Easy to get in. Plenty of good seating available. Great service at the bar. Old time charm and ambiance! Did not purchase any food or snacks.

It is time to update my review a I really have grown to truly love this venue. The shows I see here are well curated an there is a definite reason that Henry Rollins chose it for the two shows he used for his Showtime special. This theater is clearly cared for and is always very clean where the staff is constantly moving about to make certain things are cleaned up. The area can be tricky for parking and require some up and down side street driving to find one. I went to two things in a week and both times for parking right across the street pretty close to show time but I have a small car. This is not a good area to park for you folks who drive trucks or SUVs that are ridiculously big. It is a pretty great drop off for ride share though because they can tuck in a side street so you can safely pop out. I love what they do for us ADA folks because seriously, ADA is a pain...literally... I can't 'cram' in and walking sideways can sometimes be pretty hard. Some days I move better but it is dangerous for me to be up against people due to my tendons so people trying to leap around or over me is a big problem...trying to help but they end up stepping on me or running into me. I went to an event last night with another ADA friend. When I walked up they had two rows out of the way roped off for ADA reserved. I made an inquiry and the staff member said it was time to release those seats so I was able to grab some great space for me and my friend. There really and truly is not a bad seat in the whole theater. The stage is set so beautifully and the regular seats are pretty wide even though they are older. This is my favorite venue for aerial performance because the stage is so open so you miss nothing. I love that the venue is so open so people are able to get drinks or use the restroom with minimal distraction to the rest of the audience and that you can come in late if traffic is tragic. It has a much more easy going and non stuffy feel. I had been here for classic music, comedy, circus performance, drag shows.... a whole lot... They even have some snacks at the bar. My friend is a vegan so she was pretty happy to get potato chips and vegan cookies with an RC. I still don't understand Portland's obsession with RC but there are much worse sodas and at least RC is carbonated whereas A LOT of the artsy sodas are practically flat so *sigh* fine....

The Fourteen Year Old and I got to be Stage Crew (for Video) at the Cascade Blues Association Fundraiser. This is her first time volunteering on a video project. She got her own lanyard and everything. Some of these performers were amazing by the way. That's Tevis Hodge Jr. doing a sound check. Highly recommend. Thankful for this opportunity.

Great variety to be found here

Saw a burlesque performance here. The hot bartender with the shaved head is my favorite. The staff was very directive and polite.

Old theatre seats are tight small. The area it self is a bit pricey! $6 for a glass of beer and $9 for a margarita?! Dang!

The drink prices are a bit steep - $18 for a CAN of cheap wine. The performance tonight was so not worth the ticket price. We are jazz fans and this show was a tribute to Frank Sinatra and Louis Armstrong. The sax player and pianist were really great... but how do you have a tribute show to Armstrong without a horn?? The two singers, well I'll try to be kind. They just don't get the songs they are singing. Sinatra was a crooner.the gentleman trying to portray his music had no depth, or concept of this style. It was a low tide performance that should have been a hurricane of energy! The lady singing the jazz songs was a tier two performer. Not horrible, but Luke warm. It was a disappointing evening. I was a grateful it was only one hour long.

In typical Portland fashion, the Abbey is in an older neighborhood mixed in between homes and businesses. The building itself seems to have been recently renovated and looks wonderful! Everything is clean and seems newer, and the staff were friendly. We were given first timer information upon entry, although we probably could have figured things out on our own considering its size. There is a bar adjacent to the main area which made for easy access to pizza and drinks. They do have a limited menu but I appreciated the tasty Old Fashion I got, and my son enjoyed the pizza & candy. The acoustics were booming. It was loud downstairs! I overheard another patron saying people could go upstairs if the volume was too much where we were (I did not go upstairs). There is a little area for dancing and hanging out on both sides of the main seating area, as well as at the back of the room. I really liked it here! I hope I have other opportunities to return to the Abbey :)

Baffled sometimes when people say theatre is expensive to watch. We have so many great places to…read moresee plays for many different budgets, and Portland Center Stage hits the mark on it. They have a number of programs, like $25 tickets, Rush/Standby Tickets, Arts for All, Pay What You Will days. All very affordable! And for the quality of the shows here, it's absolutely worth it to go see at least one show a season. The stage crew and actors put on great shows! Every staff member I've encountered there have been friendly, patient and accommodating. I've done the Standby tickets for a few shows now and it's a great experience. Put your name on the wait-list about 90 minutes before showtime, go grab a bite to eat, and if you get a seat, that's great! If not, they can put you on the wait list for the next show (and then you can go do another activity downtown). They keep the place pretty clean too, really nice bathrooms haha.

I need to do an update as I have become a lot more attending of the performances here. The reason…read morefor this is accessibility. As someone with limited mobility often - I have a tissue disorder and some days I am far more mobile than others. I am also, due to the tissue disorder, more modest means. Thankfully Portland Center Stage is a proud Arts for All member. In addition - they really do welcome people. They have a lot of seating for ADA and accommodate you should you need chair arms or no arms or will have a spot cleared for your wheelchair. I appreciate tickets being low cost for me but with ADA it can be tricky and the events at the most challenging ADA locations expect you to show up right before a show hoping they will have an extra ticket which I cannot physically do and would not want that on ushers either. When inquiring, I have been treated with less than stellar attitude. I would love to have money and mobility and I used to! I know so many who are starting to struggle with mobility as they age and I really encourage them to go to spaces like this where they can easily get in and out. But even just calling - they actually answer the phone and are so helpful! I get that they want to sell as much at full price but it makes me really appreciate how truly welcoming Portland Center Stage is. Arts are healing and the productions here really are top notch. Their staff is very diverse throughout the theater making it feel like a safe space for everyone also. When seeing shows here, they do have a great concessions stand/bar with a great wine selection and some decent snacks. The theater is in such a great location - to the back of the theater is a favorite gelato place of mine and also some of the most delicious West African food if you want to make a whole night of it!
