Because their work seems essentially like engineering, it's easy to think of optometrists as purely utilitarian: they adjust the dials, ask you to read a line, and tweak until they've narrowed down your very concrete and mathematical prescription. But it SHOULD matter whether your optometrist is friendly, trustworthy, and patient. You're trusting them with a mission-critical part of your body, and dealing with deteriorating vision, dizziness, fatigue, or transitioning to contacts demands a lot of empathy and communicativeness on the part of your doctor. Dr. Kenny at Eye Appeal is a truly excellent optometrist by all those measures. Her office is modern but homey; her office staff--particularly Mark, the optician--are outgoing, knowledgeable, and intuitive; and she is extremely thorough and able to talk in a layperson's language with no hint of condescension or impatience. She actually seems passionate about eye care, and doesn't just go through the motions. On my second visit, I asked to be fitted for contact lenses, and I felt so comfortable and supported during my VERY (abnormally) long session. For more than an hour, through probably a hundred failed attempts at putting my new contacts in, Dr. Kenny remained upbeat and provided consistently reassuring and detailed feedback. It would be easy to feel embarrassed about not being able to do something 36 million Americans do every day, but Dr. Kenny's good attitude saved me from getting overly frustrated. Best of all--though this is likely the practice elsewhere as well--all my return visits for my new contacts, be it just one checkup or three or four go-rounds at trying different brands and prescriptions, are included in the very reasonable consultation fee. Full disclosure, though: I can't vouch for the quality of Eye Appeal's eyewear selection or turnaround, as I've never purchased glasses there, but things like that typically come down to personal taste anyway.

The receptionist was friendly & social. The optician, Mark, was excellent when measuring my daughter for her first pair of glasses. My daughter didn't want to leave and asked when we could come back! ROC Vision had an easy to use website with online scheduling. I was able to schedule something for the next day. I checked in at my scheduled time and was promptly greeted by the friendly lady working the front desk. No wait, straight to some eye measurements. The whole process was efficient. Dr. Lee was pleasant and had a good bedside manner. He explained everything clearly and performed a thorough retina exam. I would definitely return. The fact that it's in a Costco, also helps. Don't forget to bring a designated driver, if you intend to get your pupils dilated.

The exam was conducted professionally, efficiently, and courteously. Dr. Lee was very good at explaining each step of the way and he demonstrated mastery of the equipment and test procedures. I chose to go with the optional retina imaging and he immediately identified a retinal tear in one of my eyes. He then sent the info over to my retina doctor (I've had a couple of retinal tears in the past) and I was able to have it repaired the next day. It did not cover tge "special drops for eyes" about $100.00. Also didn't cover surgery center-$300 I went at my eye drs recommenadation. At my 3 or 4th visit Surgeon said because my astigmatism in both eyes a reg surg would not give me the result (no glasses) but for $1300 per lense I could get a toric lense (not covered by ins) implanted which corrects that.All had to be paid up front. I am retired on ssi and not a lot of extra money----but I said since I am only going to do this ONE time ok.After about a month both eyes were done With multiple eye dr appts copay is for specialist for eye drs. Anyway I did all this because I figured if no longer need flasses.... Long story short I went fo glasses my opt gave a script for driving glasses and needed reading glasses. This was not what I signed up for. I tried it-as I had no choice, but went back and told him-I could not my computer with either. I spent $2600 out of pocket to have my cataract replaced with a Vivity lens that was supposed to…read moregive me good distance vision and decreased halos at night. What I got was an eye that cannot see clearly from 6 feet+. What happened? The doctor said that he made the decision to make my eye nearsighted because I had lasik surgery 20 years ago. This new plan was NEVER discussed with me prior to my surgery. I would have never approved this, as i wanted clear distance vision and was prepared to wear glasses for reading. What I'm left with is vision that requires glasses for ALL distances! And the lens cannot be removed and replaced. So I'm out of $2600 plus I have poor vision. I pursued a second opinion from an expert doctor in another town and he said that he would never have put a Vivity lens in my eye. And to make it all worse, Cornerstone recommended laser to remove scar tissue on my lens capsule. This was a simple procedure and I had not yet received my Second Opinion. Following that surgery, I had absolutely no improvements in my vision AND I had a negative side effect of increased floaters and a dangerous side effect of increased eye pressure and a chance of retinal damage and loss of vision! (Vitreous prolapse). At my followup for the laser surgery Cornerstone did not even talk to me about the vitreous prolapse! Stay away from Cornerstone Eye Associates! They did not listen to my wishes (which were clearly charted) and they did not take responsibility for my botched eye that is permanent!
