As far as the movie theater part of the business, it was just fine. The experience was actually pretty good, as this business gives stern warning about the dire consequences of talking or using your cell phone to text or chat during the movie. It's nice to be able to sit and just watch a movie without having to deal with people texting or having a conversation on their cell phone. Seats were of good size and comfortable. The table between the two chairs was quite small and very awkward to eat from. The food, on the other hand, left much to be desired. My burger had a large, stale bun that overpowered the rather small beef patty. All I could taste was bread. My wife bought an omnivore pizza that had so many strongly flavored onions on it that the other ingredients were totally undetectable. Normally I'd just pick off the extras, but keep in mind it is dark and you really can't see your food. French fries were excellent, but I would have liked more than one packet of ketchup, and it's not a setup which makes it easy to get a waiter's attention. Fried pickles were also very good, but $7.50 for six fried pickle spears seemed a little pricey. All in all, for a meal for two that cost $50 before tip, I was totally underwhelmed. Our server was quick and efficient, as well as personable. Our food got to us in a reasonable amount of time. It would be nice if after the movie they would turn up the house lights so you could see your bill and be able to figure out how much to tip. If I were to go back I would order the bottomless popcorn and a soda and skip the food. My suggestion would be to have your meal at a quality restaurant and then go here to see the movie. Rating this as an eating establishment only, I would give it one star, and as a movie theater, 4 stars. As a hybrid of both, I could only give it two stars. read more

The quality of the movie and food was 5 stars, but I had to take two stars off because of the service. Our server, a very nice gentleman who gave useful recommendations, was fine. However, after asking around I found out that the "support" staff, the employees delivering the food and drinks, were downright rude. I'm sorry that my refill is a "waste of time" because it's water. I filled out an order card twice in the middle of the movie requesting a refill and a worker-not the server-who picked up our card-gave a mean look in my direction and my order was never delivered. The second time a different food runner gave another rude look when he saw my card, and I was not wrong in believing I would yet again not get my rather simple order. My husband and I recently moved to LBK from Austin and we were ecstatic to see an Alamo had come to town. We lived near the original ATX location and went frequently. We received sub par service at the LBK location. We expect WAY more from the Alamo name. The waitstaff needs to spend some time with seasoned Alamo employees. ALSO, don't take kids under 3 to this theater. The 2nd time we visited we tried. They won't let you in. We figured they might let us in at the matinee with my 5 yr old and 8 month old. They turned us away at 2:00 pm with a totally empty theater. I guess rules are rules but maybe they should learn their demographic. read more

Great place to go see a movie at, the tickets are fairly inexpensive and they also have a lot of different events going on at the theater. The seating is also fairly comfortable with great elbow room. They also do a lot of things with students which is a big plus. Only downside is the food is ok at best and is a bit overpriced. read more

Love that you reserve your seats and the food is great but my lanta it costs and arm and a leg! Be prepared to pay a lot if you decided to dine and drink. Even their soft drinks are about $5 a piece. All in all great place and environment but very pricey. read more

When visiting my daughter and her husband in Lubbock, they took us to Alamo to catch a movie. We went on Monday July 3rd at the 4 pm showing. They were not very busy at all, I think there were maybe 15 people tops in our theater. We got there early enough and ordered food drinks and popcorn. The popcorn was good, just not enough in the bowl, and had to keep requesting more. After 2 small refills I just gave up. My daughter ordered loaded fries. They looked amazing, but no fork. Asked for a fork and waited and waited and waited.... server came by with one of our drinks and no fork. My daughter finally gave up and ate the fries cold at that point with her fingers.... the fries were cold and just blah at that point. Service was not up to par that day at all. Nothing was served at the same time... everything came in dribs and drabs.The worst part was the ladies restroom. Visited the restroom before the movie started, and again after the movie was over. Both times it was DISGUSTING. I won't go into details, other than to say it was one of the dirtiest restrooms I had ever been in.... like super gross. Not sure how it could be so dirty for so long. I would think they would check the condition of the restrooms on a regular schedule. Not that day obviously. My daughter and her husband are regulars to the theater and were just as disappointed with the visit as we were, they were a bit embarrassed to have taken us there, and kept assuring us that that was not the norm for Alamo. read more

