We stopped by to see a friend play some live music and really like the vibe of this place. It's two stories, and the upstairs patio is an awesome place to hang out. The building has that old-school charm that makes it feel like it's been part of the neighborhood for ages. They've got daily specials all week long even on the weekends and the drink prices were super reasonable. Definitely a good spot for day drinking and relaxing with friends. As for the service, well it was slow. Not because the staff wasn't working hard, because they were, but they were clearly understaffed and maybe a little inexperienced. It wasn't wall-to-wall packed, but still things did take a while. Same with the food, everyone around us had ordered, and we could tell the kitchen was struggling. We later heard there was just one cook handling everything ,which explains the long wait. But the food is worth it. We had the beer cheese soup, grilled cheese, and some tots. Throw the tots in the soup, trust me on this one ! Simple but very delicious. The live music was also different, lots of variety and different bands of musicians rotating through with all kinds of styles. The old Cozy Oaks Pub finds new life, albeit with a name change that is actually a riddle that needs to be explained in English and that morphs into a great story of an original Denton cooperative venture that effectively divvies up the total beer drinking market and parcels out the earnings of each contributing venture and puts the whole complex beast into income silos, which in theory could be self sufficient and economically viable, stable and hopefully clever enough to make knowledge management a very positive thing in practice. I've lived a few miles from this place and didn't know it was there! It's on Sunset, which is a road not often travelled unless you're visiting a business a specific business there. A friend of mine took me there for lunch and it did not disappoint! I ordered the 2 Chucks BLT, so messy but so delicious! Very casual atmosphere and the staff was very attentive. I'll definitely be back as I'm interested to see what it's like during Happy Hour or on a Friday or Saturday evening as the setup is pretty nice with the upstairs and downstairs bar. This place is so hidden on Sunset, I was barely aware it existed! It's between a hair studio and Jasmines in that strip. I was running an errand nearby and hadn't had lunch, so I was starving! Since I was already in the parking lot, I figured greasy bar food sounded perfect and walked over. I walked in to a low key room with guys watching the game, the bar was to the left through a door. It is a good space with nice booths, several TVs and is very comfortable. The stairs to the upstairs patio are on the far left. Since the bar was filled with regulars I asked for a menu and contemplated the options at a table. Its mostly standard fare, but the selection was larger. Salads, pizza, burgers, sandwiches, wings with a lot of variety. I asked the bartender, Kristen, how long a to go order would take and since the pizza would be 20 minutes, and I was running on empty, I decided to get chips, salsa and a soda while I waited. The chips and salsa arrived a few minutes later and were a God send to my empty stomach! It was a large portion for $2! I enjoyed the chips: medium thickness, crunchy and not greasy- just the way I like them! The salsa had a lot of spices in it, but the consistency was a little watery. It had a lot of heat to it and I was glad to have a cold drink! The food arrived earlier than expected, about 15 minutes after I placed my order. Kristen was so attentive, bringing it out to me, offering to get me a to go cup and pack up the chips. She was a sweetheart! The Margherita Pizza for $8.49 was smaller than expected from the size of the box. It was a little larger than personal size in an oval shape, topped with breadsticks. It had a thin, crispy crust and my husband absolutely loved it. Well worth the price! I got the Sourdough Chuck for $8.49. It was good and greasy with fresh veggies on toasted sourdough with bacon, yum! They have plenty of burger options and this tasted good, but I would probably get a different one with a bun. The bread was a little too big for my chubby little kid hands, so a bun would be easier. The fries were hot and crispy with Cajun seasoning. It really hit the spot and was a great portion for the price point, I had half left over! The food and menu selection definitly exceeded my expectations for a bar! It was my oasis in the desert of hunger, and it sure delivered! Everything I had was tasty, atmosphere was great and it really seems like a cool, cozy spot to hang out. I like that I could tell there were so many regulars. I was only there for less than 20 minutes, but I will definitly be back! I still got to check out the patio and see their drink and game options. The fries are good, but 12 fries does not a side make. So why do I still go here? Because it's a great place to hide. Nobody you know goes here on a regular basis, unless they also want to hide. I would say it's a good place to watch a game, but sometimes the TV's are on the fritz and once there was a minor gay-bashing incident directed at my wife and a friend during a Cowboys game, but that has absolutely nothing to do with the bar or the bartenders and everything to do with this shitty group of patrons. Just, you know, be aware of who you're sitting next to. It gets kind of tight in there. Long story short, go if you must or you're within walking distance. Get the grilled cheese or the Crazy 8. My husband