Alba's Cuban Coladas - I can't even write that without drooling over the thought of these delicious coladas. I used to live in Florida where I could get a colada anytime I liked - and I missed them. This is not 'an espresso with sugar', this Colada is 3-6 shots of Cuban-style espresso sweetened with sugar while it's being brewed. It is thicker and more syrupy than a regular espresso (which I NEVER have with sugar). If you are a coffee lover, you have to try this - and luckily for us, Christina, the barista/owner REALLY knows her stuff... her coladas are some of the best I've ever had. The food is awesome! Each day there is ONE option and you'll keep going back to try them all! Her version of Ropa Vieja, served on three mini slider buns and topped with crispy matchstick potatoes is unctuous - sublime - delicious - need I say more. You have to try it. The meat is so tender and full of flavor, a secret recipe from Christina's grandmother "Alba" that ensures every morsel is alive with the spices and tomatoes it has been cooked in. (I'm drooling again). I've also tried the empanadas, another "Alba" hit with me, I am normally not a fan of empanadas as most chefs use fillers, not in this recipe, delicious, moist and an excellent flaky pastry outer. If I had a time machine I'd go back in time to experience Alba's Cuban Coladas all over again. Have you ever had an espresso and felt like it gave you life? Well let me tell you this espresso not only gave me life but made me feel like I was bulletproof for a healthy amount of time. While planning my trip to Maui, Hawaii, I was surprised to find a little Cuban stand right on the beach. Being a Cuban/American myself, from Miami, I had to check it out. Let me tell you something; this place rivals the best Cuban bakeries in Miami! The coffee here is to die for (try the cortadito), and the food was a dream.