Three stars because I love the atmosphere Alamo provides for the moviegoers, otherwise it would be one star. Service here is a joke, not sure I'd even call it "service". Every time I've been I either wait forever for my ordered items or I never get them at all. I try to arrive early to all the movies I want to see to get a drink at the bar before sitting down, because if you order a drink from your seat you have to wait until a half hour into the show to get it. Same goes for food, if you don't sit down and order quick you may as well not even bother. The kicker though is every time I order an entree, without fail, I don't receive it but am charged for it anyway. This would only be an annoyance, but because I have to try and communicate with the server in the dark via whispers it's just lunacy. I'll still go to Alamo because it's the best moviegoing experience in town and the prices are fair, but that's all that can be said about it. In every other realm it's mediocre at best. read more

Do not eat here!!! My boyfriend and I decided to try out this theater, hoping for much better quality. We sat in theater 1 and saw the movie The 5th wave. We ordered the Burger, and the Filly Cheesesteak. We went in to the movie feeling great. We were having a great night, but after our food set in towards the end of the movie we started feeling terrible. The food made us super sick, we are now laying in bed with food poisoning. Don't not eat here... The food was terrible and not worth the price to begin with. I could go to a fast food restaurant and get better quality food. We have always loved Alamo Drafthouse. We visit several times a month. But this time was disappointing. Ordered two drinks and hummus and only received one drink for the entire movie. It was a refillable drink and no one ever came by or we would have mentioned the missing food and other drink. Might as well go to a regular theater. :( read more

I have been a regular customer at this theatre since they opened and it has been continuously terrible service. I have wanted to like this theatre because I love the idea and they do actually have good food, but the manager is terrible and most of the staff is ill-trained. The last straw and worst experience I have had was this last time I went. I went to a late showing of Finding Dory and the whole theatre had to sit and wait for our checks for 20 mins after the movie because they only had one girl working that theatre. When the girl did not come to give us the checks, we had to begin a line outside the theatre to get our checks taken care. There were several customers who did not get what they ordered at all. I then expressed the situation to the manager and he did not even apologize, he simply said "thanks for letting me know" and went back to his office. My friend then went to complain as well and there was a line outside his door and he had locked it and would not answer. He basically dismissed the situation and would not deal with the upset customers. I would recommend blocking off a lot of time if you're going to this theatre because it will take forever and you will most likely not be compensated for terrible service. I went to the this theater this afternoon with my husband. An extremely rude manager informed us we were talking loud and there is no talking. He said this was our warning and next time we would be told to leave. I was never even given the opportunity to explain we were not talking. This would have been difficult since my husband slept 85 percent of the movie. I will never visit this theater again! read more

