With the majority of Hana visitors day trippers, most eateries and food trucks are closed by 5. Lucky for us, Garden Gourmet was still open after we drove from the airport and checked into our inn. Offering a nice variety of food from flatbread pizzas, tacos, to Thai food, there is bound to be something for everyone. Since it is hot and humid in the middle of this beautiful rainforest, I wanted something light and refreshing so the summer rolls and green papaya salad hit the spot. In fact those summer rolls were so good, I ended up coming back the next day for another order for a mid-day snack. With a fruit stand just down the road from here, buying a butter avocado to go with the summer rolls was perfection. The drunken noodles and sugar cane juice was just okay for me as the cane juice tasted too muddled in comparison to the ones at Twin Falls and Farmacy so I assume this one was pre-pressed vs. pressed to order. But overall, still a great spot in Hana to enjoy the food right on site or back at your accommodations especially if you have an oceanview.

One of the only places open till 6 nearby Hana! We tried to go back on a Wednesday for lunch but they were closed so not sure about Wednesday hours. The papaya salad is a must try- so amazing and fresh. We tried the veggie drunken noodles and the margarita flatbread pizza too. The veggies were fresh and the service was great. We also got coffee ice cream and chocolate chip cookies. All of it was so good- a must stop if they're open. By far the best prices and quality in Hana.

Delicious! Not many places along Hana Highway were open today (Monday in early March) so we were happy to find Garden Gourmet Cafe open and serving made-to-order food this afternoon. We had the papaya salad, drunken noodles and chicken fried rice. All were tasty and made fresh. We also got a soursop, guava and avocado from the fruit stand here - perfectly ripe and reasonably priced!

This was our go to place for dinner in Hana. We had the Thai food both nights. We were happy with the selection of veggies in both vegetarian and meat dishes. This is unusual! Also the spices used (lots of ginger in our dish!) were great. There aren't that many choices for dinner in Hana btw. However, we repeated dinner at this place just because it was that good and not just because it was there :)

I came across this food-truck on my way to Hana. It is inside the Garden of Eden Arboretum's main entrance but you do not have to pay the entrance fee to eat at the food truck. I was starved when I arrived here and was not hoping to find vegetarian options. However, I was pleasantly surprised to see vegetarian tacos on the menu. I ordered a vegetarian taco, Hawaiian chips and jack fruit. They were all very delicious. Jack fruit was very sweet and refreshing. The overall ambience outside the food truck was also very nice. They had a seating area with umbrellas to protect from rain. Also, there was a peacock roaming around the garden area who was not afraid to come near me in search of food. :)

This was the best stop we could've made on the road to Hana. We ordered the pork and chicken tacos, taro chips, and tamales. Everything tasted amazing! Super flavorful and a bunch of different tasty hot sauces to choose from. There were peacocks hanging out with us as we ate which was pretty dope, but the dopest part was when Tim (the owner) came to chat with us and as we noticed his banana plant was ripe, he chopped it down for us and gave us a bunch of fresh bananas which also were super tasty. Check this place out, Tim and his tacos are amazing.

I have come here to eat at this lunch wagon about three times while on the drive to Hana. I always get one of the pizzas b/c they are delicious and he makes all of it even the dough. My mom always gets the coconut macaroons which she adores along with a brownie or two for my pops. I sometimes would order a tea or rootbeer float as well. all delicious. just keep in mind that this is NOT a fast food restaurant. all food is made to order. but if you like organic delicious food then you will love it. they have a garden in back where they grow most of the fruits and veggies used in the food! so its obviously fresh! fresh fish is also available at times and he can tell you who caught the fish and where it came from and when it was caught, SUPER super fresh!! best fish taco EVER! it is grilled.

Saw the reviews for this place, and thought we would try it out, honestly we drove by it the first time, and ended up going back. In speaking with the cook / owner / proprietor she mentioned that they use all fresh ingredients, and many of them are grown onsite in her garden at the site, it is easy to see many types of vegetables and herbs growing around the tables. Fish and chicken are sourced locally, and the flatbread pizza dough is made fresh from organic flour. We had a few things, and all of them were fantastic! She cooks everything to order, so there was a small wait, but not too long. Definitely worth the small wait. Ginger Stir Fry with Ono - Fantastic- fresh fish, vegetables, greens and herbs all cooked lightly to perfection, and combined with whatever magical spices (ginger is one for sure) that is placed in the dish. It was perfect! The fish was tender, yet still firm, and everything melted in my mouth! Chicken Summer Rolls. Fantastic! Two large rolls cut in half. These were great, and the highlight was the fresh mint (which we could see grown from our table!) Flatbread cheese pizza - so good we ordered another one, after the first was gone! The dough is freshly made with organic flour and lightly barbecued (grilled) to give it some crispness. Not oily at all, lightly cooked and perfect. Everything else just melted together, the dough was the star of this show. Chicken Tacos - FYI, these are not on the menu, only fish or vegetarian, but my daughter requested chicken and they obliged :). Plenty of chicken and fresh veggies here. The tortillas were out of this world. In fact my kids threatened me with bodily harm if I didn't give this place five stars, that's how much they liked them ;) Overall, if you like fresh food, you will love this place. Definitely worth the drive to Hana.

