Went to see Moana (2026) and was a good movie. Some changes had taken place at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Slaughter Lane where the mural was changed outside to Spider-Man: Brand New Day and arcade prize winning machines were added inside. The kids seem to really like to win prizes so the machines seem to be a hit. The scan and pay for food and drink options seem to work well once you adjust to it. My food arrived very fast where had the Caesar Salad with Grilled Chicken and a KONA Big Wave Golden Ale. The salad was very good along with the beer. The staff was nice and friendly and seem like they also adjusted to the new ways there. read more

Alamo Drafthouse USED to be one of my favorite places in Austin - so cool - but it's sadly gone downhill fast! A new, money grabbing, greedy management team has clearly taken over. - Too much tech - they killed any personal interaction with servers who drop your food off not even knowing what it is. Why not just deliver by drones! - Service was SLOW -Popcorn (overly buttered) came last - A ranch water drink was $18!! - AND they charge 18% service fee to bring one milkshake. WTH?!? - Lobby is filled with those dumb toy grabbing machines; taking kids money in return for junk (if they even "win") that just ends up in landfills. Do better, Alamo. It's not too late to return to the amazing experience you used to offer. Until then I'll wait for the movie to come out online & make my family popcorn & drinks at home. read more

I used to love Alamo but over the last few years post Sony I've noticed the theater seems neglected - musty smell, chairs are more beaten up etc. My take on the QR controversy is the same. At first I didn't think it would be a big deal, but it's so clunky and it takes away from the old school experience. Everyone shining their phones to try and order food - and then they hit you with 18% auto grat which is annoying, and then try to ask for a bigger tip. In fact, if you don't go into your app to select no additional tip they automatically add a bit more. I kinda did like the mozzarella sticks and popcorn, but not the salad. Picture quality and sound was good. I would return but not in a rush. I think I prefer Evo & Cinemark. read more

I came here last week to watch the Devil wears Prada 2 with my boyfriend and we just had so much fun. We always have so much fun when we come to this location of the Alamo. My boyfriend loves the food here I sometimes kind of struggle to eat a little bit healthier and this time went with a Cobb salad, but it was genuinely so delicious. I was hesitating getting some extra dressing on the side, but it definitely didn't even need it. It was delicious as it was and I was genuinely shocked at what a great healthy option they have. I'm a little disappointed that you have to order using QR codes now and people don't come around so the service is just different but the ambience is great and the movies are great and I love the fact that they have specific tailored trailers for every movie that you go to so yeah, overall a really great experience and I love the establishment. read more

For the love of the gods, please bring back the paper and pen method of ordering food and a real menu. The QR scanning method is just awful. I don't think anyone enjoys ordering food in this way. Especially at a movie. When people go to a movie they want to forget about their phones for a few hours. Not more hassling, trying to scan a QR code in the dark.... And forget about if you have gift cards. Sitting there poking in 16 numbers at the end of the order for each gift card and credit card trying to do it before the movie starts, just creates anxiety. Plus, after all the poking, Error Message! Do it again. And again. Oh! Connect to the network! What?! No one wants this. We just want to sit and watch the fun stuff before the movie. Not play around trying to get some system to work on our phones. Not a fun experience. This is an instance where technology did not help or make things smoother. We need to go back to the simplicity of menus and paper ordering. I will say that the staff tried their hardest working within this overly complex system. 5 stars for all of them, trying to make things right. Super friendly and customer oriented. I went to Alamo Drafthouse to watch a movie. I drove into the parking lot, parked, walked in, went to the ticket stand, got my ticket, went to the theater room and found my seat. It was quick but I did go on a Friday in the middle of the day. I pressed the button for service and not long after the person that would be taking care of my order showed up. He was friendly and answered my questions. I placed my order, gave him my credit card, and waited. I ordered my usual. A pretzel, a burger with tortilla chips and this time I got a chocolate chip cookie. The pretzel was soft and hot. The queso and mustard that came with it were good. The burger was delicious and the chocolate chip cookie was a nice sweet to finish off my meal. Overall Alamo is still one of my favorite places to go watch a movie and enjoy a good meal. read more

The theater had great sound and projection. I had terrific conversations with each staff member I interacted with. The food was up to Alamo standards. Overall this is a solid movie theater. All that said, this theater isn't very unique as an Alamo. The theme of Little Shop of Horrors is weakly presented in the lobby. And the theater feels like a generic theater with tickets being sold from a line in front of the register; the bar that she sits behind looks like a concession stand. Was this building a different theater before it was an Alamo? read more

