I like this bar. It has interesting customers and the bartenders pour a decent drink. The bar food is good and they have dart boards and pool tables. The saloon is non-smoking but the bar side is for smokers. I have never stayed for karaoke but i have been told it is fun. read more

I went there with my younger sister, she just turned 21 and I wanted her to try your chocolate martinis. She went to the restroom and when she came out your manager, Adam accused my younger sister of doing coke and that she had been there several times and recieved several complaints saying she's been doing coke. This is her first time and she was underage before, so I don't see how it's possible for her to keep coming to this bar for drinks unless your serving underage girls. He refused to explain and automatically got on the phone to call the cops, I didn't yell or was I belligerent. This is crazy, I only wanted my younger sister to taste something sweet since she's not use to alcohol and care for bitter drinks. read more

A person from work recommended The Gaslight as a place where I could eat and drink and most importantly smoke a cigar, lakeside. So, a few observations: One, there is no "lake" per se. It's urban, behind a strip mall, and looks more like a small retention pond. So no "lakeside" experience. Strike 1. So, I'm game for a cigar and a beer. Beer menu - nothing local. At all. And no tap system. At all. Can't say I've ever been to a liquor bar with no taps, and it sucks to have a great local craft beer scene and not carry even a single can. Strike 2. So, commercial beer and a good cigar firmly in hand I'm settling in on the patio. Where the music is loud. Like, ear-splitting. Asked the server if it could be turned down. Response: "well we can't turn it down unless we turn it down inside, and it's not loud in there". Strike 3. I'll finish my cigar, have two commercial beers, and not come back. Moral of the story... if you're looking for a place with cheap bottom shelf drinks, loud music, bill of cigarette smoke inside and a drainage pond view outside, this is your jam! Atmosphere: inside is a a complete smokers lounge since they do allow smoking inside the building. Outside, smoking is allowed as well but luckily when I was there with my coworkers, no smoked around us. The outside patio overlooks the small lake-pond-body of water and has a very serene and chill atmosphere. Service: our lady servers were great. They were very quick with our drink orders as well as our food. Food: I got the philly cheese steak panini with fries and coworker got bacon avocado chicken panini with fries (i think..). My philly cheese steak panini was awesome. It came out hot with lots of meat and ooy gooy cheese! And the fries were crispy and hot as well. My coworker also really enjoyed her panini. Best patio in town! The staff is super friendly and the cheesesteak panini is fantastic! The mini burgers are also very good. I've seen a few negative reviews about GL being a smoking bar. Honestly it's one of the many reasons I go there. There are a ton of non smoking bars people can go to, but not many you can still smoke at. I choose to smoke and I choose to go to smoking bars. Caprock Cafe is just down the street, it's also fun and smoke free. Terrible when some one is playing music, I support local music, but Gas Light is a terrible place for it!!! I usually leave as soon as people start playing. Terrible decision on managements part! I actually take a star away because of the music. read more

The smell of smoke is just overwhelming. We chose to sit outside in the cold rather than endure the clouds of smoke. This seems like the place for older people to go!? Our server was friendly though. The patio is pretty cool, wish Lubbock would pick up the trash in the pond. Seems a shame to let it look gross. I really wish they would pass an ordinance for non smoking bars. read more

