Movie previews are entertaining, food was fresh, and seating was comfy. Lighting is VERY DARK which makes eating extraordinarily hard. And makes the little order papers hard to see during movie. Our server got busy and forgot our fried pickles, and 45min before the movies end (we got to the theatre 25min early, and ordered immediately) , we reminded her and asked her to cancel them. Turns out they were never ordered. She was very nice, just very busy and training another new employee it seemed. The events offered, like throw back movie nights, cinema trivia, stuff for adults look cool. We may check them out soon!... The bar selection looks awesome, but we saw a movie with our kiddos, and were driving, so we had to skip those adult milkshakes...this time... All in all, I think we'll be back sooner than later. I had read about the Alamo Drafthouse in a local newspaper and it sounded incredible, sadly it didn't quite live up to my expectations. The seats were much smaller than at the Movie Tavern. You have to share a table and the drink holder is on the opposite side of the table. If you stick down the drink too far, the whole drink holder comes up. The theater we saw the movie wasn't very large, I'm not sure if the largest theater has any better setup. The screen quality and sound was great but I didn't notice any difference compared to any other similar theater in the area. The service was good but the order process feels outdated having to write down the order on paper, putting the paper in a holder and hoping the server will come by and see it. It seems more effective to just have button to push. The server still had a question about the order we had written down so it didn't disturb people any less although the movie hadn't started yet. How long before we can actually order from a smartphone? It doesn't seem like a big feat but no theater seem to have quite gotten there yet. I ordered a chicken jerk sandwich, it was really good with good flavor. I like that they give you refills without you having to ask for it. The service was good, everyone greeted you. I'm sure I will be back at some point when a movie showing is in a timeslot that is convenient for me, not because they are outperforming the competition at this point. read more

Alamo Drafthouse has come to Denton! If you have never been to Alamo Drafthouse than you need to experience it, you won't want to go anywhere else. Seats - You get to sit in extremely comfy, large recliners. No more leg cramping, butt falling asleep, sharing your personal space kinda seats like at other theaters. These are top-of-the-line seats that make you feel at home and never want to leave! Food - High quality, delicious food. Our most recent trip we ordered the Buffalo Cauliflower Bites off the Starters menu. They were lightly breaded and perfectly fried. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They had a tangy, slightly spicy flavor that paired perfectly with the savory cauliflower. I will definitely order these again. Drinks - You mean I can have a drink while watching a movie? Yes please! This trip we ordered a Sangria. It was light, refreshing, and packed with citrusy flavors. They also have a full bar where you can sit and drink in the bar area or have everything promptly delivered to your seat in the theater. Rules - So not everyone likes rules, but without rules you have chaos and people ruining movies. People talking get one warning and then they are thrown out without a refund. If you love to talk through movies or play on your phone than this may not be the theater for you. If you, like me, enjoy complete quiet while watching the performance, than you will appreciate the guidelines that have been put in place. Staff - Every time that we have visited an Alamo Drafthouse the staff has been friendly and appear to enjoy their job. It's always more fun when people helping you seem to be happy to be there. The only slight negative about Alamo is the price. Tickets are a little steep, but are only $5 on Tuesday. Food is a little pricy also, but good quality. The best place to see a movie. Where to start? Well, if you've been to another Alamo it's the same awesome experience- except now in Denton! :D Their food is awesome. Pricey, like most theaters, but a very non-generic selection. I had a chili cheese hot dog that used hatch green chile queso and it was perfect. We also had a pepperoni pizza - and yeah pizza is pizza but they add some nice flavoring to this so it doesn't taste so run of the mill. Also their ordering system is good since you don't have to talk and interrupt the movie. (You write your order down and they pick it up) I love the old-school movie clips, and just all around bizarre and rad clips, they show before the movie. I like to go early to order food and the clips make it more enjoyable. Seats are comfy af. So, yeah. It is a little pricey (aren't most movies now anyway?), but it's THE movie/dinner experience. And they do movie party showings that are cool - so check those out. Very unique theater. Glad it's come to Denton! read more

I am not sure if my friend and I looked suspicious or it is there policy but I dont like that we had to constantly show our movie tickets to the employees. When we walked in we showed them, as we were walking to our theater room we showed someone else and then once we were seated an employee walked up to us to verify our seats. This was my first time ever at Alamo so I am not sure if this is protocol but I will more than likely go elsewhere in the future. read more

