We have been going to the Gold's Gym Bandera location since the start of the year. Prior to that we had been going to Aquatots but when my husband saw the Groupon we couldn't resist the savings. I figured we would go to SASA for the semester and then go back to Aquatots when the Groupon ran out. After experiencing the difference, though, we never looked back. I have been recommending SASA to all my friends. I have a 2 year old and a 4 year old. When we started my 4 year old could swim maybe 6 feet and my 2 year old could put his face in and blow bubbles. Now my 4 year old can swim the length of the pool unassisted, both on her back and on her stomach. My 2 year old can swim 6 - 10 feet on his stomach and he can do the back float unassisted. He is working on rolling over from front to back and back to front. Most importantly, though, both kids love going! The two instructors we have, Mr. James and Coach Steven are just so great with the kids! When we first started my 2 year old had some separation anxiety because he wasn't used to getting in the pool without me. He screamed most of the time for about 3 classes, but it didn't faze Mr. James in the least. He just gently guided my son through the lessons. Eventually his songs and toys won my son over and now he can't wait to go to class. Couch Steven is equally great with my 4 year old daughter. He seems to have the perfect balance of work and fun. He definitely does not baby the kids - they WORK! But they also love to do it. The things I love about SASA v. Aquatots: 1. Much less crowded. My 2 year old is in a class of 3 and my 4 year old is often the only student but sometimes there is one other child with her. There are only two classes going on in the pool at any given time. There are plenty of places for the parents to sit. At Aquatots you had to stake your claim for a chair by the window or you wouldn't have one. Then it was a mad rush for the changing rooms with everyone trying to reserve a changing room so that when all those kids come out at once you have a place to change. 2. You can hear and see what is going on. Instead of sitting behind glass you get to sit right next to the pool and you can hear what is being said. 3. I didn't have to get into the water with my 2 year old. It was nice to sit and watch instead of doing all the work of getting in and out of your swimsuit for just 30 minutes of swim time. 4. It's cheaper. It is a lot less expensive, even without the Groupon. At first I was thinking I wouldn't like SASA's policy of no makeup classes. The reality is that it has caused me to take missing classes a lot more seriously, and we just don't miss classes. At Aquatots I would miss classes a lot, but I had a hard time making them up and ended up forfeiting them anyway. 5. The pool is bigger. I didn't think my daughter would need a bigger pool this soon, but she uses the whole length of it. At Aquatots she would only have a small rectangle to work in. 6. You can use the Gold's Gym towels. This doesn't seem like a big deal but it is nice not to have to remember your own. When we first started going we changed in the ladies dressing room, which was awesome and I listed that as a major benefit SASA had over Aquatots. Now, though, I've been told that Gold's does not want us using the locker rooms so we must use the rest room in the child care center. It would be nicer if we didn't have to do that. In the summer time I just take the kids home in their swimsuits. 7. Both my kids have progressed faster. I'm really amazed at how fast the kids have learned while at SASA. What Aquatots has over SASA: 1. The Gold's Gym pool is cold in the winter. There are big windows in the room so the it is hot in the summer and cold in the winter. The kids spend part of each lesson sitting on the side and watching what is going on and they often shiver. I bought both kids wet suits to combat this problem. 2. They have a play area for the kids who aren't swimming. This isn't a big deal for me now that I have both kids swimming at the same time.

My 9yo daughter went for 2 full weeks (8:00-4:00) and my 5yo son did 2 of their half-days (8:30-1:30). Both kids had a blast this summer! The staff is very friendly, knowledgeable, and easy to work with. My daughter takes gymnastics classes here, so this camp is just another great service that they offer. Rates are on par with other camps. Electronic devices are prohibited during this active camp, which I think is a great policy! Kids do not need to be plugged in everyday. I like how the kids are grouped by age and each week has a different theme (sports, space exploration, safari, etc.). They do a theme-related craft each day, which is cute. We get a kick out of them, even though some are geared toward a much younger age than my 9yo daughter - we just giggle at those and I tell her how cute she is. She rolls her eyes - it's a lot of fun. They get free play in the little gym from 8:00-8:45 before they break into their age groups. They take a couple of snack breaks (dry snacks provided) and a lunch (parent provides). They go back and forth between the big and little gyms throughout the day, and around pick-up time (4PM), they're usually watching a movie. Sign-in at drop-off and ID check and sign-out at pick-up. You can register week-by-week online. You can uncheck days during the week if you know you won't be sending them every day and only pay for the days they will attend. This worked great when we had a dental appointment scheduled during one of the days, so I only paid for 4 days that week. They have a flexible refund policy too. You can pay an extra $10/day if you need extended care from 4-6 PM. The coach will send you an email the week before camp to introduce themselves and provide camp-specific info. This is a great touch and really helpful for parents to stay informed of procedures and expectations. One tip for them: update your information form that parents fill out to remove the info about swimming, since it's no longer offered during the camp. Other than that, keep doing what you're doing!

