This has to be my favorite drafthouse that I got to visit because of a work trip. The chairs completely recline (unlike the Austin ones) and you have more room and table space between the seats. The one downfall I could find is that the truffle popcorn was a bit too salty. Otherwise everything else exceeded my expectations since I frequent the Austin ones at home. Luckily they had some of the vegan options I'm familiar with too! Great and attentive staff too with slips that explain how it works (also would be nice to have in Austin). read more

Surprised? I think not, considering it should be a 5 star from the other reviews I've seen. I just went to a Wed night flick and got the worst service of my life. I've been to the competitor and this theater and it's service just don't compare. Seats are soft but don't recline enough. Tables, locked in place and you share with your neighbor. You don't have your own table. It took 1.25 hours to get our food after 4 attempts to deliver food and drinks that we never ordered. The couple sitting next to us never got their food. For some reason popcorn and candy will get delivered within 15 min of ordering that but real food takes forever. Real food is lacking in quality, most of what we order was dry or tasteless. Bathroom sinks have super hot water if they are constantly used, be forwarned, you may burn your hands when washing up after someone else. No way to really flag a server down to find out where your order is. This "put the paper up at the end of the table" did NOTHING. I had to get up and go find someone 25 min into the movie just to find out where my drinks were. Staff are nice but 4 deliveries of water does NOT make up for never delivering the pop and shakes that we ordered to begin with 1 hour before. Will we go again, we think not. read more

I love it here! Theaters are clean and comfy and the servers are great. The food is my favorite part, I'm a vegetarian so it's pretty rare that I have enough great options that I struggle to choose what I want to eat. If I'm comparing, I would rather go to movie tavern. The seats at Alamo are smaller, the ordering system is just odd - you basically do it yourself by writing it on a paper? Maybe to encourage silence? Either way if I'm tipping you I want some words exchanged and you to ask what I want vs taking my own order and placing it in a slot (could just be me). Best place in town to see movies. Great variety of foods on their menu and quick service. The queso and chips are my favorite. They have deals for teachers over Spring Break and the Summer - just another reason to prefer them over other theaters. read more

The theatre is dark. Way too dark. You can't read the menu. You can't find your seat. You are supposed to write your order down on a piece of paper. While juggling your smartphone that you are using as a flashlight and trying to hold the menu write on this paper. It was a very unpleasant experience. I do not recommend. read more

Went there tonight with my boyfriend to see a movie. We both ordered food and he ordered their $14 "Fish & Chips" which came with fries and 2 small pieces of fish. As this was an expensive dish, we decided to ask an employee if that was the usual portion, to which we were told "it depends on the size of the fish pieces whether you get 2 or 3", i was not satisfied with this answer and also unsatisfied with the portion for the price. I decided to speak to a manager and he kindly removed the meal from our check, while I did appreciate his gesture of removing the meal from our bill, I do not think I will be returning to this place as I can get cheaper food at a restaurant and a movie for less than the total of $40 for tonight's visit. read more

I live the theater!!! The food is good, great selection of craft beer. The facility is extremely clean and the staff are friendly. The only thing stopping this from being 5 stars is the pre-movie entertainment. It is painfully awful!!! Seriously- it is so bad I want to stick a fork in my eye. Ok. So went back last night. The service was still great and the pre-movie entertainment was great. The downfall- the theater was so hot we were literally sweating. I didn't have a jacket or sweater, just a lightweight shirt and jeans, when we left the back of my shirt was literally wet. This was my 1st experience going to the new theater in Denton. So last night was date night for me and my lovely wife. Tuesday at Alamo theatre is $5 all day per ticket. Yes already started off in the plus column. We arrive about 50 minutes early to theater and it was easy to be checked in, because I purchased online 2 days before. Website very easy to move through. We couldn't enter the theater where our movie was showing until 30 minutes prior. My wife and I went to bar area which was very nice. We got menus and looked over food options. The waitress explained beer and drink options. Large tap area and my only disappointment was all these beers, but no regulars. Budweiser, Corona, ect.. Anyway we ordered Tacos since it was Taco Tuesday. The tacos were very good. We also purchased 1 beer and some popcorn during the movie. Popcorn was tasty but we had about 45% unpoped corn. The seats are very nice and reclined a big PLUS. The sound is the best experience. Very clean theathers. The workers here do a great job. All and all great movie experience but food and drink prices very high. No real deals except $5 Tuesday's to get you in the door. I would go again for sure, but eat before or after movie. Tried for the first time yesterday. Took 45 minutes to get a kids grilled cheese. They took my appetizer to the wrong person so I made them redo it instead of just handing it to me from a different table (gross!). people next to me were charged for food they didn't order. I saw another group requesting a manager on our way out. Picture quality was good. I find the table setup awkward though. Seats don't seem built for tall people the way the headrest landed when I did anything other than recline the whole way. Disappointing when you go for the experience and food in addition to the movie and two out of three fail. read more

