I booked an appointment with Dr. Kuan a couple of weeks ago regarding my post root canal procedure. He was very thorough with explaining every step of the procedure. He made sure I was comfortable and that I was experiencing little to no pain throughout the procedure. I didn't even need a numbing shot! He pointed out to me how I may not have even needed the root canal that was done by my previous dentist when he looked at my x-rays. Some dentists can be very immoral when it comes to diagnosing certain teeth problems and make sure to always get a second opinion when it comes to significant dental problems and avoid my mistake. The receptionist, Jennifer, was also very kind and easy to talk to. I was initially nervous going in, but that nervousness left pretty quickly after I talked to her. Initially my experience was very good in the beginning with Dr. Kuan and the receptionist Jennifer. They were both friendly and good in their jobs. But that went downhill quick mainly with my dealings with Jennifer. I had a general cleaning done and Jennifer gave me a card for another appointment for approximately six months after that. Since I don't go to the dentist regularly, when the six months came and she called me to remind me of my cleaning, I did not respond and assumed she would professionally take it as not now, maybe later for me and the cleaning. A few months after that, I received a bill out of nowhere for a $20 fee. That was not expected since the insurance paid and I paid my remaining balance up to the last dentist visit I had with them. That was when I felt something fishy going on. I decided to pay the $20 and not go back there if not an emergency or really necessary. A few months later, one of my fake tooth fell out and I went to see Dr. Kuan out of necessity. The checkup and diagnosis went good. Jennifer told me she will contact me after the insurance coverage responds to her. Two months or so went by no word so I contacted her. She said my insurance, "is a total mess, since covid no one is doing their job there..." etc. I thought that was odd. I called my insurance, they told me she never called them. I asked how do they know? They said they log all their calls and it shows no record of her calling, and they didn't receive anything from her and her dental office too. I retold the message to Jennifer, the dental receptionist and again, she said no one picked up when she tried. I thought it odd. One month passed, I tried the same steps, called the insurance, they told me the same thing, I told Jennifer again they didn't receive her call or anything from her, and she replied to me the same response, they're a mess. Finally, in September, about 4 months after my "emergency" visit to Dr. Kuan for my missing tooth, I try it again, I call my insurance, they tell me again Jennifer never called them and they are requesting her to call them. I let Jennifer know she needs to call them asap since it's been 4 months and they never logged a call from her! and they're asking that she call them before the claims can proceed. She never does. Fed up with Jennifer's games and unprofessionalism, I told Dr. Kuan I'll come back to pick up my fake tooth since they held it for 4 months for an urgent procedure that never was taken seriously by his wife Jennifer the dental receptionist (she told me has 30 years experience) Yet to my shock and surprise she doesn't know how to call a dental insurance company to follow up a claim even when the customer, me, and the insurance company asked her to do it three to four times over four months. Of course Jennifer sent me a bill of $165 in August anyway my emergency checkup visit. We never even got to fixing my missing tooth since she was fumbling all along with just trying to collect on my exam visit! After Jennifer failed to followup on the claim from the insurance company she decided to bill me anyway the full amount for the checkup visit. The only reason this is a two star review and not one star is because Dr. Kuan is a good dentist and way more understanding than his receptionist wife. When I went to pick up my fake tooth (so I can go to another dentist who probably will act a lot quicker with someone who can file claims properly), Dr. Kuan told me I don't have to worry about the $165 bill. That was the only good thing to happen from the whole 4 month disappointment and disaster. Of course, a month later, I got a bill anyway in the mail from their dental office. But since I am a man of my word and expect other's should be the same, I assume Dr. Kuan is a man of his word and what he told me stands, that I do not need to worry about the bill, even if his unprofessional receptionist wife thinks it necessary to still bill me anyway! read more