Stopped in yesterday for the first time. First impression they had a nice bar setup and patio. Beers on tap were not top notch, but not bad either. We took our beers and went to our seats in the theater. Seats are comfy, but they could recline back a little further for my liking, along with having my own food table would be nice, but overall its great. Service was superb with friendliness and knowledge. We had ordered the wings tossed in buffalo, the fancy pants, the veggie tray with hummus and the whiskey shake(this one was a little messy around the glass, but taste was delicious) Commercials before the film are quirky. We had a good experience at Alamo Drafthouse. I read the reviews and I got the impression that people either really like Alamo Drafthouse or they really dislike it. It has a slightly different feel than other dine-in theaters. They are strict about no talking or cell usage during the movie. It's ok to talk before the feature show and use you cell. We didn't experience any issue with this rule and it made for a nice watching experience. There is no admittance into the theater room after the movie starts. I wasn't sure if that would pose a problem if I needed to step out to the restroom but there was no issue getting up and returning during the movie. The seats are comfortable and they recline but the backs do not go as far back as similar seats in other theaters. However, it was still comfortable. I recommend sitting on a high aisle so your view angle is good without having to recline so far back. The tables were strange. There is one table shared between two adjacent seats. Keep that in mind when you book your tickets (the seat map indicates the pairings). The table surface was large and helpful for staging all your items but it was not useful as an actual eating surface because it was too far of a reach. I had to hold my food dish in my hands as I ate. The food was good. The chicken tenders were clearly fresh-made in-house and were very moist. I subbed my fries for fruit which was very fresh. We also had a Carribean chicken sandwich and it had great flavor but it was very messy and difficult to eat in that situation. Overall, one of the better theater choices in the area. read more

We went to see The Dark Phoenix here yesterday which was my first time going to an Alamo Drafthouse. The theater is nice with a small bar/restaurant area inside as well. The seats were comfortable too. I was a little concerned at first when my husband told me they didn't have buttons at the seats to alert the servers that we needed something. All you do is write down what you want on a piece of paper, stick it up on the table in front of you, and they come by to pick it up. It was very dark inside the theater but they have a very dim light underneath the table in front of you. The theater wasn't full but I must admit, we never had any issues with them coming by. They were always by within a few minutes to pick up our paper for our order or popcorn refill. I would like to see what happens when the theater is full and if they'd be just as attentive. Just had the most embarrassing experience. We waited for this place to open again, to be loyal patrons. Watched a funny movie and laughed out loud. 5 other people there and because we laughed too loud, for a few seconds, was told by Jerrick, the manager, that if we weren't quite we needed to leave. Shortly after posting my Yelp, Alamo Drafthouse posted a new policy on their website regarding straws. A Drafthouse rep also reached out and explained the policy, while also inviting my fam to try them again. I've been back a few more times and can safely say the customer service has improved, better on some days than others. I'm still crawling through their menu trying to find a favorite go-to dish for movie watching. It's also super convenient to order tickets online via their mobile app. Audio and video quality remains very good, and the reclining chairs are still well-maintained and comfy. It's a thoughtful touch that they have under-mount lighting on the tables, but they seem rather dim when you need to peruse the menu mid-show. read more

Had my first trip out to the Denton location of Alamo. Ever since the Richardson location opened up years back, they have been my favorite theater chain. I like their policies and I like how much they love movies. In that regard, this location nailed it. The theater experience itself is top marks as always - clean theater, perfect presentation. The staff, however, was really hit or miss at this location and that's why, for now, I can only give Denton three stars. We were first greeted by a gentlemen at the box office area who genuinely seemed confused overwhelmed by his tasks. It was a Monday night and there were zero other people in the area, so there was no rush or pressure on him, but just entering my phone number and looking up my rewards/tickets felt like he was navigating to parts of the system he'd never been to before, and this is literally his job. Not sure if more up-front training is needed or what. Since we were early to the theater, we went into Vetted Well to sit at the bar and have some food. There was a table of four women playing cards and the two of us and that was it. The bartender seemed as nervous and unsure of himself as the box office person. He was helpful and courteous, but apologized - a lot - for things that didn't need to be apologized for ("I'm sorry, I need my manager to approve this coupon." "Are you ready to order yet? No? I'm sorry, I'll come back.", etc.). Like the box office worker, not sure if this is his first gig as bartender, if more up-front training was needed, or what. But, as with the box office, if this is the attitude/presentation you have when there are a half-dozen people to serve, what does the experience look like when things are busy? ***Side note: PLEASE install lights pointed at the bar chalkboard draft beer menu. I was sitting at the bar near the right side of the chalkboard and couldn't read the beers on the left side because they were too dark.*** Our last interaction was with our waiter inside. I can't speak to it too much because we walked into the theater just a few minutes before the movie started. He introduced himself and made a small joke and smiled and seemed to be at ease (finally). We ordered nothing up-front but ordered some drinks during the movie. Our order card was snapped up within a minute and our drinks were delivered exactly as ordered within 5-10 (including a bar drink). It was only when we were in the theater that I felt like I was truly getting the Alamo service level I've become accustomed to. Overall, I love the Alamo formula - I'm a huge fan. This theater looks and feels like an Alamo theater. But the employee interactions felt like I was not in an Alamo. If I were a first-time visitor and this was my first Alamo experience, I'd have a hard time accepting the premium that Alamo charges over the big chains. I know the theater is still young, so I'm hoping these things can be ironed out in the next few months. read more

