I made an appointment as a new patient for a dental cleaning. This place was highly recommended by one of my friends. I am pretty particular when it comes to dental cleanings because after one of my last experiences at a different facility I knew I needed to find a place I could trust. The earliest appointment I could get was two months out from the day I called. Not too bad considering one of my last places made me book 6 months advance. The dental office is located in the large medical building on the 5th floor. It was relatively easy to find. Parking was a bit tough as I parked near the gym area since I wasn't sure if they had a parking lot for their customers. Apparently there is a underground lot with the entrance near subway for those that are wondering. I arrived a few minutes before my appointment and I waited at the front for a 5 minutes before someone came because there nobody at the front desk. The waiting area has 3 chairs and water if you'd like. The waiting area is a tad on the smaller side but they do a good job with spacing our clients to reduce the amount of people waiting at a time. My appointment lasted about 1.5 hours. Way longer than I anticipated but I did appreciate the thorough job they did. The moment you walk into the patient area, they have you wash your hands and do an oral mouthwash rinse. I had a 18 view X-ray of my teeth that took about 25 minutes to do. This extensive imaging is for first time patients and it should be covered through your dental insurance (mine was through (Delta Dental). I've never had this many views done before even when I switched from different dentists in the past. Usually it's only 6-8 imagines. From there, the dental hygienist did the cleaning for about 45 minutes. After the cleaning, I was greeted by the dentist, Dr. Winnie Lam. We talked for a good 20ish minutes about issues I had with my teeth/jaw pain and she was able to examine my teeth to give me more insight to what is happening. The whole team at Ocean Dental Group was very welcoming and professional. The location was very clean and pretty easy to find. Appointments were easy to make. They gave me a toothbrush, floss, toothpaste and mouthwash afterwards too! I definitely recommend this place to others. Dr. Yang is a fantastic dentist and everyone in the office has always been friendly and easy to work with. I have been a patient for years and years and am very sad to leave now that they don't take my insurance anymore, BUT I wanted to leave a review because they're awesome and I'm sad I have to find a new dentist! A bit on the pricy side and now they are out of network for Delta Dental. Their hygienist Winnie (not the dentist by the same name) also does a painful teeth cleaning, and when I complained, she blames the patient and not her technique for being too sensitive. And she tried to continue with the painful cleaning rather than adjusting her technique (*your* desire to finish does NOT take precedence over my insistence that you stop hurting me!) I haven't had any issues with cleanings before and after so.... Unfortunately the front staff will also vigorously defend their office rather than offering solutions like never having that hygienist work on you again, you'll have to advocate for yourself here. And I doubt they conveyed the issue to the dentists. If you steer clear of that hygienist, the dentist, Duke, is great. Dr. Yang has been my dentist for about 4, going on 5 years now. I was introduced to Dr. Yang by a friend's friend when I was in need of fillings for exposed bone from eroding my enamels around the gum area from brushing too hard with a manual toothbrush (Dr. Yang will definitely recommend a specific electric toothbrush, one that I have yet to look into but I trust him on his recommendations, always!) While fixing the sensitive and exposed areas of a few teeth around the gums, Dr. Yang also did a comprehensive X-Ray exam (standard in any good standing dental practice by the way) and unfortunately informed me that I also had a dead tooth and needed to extract the nerve and crown it (a root canal + crowning procedure). Terrified as I was, I felt better with Dr. Yang's calm and friendly demeanor as he walked me through the process of the procedure before and while we were getting me prepped, extracted, and then fitted for a crown. I've never had a great experience with dentists, especially not since I found Dr. Yang when the dentist that I saw on a yearly basis in Taiwan for cleaning had apparently not done a great job of cleaning for the past 3-4 years I had been going to him AND with my horrible experience with a Stanford oral surgeon in the Sunset who extracted my wisdom teeth and left me with TMJ. Slowly but surely, Dr. Yang patiently worked on me to restore the cavity-ridden damages on a few of my back teeth, completed an amazing and smooth root canal and crowning procedure, as well as fir me for a Nightguard to help with preventing my TMJ symptoms (mostly lockjaw) from getting worse. I'm really thankful that Dr. Yang and his staff are so warm and friendly while being meticulous with scheduling me in routinely and for their services and procedures. Especially thankful for Jenny in the front for always being readily available, quick to respond