Prices and portions - 5 stars: considering the outrages prices I've seen at the supermarkets, this place has very decent prices for their food. Their portions are enough to fill you you for sure. 2. Flavor - 5 stars: tried the steak, shredded beef and shredded chicken bowls. The seasoning was perfect, not salty just perfect. The beans and rice so delicious. PABELLON AREPA is a must. For $14 the PORTION:QUALITY:PRICE ratio is amazing. SERVICE is the best I have seen on the island. I know poke is usually a must when in Hawaii but this spot needs to be on your list! Very versatile accommodating with quick service. So AUTHENTIC I wish they had one in LA! Frequent visitor to Maui, first time visit to Miss Arepa. I don't know why on earth we waited so long. I am not an adventurous eater, but wanted something other than Hawaiian food so we went to Miss Arepa's for dinner tonight. We ordered pabellon (shredded beef) and camarones (shrimp) arepas and two empanadas (beef and fish). Craving something sweet to end the meal, I got a conserva de coco (coconut candy ball made with pineapple, cinnamon and panela). Everything was delicious, perfectly spiced and freshly prepared. The shrimps were big and plentiful. I ordered it with the chipotle sauce which gave it a kick of heat. They also bring out two other sauces: a green one (maybe cilantro?) and a red one (no clue). Both were delicious. The empanadas were hot and definitely hadn't been sitting under a heat lamp before being served. We arrived at Miss Arepa, a cute Venezuelan establishment in a strip mall on Lower Honoapiilani Road, past Kaanapali, around 9:30 a.m. We drove thru a rainstorm from Makawao to try their food. Unfortunately, lunch didn't start until 11 a.m. So me and my significant other sat outside deciding what to do for 1-1/2 hours... The waitress came out and told us the cook said they could make our order if we'd wait a little longer! How thoughtful!!! The food was ready in less than 15 minutes, piping hot, and we paid and were on our way back to Makawao thru the pouring rain by 10:30 a.m.! AMAZING!!! Nice surprise! Stumbled on this Venezuelan restaurant at the opposite side of The Fish Market, waiting for the market to open. I snapped pictures of the menu and convinced the family to give it a try last night. Good decision! It also helped to see 4.8 Yelp rating. I enjoyed my beef Pabellon and the yucca fries we shared. On our first night in Maui, we were looking for some highly rated local spots and decided to try Miss Arepa. We had heard a lot about their famous arepas, but after reading a few reviews mentioning that they can get very stuffed and messy, we decided to try their bowls instead. I ordered the bowl with chipotle chicken, and my husband ordered the same bowl but added hongos (garlic mushrooms) as extra protein on the side. We also got their coconut mango slushie to go with it. The place itself is small but really cute, with a few tables both inside and outside. It has a casual, laid-back island vibe, and the staff were very courteous and welcoming. The food came out hot and fresh, and at first glance the portion looked a little small. But once you start mixing everything together, you realize it's actually quite filling and well-balanced. The bowls were packed with layers of flavor and ingredients. They also gave us two sauces--a creamy green sauce and a spicy red/orange sauce. Both were fantastic and really elevated the dish. The chipotle chicken was especially good--juicy, flavorful, and nicely spicy. The coconut mango slushie was honestly a perfect match for the meal. I found this when searching best food in Maui so we decided to give it a try. Just as other reviews have said, it is a refreshing change of pace from tacos and fish dishes on the island. We ordered the Pabellon and wanted the Reina Pepiada but that one was out so we did La Mexicana instead. The food came out pretty quickly and very hot. The arepas are very juicy and more of a fork situation than what we thought it would be. It was actually hard to eat all together and the masa bread encasing was not my favorite alone so I used it as a chip and it was a bit better. The fillings and sauces they give you to add were both fantastic. The beef and chicken were well seasoned and full of flavor. The cilantro sauce was so creamy and flavorful; and the chipotle was a nice deep heat that was really punchy with flavor. Definitely filling and a decent price point. I saw this place on Yelp and it attracted me because it's 100% gluten free. My husband is gluten free and it's always a struggle finding spots for him to eat at. While we are here on vacation, we will be coming back another time for sure. Yesterday we stopped by and ordered carne asada arepas with yuca fries on the side and hibiscus tea for our drink. Let me just say, this meal HIT the spot! The arepa was delicious! The meat was tender and they give a lot for the price! The combo of meat with mozzarella and tomato is just top tier! Portions are generous and they load the arepas up with all of the fillings. I asked for the employee's recommendation for a side and she recommended the tajadas (sweet fried plantains). Everything came out fresh and and food was