and I just moved down the street from this place. We were drawn to it by the nice second story porch. This is such a great watering hole, especially on that porch during sunset! The menu prices are very affordable! A pound of boneless buffalo for $8.99? I think I've found my weakness. The cheese fries are also pretty much the best thing ever (especially if you have had a few drinks). Speaking of which, the drink specials here are also wonderful. I've been coming to II Charlie's for about 3 years. I don't drink alcohol anymore, but II Charlie's Mushroom Swiss Burger is my favorite dish - anywhere. The staff is polite and attentive. When I did drink, my favorite drink was The Thing. A former bartender of II Charlie's told me about it. It became "my" drink. There are multiple television sets. A full lunch / dinner menu and daily food & drink specials. There's a semi-covered (not-tacky tarps) patio, upstairs. The jukebox and dart boards are upstairs, as well. I just learned about - and went to - Two Charlie's for the first time this afternoon, and I love it! I like the feel of the place, and it's true! You *can* have a good conversation in a bar!! Who knew?! The drink prices are great, and the price for the amount of food you get is awesome. I had nachos and they were WONDERFUL! The chips were fresh, the beans, cheese, tomatoes, and sour cream all had good flavor. The salsa was surprisingly fresh and flavorful - it caught me off-guard, particularly for a non-Mexican joint. Man, I wish they had fried pickle slices instead of fried pickle spears. Life would be complete, if only... I blew through 2 dirty martinis, and they were pretty good. I've definitely had my share of crappy martinis, so it's nice to find a place who can pull together a decent one. Service was good - I didn't go without, and my food and drinks were brought out in good time. Came here for the first time on a Saturday afternoon since moving to Denton. Definitely a chill place if you're looking to unwind after a busy day or just throw back a few beers. They have drink specials every day, plus trivia on Thursday nights & Bingo on Tuesday nights. Don't expect a bubbly waitress ready to smile & chat. Service is quick & to the point, but we never had an empty drink while we were there, so we remained happy. Plus, the drinks were pretty well priced. $3 for most beer on Saturday. We ordered chips & salsa, the buffalo chicken pizza and a few different local & craft beers. The chips & salsa look like your typical pub app, but the salsa was actually quite tasteful & spicy. The buffalo pizza was unique as it had mini boneless buffalo bites & bleu cheese on a (what seemed like) homemade thin crust. They also have an upstairs with another bar & the downstairs area looks like it fills quickly at night. Overall it's a nice, low key lunch option. Full disclosure: I know Charlie and Anessa, love them and think they are fantastic, good people. That said, these comments are genuine. I've been going here since it opened. It took a few years to find its groove, but it landed in a good place. Clientele is a mix of neighborhood folks and 20-somethings. In all the times I've been, most everyone is just out to relax and enjoy time away; have not seen the trouble that can sometimes dog a bar. 2C's is a basic bar. You won't see herbs growing on the bar, or a collection of floral mixers. I appreciate that type of repertoire, but it's not 2C's. This place has a small collection of basic beers on tap, about a dozen bottled, and a modest selection of liquor for basic straight/soda/juice drinks. Nothing wrong with that, just don't expect magic. That said, drinks are well prepared; these people are skilled. The first floor of this 2-story is a small seating area and six (?) person bar. Upstairs is a larger bar, more indoor seating and a lovely patio. When it's not Texas hot, it's a great place to relax or to sit with groups. To a person, their bartenders are regular, decent people, generally 30ish, and provide excellent service. If I were to make one recommendation, it would be to limit or kill their drinking shots with customers, but I say that more as a business person than a patron. With Denton becoming an "IT" place, 2C's is one of the few places you can still get a great deal. Last weekend I enjoyed $3 "Crown and Down" drinks and a $5 burger. It's becoming harder to find such deals. For Barley and Board-type place that opens, fewer happy hour places exist. If one more person tries to tell me that 50 cents off my $10 wine is happy hour, I am going to stroke. Food is generally bar food, but there are some nice surprises. My quest for burgers continued after having a 2C burger. It's good, don't get me wrong, but its like a lot of places that serve thin patties. Further, it's frozen, not fresh, which dulls flavors a bit to my taste. Love the homemade chips, but wish they were a bit thicker link Loophole (his other place). The Ahi tuna sandwich is a surprise, a great taste and affordable. A good selection of salads, apps and sandwiches round things out, and prices are more than reasonable. I stop here often to grab dinner. 2Cs has that intangible that bars and restaurants strive and generally fail to achieve. I welcoming, friendly vibe permeates the place. I love to talk to new people but often struggle to get things started. More often than not, 2Cs people just reach out and say hello. It is rare that i don't leave the place with a smile. It's in kind of an odd place - Sunset, adjacent to University Drive, across from Kroger complex - but its worth the trip. read more