Parents - please at the very minimum - watch your child the whole time! Please!…read more On 8/30/25, my son was day 1 of level 4, still not able to swim on his own. The GM and water watcher were chit-chatting near the pool for awhile instead of watching for safety. The instructor had him swim to the middle of the pool with her walking with him. Then she turned him around and had him swim to the other end alone. She turned around with her back to him, and started talking to the GM and water watcher. My son started to panic - ALMOST DROWNED. He was splashing, flailing, gasping for air with no one to help him. I was stuck behind the glass - I should have jumped up immediately and ran. But within seconds, he managed to get near the instructor and touch her. She turned around and put him on the step. Not one staff member had a look of concern or noticed my son - NO ONE HAD EYES ON HIM STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE POOL NOR KNEW HE ALMOST DROWNED. I went to the front, and they brought out the GM. The GM didn't want to listen to me. She told me that my son kicked the instructor on his way back (by accident) and it winded her. She instructs all instructors to turn away from the student when they get winded. I never a person get winded and not take some deep breaths. According to the GM, "we all saw it [the kick and winding]." They apparently all saw it, and DID NOTHING. The GM didn't walk over to my son. So lesson here is if the instructor gets "winded" your child is on their own in the pool - the GM only cares about the instructor not your child. Here is my takeaway on the safety at Aqua-Tots at Stone Oak in San Antonio: - A video tells parents to sit out of sight for safety, so you won't even know if a safety incident occurs and when it does, they will tell you whatever. - The GM chit-chats in the pool area with the water watcher instead of watching for the safety of the students - If an instructor gets hurt, the instructor is first priority and the student is left in the middle of the pool to survive on their own. - I received an email from someone who didn't witness the event and said it was within safety of the school, so this incident is within the safety of their school - so you can see if that is safe for your child. - Some senior instructors seem bored and stare out at the parents instead of the student. I contacted HQ, and the owner called me afterwards, but we have left voicemails back and forth. I will remove this review if the owner or HQ gives me assurance and some details that more safety protocols are in place and the staff have been trained on these. Some examples: - No chit-chatting with each other once they pass the glass into the pool area; - If an instructor gets injured, the water watcher and/or management immediately step in to help the students; - Management re-evaluates staff for staff not paying attention to students - Close-down for some time (day or hours) if a near-drowning occurs, so staff can assess what occurred and how to prevent it in the future. My son feels traumatized - has flashbacks (searching left and right for help, wondering if he was going to run out of air and drown), wondered why no one was helping him. I hope every student and staff member are safe always, which is why I posted this review - so no one has to experience what my son did. God bless!

Absolutely love all the instructors at Smart Barre. I've tried both their barre and Pilates…read moreclasses. Both wonderful but I ultimately decided on Pilates Reformer classes for my fitness goals. The reformer classes are a full body workout. Movements are slow and controlled but boy do you work every muscle in your body. Plus, the resistance on the machine ensures you're working it all and then some. I feel more toned and definitely stronger since I started with them. Plus, these classes really increase your flexibility. Absolutely loving it! These classes are also great for people with joint issues because it's low impact. And again, I have to give some love to the instructors. Working out is hard. Getting motivated to work out is harder. But when you come in bright and early in the morning to friendly instructors and a friendly classmates, it makes you want to keep on coming in. The instructors here are helpful, give great guidance and genuinely want you to succeed. Couldn't ask for a better workout community. Check it out if you haven't. They offer some first time clients great specials to help you figure out which classes are more your style.

Socks are required for hygiene reasons and grippy socks especially are preferred so you don't slip around. The instructor was super friendly and very encouraging! She explained things very clearly so it was easy to follow along. I didn't break a sweat at all, but my muscles were BURNING. It's only been about 12 hours after my class and I can already feel the soreness in my muscles, which means that it was definitely a good workout.
