False $150 toll charges applied without verification 10 days after return!!! please write a 1-star review for Alamo Rent A Car at the Hartford airport: My reservation was from October 9th to 11th. I drove the car within CT to attend the family weekend at the Hotchkiss School. On October 18th, I received a receipt and a notification from my credit card that I was charged $150.9 for toll charges. I was very confused because I've been to Hotchkiss School many times and there are no tolls on the way from the airport. The person at the desk also confirmed when I was taking the car on Oct. 9th. And what toll charges add up to $150 in two days?! So I opened the receipt only to find that the tolls were all the way in Ohio. If any human being was even checking the record, they would see that I picked up and returned the car at the Hartford airport, and the mileage they recorded would not indicate that I drove all the way to Ohio from Connecticut, and back. But they didn't check. They didn't call me. They just charged my credit card. read more

I had yet another great experience on this trip with Alamo (after a very bad experiences with junk cars rented by the Avis/Budget monopoly recently). The gal who checked me out was super friendly and let me choose between about 8 cars in my category, such that I got the exact car I wanted! We recommend being cautious when reading the many positive reviews for Alamo, as our experience was quite different and left us deeply disappointed. Initially, we reserved a vehicle classified as a "skip the counter" option since we needed to reach our destination quickly once the plane landed. However, you have to check in first to use the skip-the-line feature. We tried several times to do this before the trip but had no success. I then called Alamo (twice), and they informed us that our reservation did not allow early check-in, likely due to a payment issue with the Expedia rental. This was our first letdown. We booked a Nissan Maxima or a similar vehicle. Since we couldn't skip the line, we ended up with an Audi A3, which is much smaller and less premium than the Maxima. I should have rejected the car, but we needed to get to our destination quickly and accepted it. When driving into the sunlight the following day, we noticed the windshield was filthy; it looked like the previous renters were smokers or the glass hadn't been cleaned in weeks. A filthy windshield significantly affected our visibility, making it a high safety concern. Furthermore, while the car's exterior appeared clean, numerous water spots on the side mirrors made them unusable to see anything, posing a serious safety hazard. It would have been nice for the trunk's interior to be vacuumed and used tissues removed from under the passenger seat before someone new took the car. We should have returned the car the following day. We paid $441 for a seven-day rental. We were supposed to return the car at 5 PM at the airport at the end of our trip. Everything was going smoothly until my wife caught COVID during our trip. She fell asleep at a relative's home, and I didn't want to wake her to return the car, so I let her sleep, which should not have been an issue. In previous rentals, we had returned vehicles early and late without issues until this experience with Alamo. After dropping my wife off at the hotel, checking us in, and getting her into the room, I arrived at the car rental return a few hours late, only to find no staff at the Alamo return area. This was quite concerning. I waited for a representative to explain our delay but couldn't find anyone. Security drove past me and asked what I was doing like I was a criminal, and when I told her, she said just to leave the car. As a customer, I expect better service. So, I was shocked to see a late fee of $124.85 charged to our account. Yes, I was a few hours behind schedule, but my best guess is that they didn't check our car in until the next morning. This fee seemed excessive for just a few hours late, leaving us feeling unfairly treated, considering what a mess the vehicle was. Overall, this was not a good experience with Alamo, and it will be the last time we use their services. When people ask about our trip last week, I say it was beautiful, aside from my wife's illness and our many issues with Alamo. read more

Great experienced I have always rented cars with Alamo and its always been good but this time it was truly great had my kids and wife with me and everything came out great. We rented a large lux SUV loved it was clean and nice . What really got me to come back with Alamo is that they really have a good customer service mornings or nights this time we arrived at midnight expecting to have some hiccups but no everything was great. As for return way better we were not rush out of the suv like other rental companies do. I had even forgotten my airpods and went back almost 45 mins to an hour later and the staff were able to find them quick. Excellent service at this Hartford, CT airport Alamo Rent a Car. They actually didn't try to upchaege me and only charged me for what my reservation specified. Delivering what is promised goes a far way with me when traveling. The line wasn't long and the two reps from National moved us all through rather quickly. I like that both car rental companies work as a team. The male agent I dealt with was friendly despite the fact that it was close to midnight. The car was nothing less than perfect. I had to go to southern CT and then over to MA for family events. I enjoyed the ride each time I got in the vehicle. Thanks again for a great experience. read more

