liquid like feces on the floor. I thought that this floor should be cleansed with disinfectant after each procedure and clearly this time it wasn't. read more
