I had toothache issues due to sensitivity and with may be fracture in one adjacent tooth. I had got a new crown stalled 2 months back in my home country after which the issue started. The Doctor 'Tariq Malik' was highly impatient listening about the issue with what happened in the past. I went there with lots of hope and thoughts in mind what I would tell him, but he literally said: ' I am not interested in listening to the story' and wanted specific answers to his questions. I was disappointed but still said OK. Initially he did not ask any questions and sent me straight to x-ray with a promise he will listen later. The x-ray of all the 30 teeth taking more than 30 mins were completely useless and waste of time when I had issue with just one tooth. That all because he did not have 2 mins to listen to the issue first. Anyways, he came back again, and I thought now I should be able to tell him about my experience so he can diagnose properly. But again he said - "I want answers to specific questions only". He asked questions like - which crown you had issues? , Did you go back to your dentist?, Do you feel pain in chewing? To which I said yes I do feel pain and then without listening further he concluded - oh thats because your tooth is hitting the cheek. Oh seriously, because I did not feel that way and it was indeed the issue for my sensitivity pain with cold water which he did not bother to listen or understand. He only listened when I protested a bit but later I lost hope on if he would be able to resolve it and returned back with the fear that I may loose another tooth and get grinded unnecessarily otherwise. In short, I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE TO VISIT THERE UNLESS YOU HAVE A VERY MINUTE ISSUES OF CLEANING RELATED. read more

I got all my wisdom teeth pulled . I also got a wonderful 6 month cleaning . They take very good care of of your teeth and just don't try and pull them out if they can be saved . read more

I have been going to Dr Malik for at least ten years. He is an excellent dentist as is his partner. The oral surgeon Dr Nam Phan is also a skilled doctor. I've seen him twice, no pain, swelling or bleeding either time. read more

Horrible! Think twice about making an appointment here. The receptionist, Sakina, is an incompetent, unpleasant individual and that is putting it nicely. What a hassle. Do not trust your teeth to these people! I never make complaints like this. For me to take the time to report a review is very unusual. Upstate Dental is bad business! I have never experienced the nonsense myself and my 18 year old son have endured at Upstate Dental! Sakina, the receptionist, is giving the dentists there a bad look! The wrong front of the house employee will bring a business down that is for sure! And she is doing just that! She does not belong working for the public! Complete narcissist! Not only is it her miserable attitude but her passive aggressiveness. She is becomes angry, vindictive and retaliates when she is called out on her careless mistakes. She will tell you the business does not take your insurance when they do, she will offer a cleaning along with your exam and then not make good on it. That's only a couple examples of her incompetence! Upstate Dental, there are a lot of capable, competent and friendly, helpful prospects out there! She probably works for peanuts. Today - 3 days prior to my appointment - I called to update the clinic about my insurance. Over the phone, they tell me they have no staff and that they need to reschedule me to their next appointment... 3 months from now.... Considering I am not a new patient and have waited 6 months for this appointment, I was clearly upset. Upon inquiring whether they can provide me with a sooner appointment, they respond "It is what it is, I can put you on a waitlist". Keep in mind, my appointment that was made 6 months ago is in 3 days and I called them first ..... I called somewhere else and got an app within the next 3 weeks. The service is not special enough to tolerate the lack of professionalism. read more

Cheap, take most insurance companies. Just don't expect any quality of care beyond cleanings. I have a recurring tooth issue that Ive been complaining about for years. I finally get a periodontist referral for another issue. I bring it up in the appt and she makes a recommendation, and the Doctor flat-out refused to be a part of solving the problem. I went to Upstate Dental for about 5 years. I was initially really happy with them because of their hygienists. Everyone I worked with was really nice and very thorough. They took the time to get to know me a bit and talk to me about my teeth and how to keep them healthy. Eventually, a previous filling needed to be replaced. Dr. Tariq Malik recommended a crown because the filling was on the larger side. I trusted what the doctor said and followed his recommendations. I recall that he told me that he was being preemptive with the crown; it wasn't absolutely critical now, but my insurance covered it in full, so I should get it before the problem got worse. Stupidly, I never thought to investigate this statement. I later talked about it with another dentist (who I felt was impartial as we were speaking as friends, not patient/customer and doctor) and they said it was very concerning and abnormal. (It was too late by that point; I'd already had the procedure.) I've always felt like the crown was not in quite right; it almost feels like a shoe whose sole has bunched up a bit, or something. It's just not quite right (I don't know how to explain it). I don't have any other crowns, though, so I have no point of comparison. Also, while I recognize it's a matter of some debate in the dental world, the doctor never discussed different types of crowns with me. I have a metal/porcelain crown. As is normal, the metal now shows a bit. I think if I had been given the option to have a crown that didn't do that, I would have chosen to do that instead. (And many dentists feel other crowns are more durable and that metal-fused crowns are not necessary.) So, my teeth were kept healthy while I was there, but for big work - get a second opinion. I had a tooth removed on Saturday and Dr. Nam Phan was courteous, efficient and had me in and out of the office in short order. Minimal pain from the novocaine. I highly recommend him to anyone and especially scared people like me! Tammie Sobieraj. read more

THIS PLACE NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN. They cancel so many appointments & leave patients with way more then tooth pain. The front receptionist, I'd give them a 1-star Max . They forget your on hold & cancel appointments when your already in the office for the appointment REGULARLY. The business manager is ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE . Shes very rude & condescending to say the least . She's not helpful but more so argumentative not wanting to hear my complaints she spoke over me & she cannot handle what her job requires when it comes to the staff or the public . A simple task of sending out dental records to another office they can't handle .... Over a month after leaving the office I still have yet to receive my patient folder nor has my NEW dentist office . This is ongoing issue with the ALBANY UPSTATE DENTAL hence why I have a new dentist . The OWNER should fire the whole front office staff & try Again . I Asked for a corporate # & The business manager told me she's in charge ... ironically she has no clue & shouldn't be working there. read more

Only came here because they took my insurance and it's walkable from home and work. I have nothing but great things to say about the hygienists. However, I've never spent more than 2 minutes with the actual dentist. He pops in, looks in my mouth and vanishes. I know I have a tooth that is partially broken, I can feel a jagged edge. I've told him, he has xrays, and he's looked in my mouth for 11 seconds yet still he ignores it. They have to farm everything out so what's the point of even going there? In October 2019 I needed a root canal, instead of the doctor whose name is on the door I saw some really old, mad scientist looking guy who didn't wear gloves during the procedure. He kept picking up his dirty phone, from the dirty counter, in his dirty hands, and texting his assistant too. Never saw him wash or sanitize once. At one point he actually physically hurt me and he and the assistant laughed at me when I brought it to their attention. A few weeks after the root canal the assistant is the one who put the crown on! I'm fairly certain it's not on properly, it's never felt right. I recently made an appt for a cosmetic procedure but said I was also seeking a 2nd opinion. They told me to call if I was NOT keeping the appt (duh) so one week before the appt they call me to say I never called them and they gave my spot away. I don't see the point of making an appointment with me if you're just giving it away at will. I didn't know I needed to call you to tell you I was keeping my appointment. It's strange they, of all places, did this because they harass the shit out of you by using every form of contact you've ever given them to confirm. Office staff is ok. They validate parking for a garage across the street. After the last few experiences I'm seeking a new dentist and can not recommend this place. read more