I'd originally purchased just a single ticket, but my plans changed and I wanted a different seat. I gave them a call the day before the movie and Daniel was so kind as to assist me in changing my seat for the movie. When I arrived, the person at the front still saw my old ticket in the system but found an envelope with my new ticket--yay! The theater itself was very well kept and clean and everyone we spoke with was so warm and friendly. The truffle popcorn was good but quite messy to eat with the seasoning getting all over, so the napkins are definitely a must. All in all, this was a fantastic experience and I thoroughly enjoyed watching Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings on the big screen! read more

We loved that they were different from other theaters, and took the movie experience seriously, but also maintained a sense of humor while providing great personal service. Mobile ordering has effectively ruined that. In addition to reducing their menu, you have NO option but to order with your phone. So long customer service. So long suggestions by the servers. So long greetings. They deliver your food, add an 18% service charge to your bill and then have the nerve to ask for a tip. For what??? And FYI? The reclining seats are nowhere as comfortable as other theaters. Alamo went corporate and you can tell. I'm done. read more

An awesome location with well lit and open interior, but lacks the character of some of the other Austin locations. Solid service from the staff and the food was good. They just added an online menu only and it is so inconvenient. There is a 18% service fee to all orders. And when i was walking into the theater, I saw a huge cockroach. The theaters are nice and old fashioned. But this new online ordering with the app and signing in every time is just not convenient. read more

We won't be going back to the Alamo. We loved it for many years. The experience is very different now. It's awful for 2 main reasons. 1. The QR code scan service requires you to spend 15 minutes typing into your phone all of your credit card information, order information and gift card information in the dark so that you are unable to watch the previews that you went to the Alamo to watch! It's so stupid. Then, after you spend all of this time doing what your server should be doing you will pay them an 18% gratuity for this. Terrible idea! 2. The food used to be pretty good here. The food is truly awful now. Ordered a Cesar salad that came with almost no dressing or cheese (cheese smelled awful anyway? It was lettuce and croutons. The hamburger was garbage. Worst hamburger ever. Tiny burger, the onions tasted weird and they can't even get a burger right. We will go to movies somewhere else now. Remember the Alamo, the way it used to be. I've lived in Austin for nearly 25 years and have always been a fan of Alamo Drafthouse. It was unique, fun, and had a system that worked. The ordering process was simple, the servers were friendly and unobtrusive, and the theater's strict no-phone culture helped keep everyone focused on the movie. Unfortunately, the new phone-based ordering system has completely changed that experience. Now you're required to use the very thing Alamo always told customers to put away: your phone. Ordering through an app is distracting, especially at the start of a movie. If you're ordering for multiple people, the system only allows orders by seat, which creates confusion about who gets what and often leads to interruptions from staff trying to sort it out. What was once personal and seamless now feels impersonal and generic. The servers barely interact with guests, and the technology gets in the way of the movie instead of enhancing the experience. I've given the new system three chances, hoping it would grow on me. It hasn't. After 25 years as a loyal customer, I'm finding myself looking elsewhere. Alamo had something special. In my opinion, they fixed something that wasn't broken--and lost part of what made them different. read more

We went to Alamo Drafthouse slaughter to watch the new Superman movie. I love seeing movies at Alamo with their uniquely curated previews. It's always recommended to get there 30 minutes before so you don't disturb others and you don't miss any of the previews. Seat numbers are easy to find and the seats are very comfortable recliners. They have food and drink specials for the movie. We had their Superman supreme pizza with mozzarella sticks And fried chicken sandwich in mustard barbecue sauce with fries. Everything was delicious and the staff are gracious and service is quick. The theater is conveniently located in South Boston and has ample parking. read more

lemme start off with i bought my tickets for the wrong time and day. i bought 4 tickets to see the new Spiderman on a Thursday night when i meant to buy them for Saturday at noon. i called and they were extremely nice and helpful and let me know that i would be set to come in on Saturday. i then got a little refund due to the saturday tickets actually being a little cheaper! when we got there, it was a bit messy and we had a mix up with another group of 4 who has done the EXACT same thing, bought 4 tickets for Thursday instead of Saturday. how funny!! at the end, it was all figured out and the staff was so nice and helpful during all of it. i usually go to another theater for movies but wow, definitely coming back due to the exceptional customer service. thank yall!!! read more