The only waitress on duty mistook change on the our table for what we were paying her in tips, and proceeded to tell us how it's "ok that you're (we) poor because you're (we) all just a bunch of children." I pointed out her mistake, and she immediately began to tell us all to "never come back to my (her) bar again" though after talking to the manager, that was not the case. Before all of this, one bartender asked how we were paying for our drinks multiple times as well. "With money" was the answer. Regardless of the wrong drinks being served, and the tabs being mixed between the wrong people, everyone was going to tip. There was only ONE bartender for the whole place, and she would've gotten her tips (there were 6 of us with separate tabs) had she not incorrectly assumed something and treated us like absolute shit. Nobody I know will be returning. We will not be returning. We understand this may have been some sort of anomaly, but the behavior we had to receive was absolutely intolerable. P.S. I don't use Yelp. I really wanted to like this place. Pros: The crowd was lively and somewhat fun to watch. The live music was a nice touch and helped it earn its third star. The drinks were good and reasonably priced. From what I could see, the staff was attentive to the customers and gave good service. An attractive woman, who was at a table with her friends, gave me her beer to try. That was my highlight. Cons: Lubbock needs to get the smoking is bad for your health memo. The bar had a cloud of smoke that seemed to hang over the ceiling and everyone young and old seemed to enjoy lighting up. The staff smokes, everyone smokes...When in earshot of the bar, I could hear the staff complain about their customers. That is normal, but just tiring. Final thoughts: this is Lubbock and I try not to have any preconceived notions of what they might do for fun in this town. For Lubbock, this bar should probably be rated at 4-5 stars. I guess I had higher expectations based on the reviews that I read before I tried the bar. The place was not bad and had a warm inviting atmosphere. I'm just trying to adjust to Lubbock's smoking policy and I don't think I ever will. read more

This is the best place in Lubbock to go, have a drink and be able to have an actual conversation with your friends. They have a great patio with heaters for the cooler evenings, a nice long bar inside, couches, tables and even a private room that you can reserve. The atmosphere is very laid back and "dark" with candles and a few lamps for lighting. It rather reminded me of a coffee shop the first time I went in. The prices are a bit more than most of the other places in Lubbock, but then, I believe you get what you pay for! read more

OK, I have to admit, The Gas Light is pretty cool. It's one of those kind of 'fancy' places, where everyone likes to go and pretend they are in a 'real' big city, but if you can put that aside it is pretty fun. There is a patio that overlooks a little patch of water, which is pretty nice, and the drinks are alright. They usually have some special or another going on, so you don't have to drop a crazy amount of cash. I think maybe one night that have two three dollar Crown or something like that. The bartenders are really chill, too. One cool thing about it - now, I'm not totally sure if they still do this - is that they have live music every now and then. I went one night and they had this guy on a keyboard that was just hilarious. You can even make a fool of yourself and go up and sing with him. It was a great atmosphere and a really fun place to sit and have a drink, but the bartenders between 9-10pm (Thursday, March 3) seemed lazy. I never usually leave such an ugly review, because I am in the industry myself. I try to be as generous with my reviews as possible. The bartenders were not attentive. We got cut off after 30 minutes of ordering only 3 drinks (each), and one of the drinks was not finished because my husband didn't like how sweet it was. When we ordered one more drink to make up for it, one of the bartenders made it a huge deal. Seemed to me like he didn't appreciate how quickly we ordered the next drink. He served us water. Told us 3 drinks in 30 minutes was too much, and that we needed to "chill out". I've never been told that three drinks in 30 minutes was too many drinks. TABC doesn't even require a cut off like this, unless you're causing a scene and appear too drunk to operate a vehicle. For two parents, who never go out and were literally just enjoying time spent talking quietly together after a stressful month, this made us feel horrible. Great place, seems fun and we would like to go back. But nowhere near the experience we would've enjoyed with the two bartenders who would glance at our empty glasses and continue to talk to only the two same people at the bar for basically the entire time unless I stared them down. read more