via phone or texts, and fun to talk with post-appointments. My wisdom tooth chipped after having a cavity, and I had been searching for a dentist to extract the thing rather than having it cause complications down the road. Dr. Yang's office was extremely accommodating, friendly, and in a comfortable environment. They are very on point with COVID safety (which is important for me, at least) and the onboarding process for new patients was very quick. Fortunately, there was an opening due to a last minute cancellation, so I got it, got an x-ray, got and extraction and was home for dinner. Finding a dentist who is taking in new patients is really hard apparently, and personally, actually going to the dentist is annoying too. My last dentist retired right before the pandemic, and I really put dentistry in my lowest of priority from a health perspective. Ocean Dental Group's practice gives me a lot of confidence. Dr. Yang himself is very calming, straight forward and friendly. His dental assistant (?) Amy was very friendly in getting the x-ray as I have an almost automatic gag reflex for that dental x-ray mouth piece. read more

Dr. Yang is amazing and very knowledgeable. He is very easy to talk to and I knew right away that I can trust him. I was seeking the Invisalign treatment for the relapse of my braces from a while back, and he guided me through the entire process and made sure I was happy with the results. When the retainers from the Invisalign company were a little weird for my teeth, he got them replaced for me quickly for no additional cost! I can tell that patient satisfaction is super important here. Clean. Professional. Courteous. Friendly. Great Communication. Highly Recommended. For details/reasons read below. To find this place I searched for dental offices relatively close to my house and found Ocean Dental and Lake Side Dental. At first I called Lake Side Dental(more 5 star ratings), but quickly was turned away due to their availability. With Ocean Dental group I was scheduled within the month, so I made my decision based on that. Now onto my experience.. simply put it was great and here's a few reasons why: 1. Parking - They have their own lot so no need to worry about paying meters, etc. It's also located in a residential area making parking quite easy anyways. 2. New and Clean - The building itself isn't newly built, but the second you walk into suite 306 you'll be shocked that it's in the same building. Looks newly furnished, no worn down seats, very clean, water dispenser available in the seating area w/updated magazines, etc. 3. Scheduling - They don't overbook their schedules, when I arrived I only saw one other client who had an appointment with a different dentist. After I filled out my forms I was able to see my dentist right away. 4. Professional - There are two dentists in the office(who are also married, that's very cute in my opinion). I had Duke, and he was definitely the best dentist I've had. He was very knowledgeable and answered every question in a way that anyone could understand. I only had a simple cleaning on my first visit, but it went great.. no pains like other practices I've been too. 5. Communication - They have a personal LCD screen attached to the seat your in. This allows you to view your x-rays and pictures of your teeth. In every other dental office I've been to, patients were never shown those, maybe because dentists never cared to explain them. I personally like it because Duke explained what needed to be worked on and I could visually see it in front of me. Throughout my cleaning, Duke would also ask how things were going and of course they were great (no pain). 6. Freebies - lots of it! Some practices do this as well, but none of mine have in the past. In the kit you receive two types of tooth paste (crest and Aquafresh), a oral-b toothbrush, crest health mouth wash, and crest glide floss. What really sets this place a part is their staff. Duke along with everyone I met in the office (Kelly receptionist and dental assistant Linda) had great interpersonal skills. It wasn't strictly business, but they also like to create small talk. You can tell it wasn't just because it was their job, but they just are those type of people. When leaving the office, every staff member said bye to me.. this is why I love family dentistry, it adds that personal touch. P.S. If you're wondering I have insurance, so my visit was paid for by my company, personally I don't know their cost to a regular visit and examination, but I have confidence to say it's priced fairly. read more