Backwards ideas from management. 1. They say don't text but make you use your phone to order food, still disrupting those around you with your phone all lit up. 2. They build the food tables too high and have reclining chairs so when you get all cozy you can't see the screen. That makes sense, right? It's like they don't test the product before they sell it. 3. If you ask Karen to turn off their phone or stop talking you actually get a warning from the manager for doing that. You have to be a 60 year old tattle tell and call a 20 year old to handle it. Alamo used to be one of our favorite places. It was unique, creative, fun, and an overall good value. The food was good and priced the same as you would pay if you grabbed a burger at a casual restaurant. Things have changed. Tickets now add a convenience fee, making two tickets about $34. Ok. They have a new ordering system. It's all by phone, but they automatically add 18% to the bill. Not an option. No interaction from anyone. That might be good or bad depending on your server. The food was ok, but the prices are ridiculous. $19 for a chicken wrap with no side. I was not driving, so I had a beer. $10 for a pint, not bad, but it was skunky. I had a jellyfish and you could tell that the lines must be full of bacteria to make it taste that flat. The only upside to the new ordering system is that you can add your additional tip and close out without interruption of the movie. Basically, the food is 3 stars for quality and 1 star for value. The beer is 1 star. The atmosphere is a 2. Time to try other movie theaters. read more

Our tickets said Row 9 Seat 10. They have 4"x 8" placards with 4 digits on each chair, our seat were marked 4018 & 4019. Zero correlation, we had to ask, wtf. Chairs have immovable tables in screen view, obstructing 10-20% of the screen if you sit up real straight - I'm 5'10". No phone-use rules, unless you order from the theater or rat your neighbor out for using their phone. Multiple encouragements to spy on other movie goers. Multiple threats to be either not allowed in to view the movie, and also to be removed and barred from re-entry. Powerful feelings of being watched, lightning on each seat so they can see you throughout the film. No purchase at front door. Nice big bar, set up so you walk right up and expect to get a beer and some popcorn. Not one but two bartenders standing there looking at you, like you're stupid and they're unhappy. They ask if you want a beverage. They listen for both of us to order. After this 1-2 minute interaction the barman says the policy is for us to go find our seats and order using a QR code. The man did not offer any assistance regarding us finding the proper theater, no assistance whatsoever. Just a woke condescending waste of everyone's time. First serving arrived 22 minutes after sitting down. If the screen had subtext running at the bottom, the seats would be perfect to block it out. I didn't know woke was still in business anywhere. Go woke go broke is a fact, so this shithole seems several years overdue. It's clear Alamo will be bankrupt soon. Not many folks there when we went, and we will definitely not return even though it is by far the closest theater to our home, just a mile. We will go seven additional miles to Slaughter and I35, where you're welcome to enjoy a film, not where you're told what you can't do, what you can't have, and that just showing up has a significant probability of ending with your incarceration. Woke fascism, if it's your thing then Alamo Drafthouse is definitely your place. read more

The speed and service of the team at Alamo Drafthouse is second to none! They were very accommodating for our work group, and we always enjoy the opportunity to come visit this location. My favorite part about their menu options is that you can find something for everyone - kids, adults (plenty of cocktail/wine/seasonal draft beer options), and all dietary needs. They do a great job with marketing their selections based on the latest movie features and what's coming soon (e.g., themed drinks/food specials). My one knock is that it's been quite a few years since the furniture was refreshed, so I imagine that they're due to make some updates in the near future (our seats/armrests were quite warn/torn). read more

The Slaughter location has personal use stationary tables in the theaters with a bag hook on the underside. All tables do also have a small light on the bottom however quite a few are non-functional. The Slaughter location offers baby shows, movie parties and lots of fun one-off showings. The staff is usually helpful when food-related issues arise, such as when a food item is delayed for more than 30 minutes. (Unfortunately, this has become a semi-regular occurrence.) The food prices have certainly increased, and this location adds an additional 18% service fee to every order. It's quite easy to spend $20-$30 per person on food, not including alcoholic beverages. It's also worth noting that you can't order a half order or a "side order" of fries for an entree like a wrap. The staff informed us that they can only do half orders for the loaded fries specifically. The unlimited popcorn however is a great deal and can easily be split between several people. The right side of the Slaughter building entrance has an accessible door with a push button option and both sides of the theater have an accessible bathroom stall in the Women's or Men's bathrooms. There are limited accessible parking spaces on the front left of the building but the spots fill up quickly on weekends. I've seen a few people utilize a caption device during shows provided by the Drafthouse. Accessibly helps everyone! read more

We went to see Wicked last week and our experience was pretty cool. My carnivore pizza was delicious. The cookies were a little burned though. I did get a cocktail and it was okay. The service was great! They were fast, friendly and correct. Most people seemed to get there earlier than the movie which I'm sure helped them to order and eat before the movie started. We arrived right went the lights went down because we are used to 30 minutes of previews in other theaters. The seats in the back were set at reclined so it made eating a little tougher but not impossible. Then of course you can press buttons and recline more. We sat in the last row and the drinks on the tables can get in the way of the screen but not terrible. Just know that it's an "eating at a table" theater experience and you should be fine. read more

