Love, love, love the Camp Active summer camp at Alamo Gymnastics! This is probably the most organized and informative camp I've ever enrolled my kids in. My 9yo daughter went for 2 full weeks (8:00-4:00) and my 5yo son did 2 of their half-days (8:30-1:30). Both kids had a blast this summer! The staff is very friendly, knowledgeable, and easy to work with. My daughter takes gymnastics classes here, so this camp is just another great service that they offer. Rates are on par with other camps. Electronic devices are prohibited during this active camp, which I think is a great policy! Kids do not need to be plugged in everyday. I like how the kids are grouped by age and each week has a different theme (sports, space exploration, safari, etc.). They do a theme-related craft each day, which is cute. We get a kick out of them, even though some are geared toward a much younger age than my 9yo daughter - we just giggle at those and I tell her how cute she is. She rolls her eyes - it's a lot of fun. They get free play in the little gym from 8:00-8:45 before they break into their age groups. They take a couple of snack breaks (dry snacks provided) and a lunch (parent provides). They go back and forth between the big and little gyms throughout the day, and around pick-up time (4PM), they're usually watching a movie. Sign-in at drop-off and ID check and sign-out at pick-up. You can register week-by-week online. You can uncheck days during the week if you know you won't be sending them every day and only pay for the days they will attend. This worked great when we had a dental appointment scheduled during one of the days, so I only paid for 4 days that week. They have a flexible refund policy too. You can pay an extra $10/day if you need extended care from 4-6 PM. The coach will send you an email the week before camp to introduce themselves and provide camp-specific info. This is a great touch and really helpful for parents to stay informed of procedures and expectations. One tip for them: update your information form that parents fill out to remove the info about swimming, since it's no longer offered during the camp. I try to be very picky about what service I get from places that relate to the children. Let me tell you, Alamo Family and Fitness saved my relationship with my kids this summer. :) This place rocks San Antonio. They have dance lessons, swim lessons, gymnastics, tumbling, cheering, martial arts, massage, on site daycare and so on.. Notice in one photo of mine that the little ones can participate in a class while the parents work out on the tread mill behind them for $5 a session or $30 a month. My kids love their coaches and I love to go to watch them excel at back bridges and hand stands. To add some icing to my life, I have made two very nice friends (also moms) in the time I have gone there that I have lunch with and call on a regular basis. If you are a stay at home mom (or Dad, because there are many of those, too!) and need an "out" every once in a while, Alamo Family and Fitness is a small price to pay for a social hour. read more

The gym itself looked clean, but review is on customer focus. Came around lunch time which could have been the problem. Saw about four employees walking around or talking , but I stood at the front desk with no offer for assistance for about ten minutes. The one person at desk was attending to another customer on the phone and wasn't able to acknowledge my existence or ask another team member to attend to me. Likely, I came at a bad time. However, I'm not going to chance it and plan to attend a different gym. read more

If I could give no stars, I would. My friends daughter was at the summer camp this past Monday and when her mother went to pick her up daughter, she did not see her in the gym she's usually in. My friends mother got in her car and proceeded to back out of her parking spot when she spotted her 4 year old granddaughter roaming around in the parking lot. My friends family has been trying to get answers from the gym and they gym insist that it is not their fault. They say the camp ends at 5 and even if the child is not picked up by then, they are no longer under their care. I've worked in child care for years and I know this is not the correct way to handle a situation of this manner. CHILD CARE IS STILL RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CHILD UNTIL THEY ARE PICKED UP AND SIGNED OUT BY A PARENT OR GUARDIAN. My daughter has been coming to gymnastics here for about 7 months. She loves it so much! The coaches are great and very attentive. She's only 4 so her skills obviously are not great yet but the coaches really try to focus on proper technique. They don't let the kids get away with doing something wrong but they are also very kind and fun. I love that combination in a coach for young kids. We've been going to Alamo Gymnastics for years now. They have a couple gyms, one for the smaller kids and another for older, more serious gymnasts. The smaller gym meets the needs for the little tikes, ranging from shorter uneven bars to a long trampoline. The larger one is the real deal. Everything you'd want to become a gold medal winner! The staff is great as well. Free play for those 5 and under on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. read more