Never been here before and new to how things worked. Waiter was pretty funny and explained everything to us. We ordered two bar drinks that came reasonably quick. We order three appetizers to snack on and they came out quick and very hot. The temperature of the theater was perfect, not too cold and not hot. The feedback I would give is the wing sauce on the Buffalo Cauliflower needs to be held at room temp or hot to keep the app warm. While I appreciate the sauces served in Togo ramekins, they need to be filled up more, so we don't have to ask for me. The Moscow Mule was served in a regular glass and the ginger was a bit overwhelming. Seemed a bit of simple syrup would have taken the bite off. Other than that, everything was spot on. The concept of Alamo Drafthouse isn't new. Being able to serve food and drinks in a theater is a wonderful idea, but I do still expect the same restaurant quality from the theater. I ordered the chilaquiles and was incredibly underwhelmed. It was a very small portion and it wasn't as good as any chilaquiles I've had in Texas before. Movie Tavern has steadily gone downhill in quality, and they're more expensive than Alamo now in a lot of areas. Service here is shaky but they're all new employees so it's understandable. I asked for ranch twice and was never brought it. she also never brought my coke, but i was charged for it. Finally a reason to go out to the movies! Comfortable power recliners allow you to snuggle with your date. The best loaded fries we've ever had and their carnivore pizza was also very tasty. The theatre sound and projection were very good! However, they do not do well in their food service. I have been to this Alamo several times and there is typically a problem with the service. We ordered fried pickles for starters, two beers for drinks, and two entrees. The fried pickles came after we had almost finished our entrees. They were quite cold like they had been sitting on the counter waiting to be served before the entrees came out. They delivered another starter to us meant for the person next to me. Then, they charged me for it. They also gave me some other person's bill that I gave back to them. Ten minutes after the movie they came back with my bill but had not removed the starter ordered by another person. Meanwhile, the person that ordered it was waiting for her bill. One last thing, don't order the beers that come in the 12 oz glass. It does not look like it could hold 8 oz. I was very happy with the theatre experience but the above issues have really turned me off to this location. read more

The theater its self is great, audio quality is on point. Not too loud and not too much bass. Food was delicious. The service on the other hand is not good at all. I got there after it became dark, and have never been there before. I didn't know I had to place my order ticket in a specific spot at the front of the tabletop (that when it's dark you can't even see)- I just put it standing tall where the blank order tickets are. The girl (who had already asked if we've ever been there before) got a tone with me about "put it here so I can see it better." Ok. Whatever. I ordered popcorn and fried pickles. The popcorn took around 10 min to come out; the pickles took probably 30-40 minutes. I actually had just written a new order ticket saying "I think the pickles were forgotten" and she walked up with them as I was putting that paper in the correct spot. By this time, my $4.50 "bottomless" drink was empty. It was 8:20pm. Never got a refill even though she walked by at least 3 more times before the movie ended 50 minutes later- I looked around, EVERYONE had empty glasses. Am I supposed to literally write an order every time I want a refill even though she can easily see the cup is empty? And each time the walk by, they're crouched over, but then they stop right in front of you in the same position, completely blocking your view until they do what they need to and move on. I like the other places where people actually squat to get out of your view when they have to stop at a customers table. I'll probably go back to give it another try; maybe it was just the server, and not the norm. read more

Group of 5 people, order was taken before the movie started. 3 people received their order roughly 20 mins after the movie started. The other 2 (I was one of the 2) never got our order. I was finally able to flag down a waitress to check on the order. She retook the order and 35 minutes later we finally got our food. Whenever I visit Denton for business, I come here and watch a movie to avoid the traffic. This is a nice movie theater. It's clean and the employees are generally friendly and willing to help you if you have questions. Last year, they gave free movies to teachers every Wednesday for a month.