I've always loved the Alamo but the new online ordering is terrible. The app is not that user-friendly. If you want to re-order in the middle of the movie, you have to get out your phone and focus on that instead of the movie, which is ridiculous. They add an 18% gratuity for simply bringing your food to you. Then, if you don't close out your tab, they try to add an additional 5%. They took a great process and ruined it. If you want to have people order on the app beforehand, fine. Once the movie starts, it should be the old method of writing on the piece of paper. Stop adding a bunch of gratuity when the customer is having to do all of the work. read more

The food and drink are prohibitively expensive. There were no prices on the printed menu (at least none that I saw). I was shocked by the prices...$18 for chicken fingers and fries, $7 for a Coke, $9 kids pizza. Friend spent $14 on popcorn. I knew there would be an 18% automatic gratuity. I did not expect the text after the movie informing me that I would be charged AN ADDITIONAL 5% tip (for 23% tip) if I didn't close my tab within 20 minutes. There is no reason that the tab from QR code ordering couldn't be closed at the same time that mobile ordering ends. 2 adult tix plus 2 kids tix were $54.90. I posted this review so people know what to expect to spend. Movie was fine, service was fine, ambiance was fine, but nothing about the experience of four people at the movies was worth $130. The lack of published prices and 5% gratuity seem intentionally sneaky. read more

We've loved going to Alamo for the past few years. Recently all of the Alamos we've been to have been making the digital switch. There are a lot of good things that technology brings, but this switch is not one of them. We've now been to 2 movies here with the digital ordering experience. Plain and simple the worst decision they have made. It is faster to quickly write down what you want, put it up, click the red button, then return to enjoy the movie. Instead, the digital process takes longer, takes away from the movie, and then with other guests on their phones it's distracting. Additionally our order took forever to get out. 40 minutes to be exact. Then when we ordered refills, they came in the last 3 minutes of the movie. The quality in the atmosphere has gone down. There was a lot more whispering & noise and I believe the change contributed to this. We then decided we would try again for another movie where we had a free appetizer, plus it was less crowded. Same thing happened. I ordered during the pre show and it took 40 minutes for our appetizer to come out. Also, you have to close out your tab before the movie ends which is another distraction. Plus if you don't close out fast enough not only do you pay the 18% service charge, but then another 5% on top of that. Last night I tried to close it out as soon as the movie was over, and I couldn't. Thanks for complicating everything and making the movie watching experience less enjoyable. read more

I've been going to this Alamo Drafthouse every month since it opened. I love the staff, the pre shows, and the customer service! Sadly, they recently switched to online ordering only. I am not good at this sort of thing and have trouble seeing in the dark. I asked for help and was told by a very nice server that he was sorry, but not allowed to help me. Id been looking forward to a nice meal and movie all day so I ended up taking time away from watching the show to leave the movie to get help placing my order at the register. The lady next to me had her phone out several times during the movie placing orders. Very distracting and anti-Alamo! I didn't order a second drink because of the hassle. I missed the interaction with the wonderful servers there who all seemed to dislike this process as well. I'm so disappointed and decided not to renew my unlimited monthly movie pass. I hope they go back to their old way of ordering. It is not the Alamo I have loved and called my second home for years. This feels like a corporate buy out change. Such a sad change. First, I will never patronize a Sony-owned company again. They are stealing employee tips, charging a mandatory 18% gratuity and putting it into a fund to financially help other Alamo locations. Because of severe understaffing, and taking food orders in the dark, you are guaranteed to experience very slow service and no resolution to incorrect food and drink orders. In my case, I do not want spooge on anything (i.e. no mayo, no aioli, no sour cream, etc). The food comes with it by default, and forget special orders. Based on the above, you are guaranteed a poor and overpriced experience. You are better off going to a regular theater, ordering from their menu and perhaps smuggling in items they do not sell. Hopefully someday they will take all the orders up front, so they can get them right the first time and in a timely fashion. Best of luck, and remember, buyer beware! read more

The food, the service, and overall ambiance are wonderful. It's a great venue to relax and enjoy a good movie!

I really want to enjoy eating here, but the setup makes it difficult. I'm tall, yet the trays are positioned so far away from the seats that it's awkward to use them. It would help if the trays swiveled or were placed closer, because right now it's almost impossible to eat without sauces or food falling onto your shirt. These days I only order popcorn since it's the easiest to manage. Please consider updating the tray design, it would make the experience so much more enjoyable! read more