My late night flight was delayed two hours (plus a delay waiting for an arrival gate), so by the time I got to the shuttle area, it was almost 3 am. Not only were they still open but the shuttle was waiting for me. Both employees were pleasant despite having to wait around for my late flight - and I got an upgraded car (cause that's all that was left). The trick, though, is that I booked through Alamo and entered my flight number, so they knew I was going to be late. Drop off was very easy, and the shuttle driver was incredibly nice. Horrible experience with Alamo. 2 out of 3 Pre-pays were supposed to be refunded due to all being booked on the same card so we switched to other cards at arrival. The employee at the counter, Steffan, according to on the phone customer service had marked our rentals as no shows and the charges were never properly refunded even though we were rudely told it would be. His unprofessional demeanor and attitude reflects the way he does his work - no attention to detail. Don't expect to be dropped off at departures The shuttle drops everyone off at arrivals (lower level, so neither curbside check-in nor wheelchair service are available as they are at the upper departure level) even when there are 20 minutes or more before the next arrival. This is ostensibly to save gas but yet they'll idle for the twenty minutes (illegal?) before the first customer arrives on a incoming flight. read more

At first I was skeptical - I needed a last minute holiday rental car to pick up at Bradley, return to Boston. Alamo's price was $200-300 less than the other major car companies. I was concerned there would be hidden fees beyond what I was displayed on my confirmation. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the price was all-inclusive, no additional fees to be found. I was in and out with my rental car super fast and the representative let us pick whichever car we wanted in the size we picked! The car itself was perfect and had no issues. Well, unless you're returning the car at night (say, 11PM), then service is actually consistently slow because there's not enough staff. The service was great. Shuttle from the hotel waiting for us. The attendant was very personable and upgrade me to a fully loaded jeep grand Cherokee for practically nothing. This truck made my winter trip to Connecticut well worth the slight extra. My wife now wants to buy one so I may not have gotten such a great deal - HAHA. I was confused with the lady at the gate leaving who then asked if I wanted several options enabled on the navigation system. I would have thought this gets done inside. Everything from booking to returning the car went fine. The associate who signed a car off to me actually bumped me up to a better make/model because I qualified for it, which I really appreciated. The one thing I really disliked was that when I checked the car in, the final receipt charged me for gas, even though I had filled the tank up before dropping it back. I quickly brought this to the attention of the associate, and the charge was reversed. Just made me think if they charge everyone for gas, irrespective of if you bother to gas up the car before returning it or not. Good place to rent from, but check the final receipt! read more

I booked this with a flight through a discount website for September. I got into the airport late one Friday, and the shuttle arrived pretty quickly. But, when I got there, there wasn't actually anyone at the Alamo counter, so I had to go to the other counter (National) and wait for someone where. The guy was nice enough, but he basically took my info and pointed in the general direction of the cars. It was dark and I couldn't really get a good look at them, but I picked one hoping there wasn't a huge dent in it. The car itself was fine--decent gas mileage and decent price. The real issue was the return. So I had a 6am flight and called the day before to ask what the protocol was (no one is at the counter that early), and the call center guy told me to just leave the car and wait for a van. I get to the lot and it's like a zombie apocalypse happened there. There were some really bright lights on, an empty car, deserted with its door wide opened, and 80s music playing in the abandoned office (I stood in the rental office while I tried to get someone on the phone at the main 800 number to make sure I was really supposed to leave the car there-was on hold, and never got through). There were zero directions about where to park and where to put the keys, so I put the keys in the console and hoped for the best. After about five minutes, the van driver shows up, ranting. Apparently someone was late for work or something, and he spent the ride from the car rental space to the airport complaining about how unreliable everyone was. Once I got back home, I tried to call the main office to get a final receipt for reimbursement--on the call, she said my car hadn't been logged in yet (maybe the zombies took it?). The call center person said she'd email it to me once it showed in the system, but it never came. Using the website, I got a message saying it couldn't find my receipt number (perhaps this is an issue with booking via Hotwire?) But, the company wants to see the final receipt, so, I had to call a second time, with the ticket number from the first time, and ask this second person to please try to send it again. I did eventually get a receipt this time. Good price and location, but there were definitely kinks in the system here. Will think carefully about booking again. read more

