Do not rent from here! And if you do, use your own insurance to keep your rate down. I was estimated just under $400 for 4 days. With taxes I was expecting the final total to be around $500. I was asked to provide a $400 deposit upon arrival to pick up the car, because I was using a debit card. That was fine as I have always been reimbursed for the deposit from my experience with Enterprise. Upon returning the vehicle I was about 20 minutes late ( I stopped to get gas). When I dropped the car off I didn't speak with a person to spell out the charges, I was told to just drop off the keys (lunch time) I just received my final bill and was charged over $800!! They charged me a full additional day for being 20 minutes late, and took my entire deposit. I should've followed my instinct to ask to speak to someone about the charges instead of hoping I wouldn't get ripped off. Never again! Just because the cars here are cheaper doesn't mean your bill will be any smaller. Save yourself the headache and go somewhere else! read more

Worst customer service/management of any rental location in 25 years of corporate travel... call them directly every day 5 times a day for 7 days and no one picks up. Head Customer service has no ability other than to send a urgent message and do that 2 times and no calls back. All escalation Nina tells me is did you file an online report. We are talking about missing life altering radioactive cancer medicine that's takes a week to 2 weeks to make now due to supply shortage. The one time I don't open the back door to check the floor board and instead just do a shoulder check. Murphy's Law! Only time supposedly they do anything extraordinary if your report there is a lost weapon in the car. Call Knoxville and Nashville locations they pick up no issue - those sites should be rewarded for their customer service! read more

When I arrived in Chattanooga and walked up to the Alamo desk it was closed, directing folks to join the Enterprise/National line. This line had 3 parties in line, plus one at the desk. Just one person working the front desk. I waited 80 minutes in this line just to get checked in and be told that the car wasn't ready and to wait for them to call my name (no time/estimate provided), even though my pickup window for the car was over 1 hour ago. Service person was kind, but there should be more than one person working to support, the time waited and wasted is nonsensical. read more

That time, it was an excruciating 40 min. wait to get a car - both at the counter AND waiting for a car to be ready. Last couple of times, it's been fine, if partially because I really haul a*# coming off the plane to be (among) the first one(s) at the counter - and if that means shoving the less-able-bodied and/or more elderly fellow passengers out of the way or knocking them down, so be it. Time before the last time, I did something I said I wouldn't do: tempted by the extremely low price, I elected to pay for a tank of gas and return it empty. BAD move! Calculations approaching the complexity of quantum physics is involved if you want to actually realize the savings. What's the gas mileage of this vehicle, in the city and on the highway? What's the capacity of the tank? How much do you trust the onboard computer on the range? To make matters worse, the range disappeared on that stupid CRUZE once we're below 40 miles or so, which gives the impression you'd better gas up STRAIGHT AWAY! Or risk being stranded. I think I MIGHT have saved 68 cents going that route, and that's being not risk averse at all. I won't do it again. This last time, we had 2 issues: they charged me for putting my wife down as an extra driver (without telling me there's a charge). We usually do that 'just in case'. Ended up she didn't even drive at all. Still not sure what the official policy is, but I know with National, spice (that's plural for spouse) are not charged. I got a brand new Chrysler 200, which is basically a Sebring with a new name. It's not a very good car. But the worst part is: it had no CD player! Sure I can hook it up to my phone, but I brought a few CDs to play exactly because I don't have them on my phone! In both cases, they should have told the customer, so that there are no surprises. It's not a huge deal. When I called, they refunded the $40 they charged for the extra driver without question, and Austin called about the CD player once he found out there was a problem, which was after I'd returned the car, of course, but it's good customer service which you can't exactly take for granted these days. So, yeah - Alamo will continue to be in my consideration set. Thrifty and Dollar - they'd have to give me money to rent from them if they want to be back in that set. read more

1 star is just too much for this rental company, if you dont want to put your family in danger, think twice before renting a car from them, specially from the Atlanta Airport Location. Managers dont know what customer service is. He were driving from FT Lauderdale to TN, unfortunately, we were involved in a car accident at 6am in the morning. The 2 side doors were damaged during the crash, we went to Alamo Location in Atlanta Airport to exchanged this car, and no one care to help us. We waited 5hrs for a manager to do something, but the only think he did was pretty much laught in our faces and walk away. We needed the same car size, one to fit 8 people, including a car sit for my 3 year old nephew. Per the manager in dutty he could only offer us a car for up to 7 people, not sure what was on his mind, not sure where he was thinking we were going to sit the 8th person in this car. of course we didnt take the offer, we couldnt leave a person behind. He kept on telling us they didnt have a Yukon or a car big enought to fit all us and our luggage, on the other hand we kept seeing people returning Cars or SUV big enought for us, we count it a least 10. But he just didnt want to exchanged the damaged car for to continue our journey to TN. We checked online and we saw they had SUV's Available, we made a reservation and we told him that we madr a reservation, what he told us was , that ok, we could cancel the reservation for the damaged car on the crash , and we could proceed with the new reservation.. but guess what? The second reservation was 300$ higher than the original reservation. we refused to pay more , he didnt want to do anything else. He kept walkking passing by us, like were invisible. We called multiple times to customer care, and they couldn't do anything either, according to them, the desicion to changed us the car was on the hands of the manager in dutty. But he didnt care, Customer care didnt care, now we're driving to TN in a crashed car, we had to use tape to prevent the rain and cold to get insidr car, we also had to put tape in the driver window, glass is shaterring, and we still have 3 more hours to get to our final destination. THANKS ALAMO TO PUT ME AND MY FAMILY IN DANGER. Just FYI-- the accident wasnt our fault. read more