Love the concept! We attended the Master Pancake performance of Back to the Future. Austin comedians riffed on the movie and were hilarious. We don't get a lot of live comedy in Lubbock so this show was refreshing. I haven't seen Back to the Future on a big screen since it was first released, so that was great. We also saw The Grand Budapest Hotel in one of their smaller theaters and I felt like I was in my own private screening room because the theater only had 3 rows of seats and was very intimate. And even though the theater was small, the screen was large and the image was bright and crisp and the audio very clean. However, the Spider-Man 2 3D seemed dim. Much different from Captain America 2 3D we saw a few weeks earlier at the IMAX Premiere Cinema. There's a Drafthouse article that actually mentions dim lighting issues here: http://drafthouse.com/blog/entry/agreeing_and_disagreeing_with_roger_ebert_on_dim_projection but I'm not sure if this applies to the Lubbock theater - cuz this Spider-Man movie would've been aptly named after its Broadway counterpart - Turn Off the Dark! If you want to watch 3D - stick to the other theaters - Premiere or Cinemark 16. Other than that, I'm excited to see more classic movies here. You can purchase tickets and choose seats online for $1.50 per ticket service charge. They do reserved seating. Or you can purchase advanced seating at the theater's Box Office or ticket terminal for no extra surcharge. There's no need to camp out to be the first in line to see X-Men - you buy your seats just like concert tickets. There's a bar at the front so you can get properly sloshed before the movie. You can also take drinks into the theater AND order drinks once INSIDE the theater. The food and service was hit and miss. Food during training week was half-price so we tried a lot. What stood out most were appetizers and dessert cookies - pretzels were soft and huge, fried pickle spears - crunchy and delicious. The hot wings arrived late and was cold and soggy. Their entrees consisted of typical bar food - burgers, wraps and pizza. No pasta, no tex-mex finger food, like quesadillas or taquitos, no soups and nothing with sauces. It's different from the Austin Drafthouses I'm familiar with but that was several years ago, and perhaps they modified their menus to comply with the franchise-ification of their business. Their burgers were huge, but seemed heavy and dry. I think the cooks press down on the meat patties squeezing the moisture and juiciness out rendering them hockeypuck-ish. The fries with my burger were cold, though the Loaded Fries I ordered as an appetizer was hot and delicious. Surprisingly, the pizza was Very Good! The crust was crisp and tastes like it was cooked in a brick oven, though I'm sure they don't have one of those. I've tried their version of a meat lover's pizza, and their chicken chorizo pizza which came with fresh cilantro on top - both fantastic. A margherita pizza would've been perfect with their crust but I didn't see that on the menu. They missed an opportunity during a NYFCS screening of Chef. Back in the pre-franchise Austin heyday, they would've taken advantage of tying in the menu with food scenes from the movie. Chef the movie prominently featured Cuban sandwiches and beignets - simple dishes which could've been included in the menu as Chef Specials. Wouldn't it have been awesome if during the beignet scene, waiters brought out complimentary beignets? I was drooling for one of those donuts during that scene. They use fresh melted butter for their popcorn but I don't think they use clarified butter. Melted straight butter separates and creates layers of milk solids, butterfat and water. The water in melted straight butter made my popcorn taste wet and watery and and the milk solids clumped the popcorn in lumps at the bottom of the bowl. Real butter might sound like a selling point but don't ask for butter when you order popcorn. I understand that servers have to be unobtrusive to avoid interfering with the movie, so they tend not to pre-bus dirty plates from tables. However, a theater full of people and half-eaten food made for some funky and unusual smells, especially when it seemed that their air had poor circulation. These theaters were WARM! Usually theaters are freezing cold and perhaps they had their air turned up so that food don't cool down as fast, 'cuz man was that theater ripe! This wasn't a one time thing, we've been there a bunch already. Friends that were with us said they were sweating. It's as humid as Houston on a hot humid night. I'm sure they'll get their kinks worked out. I'll keep going there. They've been open for only a few weeks and where else can you watch Raiders of the Lost Ark or The Three Amigos on a big screen. I just saw Star Wars episode 8; The Last Jedi tonight at this Alamo Drafthouse. Let me say I am completely disgusted with the service and cleanliness of this theater. Me and my friend had two separate seats and called before the show to see if we could move our seats together. The receptionist over the phone assured us that our seats could be moved when we arrived. When we get to the theater, we ask a server if we are allowed to change our seats and he completely blows us off offering no help and directing to the front desk. At the front desk, the man there was equally unhelpful, saying he was not allowed to change our seats due to "company policy." When I questioned him further about this so called policy, he cut me off mid-sentence and tried to pass me off to a manager. We then told him about our call to the theater earlier and he then admitted that he was allowed to change our seats 15 minutes after the show started. So right there, three separate employees lied to me and my friend, just because they didn't want to help us move our seats. We went into the theater and took our original seats believing we could move after the fifteen minute mark. Five minutes after lights go down, we see our server give the seats we wanted to other customers.On top of that, my order was never taken by a server, I had to pass a note to a food runner just to get a drink. I paid for an exceptional dinning and movie experience and got nothing but lies and inconvenience. I will never be returning to any Alamo Drafthouse or recommending it to a friend. read more

