Alamo most useless car rental in the world. I have flown extensively abroad and local for my entire career. I book car, do online check in with all my details, in order to secure a smooth check in. At arrival I had to do redo all paperwork, that took another 60 minutes. Booking prepaid, but still they debited 2 of my cards , still not refunded. Then we went outside and car I ordered or anything similar was not ready, they scrambled to get me a car, another 40 minutes elapsed. When I started to complain, they told me they doing everything to get me a car , this after I pre booked, paid, did online check in , and close to another 90 min wait. When I started to complain the manager Grace became very aggressive, and they cancelled the booking. Other than, the extremely long wait which was about an hour and half, everything else was nice. The lady who checked me in, was very nice but thought that I was probably a youthful human trying to get a car. She questioned me to be sure I was me, even after printing out the documents and while holding my ID and my real credit card. She asked me a couple of times , my information as stated on my ID and on the paperwork. I prepaid for everything, weeks before my arrival therefore, I'm not sure why she treated me like I was trying to break into ft Knox. I low-key wished that everyone was like her because, she was very professional and did her job as if, she owned the joint. If everyone were like her, we'd never have fraud going on. I noticed that she didn't treat others this way which was a little questionable but I could only think that it was probably because I appeared to be a youthful human trying to rent a vehicle under someone else. I didn't take it Personally but did wonder why me. Lol The 2 lady's who worked this shift, were moving as quickly as possible. It was nice that a 3rd fella joined the 2 ladies to help speed up the line because that was a super long wait. They all deserve 7 weeks off with pay honestly because they worked hard! I tried to "skip the counter" as I always do when renting vehicles but, it never works online when signing up with Alamo and on top of that, I find that, you still have to go to the desk to go over everything again anyway... please fix this system before the winter Holidays. Sheesh! It's really nice when you're able to skip the line and walk right out to get your vehicle! I found that no one was able to sign up during this trip and that we all had to wait in line to greet our car and keys I was grateful to be able to get into a brand new vehicle with only 7 miles on it! I was the first to drive it and loved it!!! When I walked out to get the vehicle, the car attendant was bringing a car up to another customer but made me walk all of the way to the front of the garage after pointing for me, to go get my vehicle. WOWWW!!! I was like, "oh so you're really going to make me walk all of the way over there with my broken wheel suitcase, and carry on bag, to get my rental" lol What a rough experience!!! Happy it was a brand new vehicle #Blessed #Blessed I will definitely need to look more grownup returning here, so that, these humans respect their elders sheesh!!! The only problem was that as I was driving out of the airport and already on the freeway, I noticed that the hood was up, in which, I ended up having to get off in a sketchy part of town to close it, at a gas station surrouned by police who weren't in site. A homeless guy sitting on the step in front of the caios seen me get out of the car and told me to be careful because, someone might kiss me, but take the car. Lol I shut the hood down, locking it, and jumped back into the suv and zoomed outta there fast, quick and in a hurry! It was super late/ early morning out and humans were coming from bars and clubs I reckoned. The SUV itself was nice and served it's purpose. I'd rent with ALAMO again as I've done many of times but next time, I'll try to look more grownup, to avoid the interrogation. Lol I'm just glad that our plane landed before closing time because Alamo was closing as I was leaving in the rental. The lady at the gate who checked me out of the lot, was amazing and such a sweet human. She deserves a year off with pay because she was just a great soul. I'll be returning and when I do, I'll try to get there earlier. Hopefully by then, the "skip the line" will be working properly without pause. We actually had really great service here. They didn't have the size car that we reserved so they gave us a free upgrade. Really nice, beautiful 7-seater SUV type, lots of room for all of us plus our luggage. Service was fast and friendly. When we returned the vehicle, the guy gave us a ride back to the departures part of the airport; this saved us so much time and took the stress off of us having to walk far and get through everything. I reserved my car through AARP, so the process was pretty simple. I picked it up from the airport. I think I lucked up at the time of day I picked it up because we literally only took 5 minutes to get our car. They were out of the standard cards, but they upgraded us to a full-size for no extra cost. That was pretty cool. We had a Nissan Altima. It was in great condition, so no problems in that area and we saved on gas. They are an affordable place to rent a car. The $300 hold on my credit card was ridiculous in my opinion. But, I can say that it only took them a day to put it back on there. I would use them again! read more

