Alba vineyard has some of the best wines! I absolutely love their dessert wines. Everytine we visit them we bring back a box of wine. Try their red raspberry, blueberry, white mansail, dolcini, apple one, so many wonderful selection. We have done their chocolate and wine tour as well. The tour is sweet and small. You get to taste couple of wines and you get to keep the glass. We have introduced a lot of friends also about Alba! Take tour and experience it. Do not forget to get the red raspberry dessert wine. I do plenty of wine tastings. Over time I understand things change however, not drastically. By no means should a wine tasting here be $45-$55 depending on your choice. Not only is it expensive, they are not super hospitable there. During our trip my wife and I were the only 2 there and the staff was not very engaging. Another big issue for us is they are the farthest thing from kid/family friendly, not even on their outside events. I've been tasting in the finger lakes with much better wine and wasn't nearly as expensive. read more

Very rude and arrogant people who run this place... absolutely worst experience. You come to the winery to relax and unwind, enjoy a glass of wine spectacular views and a good atmosphere... instead you are greeted at the door by person who throws a bunch of rules on you before you even enter tasting room, get told that the vineyards are closed to public so the only place to hang out is the above mentioned tasting room. Well... needless to say it wasn't the experience we were looking for... p.s. just to clarify- we are very familiar with the wines they make and it's not our first visit but it was probably the worst one. read more

My friends and I traveled over 50 miles to visit and unfortunately, it did meet our expectations AT all. As soon as we walked in, we were looked at as if we had 3 heads and 5 eyeballs. There is NO reason for my guests and I to feel like outcasts due to their patrons and employees' awful stares and glares. The service was extremely poor from start to finish as well. The wine and food were okay at best. Most of the vineyard was closed off due to COVID. I would not recommend this vineyard to ANYONE who is looking for a complete and fulfilling experience. I visited this winery as part of the Wine Train Tour (see my review for the Warren County Wine Train) back in June 2008. My friends and I were lucky because aside from another couple who was present (they got to the winery by car not by train) there were only five of us for the tour and wine tasting. So, we had the staff's undivided attention which I love! This was a plus because the winery is very small and because of our small group we were able to walk around comfortably and had the chance to taste everything they had to offer (certain wines are pre-selected for bigger groups). A favorite of mine is their 2006 Riesling which I also bought for a birthday gift (my cousin and her husband loved it!). And their dessert wine is pretty good too, particularly, Forbidden. The staff was really nice and helpful and the property is beautiful and well maintained. They also have special events you can attend for Mother's Day, Father's Day, etc. (check their site for more information). I am not someone who leaves bad reviews; I understand the struggle that companies face and am empathic to their issues. With that being said my friends and I walked away thinking how very disappointing our experience was and it's a shame that the level of service does not compliment the rest of the facility. The wine was good, the food was very good and the people at the café were great! However, the service from the people from the vineyard was terrible. After our group of 6 each purchased numerous wine flights and 6 additional bottles of wine we were treated as if it was a bother for us to be there. The place was slow and you would think they would appreciate the business but no, they made us feel unwelcomed and rushed us out and not in a subtle way, they literally told us that they close at 5pm and, even though most of the people were outside, we were waiting on one person using the restroom and we were there on 'their time' now. It such a shame that this was the experience that we had at the vineyard. When we tried to explain the situation to the person at the counter he just refused to see our point in the matter and just continued to rush us out of the door. We got the point that you don't care and now neither do we, we will definitely not be returning. In following up, I reached out to the vineyard and spoke with the people there to explain the situation. The response was unfortunate as all I got was told about how it was our fault for staying a few minutes past their closing time. I hate to leave a review like this, especially during these times, but at the end of the day it's justified based on the service we received. read more

