I had to cancel my flight to Bradley due to weather in Denver - the departure time kept getting pushed back and I wasn't willing to arrive at 2am. When I tried to modify my car rental reservation to a later date, the Expedia agent I got ahold of through chat (I could not get a live person on the phone through Thrifty's customer service) told me we were too close to our reservation time and there was nothing we could do. I understand not being able to cancel, but to not even allow me to change the reservation to a later date is really poor customer service. I had to book a last minute trip for a family funeral and we landed after 9pm. After seeing the reviews, I was a little worried about the service we would get but it was all for not. There was only one agent working when we arrived and the line of people picking up cars was on the longish side. It took quite a while to get to the counter and this part was a serious drag, but once we did, we had a super easy time getting everything done. The car was ok, nothing special for a mid size. I rented from Thrifty this week as back in September I had rented from them with no issues. I always had the car up myself as their cost is outrageous if you don't handle yourself. I dropped my rental off early this morning with a full tank of gas. I subsequently received an updated receipt charging me a little over $10 for gas, with service fees etc. added that brought the total up to $29.00. Needless to say I was quite aggravated. We came in after a grueling Red Eye flight (Sat. 7/8 7a). We knew what size car we reserved and were hoping for an upgrade when we arrived based on the online availability. Not only did we get an upgrade, but the staff there were the friendliest we ever encountered. This was the best and most efficient service we have ever received at a Thrifty. Thrifty is terrible company to do business with. My debacle started February 17, 2024 and I have been fighting it since. I was charged for Liability Insurance Supplement (LIS) which I denied the coverage and the counter agent told me it was a security deposit and would it be taken off after the rental was completed. I told her again I did not want it but she said she had no choice and that it had to be added. This was just the beginning of my troubles with Thrifty. Here's what my family and I had to go through: * I was charged for LIS when I denied it. * The car I rented was not there. I was given a lame excuse that since the Daytona 500 was going on all the rentals were out. I made that reservation 8 months earlier! My car should have been there. * I was given the option of an open bed truck. I refused since my granddaughter had no place to sit and it was pouring rain and our luggage would get soaked. * I needed a car seat for my granddaughter and I was told to go to the rack and pick one out. * The first car my son went to look at after we refused the truck smelled marijuana. Does the company not pull that from the lot? That car was rented and driven off the lot about a half hour later after we brought that to the attendant's attention. * I could not drive the car from the premises since I did not have the "Gold Star" on my license as required by Florida law. Another mistake the counter agent made. This delayed us another half hour to forty-five minutes while we went back and cancelled the paperwork in my name and had it put in my son's name. * There are no phone numbers to call for a customer agent and when I finally did get through (I used their emergency number because I go so frustrated), I was told I needed to wait until the charges went through. After submitting a complaint through there website and corresponding with two "customer service" agents Thrifty still refused to reimburse me the $111.16 for the wrongful charge. To me, Thrifty is not a customer-oriented company. The rental was done through Priceline and I tried to elicit their help but they kept at arm's length. After finding out my rental was over $120 more that if I did it myself, I understand why Priceline didn't want to get involved. I'll never use Thrifty again and probably won't book through Priceline either! read more

I rented through Priceline and upon arrival to the rental, they said I needed to provide a credit card to have on file. I stated that I had already paid and the employee said that it would not charge my credit card, it would "only be used as collateral if I ran off with the car." Well that was not true because a day after I returned it, my card was charged $1200 (when online it stated it would only be $700, and I was assured by the employee it wouldn't be charged because I've already paid). Now I'm in a battle between Priceline and Thrifty to get my money back and only pay for what I was originally quoted for. I'm still being charged by Affirm through Priceline and thrifty has not refunded my credit card for the charges they said were not going to be applied. Nobody seems to know what they are doing at this place and the customer service is terrible. My flight was delayed till the next day and I called thrifty to let them know I would not be able to pickup my vehicle at 11:30pm due to the delay. The representative stated that I would probably lose my rental car because of this. I asked them to retime my pickup time to tomorrow and they said I would have to go through Priceline to do it who sent me back to Thrifty representative again because Priceline doesn't handle those requests. Thrifty said to retime it online however at several tries it would not allow me to retime the pickup. I called thrifty again and they stated they didn't know how to fix it and I was just going to have to deal with it. Horrible, horrible service. Obviously there can be delays