My friends & I drink here often. It's my boyfriend's favorite place. The food is all done rather well, which is awesome for a bar!! They have whiskey flights that are well priced and make you feel very suave. I think that's such a refreshing option for a bar to have in a small ~city~ The mixed drink options are really good, and they have both interesting craft beers and basic bro beers. I was really hoping for an even somewhat classy place to enjoy a drink at in Lubbock. I hoped for too much, clearly. All this place is missing are the pool tables to complete it's ambiance. They tried really hard with updating the furniture and the indoor decor to make it seem like a classy place, but their clientele are all low brow 50+ year old's. The patio is the only place where you can remotely breathe and there are still chain smokers out there. The "sangria" tastes like cheap communion wine and is just plain *disgusting*. It tastes absolutely nothing like sangria. Save yourself the stomach ache and wasted money ($7.50); go to United, buy a bottle of Eppa Sangria to enjoy at home and thank me later. The mixed drinks, on the other hand, are pretty decent though they are a little overpriced when compared to the average prices for the Lubbock area. Unlike the comments from the other reviewers, there is one thing I DO disagree with them on and that is the service. Service was great! Couple friends wanted to hang and have a late night snack when we found this place on Yelp. The place may be open till 2am but the kitchen closes at midnight. We decided to stay and just relax even though we were hungry, but weren't disappointed. Overall not bad. Drinks are great. Bartender is amazing with mixing drinks. Waitress.... not so much. She was very sweet at first and I was gonna leave a $20 for a tip but decided not to after she sort of stopped waiting on us and walked past us multiple times. Me and my friend also felt the weird aggression after a while. I'm assuming she was overwhelmed with the amount of tables she got... which is completely understandable. HOWEVER!!!! Doesnt look like much from the outside, but the inside is beautifully decorated and sophisticated. Don't miss Kyle Abernathy performing... he is great! One of my favorite places in Lubbock to go with friends for a casual, easy night out. It's quiet, usually not crazy or crowded, and has a really nice (pretty, even!) patio that I love to sit out on when it gets warm. They have great drinks, martinis esp, and usually always have a special of some sort. Inside is really smoky though, so be prepared for that. read more

Great food, yummy drinks, attentive wait staff! We love coming here when we get sick of the college bars and actually want to be able to have a conversation with the people we are with! There are only two downsides I can think of 1) its kinda pricey, but worth it in my opinion! and 2) you can smoke inside, which seems to be the norm for bars in Lubbock. I love me a dry dirty Martini and they served me two that were just perfect ($9ea. well vodka) My mister (happy to see it on the list) ordered a newcastle. Service: Perfect, with our very sweet and friendly waitress. Hard wooden chairs: SUCKED!!! made me want to leave rather than sit a spell. Atmosphere: Not to shabby. Very open floor plan with several attempts at decor, perhaps shabby chic...? We did come in after the Super Bowl, maybe it was set up for that crowd. Bathroom hand soap: Smelled delicious! I was complimented on my lovely smell after using it :) FOOD: First we order the Ahi nachos, it came out with 6-8? pan seared slices of tuna toped with a wasabi sauce, corn, and pico de gallo served on a tostada chip. Overpriced @$13 but very delicious. We wish we would had ordered two rather than our next selection... which was a smothered taco wrap...hhmm. meat was dry and tasteless, not nearly enough cheese on top to consider it "smothered" and it was a very petite serving for a plate that sounds manly and costs $10 Overall I would defiantly go back, overpriced? Stopped by here after I read other reviews on yelp. Have yet to really check out the bars in Lubbock but it was pretty decent, what I didn't see were a whole bunch of college aged kids and greeks trying to wasted or laid. Clientele is mid-20's to middle aged with a pretty even distribution, inside is nice, maybe a bit smoky but that's with any bar. The best part is the patio area, grab a chair there and enjoy the water and the breeze. Crowded on the weekends but nothing to stop me coming backs. Drinks are a little on the pricey side but you pay for a comfortable environment. Will be coming back. read more

The Gas Light is a regular place for my crew to hang out. We do stick to the back patio to avoid the smoky interior, but the patio is one of the main reasons we go. It's large and overlooks one of Lubbock's many lakes. Drinks at Gas Light are reasonably priced. While I tend to stick to mixed drinks, they have a decent beer selection. My favorite menu item is the patty melt panini. read more

Thumbs down to this place. A group of 4 people went on a Friday night and sat on the patio, we order an appetizer and we sent it back to have it heated up again because it was cold. Our food took a a little too long to get to the table as well. The mixed drinks we ordered tasted a little watered down too. They were not Crowded at all (I was surprised seeing as it was a Friday night) so I was surprised at the service.