Waiting for my car reservation which was booked and paid for over a month ago and there were at least 8 other people waiting for cars in the Memphis airport on 9/5/20. It was one of the worst car rental experiences I've ever had. Not only was the customer service lacking, when I finally did get called after about 40 minutes for my car, the windshield was cracked and there was some kind of dried, maroon liquid on the headliner (gross). Rather than risk getting something worse, I had to call the 1-800 number to make a note in my file that I did not cause this damage. When I went to return the vehicle, they tried to charge me for the cracked windshield and I had to get the guy to pull up my file and check the note. Someone needs to get hold of this agency and straighten it out. No reason for this nonsense. read more

I was traveling solo with my 2 year old and decided to rent a car seat to make it easier for me to navigate the bags, stroller and my son. When I arrived the person who took care of me was nice and took me out to the car when I reminded him I needed a car seat. He showed me the option and it was a high back booster seat. I explained that wasn't the right seat for him. He showed me an infant carrier and a regular booster all of which are not the right car seats. I explained he needed a 5 point harness car seat which was not an option. No 2 year old should be strapped in a booster seat with the seatbelt. That is not safe. My son is still backwards facing. I ended up having to use the booster to drive to Walmart and buy a car seat because I had no other options. I wasn't going to risk my son's life and use the booster seat for the entirety of my trip. I would give lower rating but the people who tried to help were nice and did their best but it's concerning that you advertise car seats for 2 year olds and only offer booster seats. You really should offer 5 point harness car seats as an option because that's the safest car seat for toddlers. The car seat charge was taken off and I was given a credit for the inconvenience but still had to buy another car seat which is expensive. My biggest concern is the children being in the right seats. There is a dozen angry customers in the rental car facility waiting for their cars. The response by the staff is "I don't know anything, I don't know when you'll get your car and I don't know anyone who does". When the staff is in the dark call management. We did. Forget about the "skip the line" option...yes you may skip the line on the inside only to find an even longer line in the garage where all the other "skip the line" people are having to wait in line - you in fact cannot just "pick the vehicle in your range and the keys will be inside" where you then swiftly drive off. No, it's actually 1 person who goes and physically gets each car, creating this monstrosity of a line. Absolute fail. Not efficient, and certainly not faster. Well, glad this didn't work out! I would recommend any company BESIDES this one. Flight arrived at 9pm. Reservations were booked in advance through Expedia, corporate account. Get to the Alamo desk & there is ONE attendant... a line 10+ long. It takes 45 minutes for one of the Enterprise agents to have sympathy & come help the one attendant. Half the line left by that time. Don't blame them! I get up to the counter, only to be told the reservation was "lost". Then, they tried to double charge insurance. And the final result: refusal to rent because of no return airline ticket. So... what does everyone else in town for work do when they don't have a return ticket because the time frame is indefinite!? Kind of funny how Dollar had 0 problem with a rental, and 10 times as fast, with WAY better customer service! It is safe to say the company I work for will no longer use Alamo. Nor will I personally use them, or recommend them to anyone. Worst experience ever. And never again! Not for a crappy, compact car that wasn't even available. read more

The car rental place knew about the delayed flights and stayed up (not thrifty who I originally booked with) so I walk up and Risa (Lisa with an R) informed me that thifty closed. She could tell I was extremely frustrated and asked if I wanted to talk about it. I vented a bit about thifty and how I already paid for my rental. I was so upset. This sweet girl really helped me out, she worked fast and got me a rental with them and she even let me pick the car I wanted. I went with her favorite, the Jeep Compass. I couldn't find the survey but I wanted everyone to know how professional and sweet Risa was. She got me on my way as quick as she could and was the nicest person ever. This was by far the worst reservation experience I have ever had with a company. This is the Memphis airport location. I reserved my vehicle weeks prior to my trip. I even did the skip the kiosk check in. When I arrived there were no cars on the lot!!!!!!! Then I go to the inside counter and the young lady says we don't have the ability to do the skip the kiosk. There were no signs or anything!!!! Then they held 400 dollars from my card but did not have a car available. Then they send me to another counter to get a car and they told me it will be another 20 minute wait. I asked to speak to a manager and they would not come out. Rented a mid size car on 5/27/2023. All was good until I had a tire going low , called the main Alamo number, was told I had two choices, take it to a tire shop or exchange the car. I chose to exchange the car (also because it was filthy when I picked it up). I was told to go to Enterprise rental at 2019 Covington Pike, I drove out there and was told by a very arrogant woman at the counter that there was nothing she could do because they were partners with Alamo but the systems were different and she did not know how to do it. Called the Alamo number again and was told they would escalate the case higher up and would call me. I waited over an hour, no one called so I called again, was told the second time to go to Enterprise, Got there for the second time, same woman told me I was wasting my time because she had already told me there was nothing she could do. I called again and held on the phone for 20 minutes and ended up getting a guy supposedly in charge of the escalation committee, he said take it to the airport and exchange it. I said that makes good sense but why are your people telling me to go to enterprise? I took it to the airport and got a different car, wow!, all day adventure. I had a great experience renting with Alamo at the Memphis airport location. I don't usually need to rent cars when I visit Memphis since I have a pile of family here, but I did this time. From making the reservation via phone (I was transferred by a Delta ticket agent to an Alamo representative) all the way through returning the vehicle, it was a pleasant experience. My flight was late arriving to Memphis, but the counter was (thankfully!) still open and they had a car for me. As I approached the counter, the (very adorable) gentleman behind the counter greeted me by name...even before I gave him any identification. I asked him if I happened to be the last person arriving...he said no....but that I just happen to look like a Jody. He also didn't do a "hard sell" on me with the insurance (which I opted in for anyway) - he just asked if I needed it. More points there. I paid for a mid-sized vehicle but they only had a minivan available - which I was more than fine with. I like larger cars, anyway. Some people aren't big fans of minivans...but this one drove fabulously and was given the silly nickname, "the love machine" while I had it. (It was my silly nickname for it...I was in town for not-so-much-fun reasons and I guess I felt the need to lighten the mood). I had to extend the car rental twice. Called Alamo and each time it was easy-breezy. Customer service was great each time I called. Returning the car on the day of my departure went smoothly and all of the staff that I encountered were as friendly and nice as the (adorable) gentleman at the desk on my night of arrival. If I need to rent a car in Memphis again, no doubt that I'd go through Alamo again. Thank you for a solid experience from beginning to end. read more