I'm on my way to Pocono, PA on the weekend and decide to stop by a local winery. What a surprised find when I arrive at the Alba! A good transitional winery. Wine tasting is $10 per person to try 8 kinds of wine with a small plate of cheese, crackers, and one piece of dark chocolate. A lot of gold metal wines and 90+ points wines here. My favorite wines are: Gewürztraminer & Riesling for the white wine Heritage & Pinot Noir for the red wine Red raspberry & Vintage Port are both good dessert wine Heritage is probably one of the best wines here in my opinion with strong berry aroma and 30 months in a French oak- definitely a playful & flavorful wine. Gewürztraminer is another interesting wine. It gets this very distinguished spicy flavor. I just wish I have this one when I was eating sushi & Thai curry at an Asian Fusion restaurant. There is a good outdoor seating area and a small hill up to see vineyard. read more

Beautiful scenery. Wine is good. All the pizza's are burnt, if you like that. The seating is in a pit, so you don't get to see the scenery. If you are a walk in: The process stinks. You are told you can wait 5 mins or hours, they can't tell you. And once they have a seat for you, they won't let you enter until all the people from inside finish buying their wine, and the outside people who are let in that are buying the wine. So, you can stand there all day waiting to pay to get in, after they call you. The whole time we were there, there were empty seats not being filled; and the people were outside waiting......They need a better system. read more

There was a wine tasting festival (i.e. a classy drunk festival) here that among other things featured a small tour of the winery and tastings of well their wines as well as several other places. I eventually, after trying a few too many wines I assume, bought one of their Gewürztraminer. While it was a bit pricey (something in the upper 30s maybe?) it's hard for me to avoid a good Gewurtz. Flavors were excellent, enjoyed by everyone at a family gathering. Tour was OK, same with the people. I'm giving it a 4 mostly for the wine. If I seriously thought of this more, maybe a 3 due to service? read more

Beautiful grounds. The hours are a bit strange though and you do have to sign up ahead of one for a tour. Most vineyards you can walk in and there's usually tours Avila me but not here. Do not ever bring your 4 legged friends to this winery. We had our 2 big labs with us for a weekend camping trip and we decided to stop at this vineyard. While shawneee was a great sommelier and directed us to the best wines that we would enjoy based on our tastes and prior winery experience , the information we recvd about our dogs being on the property was false. My husband and I went out to let our dogs out for one second from our jeep to make sure they were ok after a wine tasting we paid for, and we were yelled at immediately about having them there after shawnee said it was ok to let then out for a minute for our jeep to check on them. And he was very rude about it and unfriendly. We won't go back here again just for this. we understand you have rules and they are strict, but at no time was there a strict reinforcement regarding pets posted on your doors when we entered. So, there are many more vineyards elsewhere that we can and have enjoyed with our boys who are friendly to pets and we are always welcome thank you for having us, however, we wil not be returning. The wines were decent, the pizza was good and the live music was great. Not very friendly owners. There are better wineries in NJ and many of them are dog friendly and more accommodating. Also we were yelled at leaving because our wine glasses had 2 drips left in them on the way to our vehicles, not even a sip left. Although a very pretty landscape, we were disappointed in this winery. Especially after being at Sandcastle. They only gave you 4 tastings and the wine wasn't all that good. Around same price as Sandcastle and I believe we got 12 tastings of a much better caliber of wine and a better selecton. Also, it was raining and humid and we were told we couldn't sit inside at the nice front room. So we got soaked running in and out. We ordered food. Pizza was good, but they wouldn't come take our orders or serve us. So we had to run back and forth in rain. They said they didn't have servers. But we were only people there and there was a woman that really wasn't doing anything. I made a comment about putting them on Yelp and then she wound up bringing pizzas. She claimed she was trying to be nice. So overall, I'd go to Sandcastle down the road. They are so nice, atmosphere fabulous. Wine very good. And they give us overviews of each wine and recipes/ foods that pair well with wines. read more

Alba has built a new tasting room and seems to be very welcoming for visitors. My wife and I signed up for the tastings. First thing you'll notice is you sample 8 wines for $15. But the samples are barely a taste. The dispenser drops out maybe two tablespoons. I would prefer 4 wines with more volume. Still, it was pleasant sipping the various wines and chatting with friendly staff. You can receive a nice chocolate with your red tasting. Ask nicely. At the finish you keep your stemless wine glasses. For our second part we headed outdoor to enjoy the music and drink a bottle of wine. Simply buy the bottle inside and use those free glasses. They have a selection of food, did not sample. Altogether it is a pleasant place. Next time I'll skip the tasting and head outside. For cooler weather there is a large indoor space. New facility has been open about 3 months. read more