Our first atrendance was this Sunday. We saw Jurassic World in IMAX. I reserve the right to update at a later time if experiences change. The food and service was good, and the seats were great as well. I love that they embrace Denton culture. They will have stiff competition with the Movie Tavern not too far away, and there are restrictions which may make many prefer the more laid back Movie Tavern, especiall with children....both have their perks, but Alamo Drafthouse wins out here because of better food and facility... read more

The menu is tasty and reasonably priced, the servers are considerate and efficient, and the silence policy makes for a fantastic movie watching experience every single time. They do not honor their own gift cards! Got my daughter one as a gift last Christmas for the Denton, Tx location and when she tried to use it she was told they cannot honor it there and go to a location 1 hour away. We love this place! We've been going to the Alamo in Richardson for years and I can't stress what a relief it was to know we'd be getting one a little closer to home! It's got all you'd expect from one of the best theater chains in the industry on top of adding a little extra Denton flair to it. We've seen all sorts of events or screenings of classic films in the time it's been open and we can't wait to keep coming back! Not to mention, the food is great! My wife claims it has some of the best gluten free pizza she's ever tasted and if you become a Rewards member they give you coupons and prizes that are actually valuable for regular film goers! Destiny is awesome!! Alamo is a must see for any true movie fan. My 15 y/o loves classic movies, so this has been a perfect opportunity to develop that love. Destiny has encouraged his love of movies and she's a god send for us as we encourage our boys' love of good movies. I'm still debating whether I'm a fan or not. I was super confused why an employee stopped us as we were rushing to try to find our seat and then realized he was there collecting tickets and showing you to your seat. The table configuration where the seats are is a bit odd. Easy to get into, but very awkward to get out of. I'm a flexible person and had a difficult time. I can't imagine how older or disabled patrons would manage. The food was absolutely amazing! We all loved everything. The ordering system, however needs a lot of work. You fill out a piece of paper which is near impossible to see in the dark and place it in a wood holder in front of you. No button to push. I wanted dessert and a refill and it sat up there for 20 min before it was seen. And it was only seen because they were bringing the tickets. I ordered a refill for my husband and myself and they only brought mine. I don't fault the server for not being able to see the tiny paper, but not being able to read it is a bit unsettling. So, to recap- great food, comfy seats, poor ordering system and questionable service. read more

Okay the food was good, the service was good.. the chairs don't recline as much as other places by what seemed to me to be a significant amount. I just feel like they took movie taverns concept and made it worse with the whole take this pen that doesn't work and this piece of paper and write your whole order down and stick it in this box and when someone's sees it they will come open the paper read the whole thing back to you. I've heard people for years rave about Alamo Drafthouse. We finally get one near by and all I can say is "I am thoroughly unimpressed." The screen quality and sound were excellent and that was about it. The reclining seats, were just actually seats where the legs go up but the back doesn't recline. The food was just okay and just barely okay, but small portions for the price. It took longer than expected to get especially being the early movie and small crowd in the theater. When walking out of theater one should be talking about the movie not complaining about the quantity and quality of the food and pricing. With all the theaters in town, I see no reason to come back to Alamo unless it for one of their special screening they do. read more

Two thumbs down! Where do I begin? Maybe I should borrow the note pad that I need to write down my order and all issues with from them. To begin, lighting before the movie is quite dim and difficult to read the menu; even with the awkward location, weak spot light. When you want to order, you write down everything for them. I even wrote our seat numbers for them, but continually our items (that comes out like a slow leak from the faucet) kept going to the couple next to us. Each time you need something - write another note, wait from someone to notice, and then proceed to wait and wait. I think I managed to write a small novel with all the issues. The chicken tenders were chewy and cheap, everything came out one thing at at time well into the movie when we ordered prior to the commercials starting, and it was expensive for the poor quality. When it came time for the bill; not surprisingly it was wrong - with the couple next to me order added to my bill. Insert another 3 love letters to return from war. ‍ Never one apology from the staff, but then again; I was running out of paper for them to respond. To boot, the seats were not that comfortable; the bathrooms were dirty; and there was no trash can to throw away my paper towel once I opened the bathroom door to exit. I will say that they did credit everyone's bill 25% since they are still in training, but not sure it would have been a financial equivalent to the time lost spent with this whole passing notes concept, the poor service, and questionable quality of food. Personally, I'm going to stick to Movie Tavern were I can just push a button and be done. read more