Be sure to watch for the sign as you approach - we drove by the first time and came back to make it into the parking lot. The person taking orders was helpful and warned us right away that they were out of curry. The person who makes it measures from her heart, won't share her recipe, and was out shopping. We shared the fried rice with chicken and some spring rolls. It was all so delicious, and fun to sit on the deck and watch the road and town while relaxing after the crazy road. My real praise starts a couple hours later. As we made it to our next stop, I remember that I had never taken my bag off the back of the chair back at the restaurant! I called as soon as we had a phone signal again, and the gentleman who answered the phone assured me right away that he'd seen it and was keeping it safe. I told him we'd be back for it the next day, and he told me what time he'd be there. Luckily for me, hubs drove back alone the next day (he loves the road, and it's more fun for him without me panicking from the passenger seat). The man at the restaurant said he'd tried to get our attention as we left, and again when we drove by after visiting the shore! I was so grateful to have my stuff back, and be able to board our plane the next day with my id. P.S. - the food and service was 5 stars even if they hadn't helped with my mix up later!

As we found with our visit, despite the rundown look to some, it is definitely worth a stop. After perusing some of the other shops (grabbed some awesome baked coconut candy!) initially although Jen's food looked quite good, I was holding out to get my greasy spoon fix in at the shrimp truck back in Kahului. However, as we climbed into the car, the delicious smell emanating from the shack was just too much to overcome. So we climbed back out and grabbed some delicious shrimp pad Thai. As you can expect the operation is pretty no-frills. However, nothing helps to cap off a long day of winding through the Hana Highway like some greasy spoon Thai food. As for the food itself, it was pretty delicious and the shrimp were fresh and tasty. So take a stop at Jen's to stretch your legs and get your Thai fix in.

Will definitely be back in the future trips!

Well no bad guys ever showed up, and the hucksterism was pretty low key. The excitement was not to be had either but it was obvious that these trucks are feeding a lot of people. If they were only able to lower their prices even a little they could be feeding even more but I guess their overhead is probably pretty high even for a parked truck. Anyway I was expecting a bit lower price scale, but it is what it is. So .. For fifteen bucks plus tax and tips I got the seared salmon. The fish was nicely cooked, I enjoyed it. The vegetables were pretty meh but did help bring more of the sauce to the palate. Yes, the sauce was good, right on the verge of too much soy, but they did a good job keeping it balanced. The salmon portion size was small, but not insultingly tiny. Could have been a bit larger for the $15, the value is not there only if you compare to what you make at home, otherwise it's probably disappointedly normal. When you get your six inch diameter bowl you will see what I mean. The heap of rice made for good entertainment feeding the chickens. You're discouraged from feeding them so I just sat the bowl down behind the coffee guys trailer and watched them pig out. It is not exactly "Fast" food here, they are actually cooking the meal while you wait. I had my order in 12 minutes though, exactly how long she said it would take.

We got there about 1.5 hours before they closed and once we arrived, it took a while for someone to come out from the back. We then realized they were getting many to-go pick up orders back to back so it seemed like business was booming for them. Eventually, our server did hand us the menus with the specials for the day. It's a very small restaurant with very limited seating indoors but we were the only patrons so it didn't feel crammed. There's $5 parking directly in front or you can park a bit farther away for some free spots. For starters we split the spring rolls, pretty good nothing extraordinary. I got the Tom Yum soup with chicken and my partner got the pineapple fried rice with shrimp. Honestly, we could've gotten away with splitting the second meal because the serving was way bigger than we expected. Nonetheless, the soup was delicious and had so many different vegetables in it that I lost track. What I enjoyed most about the fried rice was it contained browned cashews and I think that really sold it for me. I like crunchy textures like nuts and i feel that it balanced out the usual softness of the shrimp. It seems like a lot of people don't dine in, rather they just come to pick up their food and head out. Either way, I'd recommend trying it out if you like Thai Food. They had many specials going on and a good variety to choose from.