very hot. We absolutely loved the arepas and the tajadas were a nice side that we were glad to try, albeit a bit oily that made it hard to finish. Again, we loved that everything came out really fresh, packed with flavor, and would definitely recommend to anyone staying in the Lahaina area. Parking lot is a bit small and shared with several other establishments. There is indoor seating as well as a few tables outside. This is a local spot known for its arepas and empanadas. It was busy and rightfully so because the food was phenomenal. I got the chicken empanadas. They were tasty - delicious and crispy- packed with well seasoned chicken, we also had arepas, yucca fries ( cooked to crispy perfection) and the dessert Mandocas (this was a bit plantain based for my liking but my dad gobbled them right up). We came by Miss Arepa while we are on vacation. It's located a small plaza with ample parking in the lot. We went on a Saturday late afternoon and it wasn't busy. Cute decor and atmosphere with indoor seating. I got the Pabellon ($14)- black beans, queso fresco, shredded beef, and sweet plantain. It was loaded! The garlic sauce came on the side. It was super delicious and filling. The shredded beef was tender and flavorful and the other ingredients complemented each other well. Miss Arepa is an easy 5 stars - it was one of the cheapest dinners we had in Maui, but one of the most satisfying. We got there in the last hour before closing and it was still full of people, most seemed like locals. You order at the counter and then find a table to sit at. We ordered the shrimp bowl that came with rice, beans, and plantains and did 3 mini arepas with beef and cheese fillings. We also got a side of tostones and salad. Everything tasted so fresh and was well seasoned. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and had a great snap to them. The arepas were sooo good too, crunchy on the outside and able to hold up to a lot of fillings. The side of tostones was a bigger portion than we expected, and we were happy to get to take some home. They reheated really well the next day on a frying pan. The salad was fresh and had a nice refreshing dressing to go with it. Having been coming to Maui for years, my wife and I love to find small places that are away from the heart of the touristy areas. Some such places still slip into the category of "overrated and underwhelming". Not Miss Arepa's!!! A true gem nestled into the same strip center as another of our favorites - Fish Market Maui - Miss Arepa's is a small shop serving up, to steal the descriptor from another review, true flavor bombs! On this most recent trip, my wife and I were looking for a non-seafood option as we had been gorging ourselves on the outstanding Hawaiian seafood over the previous 5 days. Arepas sounded good, and it has been quite some time since we had had those back on the mainland. We trusted in Yelp and made the drive over to Miss Arepa's. From the moment we walked in we knew we were in for a treat. The woman working the front of the shop was so amazingly pleasant she set the tone for the meal. She cheerfully helped my wife navigate the menu to find an option that did not have garlic (food sensitivity). And she was quick to mention that the shrimp, in general, was a great choice We settled on the shrimp with tomatos and bell pepper salsa for my wife, and, I caved and opted for the garlic shrimp (after receiving special dispensation from my wife, of course). And then, to share we added one Hawaiiana (Kalua pork and pineapple salsa) We grabbed a table outside to enjoy the cool midday temperatures and in very short order our three arepas were brought to us - along with two sauces (a chipotle spicy aioli and a garlic aioli). The arepas were visually stunning and after a brief moment admiring the presentation we hungrily dove in. OMG. That's it. That is really the review. The depth of flavor in each bite was simply amazing. The shrimp - fresh, perfectly cooked. Flavorful. The sauces. Bursting with flavors. Not too heavy on the spice. Balanced and paired so well with the rest of the dish The arepas. Hot! Very hot! Fresh! Very fresh! Crispy outside. Tender inside. Delicious And the kahlua pork. We've had kahlua pork in dozens of dishes in dozen of restaurant across the islands and none, and I mean none, matched this. Smoky tender morsels of pure gastronomical delight. The only downside to this experience. We leave tomorrow and won't have time to return to try all the other items on the menu. Definitely a strong option! We ordered two pabellon bowls, chicken and steak, and both were actually fabulous. The steak wasn't overly chewy or all fat; it was juicy and flavorful. The chicken was also well seasoned and moist. The rice was a little bland for our taste, but they offered a mayo-heavy yet fresh-made cilantro sauce, chipotle sauce, and fresh-made chimichurri sauce. We stopped by for dinner and even though it's pretty small, we were able to snag a table. Dinner also came out quickly, which we appreciated because we were starving! We went with a carne asada arepa that my husband raved about, the Kalua Pork arepa which my daughter raved about, and I went with a Kalua Pork rice bowl.