Took my parents here for a private wine tour for their 50th anniversary and I will never come here again after the service we received. First, we called ahead (TWICE) to make sure we were allowed to pay for 2 on a private tour. They said that a minimum of 4 people had to be paid for, but that we could use the remaining $30 ($15 per person) as a credit so they could purchase bottles of wine after. We said that was fine and made our reservation. The ONLY reason that I'm giving this review more than one star is because the tour guide (I believe her name was Allison) was really professional and courteous and my parents had a great time with her. Everything after is why the rating is so low. After the tour my parents go to purchase some wine and we pay for their tour. When ringing us up the manager or owner told us rather rudely that we would have to pay for 4. After explaining that 2 different employees told us we could use the other $30 as credit he begins arguing saying, "That's not our policy." Fair enough, maybe there was a miscommunication and the employees messed up, it happens. So we politely tell him that we will pay the $60 because my parents had a nice time, but that he should refresh his staff about the policy. Instead of just saying thanks or alright, he begins screaming at my sister (who is a teenager, by the way), "My staff would NEVER tell you that EVER! Don't try to make up some story to get out of paying full price! I stand by my staff!" She ran out in TEARS because this man was being such a jerk. Needless to say, we paid the $60 and told him that he lost over a $150 sale of bottles of wine because of his inappropriate and unprofessional attitude. If you're looking for a winery in the area, there are much more professional ones than this one. Don't waste your time for bad service! read more

This place was terrible. My fiancé and I went on a Sunday afternoon and paid almost $70 for 2 flights that came in little plastic glasses. We decided to just get a glass and walk around the grounds, they once again gave us a glass of wine in a tiny PLASTIC cup. Huge turn off. Grounds are beautiful but we will not return. read more

I ended up here yesterday after an abortive attempt to hike nearby. It was pouring out and there was no seeming end to it all. I saw signs for a vineyard and thought "what the hell." I was glad I did. On top of all the signage outside essentially saying "Come here because we're awesome," I found a very charming and beautiful property. I didn't explore much of the outdoor area because of rain, but the little picnic area and the restored farm buildings were beautiful and quaint. Inside, I was a lone wino and took a tasting. It was $10, but you got a nice selection and a decent amount of each sample--along with a liberal understanding of what "8 tastes" means. The girl behind the counter was well versed on their wines and a pleasure to chat with--especially on a crappo rainy weekday. The reds are, perhaps, my favourite reds of the area. A lot of local Chambourcin has a weak nose and a less-than-full body--not so with Alba's wines. The Riesling is a winner--semi-sweet but not clawing like German Rieslings tend to be. I look forward to checking this place out on a weekend when it's not pouring rain, perhaps during one of their festivals. So, basically, all the signage outside is correct: This is a pretty great winery. read more

Terrific winery not too far from the PA border. Wasn't aware NJ made such fantastic wines. On our way to another winery (which shall remain nameless) we passed by this place...we stopped in and were pleasantly surprised. $10 for 8-10 different wine tastes. The young woman who assisted us was down to earth, funny and very helpful. They give you a small plate of cheese and crackers during the tasting. Their wines were very good but the experience was a memorable one. It moved at our own pace. Their prices for a bottle were good depending on what you wanted. The only downside was they didn't let us keep the glasses which knocked off 1 star. Otherwise a great experience and recommend you to stop in if you are on a tasting tour or near the area. We were visiting Alba from out of state (Illinois), as part of a vacation to see a friend who lives in northern NJ. We are retired, and are members of several California wine clubs. So in all modesty we know a thing or two about wines. We have been to wineries in several other states which like New Jersey are not particularly well-known for their wines, such as Illinois, Wisconsin, and Missouri and have almost universally been disappointed. So to say the least, based on our previous experiences we were a bit skeptical about Alba before we first arrived. Well, as you can see from my five star rating, we thought Alba was just terrific. We visited on a Saturday afternoon, and the tasting room was comfortably busy, with maybe five or ten other people also doing tastings. In our opinion the wines, the grounds, the tasting experience, the staff, and everything else about Alba were very much "in the game" when compared to the dozens of California wineries we have visited, and the hundreds of California wines we have tasted. The only aspect of our visit which could have been improved was the size of the tastings. They are inappropriately small....roughly thimble sized as one reviewer noted. They are also pre-measured via fixed portion stoppers inserted jnto each bottle when opened, presumably so that all servers pour exactly the same amount. The tastes should be at least twice as large, if not more. Their size gives you the impression that Alba owners are cheapskates, which maybe they are. Who knows. Despite this, the size of the pours was not enough for me to downgrade my rating. I still say Alba is five stars. Kudos to the Alba team. read more

