I can't believe it's taken me so long to write this review - my family and I have been going to Dr. Franny for a couple or few years now. We switched from a dentist who was all about getting us in and out, without much bedside manner, and who didn't seem to care about us as people. Switching to Dr. Franny and her team was such a breath of fresh air. Dr. Franny is genuinely nice, comes across as motherly, is very considerate, always checks in to make sure you're OK, and takes the time to explain everything that she's doing, ensuring that you understand before she moves forward. Her entire team is amazing as well. Megan and everyone else always greet us with smiles, are enjoyable to be around, and are helpful with any questions or anything we ever need. Amazing Practice! So I first visited this office a few months ago for a general check up. Personally I dread the dentist so much, my previous dentist would give me a muscle relaxer before appointments. That's how bad it was. Haha So I went in a little hesitant. The care they provide is top notch. I felt as comfortable as one can be at the dentist. Nothing was rushed the assistant was super informative and gentle. Dr.Franny is one of kind Doctor, has incredible bedside manner towards patients and staff. I have worked in the medical field for several years and always pay attention to how the staff is treated and patients. She's phenomenal and goes above and beyond. Fast forward I have now taken my two kids (4 + 7) and they love Dr. Franny. My 7 year old has since had cavities filled and an infected tooth removed. Today was the day of her first extraction. She was so scared and nervous. Dr. Franny was able to get the job done all while my daughter was crying and put her at ease. Dr. Franny takes her time to check in on comfort and checking in if a break is needed. She has a background dealing with kids at UCSF, if I'm remembering correctly, so that was really reassuring. Dr Parodi was there for many many years and after his passing, his wife made sure it went to someone who would keep the staff and also welcome the longtime patients he had. Just like any personal services, I kept changing dentists hoping to find one that actually cares about their patients, gentle, and educational. It was a lot of ask for but Dr Franny hit all 3 of these qualities. She did 8 cavities on me and I was not anxious before each appointment because it did not hurt at all. Usually I am terrified of the anesthesia injection but dr Franny made it felt like nothing. And I really appreciate that. I also appreciate how professional she is explaining and showing me the before/after photos of what was going on/what she did. My husband is now going to her as well, he really like her too. I will also take my 14 months old boy to her when he is ready. I trust Dr Franny 100%, she truly CARES about your dental health, not just someone trying to rush and make a quick buck. Portola Smiles with Dr. Francine is one of the best dental practices I was able to find. The level of service and caring from the front end all through the entire experience was exceptional. I came here with my son for an emergency extraction because it was causing him pain and he had a tooth erupting behind the loose tooth. The office was able to find an appointment for him quickly to accommodate the growing pain my little boy was starting to be uneasy with. The staff was very easy to communicate with and Dr. Francine was very knowledgeable with the process and procedure. She had her staff take X-Rays before doing the extraction and after went over other areas of concern regarding my son's overall dental health and necessary steps to ensure a pearly white and healthy smile. She gave me options and made recommendations as to what is the safer with the best possible outcome for his teeth with no added pressure on which route to take. The only "con" out of all the "pros" is parking in the area. If you are a local - I would definitely recommend public transit. Otherwise, I would recommend coming early than your allotted time to ensure street parking availability. From walking in through the doors, i'm greeted by Megan and May who are so kind and very helpful with the whole scheduling and insurance process. In the patient room, Joy the RDA is so sweet and really makes me feel so comfortable as she prepares me for the appointment. My parking meter actually ran out of time during one of the appointments and rest assured, the team took care of it and actually went down to help me fill the meter! Dishonest practice. I wanted to get my braces removed. They told me they would check me and see if they could remove them, they charged me 90 for the appointment. I sat down and the Dr didn't even check my mouth when she came in telling me they didn't have the equipment to remove my braces. They knew all along they wouldn't be capable of doing the work but still charged me to "check if they could remove them". They just wanted the money, why not being honest ever since the beginning by saying they couldn't do the job so I could go look for different options.