Use rentalcarmomma or Costco travel to rent, AND, join the Alamo " club", whatever it's called. Definite perks, including free 2nd driver. For some reason, the cheapest car when I reserved, was a minivan! (Which was less than any other car I could find anywhere else.) They switched me to a nice Chevy SUV at no additional cost. Very fast service. The man who helped me was polite but no nonsense. Unlike many rental car locations, he did not try to up-sell me on any of the insurance or optionals, which was great. The last time I rented from National, I rented in the "Premium" category and got to choose my vehicle from the lot. This time I rented an Economy vehicle and didn't get to choose the car. The worker didn't even bother asking me what I wanted before leaving to pull it around from the front. Fortunately I heard him mention to his colleague that he was going to get a Jetta, which suited me fine, so I didn't have to stop him and ask. Still, I was disappointed that he didn't ask me for my vehicle preference or tell me what my options were - or even tell me there was only one option. When I rent a car, I am more interested in the actual model of vehicle I'm going to drive as opposed to what it's broad category is. This National/Alamo was well-stocked with vehicles. I saw a lot of cars while I was there from many different brands. The two people who were there when I was rented a GMC Yukon and a Nissan Altima. There was definitely a larger selection of vehicles than what I expected to find at Hartford airport. My car was in good condition, but the only disappointing thing was that it didn't have cruise control. I don't believe this is the case with all cars in this category (the standard Jetta doesn't come with cruise control, although many cars that size do), but even if it is, it never occurred to me that a car would be without cruise control. I definitely wish I had known because I would have requested another vehicle and even upgraded in order to have it. read more

I haven't rented a car in 10 years. We set this up through Costco. The car was clean on the outside but the windows were absolutely filthy with dried on soap. The agent gave us no checkout/explanation of the Cadillac features. Not only did he not turn on the AC, he set it to heat! Car was already hot from sitting in the sun. Agent was abrupt and couldn't wait to get rid of us after we refused upgrade (with extra fee) to a BMW. The employee at the gate didn't seem to know the simple directions to get to the city. I made a reservation with their "sister" company about a month before my trip. The rate was a bit high but I do hold Executive Status with them. About a week before the trip I went onto Travelocity and got a rate that was approximately $80 less for the same size car. The shuttle service was great to and from the lot. The counter help was great (although I did use the terminal machine to rent the car). The car was great and everything went well. The return was easy. (05/30/20) I have rented many times from the airport this place has been a nightmare. I was suppose to rent a car. A friend drove me there which was coming with me on the trip. I couldn't rented under my name due to credit card problem. So since my friend was already coming with me he rented it under his name. As the only driver. It was only a 4 hr drive. The man at the counter insisted that I be put in it too. We said no there was no point. We left and forgot my friends car was standard. So we left the lot with the rental. Just outside the place, he went back in to get his car so he can leave it in the parking lot outside by Alamo. So we can just drive and come back later. Guy at Alamo started screaming at him saying I couldn't drive it. When I was clearly on the passenger seat outside. My friend just told he was putting his car out in the parking lot since I couldn't drive it. Leaving back the car he had put a restriction on his drivers license saying I drove. It's ridiculous. Even though my friend tried to explain to him what was happening he just keep yelling and threatening my friend. I would never rent from this place again. read more

My airline jacked me up for an extra $150 for changing departure locations, but thanks to an awesome young man named Freddie, Alamo didn't do that. The car was great but the representative tried to pull a fast one and give me a 2 door vehicle when ordered and researched a better model specific to my luggage needs. He didn't seem concerned with the paperwork I was holding. He instead tried to upgrade me to an SUV and wasted my time, no doubt resulting in a kickback to him and the company. I reserved and paid for a full size rental prior to my trip to Connecticut. I had a choice of a Nissan Altima, that's it. After driving it for about 30 minutes my wife found a dirty cup in the door. I tried to was the front windshield and found the wiper blades were worn out, also the front right turn signal was not working. What I found the next morning in the daylight was large scuff marks on the drivers door and roof. I also found a winter glove on the drivers floor, the passenger floor mat missing and a cigarette burn on the drivers side rear seat. Oh, the brakes made noise too. read more