Came in after an international flight and several domestic flights, with my toddler. Reserved a car weeks in advance. Pre-paid even. Just wanted to get us in the car and go since we had another 2 hours to go. We g be o to the counter to be told that they do not have any cars. I was given the option of waiting to see if anyone returned any cars. After talking to some of the other people waiting, they had been there for 5+ hours. I also was guaranteed a car seat, which they did not have. Their response was "we can pay for your Uber to a hotel and hope for some cars to be returned tomorrow". It has been a week and I still have not received a refund. The 1-800 customer service is a joke. Rented a car for a few days. Got the economy car. Was able to pre pay, that was a huge plus. Got threw line quick, and found a car in the row i was directed too. Was a Ford Fiesta. For a few bucks a day, couldnt go wrong. Getting out of the parking garage was another story. Took half hour to get passed the gate. They were so slow at this point it cost them stars. Its not like there were lots of cars in line, we were second in line. Must have been having computer issues, but if thats the case, they need a back up plan. The car was clean and ran great. This seemed to be the only place that had any business to conduct as the other rental car companies had no one waiting in line. As I rolled up to the Alamo, I began cursing myself for naming my own price as there were five people ahead of me and only one employee servicing them. One may say five people ahead is nothing but that can be hours at a rental car company. I was happy to see that shortly after I showed, another employee came out from the back and the line moved smoothly. Bad experience. I couldn't even get in touch with the local office, and when I was finally transferred the national (800 number) representative, they told me that I should have called roadside. Their staff member transferred me there! The problem started when I woke up and went out to a car with what appeared to be a dead battery (I couldn't get the fob to unlock the door). No click, no been, no lights. Nothing. In all fairness, other than having to relay flawed Alamo policy, the staff I spoke with were friendly and understanding. This was an ALAMO problem, not a Memphis location problem. The Alamo representative told me that I had to pay $69 for Alamo to send someone out to inspect their faulty vehicle, because I waived the over-priced coverages. I was floored. I ended up calling AAA on my dime and had it jumped. How can THEIR car not start at no apparent fault of the person Renting the car, yet THEY have to pay to have Alamo's car fixed? After the AAA jumped the battery, it Worked fine the rest of the weekend. Poor policy. Poor customer service. Alamo has a few internal policies to fix before I rent from them again. read more