The tables are in your way to get to your seat and they are quite large and immutable. Once seated, you will find the seats are not as large and comfortable as they claim. Not if you are comparing these seats to the two other theaters in town with reclining leather seats. The Rules - I really don't like it when people talk or use their cell phones during a movie but what I care for less is having your neighbors police you. I have not seen this happen yet but I am sure it does. I wish they just would have stopped with the cute dinosaur warning and left it at that. The food - is really good. The service - is really good. The quality of the screen and sound - really good. Parking - really good. Atmosphere - Hipster movie cave. With all the goods this place has going for it, we will not be returning. We watched End Game tonight and ordered food. Movie, great. Food and service, bad. They didn't get the beer order correct. I told them that they brought the wrong beer. They said "no, that's the beer". We were a party of 4. Each person got their food, one at a time, not all together. Food was warm, not hot. Seemed pre-made. My daughter got her food after rest of us had finished. Ordered a couple of burgers. They were pre-shaped, not fresh ground meat, not well seasoned. They also gave my beer to my daughter who is not of age. Don't know how you make that mistake. read more

Very good food and excellent service. Had the hand-breaded chicken tenders and they were exceptional compared to AMC Dine-in. I am hard-of-hearing and commonly have difficulty getting accommodated at other major theaters. The staff seem well trained in handling accommodations and was promptly set up with a cc device. I enjoyed that there were no commercials before the previews, that short films were played instead. It made it seem that this theater chain actually cares about the customer experience rather than just making as much money as possible. Though I do not like all the old horror movie posters everywhere, the overall atmosphere was nice. Overall, an excellent movie experience. read more

First time to visit. Only went to movie, not bar. Comparing to Movie Tavern in town, i was not as happy here. Movie way too loud. Really! Loud is great but there is a too loud. Previews were mainly of 1980's show not something up coming except a few. We thought we were in the wrong show, as i was about to go ask, the lights went down and newer previews came on. My daughter had no idea what the shows were and commercials and thought it was all dumb. This was catered to older visitors. Ordering was not great. They walked by twice and finally 3rd time picked up order. Seating was nice but didn't like tables to eat at being so far away, still ended up using my lap instead. First and last time to Alamo Drafthouse... poor quality service at the bar before the movie and it continued during the movie at our seats. I was honestly very disappointed that the customers are responsible for writing down their own order... like hello servers, I'm paying you for what?? I'm here to enjoy the movie not be an employee. It's very lazy in my opinion. It's 2018, get some technology. Also, servers should be notified as soon as customers put their order in. They shouldn't have to walk around the movie theater checking if customers having their paper order up. This will improve the customers experience and help the servers utilize their time more effectively. Regarding the food quality... I only had the chips and salsa and I wasn't sure if the chips were stale or if it's just how they're suppose to be but I wasn't impressed. Saw da big show at denton today...great sony 4k laser projection.... in widescreen format... not as big as Dolby Cinema but just as good...Dolby Atmos was awesome....leather recliner seats do not vibrate to explosions... only downside was the seating is not really stadium style... I came here the week that it opened and I was excited. Overall it was a mediocre experience. We saw Jurassic world in the Big Show theatre and it was so loud that we almost had to leave the movie all together. It's kind of weird that they don't give you straws but I read online that it's how they are trying to do their part to save the world, so I think that's okay but I asked for a straw like the website recommends and after 35 minutes I finally just walked to the bar and got one myself. The food was good, my martini was great but too expensive. It was nice of them to give us 25% off since they were training but I was really dissatisfied with the service, nowhere near as good as Movie Tavern. But there seats are more comfortable and their food is better, I feel like their drinks are more expensive though. I will go back next Wednesday to see mission impossible and give it another go to see if my mind changes. read more

Who designed the theater setup?? Who puts lights under the table and expect you to eat blind? It is one thing when you only need one hand, but god forbid you need two or need to cut your meal to bite sized pieces!? Then the staff harasses you if you try to see your food with the glow of your phone's locked screen. Then there was the confusion of the check and if I was going to get my card back or someone else's. The staff was shuffling the checks under my table in the dim light and actually had to ask if it was my card. This brings all sorts of questions to my mind like, "Did they charge me the correct amount?" and "Why don't they carry PDAs and charge it while you can see?" read more