This place is ran so poorly, the last few times in it takes 20 mins just to get an order in and over a hr to get food. It was all a wonderful experience! It's not been open very long in Lubbock, Texas and my boyfriend and I have been twice now! The first time we started off with drinks in the bar (the lady working was very nice). We had already ate so we did not eat during the movie but after it was over and we left we both agreed that we needed to go back and eat dinner there another night. The next time we went we purchased tickets online since we figured out how the floor plan worked and it was awesome being able to do that online! For dinner we ordered a pizza and a coke float to go along with it! It was yummyyy!!! The workers are super friends and very helpful! I would recommend Alamo to any one for a date night! read more

This is a GREAT concept, but is BY FAR THE SINGLE WORST MOVIE EXPERIENCE I'VE EVER HAD!!! We get there 20 minutes early and pick our seats - very dumb rule for a 30 seat theater. The seats are WAY too close together. I am a large woman and my husband is large too. There were 8-10 people in the theater, with all but two on the back row. Yes, I know we could have exchanged our seats, but really! by the time we did that the movie would have started. So we both sat scrunched up with people on either side of us. While I didn't like it, this part was our choice. We could have moved after the movie started, but chose not to. HOWEVER... We tried looking at the ONE menu. I decided on a milkshake, and DH chose a drink as well. We put up our little sign. Waitresses came and went but it was a full 10 minutes before someone came and got our order, by which time we added popcorn and hubby got a sandwich and fries. A full 30 minutes later we got our drinks. Ten minutes later hubby gets popcorn and sandwich. 30 minutes later I order a soda and some fries and notice DH hasn't touched his sandwich, bit I can't ask him what's wrong for fear that the movie nazi's will give us das boot. About 30 minutes later I get my soda and another 15 minutes for my loaded fries. I got silverware but dropped the fork before using it. So then I had to figure out how to eat messy fries without a fork, while contorting my arms and torso to limit spillover and without thw use of my right arm as it is wedged against DH. I was somehow successful in eating most of my fries without spilling any on me, and managed to not intrude on the guy to my left. About 15 minutes later the waitress comes with the bill - $45!! The food was good, but not THAT good. And since it was impossible to see the menu in the dark, we were more than a little surprised. After everyone else left we were able to get up without that bull in a china closet feeling. I asked DH what was wrong with his sandwich. He said, I couldn't eat it without risking it spilling all over me - that is if I could move my arms to hover over the plate, which I couldn't. The movie was good and the shorts, but IF you go, skip the concessions and use the money to buy seats on either side of you! Not only will we never return, but I have told friends and family to not go as well. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!! read more

This place was VERY disappointing- SERIOUSLY BAD. The bartender and waitstaff were nearly incompetent and just continued to laugh at there mistakes. The movie itself was fine, except for the NOT WATCHING it part when I had to figure out what random thing the waiter charged/served us (that took awhile). It turns out reading menu items verbatim was not his strength. I have been a vegetarian (eats no meat) for 3+ years. We let the waiter know this, but the waiter still decided to change the order from "goat cheese, basil, and tomato calzone" to "brussels sprouts, bacon and goat cheese pizza" only make it into a calzone. I didn't notice the difference and figured it was a just a "really bad calzone" and ate it (this is the sad part) . When I FINALLY got things cleared up with the waiter he simply laughed and said sorry. The manager compensated us for just the calzone. Thanks???? We could barely make it home without me getting sick...and now I have a date with the toilet. DON"T EVEN BOTHER WITH THIS PLACE (we recommend the drive-in)! read more