in flights that nobody can predict but small accommodations for those rare instances should be made available to everyone who has to deal with them. I shouldn't be stuck without a car in a state I have never been to before because people didn't know how to do their job and retime a car pickup. Upon arrival the next morning, THANKFULLY they hadn't rented out the car I was getting (although apparently they almost did). After arrival, we had to wait over an hour to get our car because only one attendant was working. Others around us had reservations and were waiting over an hour as well to get their car when they already had a pickup time scheduled. It's just poor poor service all around. I had decided to give this company a chance because I tend to want to gather my own opinion of things. I shouldn't of ignored all the terrible online reviews of this company. They had a special on electric vehicles, so I figured I'd give it a shot. I told him I never used one before, but I needed to be sure that I could charge it by plugging it in from where I was staying, because the charging stations were not going to be anywhere near me. They said "of course! No problem". Well I'm at half empty and figured I'd plug it in, and then I see that they didn't include an adapter. I called their support line, and they told me they didn't have to include an adapter. I explained the situation and how I was told I could charge from where I was staying, and customer support came back with the usual BS "I understand your frustration, but it's like getting gas for a car, it's just something you have to do." Guess I have to drive over half an hour now for this nonsense, because they lied to me. I would never have gotten this car if they had been honest with me and told me they weren't going to include an adapter, which meant I'd have to go far out of my way to go to a charging station. And another bad thing is that it's the farthest, so it has three more problems: location, location, location. I am extremely disappointed and angry with my Thrifty experience. I booked my car through Avelo when I booked my flight and my estimated amount due at pick up was $115.29. I waited 90 minutes in line to pick up my car at the airport and was charged $584.50. This is an obscene and disgusting difference. They abuse hidden fees to screw over their customers. I have also been in contact with Avelo as well because this reflects negatively in their partnership with Thrifty. Avelo responded promptly and refunded my friend and I $50 each in travel funds with their airline. Thrifty however did not respond to any of my emails and I will attach the response they sent me on Facebook messenger. I could have gotten a car through Alamo for almost $200 less and would not have had to wait in a check in line at all for them since I have utilized their services before. I had to call customer service to try tofix the problem with the name and card but wasnt allowed to fix it with this girl at this location who was the only one there at night shift picking up the phone because she wouldnt pick up the phone after a while and would have to make multiple calls to and kept ignoring us andonly picked up the phone a second time to act stupid like she just didnt talk to me we weren't allowed to resolve the issue at all never rent from her they are ghetto and rude as hell! THE worst customer service. My service date/check in was 9/30/19 around 8:30AM and the service reps were unprofessional and impolite. I had the notion because I use Thrifty in Guatemala (and they're very good), they might be ok here stateside. Not at this location. I'll stick with the biggies (Hertz, Budget, National) and be on my way. Thank you. After failing to staff-up in advance of a large number of reservations coming in on early flights, the facility was only staffed with two individuals who was very snarky, the other who stood around for comedic purposes and wasn't able to process the other guests. After perturbing a customer who was hoping for the Nissan Versa, and didn't receive it, and didn't understand way, he preceded to inappropriately advise the folks lobby that they're always under staffed, and that Thrifty fails to pay attention to this concern. Well that's obvious. (that customer blew up outside, inappropriate, indeed, but it could have been easily mitigaged). After waiting 40 minutes, I had had it, and when I approached the desk wanted to simply get out of there and be on my way. My hurry was met with more snark, and the representative processed me in a very rude fashion. He failed to let me know that our car return had to be at Hertz since we had an early flight, a fact they don't let you know since they don't open until 6:00 AM on Sundays. We had to call customer service to find this out, when we could have been advised up front that if we arrive to catch an early flight, they wouldn't be open, and we would need to go to Hertz down the street for return processing. Our flight was at 5:50 AM so we arrived at the Thrifty facility 4:00 AM. They were, as mentioned, we closed, we spoke to customer service via phone they at least were helpful and told us that the arrangement at the other rental car location. If only Thrifty could be as professional as Hertz was in processing our return. A nice, bright and shiny and OPEN terminal. We were relieved that the rep on the phone saw the note in the Thrifty system on this or I am not sure what we would have done. Miss our flight until they open? I echo other sentiments here. I'd recommend against using Thrifty BDL if you have another similarly-priced option, ESPECIALLY if you "might" need an EZ pass but are unsure of how much you'll use it. Their EZ Pass Policy ($12 device rental/day