I've been going to Dr. Kuan for close to two decades now. He is always thorough and does a great job- we always have good conversation about our Alma-Mater (UC Berkeley) as well as financial and current events discussions. Jennifer (Front Desk) is very nice and personable. They've seen me grow up-- I would not go anywhere else...see him twice a year for cleanings and polishes even though I don't live in the neighborhood. Dr. Kuan speaks English, Spanish and (Chinese?). The office is updated (aside from the waiting room), they have updated equipment, and you even get to watch TV while getting a cleaning or dental repair work done. Make an appointment for quicker service (first appt in the morning is my recommendation for working folks). read more

Dr Kuan was amazing. He explained the entire process to me, went the extra step to make sure I was comfortable and not in pain. The assistant got sick that day, so he was assisted by the lady from the front desk. She was the kindest person ever, she was so caring and even let me hold her hand when he was giving me the anesthesia with the needle. Overall, I think I just found a new regular dentist I'll be going back to. Would highly recommend! You'll be treated so well here. Ps. Dr. Kuan is amazing!! First, he has such a gentle touch that he filled my cavity WITH OUT me needing a shot. I had no pain at all! Second, he took the time to answer every one of my questions...which were plenty. I'm pretty sure I kept them into their lunch break with my questions and they answered each one thoroughly and cheerfully. Third, Dr. Kuan did not try to up-sell me one bit. I know I need more work that what I went in for and he didn't pressure me at all, nor did he give me any kind of guilt trip about not seeing a dentist regularly. Fourth, the tooth he worked on feels completely normal. I've had fillings done before where your tooth feels different for days or weeks later. My appointment was about 30 minutes ago and it doesn't feel like there is foreign object in my mouth. Finally, it's not just Dr. Kuan who is awesome, his dental assistant and front desk gal were both sweet and engaging. And, btw, if you haven't been to Visitacion Valley parking is a breeze and there is no traffic. My whole experience was great. Seriously, it really was great...I can't wait to go back! read more

I have been Dr. Kuan's patient for more approx. 8-10 years. I left for a year to an office that was closer to my job, but ended up returning back to Dr. Kuan's office. I have only received great service from his and the whole staff, I recommend him to my family and friends. I've been going to Dr. Kuan since 1997 and I love his office! He has the best disposition and he is a fantastic listener with a great memory. The location is not close to my job but I never mind making the trek across town to see him. I've been coming to this place for well over five years now very accommodating very understanding professional

If I can rate no star, I prefer to rate no star at all. The receptionist, Jennifer who is very horrible person, bad manner, disrespectful attitudes and irresponsible behaviors. She initially told the patience, the crown costs 1500 dollars, later she changed the charges to be 1800 dollars instead. In addition, she had patient to wait for months to get approval letter from insurance co, then she replied, the dentist might not take the procedures of it, because it is the special crown. Then why did she tell initially, rather than having the patient waiting for months to get everything all ready to go. And her response was, " Anyhow the patient have been waiting long to get the crown already from the last implant." Her unprofessional attitude, and horrible tone of voice got me really sick, and made me feel like she is mercy me to provide the treatment in 1800 dollars. So I won't recommend anyone to go there for any treatment, the doctor may be able to do simple oral clean work, not a complex work. I doubt about 5 stars rating may be a fake review. read more

I haven't been to a Dentist in a long time so I was a little afraid. Upon meeting Dr. kuan I was very pleased with his professionalism. He was very thorough, friendly, and explained every detail before and during my visit. His staff is welcoming and friendly. I didn't even feel it when he had to extract my tooth! I had a horrible situation from a previous Dentist and needed to find a Dentist that was not only good but one of the best. I will say after meeting Dr. Kuan and his staff they were so welcoming and treated me as if I had been going there for years. He will explain everything before proceeding and like my former Dentist who retired that I loved so much, took the time to examine every single tooth in my mouth. He is gentle, kind and will work for you and not against you. He doesn't have the power trip unlike the last Dentist who shall remain nameless that basically botched me and didn't care at all! I can assure all of you who reads these posts that you wouldn't be sorry if you decide to go with him!