First and last time I will EVER go to Alano Drafthouse. From the moment we walked in our server was rude. She asked us if it was our first time and we said yes. Mind you its my husband, my 6 year old daughter, and me. She never explained how things worked and so every time we wrote something down it would take at least 20 mins. My daughter asked for extra butter and or course when the popcorn finally came it was so dry we didn't eat it. Then I asked for a small side of melted butter another 30 mins. We ordered entrees at the very beginning my husbands salad came after 20 mins but my loaded fries never did. I wrote on a paper where the fries were and the server proceeds to get in an argument with we that I never wrote them down. Then says I'm gonna go grab the ticket and show you and storms off. Magically she comes back with my loaded fries and says they take 15 mins in the oven even though I had waited an hour already. All of this going on during the Annie movie. I said you suck and she turns around and says she's gonna go get the manager to kick us out. By this point I'm furious and walk out to talk to him myself. The manager comes up and I explain the story to him and at first acts like he's gonna make it right. I go back to my seat to try to enjoy the movie and after about 30 mins the same server walks by and "accidentally" dumps a soda all over my feet and purse and floor and never cleaned it up. I walked back out to tell the manager and he has the nerve to tell me she's upset to. He also said for us to go to the front and see him after the movie. After the movie my husband is furious and he's carrying my daughter who fell asleep. We go up front like the manager said and he walks by and tells another employee where's my envelope that's for them and walks off rudely. My husband follows him in the bar area and says he feels like he doesn't care how we were treated because he didn't even have the common courtesy to speak to us and apologize like a manager should. His response I don't know what you want sir, I comped your meal! How bout some respect and remorse. Horrible terrible experience that had me crying after I was so mad. read more

Alamo is first and foremost a movie theater. The picture and sound are excellent. They take a no nonsense approach to disruptions...texting and talking are not allowed. I love that! The pre-movie show is worth getting there early for as it is extremely entertaining and creative. If, however, you are running late and miss the pre-show, no problem because you can reserve your seat in advance. The quote alongs and sing alongs are a lot of fun, and keep an eye out for your old favorites...I'm taking my mother to see My Fair Lady on Sunday. The food is good and the service is in no way a distraction. We often go to the first show of the day and enjoy brunch. Give Alamo a try. You won't be disappointed! read more

After a great experience I had in Austin, Texas at Alamo drafthouse. I was expecting nothing less in Lubbock, Texas. I was wrong. We were one of the first ones in the theatre, first to order... Everyone around us got drinks and food before us. I went to ask about our order. After asking employee after employee no one had any idea what was going on. Honestly this is usually my favorite place, go at least once a month for the special screenings. Love the buy one get ones I receive, love the atmosphere and the menus apps and drinks. BUT the past two times I've gone have me wondering if this is my favorite place anymore based on service alone. The Alamo Drafthouse in Lubbock is pretty good. I'm from Austin where the Alamo Drafthouse originates and this location meets the standards of the original. If you buy tickets at the location instead of online you can get a student discount which is always nice. The staff has always been friendly to us when I have gone with friends. The movie tickets are about your average price at $10, $8.50 if you have the student discount. However, the food is overpriced. The food is still pretty good at the Alamo but it's not worth what you pay for it. The theaters are small in terms of seating but the sound and screen size are pretty good. The chairs are very comfortable and are great for eating and watching a movie. I'd definitely recommend the Alamo Drafthouse for anyone. read more

The movie was good, the seating was good & and the food was ok if youl like eating in the dark. I dont know if it was the movie ( X-Men in 3D ) but it was so dark I couldnt tell where my hamburger or fries were on the plate .... then instead of putting mustard (like I requested) on my burger they sent out a packet after forgetting it the first time. Ever try to open a pouch of mustard and smear it on a bun in the dark with no knife, fork, or spoon? lol I understand what they are trying to do but a little light in the theater whould be sooooo much better.... we wont be back. read more

While the seats are comfy, the ticket prices, poor service and inconsistent food don't make it worthwhile. I've been to the Alamo Drafthouse four times. The $6 popcorn was burnt on one occasion, the wrong orders have been delivered on two different occasions, the $12 mini pizza was phenomenal one night and cold another. The $5 chocolate milkshake was super chocolaty one night and very plain another night. At my most recent experience, the service was so slow half of the checks were not picked up until after the credits had already started rolling and I was forced to wait in the theater for 10 minutes after the movie ended to sign my bill and have my credit card returned. This theater isn't living up to the hype. I don't think I'll be returning for a fifth visit. read more