I travel quite a bit. Friendly people at the desk then everyone disappears... landed at 3:30... agreement is timed at 4:05pm... it is now 5:29pm and we are still waiting to transfer luggage from one vehicle to another if it ever turns up. First rental van arrived with no gas... and bugs on wins shield. I used Costco and will let them know as well. Beware if you are on a schedule to get somewhere! read more

This is the WORST car rental service I have ever used. I booked my car 3 days in advance. The website clearly stated that cars could be rented with a debit card and said nothing about their credit card only policy. Upon arriving to the airport to pick up my vehicle I found an empty booth with the lights off. I guess the employee wanted to take off early or something, I can't blame her. It was a Saturday and who cares about business right? So I postponed my plans and had to spend the night and went early in the morning. Employee was late to open the booth. Surprise. I showed her my reservation number AND check in number both of which I got online. She told me that she couldn't give me the car because I didn't have a credit card. Service is terrible, policies are terrible, website is even more terrible. If I could give a negative star rating I would. read more

I made a reservation ahead of time for a one-way rental from Chattanooga to Atlanta. When I arrived at the counter with my family at 10:30 PM, I was told that they would not honor my reservation since it was for a one-way rental. Although they had cars available, they mentioned that their fleet was supposedly separate and they were only allowing local rentals. So why take my reservation in the first place? Denying a rental while you have cars available is completely unacceptable. I had to rent from another company at a much higher rate. I would like to add that the staff at the counter was very unfriendly and completely unapologetic. I sent an e-mail to the location's general manager and have not received a response so far. This is how you can be expected to be treated if you rent from National, Alamo and Enterprise in Chattanooga as all these brands are managed by the same local affiliate. read more

We booked our car rental through Hotwire. I rented "midsize" "Toyota Carolla or comparable. When we arrived and went to the booth in the airport, I was asked if Hyundai was OK. I said "sure", but when we were sent out to find the car, I couldn't believe what I found--a Veloster, a car I had never heard of. It was very small . I was sure they had made a mistake and given me a compact. So I went back in and told the clerk that there had been a mistake. She said "no, that car is an intermediate" I said, "Well it is as small as a conpact and smaller than midsizes that I'm familiar with." I just bought a Volvo S60 and traded in my Honda Accord. To me that's midsize. But they wouldn't budge--had no more cars at the same rate. They said I could have a VW Beetle if I paid $10 a day more. I said, no, I'll take the Veloster., but it's s lousy deal. It was not only small, it was tinny; it sounded like a lawnmower motor, and had a terrible ride. My wife who drove home said it didn't drive well either. So when I got to where I was going. I googled to see what I could find out. Consumer Reports review of cars says the Veloster is not a compact, it's a "subcompact!" Another rental car agency gave the Ford Fusion as example of midsize. I tried the Fusion when shopping for cars, and it was huge compared to the Veloster. In short I think I was cheated. read more

I wish I could negative stars!!I dealt with the worst customer service ever in my life at Alamo tonight. It started with Melody the counter girl, who was less than unprofessional and customer friendly. Inspite of having everything I was told to have including a prepaid reservation they refused to honor my rental becquse based on a policy they stated was only for their location. Additionally, they refused to answer the phone when customer service tried to follownup with them, to address my concern. Ive had this reservation for weeks and at 730 at night during the holiday you refuse me service. How is this professional business practice. The personnel was highly disrespectful, unprofessional, they didnt even try to help me find a solution or remedy anything that would have helped my. I had to bend over backwards to get a car that I hqd all the stated crediatls to rent, but they refused me service over and over and over again. I will never rent from Alamo again and a I truly I hope this is not a representation of Alamo as a corporation. read more

My wife and I had a horrible experience because of Alamo. We arranged a trip from Toronto to Chattanooga plus a car rental through Alamo, all booked through Expedia. We flew down from Canada to see the total eclipse. When we arrived, we discovered that Alamo ignored our reservation and had no cars. No one else in the city had cars either. Some of the folks from Hertz told us that Alamo overbooked horribly and left 40 people or so stranded. Our trip was ruined. We paid several thousand dollars to get down there, the eclipse was an hour's drive away, and there was no way to get there. The people at the Alamo counter were rude and completely unhelpful. We had to turn around and go home. We missed an opportunity to see the total eclipse and lost a ton of money because Alamo likes to overbook its cars. read more