including tolls no cap) causes them to CHARGE WAY MORE than Budget's policy ($3/day + tolls with a cap of $15 per month + tolls). This amounts to a 'hidden fee' because it's not like you're going to re-rent a car when they spring this on you at the counter. When questioning this policy and asking for a refund, the staff was unforgiving and, uninformed, and unkind which makes me assume they will be similarly hostile if you have any issues with your bill. I have a lot of bad luck so I was expecting a one star experience from the other Yelps, but my experience was superb. Connecticut is a lovely place but it isn't know for being the friendliest state, but the staff at pick-up and drop-off were extremely friendly, courteous, and professional. The car was in great shape and there was even an apology letter in the car for the exterior appearance (apparently they couldn't do wash because of the freezing temperatures). The tires needed some air before we drove off (I guess someone missed the warning light) and they were super apologetic and the service was speedy. Be aware, this particular location does not come out to inspect the car with you. Husband asked her to come out for inspection and she said "we don't do that anymore". There was a crack in the windshield that was hidden by the inspection sticker. When we returned the car, they charged us $155 for the windshield. Funny thing is they honed in on that exact spot as soon as we got back, like they were expecting it to be cracked. AND DO NOT under any circumstances pull the lever on the toll transponder, it will activate it for the daily rate. Even if you don't go over a toll road. We just got a bill for $47, 2 weeks after our rental was returned. I will never recommend this company to anyone. The car was filthy and covered with bugs, but the selection was low and we had plans and couldn't waste any more time. It cost us $567 for a $365 prepaid rental. read more

I reserved a full -size car advertised as a Ford Taurus. I was going to do a lot of driving and wanted a comfortable highway cruiser that would fit my 6'7" frame. When I got to the service counter they told me that they did not have Ford Taurus's at this location and offered me an older Ford Fusion. Besides having a small 4 cylinder engine, it did not have the legroom that the advertised car had. They told me that the Fusion was in the same car class as the Taurus. Totally not true.... They then offered me a older Dodge Minivan. It clearly had seen better days. I refused this vehicle and took my business elsewhere. Please be aware of Thrifty's advertisements when booking cars. This only gets a 1 star because "0 STARS" isn't an option!!!! Worst rental experience ever. Specifically this was a THRIFTY rental but is addressed under the HERTZ umbrella apparently. I prepaid with a debit card through Expedia and when attempting to pick up the car was told they will not accept a debit card for the security deposit. A second employee then told me the same thing. I asked to speak to a manager and he repeated the no debit card "rule." It became clear he was not going to figure this out. No was no, apparently. I asked for a corporate number to call and did so. The rep pulled up my reservation and rental location and gave me the instructions to "show my return flight ticket" and they will take my debit card. We recorded the audio in order to show that Corporate had ok'd it. Went back in, had to wait 10 more minutes for them to "find" the manager. A different manager came out and I had to explain the whole thing again. Then HE repeated that they don't take debit cards. And that's that. Again, no options, no solutions. At this point the original "manager" came out again along with the "General Manager." Once again I had to plead my case as these 3 guys basically dismissed me and my efforts to remedy a problem. I played him the recording which also said to have HIM call the corporate number to work it out. He said he "didn't need to call because he knows the rules." His tone was condescending and short, and it became clear he had no interest in working towards a resolution. We asked for his name. With a very patronizing and sarcastic response to us as he wrote "Kevin O" on a piece of paper. He said he doesn't give out his full last name. Really? I've never heard of a GM being secretive with his identity. Needless to say we left without a car. My sister and I flew in to visit our father who has stage 4 cancer which is stressful enough. We certainly didn't need to add such a cold, rude, unhelpful customer service experience to our itinerary. I have been involved in aviation for 35 years and this experience is certainly going to be a case study in TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE in my training workshops. I had a very negative experience with Thrifty car rental. I was quoted a specific price before agreeing to rent from Thrifty, and was never notified of a different price. They added a large number of additional charges, some of which I had explicitly declined, which resulted in the total bill being nearly triple the agreed-upon price. The end of August my wife and I flew into Bradley Airport in Windsor, CT for a week to take care of some business. We also planed to also visit relatives in Maine for a few days. When we arrived at Bradley Airport we realized that we forgot our EZ-Pass for tolls going to Maine. When we arrived at Thrifty Car rental the woman at the counter asked if we needed an EZ-Pass for any tolls, we told her yes but she never explained the COST!!! The tolls up and back to Maine from CT. was at most $10.00. We were charged a rate of $11.99 per day for 7 days totaling $87.46 with tax. Talk about a rip off, SO BEWARE.