My husband and I reserved a car today. When we arrived, we were told that they only had one car available - which was a truck (not what we reserved). We didn't want the truck but said that we would take it (because we had been traveling and were tired). As we were getting into the vehicle, we were told that there was a lady in front of us that changed her mind and was now saying that she wanted that car(after we already agreed to take the car). Again, we were getting in the car and had to come back into the building. At this point, the greeter who was initially taking care of us told us she was leaving for the day and the manager, Erin, was summoned. She came inside. She did not offer any apology whatsoever and was very flippant. She literally came in and went to the computer. There was at least 5 minutes silence and no communication whatsoever when finally my husband inquired on what next steps were. She spoke to us (without a mask in the middle of the coronavirus epidemic) and told us she was doing 5 things at one time and we just needed to hold tight. Again - no apology - and super rude! She then says that the one car that she had - we would need to show proof of insurance to leave with. This was a mustang (a car that she claimed was premium - are you kidding me?!). I've rented with Alamo for YEARS and never had this request. Especially after being inconvenienced! I was super annoyed, but was going to show the insurance so that we could go home. In the midst of this, I asked her how long it would take to get the vehicle. She then says that she didn't know - maybe 30 min to an hour. At that point I was over it! I told her that this was a damn disaster and made no sense as not only were we paying customers being treated as second class citizens, the LAST time (about 2 weeks prior) that I rented a car - they were out of vehicles. That time I waited over an hour for a vehicle that was not cleaned and another manager was disrespectful in the exact same regard. Erin told me she would not be "disrespected" (the nerve!) and asked me to leave the premises. Erin needs to be FIRED as her actions were that of a 5 year old and she should not be managing a popsicle stand much less a place of business. I WILL NOT BE BACK! Further - how is it that this place keeps running out of rental cars?! It is a good 7 - 8 minute walk to the car rental center. This can be difficult for disabled and elderly. It would be nice if there was a waiting bench or chairs one could sit while waiting their turn at the counter. Once at the counter everthing went smooth. Because Alamo has very competitive prices their lines will be longer than other companies. I liked choosing from the line. I would like to see some more small crossover SUVs in their stable. Every rental should have a cheat sheet for the car as to where the trunk release is and the gas gap , etc. I am not sure while National and Alamo are acting as two companies, two desks while they are the same company. read more

My initial experience with Alamo was wonderful, but unfortunately recent changes have made me feel the need to respond negatively. The line to pick up our rental car was short, and the employee working the desk was kind and efficient. As no one accompanied us to examine the car before we took it out of the garage, we took a video of all sides of the car. There was pre-existing damage to the front bumper that we captured on the video. During the trip the car was great, ran well, and was very clean. When we returned the car, the employee checking the vehicles asked us what happened to the front of the car, to which we responded we had a video proving the damage was there before we took the car. The employee wrote us a receipt and all was well. Now three weeks after returning the car, I received a damage claim from Alamo. While I know this specific location is not responsible for filing the claim, they should be responsible for tracking pre-existing damage and clearing the name of the renters who use the car afterward. Luckily, after reading previous reviews from this rental place, we planned ahead and have indisputable video proof that we are not responsible for the damage to the car, and I encourage everyone to do the same. If no one comes out to examine the car before you exit the garage, take a video or take photographs yourself. EDIT: After a few weeks, Alamo representatives contacted me and have cleared the claim. I was told the employees are not instructed to do walk-arounds, but are instructed to tell customers to clear any damage with the check out booth as they exit the lot. Unfortunately none of the 3 employees that we spoke to that day told us this so we were unaware of this protocol. read more

This place is horrible. Car was gross with skittles mashed into the back seat upon pickup and smelled weird. The customer service representatives on the telephone were half and half. I had one very sweet representative that actually wanted to help but the line was disconnected about 10 minutes into the call and then I spent 10 mins on hold when calling back waiting for a rep. Then the second rep had a bad attitude. They billed me for an extra day AND a refueling charge incorrectly. Total rip off. Paid an initial booking for over 600 dollars and then they added so many fees at the airport it was OVER 600 Dollars additional. Will NEVER rent from hotwire OR Alamo ever again. Terrible experience. Highly advise just spending the extra 5-10 dollars a day to go to a real agency. read more

The people behind the counter were very helpful but had a lot of conversations between each other that did not pertain to the renters. Upon dropping off my rental car at the Memphis airport, I left my IPad behind in the car. An HONEST, Alamo employee found it and followed through to ensure that I received this IPad back. Also, the Memphis employees, behind the desk at Alamo, are always very professional and courteous. I received an upgrade as I was being personally escorted to my rental car's location in the garage. I will never rent from ALAMO AGAIN. I was charged $300.00 deposit that I only received $244.00 back. I emailed and called for over a week. They told me, since I went through Hotwire( 3rd Party) I would need to contact them personally. Hotwire DID NOT CHARGE ME $300 DEPOSIT. I was emailing Tierra from ALAMO, as soon as I question the foolishness she was telling me, I was no longer able to send her emails. Customer service and supervisors are horrible. I will take my business to a company that will RETURN ALL DEPOSITS! They are a total rip off. I went to the Alamo in Memphis, TN airport. If I could rate LESS than a star I would.