The wines here are terrific. They make REAL wines not just junky sweet stuff. We live to drink good dry reds. We did a pairing with dark chocolate truffles and their port before and it blew us away. Absolutely beautiful property. The staff (I believe the son of the owners) was so pleasant, helpful, welcoming and humble. He treated us with respect and attentiveness while still giving us the personal space to chat alone and take our own tour of the property. Did the wine sampling and left with 3 bottles! All of the wine was excellent. We will be back without a doubt! This is a must see for anyone who enjoys wines and vineyards. read more

After quite a bit of roaming around and calling directly to find the vineyard, after the web map took us to the wrong address (a field in fact), I have to say I was not impressed. A couple friends and I had been touring around various vineyards in PA / NJ that weekend and Alba was definitely our least favorite. We did a tasting, which was $10, and although they pretty much let us taste as many of the wines that we wanted, they poured hardly enough to even get a good taste in our glasses. I did like that they gave us some snacks to pair with the wines, but overall we just were not that into our experience. Maybe it just wasn't for us, but I enjoyed other places much more and I didn't LOVE any of their wines. On a positive note, the vineyards in back were beautiful and it looked as if they were about to host a very beautiful event out among the vines. read more

Alba Vineyard is a beautiful scenic location. We were lucky to attend a June 2012 wedding at the vineyard on a perfect afternoon, we parked and strolled through the rows if grape vines until we reached an amazing hilltop view of the surrounding vineyard, there was a harp playing and chairs set up for the wedding overlooking the mountains and beautiful vineyard. It was perfect! This is my third visit to Alba which has a nice variety of wine, we just love their slightly sweet Riesling, a perfect choice and reasonably priced. The staff in the cool wine cellar was very nice too. I know Alba has a good calendar of events, so perhaps take a scenic drive in the country and enjoy what Alba has to offer. There were five us that stopped by the Alba Vineyards for a wine tasting during their Wine & Chocolate event on 2/11! The wines were absolutely delicious, along with the small plate of goodies (meatball, mushroom soup, chocolate cake) and chocolate truffles, mmmm! The raspberry truffles were my fave paired with the raspberry wine that I just had to buy! We had two ladies for our tasting, who provided us with great insight on the various wines and the vineyard. All in all we sampled about ten wines and I picked my three faves -- the Pinot Noir (never was big on the reds, until they paired it up with the meatball and the soup), Riesling, and the raspberry wine. Definitely looking forward to venturing out there again for their next event! read more

If I could give zero stars I would. Extremely over priced. The tasting flight I got was $32 and it was maybe a sip per taste. 4 very small samples and no explanation of what you are drinking or the effort put into making the wine (which is the whole point of doing a wine tasting) we were the only people in the place and were told we couldn't move our table due to social distancing but there was no one else around to distance ourselves. We would have happily enjoyed two more bottles of wine but decided against it because of the attitude we received and the unwelcome vibes that were radiating through the entire business. Will not be returning and will be telling all of our friends about this terrible experience. Over $80 wasted on a 20 minute hot sweaty experience. 10/10 do not recommend. read more