This place always smells like feet immediately when you walk into the building. I also notice that there is never any cleaning of equipment being done. I did not want my child to get sick so I asked the lady at the front desk what their cleaning schedule was; She could not give me a straight answer and ended with "I honestly don't know". Children touch the equipment every day and no one sanitizes the material? I won't be coming back for the next session especially when I have already had a negative experience with billing & surprise fees from their manager Kelly. I must add she is a petty woman who will never give you a clear answer, making you believe your knowledge is wrong. She needs to also treat staff better. read more

Not only they are not willing to work with you in a situation, they also made my 7yr old daughter cry for over a mistake. I got confused with the registration for the second part of the semester (since there is so many numbers and letters and her history doesn't show in the portal) and I take responsibility for that. I took my daughter to her regular class and due to the mistake she was not able to stay and she was taken out of the worm ups in the most disrespectful and embarrassing way. You can only imagine her crying because of the way she was told to leave. Their are ways to approach kids. read more

I was in the market for childcare and after several letdowns, I called this center. I was surprised at the affordable cost of Drop-In care for select holidays, and decided to drop off my child. I went in, left her with her lunch, then went to work. Later the Director called me and left a very kind voicemail on how to register online, for free and then pay. The process was SO easy, and seamless. I think what helped most was the information they gave over the phone, both when I was just inquiring and when they followed up the day of care. And to top it off, when my child got in the car, she said she liked the center and wants to go back. That's all that matters to me, the experience. Thank you! read more

Several things that bothered me... Attended a friends birthday party on a Sunday at the gym with my child and it didn't seem like the coaching staff was very attentive. It appears they rather just talk with each other than pay attention to the kids. Several parents commented that a particular coach was maybe under the influence of something. To top it all off I was informed another parent spotted a bottle of wine near what seemed to be the staff room. We as parents have to sign a waiver for the safety of our children, however maybe the waiver is to protect drunk staff members??! read more

Love this place, my daughter has shown so much improvement in her gymnastics. Most of the coaches are very good and keep a close eye on the kids helping them get better with every class. Also I love the ratio between coach and students specially for the younger ones. read more

NOT FOR TUMBLING (CHEER) We attended a session of classes for tumbling level 3. My daughter does cheer and not gymnastics. I think this would be an ok gym for gymnastics but the tumble classes are sub-par. My daughter is used to 90 minute classes of running tumbling, standing tumbling and trampoline work - this class was 55 minutes, 15 minutes of stretching (long enough for the teachers to gossip and chat), followed by 30 minutes of trying to find space anywhere in the gym. A few handstands are done, a few walkovers back and forth in a line, followed by 10 minutes of stretching AGAIN. The streching is way too long considering how little they actually do. At most my daughter threw 2 backhandsprings on a trampoline in each class. There is NO room to do running tumbling as the gymnastic girls are on every floor possible. Trampoline work is done, but it is minimal and when you are used to doing it w/o a trampoline using one is going backwards. Also, there wasn't enough level 3 tumblers so we were placed with level 2 and that just set my daughter back being in a class with tumblers that were scared and some considred the time play time. We went to a gymnastics gym to "clean up" what we were learning in cheer, but this did not do it at all. Again, they look like a good gymnastics gym - I can't evaluate that but they sure are busy with the gymnastics, for cheer I would go to a cheer gym. read more

Last summer I had two of my girls in a half day summer camp. I decided to pay for just one week to try it out. Practically every day that I picked up the girls, one of the camp facilitators was yelling at kids at the top of her lungs while kids were eating their lunch. Also, I saw only two camp facilitators for a huge number of kids. I was glad when the week was over and decided not to ever enroll them again. read more