The theater is fairly easy to find but parking is limited. Was nearly dead inside as soon as we walked in (surprising for a Friday night). Bought our tickets from the kiosk/screens instead of waiting in the only line open. We watched a special screening of 'Little shop of Horrors' and were so excited. The concept of dinner and a movie is cool but they haven't thought the layout through. The server was very polite and explained how to order. Our theater held about 65 seats and there were only about 24 of us total. I'm guessing the servers are trained to pick up orders during the movies while hunched over to prevent blocking the screen but all the while stomping their feet as they huddle by... each time an order is placed. This was distracting especially sitting in the center of an isle with only one side opening. I bought tickets for another special screening next week (before we had attended this viewing) and this theater holds over 200 seats so I'm wondering how chaotic the service will be then. The popcorn and drinks are bottomless but the popcorn was very soggy and hardly worth the price. We actually felt hesitant in placing our drink refill order -- we didn't want to disturb the patrons that sat in our isle but couldn't help it-- not for the prices they charge. The previews before the movie are old 80's commercials and vintage movie trailers- which was awesome! Being an adult only atmosphere was another great concept but should be restricted to 21 and over- we sat behind the most 'energetic' high school kids ever which continued to make distracting faces/noises, at each other, whenever certain parts of the movie played-- Overall, we were glad to say we tried it and that the Alamo has such awesome special screenings but we would rather pay the cheaper early bird prices at any of the other theaters and wait 2 weeks from opening day on certain releases to ensure an almost empty theater and much more enjoyable experience. read more

Honestly was impressed with this place. Download the app first and purchase your tickets from there. You get to select which seats you want in the theater which is really nice. We were in 3rd row and in most theaters you wouldn't be able to see but here you are far enough back that you can see just fine. We orders the chips and queso to start with it was amazing some of the best queso I have ever had. I ordered the pepperoni pizza for my dinner and the pizza is top notch very tasty and a good serving size. My wife ordered the breakfast tacos and they were disgusting. Do not get those breakfast tacos they did not taste good at all. Other than that the place was clean. You walk in the front door and right to your theater if you already purchased your tickets. The tickets are super cheap we paid like $7.50 each per ticket which is an amazing deal Compared to most movie theaters. We will for sure be back to this place. read more

My wife and I go to the movies a couple times a month we went to the drafthouse when it first opened and it was great! We enjoy drinking at the movies, the bottomless popcorn, and the decently priced tickets. Now not so much, less than a month later the place went down hill. I can recall at least 3 times when my order was seen and totally ignored. We went for my wife's birthday and they closed early due to rough weather which is understandable. what blows my mind is there was no sign on the door, no anything. my wife had to call to find out that they only posted it on Facebook. The whole staff (including the managers) care nothing for their customers, I have family in Austin and they've never had problems like this at the drafthouse. I downloaded this app just so I could write a bad review, and I don't normally write reviews. I will conclude my review with this fun little story., V for Vendetta is my favorite movie they show it on Nov 5th what a cluster f***. We ordered we got our popcorn and drinks and we were happy, but then we tried to reorder, 10 minutes passed, 15 minutes, 20 minutes, and then almost 30 minutes later the waiter showed up just to scoff at the fact that we wanted something. Not only did I not get what I ordered but on my way to the bathroom I saw the waiter eating in the back, of course he didn't notice me. Alamo drafthouse is the best theater in town, but the staff makes it suck. The concept of the Alamo Draft House Cinema is amazing and have had great experiences in many other cities. As usual though Lubbock could screw up an anvil with a rubber mallet. Our 1st visit there was great, Nothing but rave reviews. As for the last 4 movies we have watched there, not so much. Their staff either lost any passion for their jobs or are so over worked because they are understaffed. After meetings with the management two times about concerns you can tell they could care less about the operation of the theater and the performance of their staff. When you ask to speak with one they are either to busy putting out fires or are hiding. The Lubbock location is a disgrace to the Alamo Draft House name. The failure starts with owner/management who seems to not care when valid issues are brought to their attention. Most complaints I have read about this location are the same. I keep going back in hopes that they have worked to improve the customer experience or possible employee issues. Today 11-14 I went to watch FURY and though the movie was great the experience was a complete disappointment. Someone needs to do something before they ruin the best theater lubbock has. read more