We came with a group of friends for a food truck and tasting event. The event was well managed and we all had a great time. $10 entry per person and $10 for a tasting. The tasting gave you a glass, and 6 tasting tickets. The tasting was well managed, we hardly waited at all and the pourer was very knowledgeable about the wines. We, like our friends, purchased a bottle and walked the lawn to inspect the food trucks. There was definitely something for everyone, even us vegetabletarians. We brought our food back to enjoy with wine, great company, and a really good band. We explored the very nice property and were very happy we came out here for the day. Rude and racist! Such an unwelcoming place! We were10 of us going on a Sunday and we called over a week in advance and were told that they were unable to book a table for that size because they were already booked, but we could come and get perhaps 2 tables, after maybe a short wait. We were ok with that. We drove over an hour and a half and the 5 couples who reached about 5 minutes from each other, ALL felt the racist attitude. It was thus not just our imagination, if all 10 of us felt the same. And while we were there politely asking them to let us in, even on 2 separate tables, we were refused rudely, BUT a walk-in of 4 white people were given access. A lady, perhaps in her 60's seemed to be an owner and was beyond disrespectful, rude, impolite and discourteous! read more

Terrific wine at a great price. The wine tasting and tour are fun, if you live locally and have visitors, this is a great idea for an outing. Purchasing a minimum of two cases of wine annually entitles you to become a member of their VIP club with additional benefits. There are quite a few wineries in this area of PA/NJ, and Alba is, without a doubt, my favorite. read more

Hospitality 9/10 Wine 7/10 Some of the wines here are really good I just feel they are a bit over priced. We bought a bottle of their Heritage wine which is really good but for $37 ......meh. The tasting was fun. Cost is $10 which is similar to other Vineyards but the difference here is you get a small cheese and cracker plate. They also gave us some chocolate when tasting the dessert wines. Tasting room is so beat. They mentioned they are building a new space. Its dark, damp and cold. Really nice winery for the New Jersey/Pennsylvania region. Alba Vineyard is located a stone's throw away from the Delaware River. Wine is an agricultural product that is highly influenced by the region that it grows in. Being right near the Delaware, Alba is able to take advantage of the unique soil deposits left by the Delaware during its creation. As such, you will find many wineries in this special region. Driving into the winery, you are immediately greeted by the main winery house. It is a beautiful wooden and brick building. To the right of the winery house, there is a partially ruined barn(?) where there are tables for you to sit. When we went, they were playing music which helped add to the atmosphere. You have a choice of different tours including two private type tours (reservations are required a week in advance) and a regular tour. We took the "Private Tour and Tasting." However there is a higher priced Winemaker Tour. The Private Tour we took consisted of a guided tour and a wine tasting with some small snacks. As an added bonus, we were able to keep our etched glasses. The tour started with history of the vineyard and all about the grapes they grow. There was a wedding right in the vineyard so we weren't able to see the vineyard up close. Our guide then brought us to where they make the wine and gave us lots of information about all the processes from the picking to the bottling. Our guide was extremely informative as well as genuinely amiable and humorous. We then ended the tour with tastings of various wines of theirs. We tried different wines from white, red, and dessert wines. One of the standouts in my opinion was their Gewürztraminer. Excellent spiciness and fruitiness. They also had a really nice ice wine (although their process is not the traditional ice on vine) which had the nice honey notes one expects from ice wines. Overall, the winery was fantastic. I've been on other wine tours and this one was significantly better than the other tours I've been on. The wines may not have been the best I have ever had, however considering that New Jersey really isn't prime wine growing country I was not expecting that. The wines were much better than expected however. I definitely recommend going and taking a tour! read more

I always make a stop at Alba when I'm going on my usual Central NJ wine route. They have some good, bodied wine! Tasting area is very cool and a $10 tasting comes with a cheese plate with dried fruit. Very much worth it. On the weekends, they serve a special treat to go with one of the pours (the beef wellington was amazing). Chocolate mousse with their port? Yum. I believe Alba is family-owned. We stopped by one Friday and the owner's son walked us through the history of the estate and shared some of his knowledge on the winemaking business. I've only been here in the colder months but Alba looks like a fun place to hang out in the warmer months. There is a sweet seating area next to the tasting room which has space for outdoor entertainment/performers. I can't wait to go back! read more