If you are looking for a good dentist, look no further... Dr. Yang and Dr. Lam are two of the BEST dentists I have EVER been to!! I use to avoid the dentist like the plague, probably one of my least favorite things. Due to my sensitive teeth and low pain tolerance, I have never had a good experience with any other doctor. But Dr. Yang and Dr. Lam are superb at what they do! They are extremely gentle, informative and always checks in on me. If they notice any discomfort, they would stop and find ways to make you more comfortable. They always go the extra mile for their patients. Trust! I would know, cause I have had more cavities than I care to admit.. (struggles of a dessert addict T_T) So I have been to this office many times. For some reason, I don't know why, I am a very cavity prone person. Ever since I was a child at almost every dental visit... I get another cavity. Dammit. I've gone through two root canals and countless fillings. It's not cool. I swear I floss every night. -x- Anyways, I've been through several dental offices. Some a little better than others but typically there is always long waits. Painful procedures. Annoying old background music. And the funky smell of calcium. Disgusting. Ocean Dental Group's office is clean and friendly. I've gotten a root canal and several fillings here. Unlike other dentists, who do rush jobs to get the next patient in, Dr. Yang does a thorough job and is GENTLER than any of my previous dentists (I hope that didn't sound weird). It was important for me to choose a dentist within driving distance from work in San Francisco, and Dr. Yang at Ocean Dental Group was the highly recommended dentist of choice among my coworkers. Since my first visit a couple of years ago, many of my other colleagues have since switched from their long time dentists to Dr. Yang, and for good reason. He and his wife, both respected UCSF-educated dentists, run an immaculate, friendly, and professional office. I'm probably dating myself, but prior to my visit here, I had never seen instant x-rays that show up on a flat screen LCD next to my chair taken only moments earlier with a small flat electronic sensor. All fillings are skillfully done and with great care using the latest in light-curing technology. Pretty cool stuff, as dental visits go. Your problem areas (yes, we all have them) from cavities, to past fillings, to location of pockets are all stored electronically, and it's comforting to know that they can pull up your dental history instantly on screen. I'm one of those people who are reluctant to go to the dentist in general, but Ocean Dental has made all of my visits quite pleasant. I always know I'm in good hands. I'm scheduled to go back to Dr. Yang for Invisalign soon. I never had braces as a child, and as an adult, can't really imagine a better way to straighten out my jacked up teeth than with Invisalign. I've had 3 dentists in my life time. The 1st dentist is now retired. He graduated at the top of his class from UCSF Dental School but I always felt he didn't keep up-to-date on dental trends. He was very skilled at giving injections as I seldom felt pain when administered the anesthetic. The 2nd dentist had a lot of experience when I had to find a new dentist but he was rather rough and tumble and didn't do much education. He was a great conversationalist 'tho. I started with Dr. Lam (she's a Lowell, CAL and UCSF dental school grad) when she worked as an associate at the dental practice above. She is very gentle and meticulous. During my recent dental procedure to replace 2 old fillings (one which developed a cavity under the old filling), she would check on me periodically during the 1.5 hr. session to make sure I was OK. She takes the time to educate and answer my questions which is very important to me. Her dental assistants are also very nice. I was hesitant to write this review because when places or professional practices get popular, it means it's harder to get in and I'd rather keep it a secret! read more

The staff here is nice and courteous. They have state of the art newest technology. They are able to take x-rays with less radiation than traditional xrays. I've been coming to this dental office for couple years now and I love how they are so efficient and they don't make any of the issues bigger than they really are. I also got my Invisalign done here and the results are great! While I was wearing them, I had to come every two weeks for Dr. Yang to check the process. There was an incident with one of my trays cutting into my gums, so I called up the office and they immediately scheduled me to come in the next day. Dr. Duke is awesome just like everyone else at the practice. Super nice and did excellent work. He really spent time talking to me about any problems I had concerning my teeth and any future issues he potentially foresees. Gave great advice and in no way pushed me into anything I didn't want or need. My cleaning was great; wasn't rushed and practically painless. Dr. Duke really takes his time to do a quality job. This is definitely as good as a dentist gets. I've never minded going to the dentist's office but here I even look forward to my routine cleanings with Dr. Lam. She always explains thoroughly what she does and is very friendly. She is thorough and doesn't guilt trip you for not flossing enough (LOL) but just reminds you again the importance of it.. We go through details on the xray together and she notes what to keep an eye on and other things to look out for. The front desk staff sends text and/or email reminders for your appointments and has always been friendly in person or on the phone. Every year, they send me a letter telling me what's new at the office, whether its a new procedure, introducing a new staff member etc. The office is wonderful, very clean and up to date. Magazine selection in waiting room is great but I've never had to wait long enough to get to read one really.
