This one hurts... we've been coming here once a week for the last 6 ish years before movies at Hollywood. The new young kid bartender is the worst. My wife and I ordered two drinks sitting at the bar (one for her and one for me). He then proceeded to take orders for people who showed up at the well and at the bar after us. Both of these people got their drinks BEFORE us. I thought this was odd but didn't make a big deal of it as we come her very often and I love the regular bartenders (not this kid). We wait for 10 minutes or so as he makes the people that showed up after us drinks and the waiters/tables orders drinks. Odd but not the worst. I order a espolon tequila and soda tall. It comes and I drink it within 10-15 minutes as we're in a rush to see a movie in an hour and I like to have a few drinks before pizza and a movie at Hollywood. After waiting so long for the first drink and him taking care of two people that ordered after us BEFORE US, I asked if I could get two drinks for my next round (I've done this literally 60 times at least at this bar with no issues as it's often packed and we're in a rush to catch a movie every-time we go and the bartenders are always super understanding of time constraints catching movies next door). He says "who's the other drink for???" I'm in my 40s and was dead sober/only had the previous drink all day. I say, "myself... I just figured I'd order two because I can see you're pretty slammed and we need to catch a movie soon". He says "I can't do two drinks but I can do a DOUBLE"!! So let me get this straight.... I can't get TWO watered down drinks but I CAN get ONE very stiff DOUBLE drink!!! I get this kid is likely 25, but saying I can't get two drinks but can get a double makes literal zero sense. He probably is very new to the service industry but doubles are far more intense than giving someone two tall drinks (I have dozens of friends around the world that own bars and doubles are always 10x more of a red flag). Just being confrontational for zero reason when every other time we've been here they are always super understanding to all the movie goers short schedule. I say, "I'll just do an another regular/single tequila soda..." I finish my second drink after being there for 30 minutes (I know because I literally checked my watch when we walked in as the movie was starting shortly and I'm very punctual). I try to order my third and final drink and he tells my wife I'm cut off. I've been going to bars all over the world at least 4/5 days a week for the last 20 years and NEVER IN MY LIFE HAVE BEEN CUT OFF. I was dead ass sober. This man-child told me that he wasn't comfortable giving me a 3rd drink after 30 minutes of us being there and after I told him we're in a rush to catch a movie. I don't understand this awful customer service at an IRISH BAR. I'm first gen IRISH and drinking two x alcohol and soda (tall so very watered down) drinks in 30 minutes is not uncommon anywhere. I wasn't being confrontational and still tipped this idiot when anyone in my shoes wouldn't have (ps I usually tip 40% at bars and tipped him 10% due to his asshole demeanor). F him and until he leaves I'm not coming back. All the female bartenders here treat the regulars like family which is why my wife and I have been coming here for almost a decade. Nothing like a genuine British pub (I'm British, and have been in Oregon since 2008) very noisy, discordant music and the Bartender (a young woman) was amazingly rude. The food was passable but the whole place about as accurate as how 'plastic Paddies' imagine St Patrick's day to the immense embarrassment of genuine Irish folk. One to avoid! read more

Warm, woody tones, dim lighting, competent bartenders and a nice long tap list -- yea, I'm sold! Love the vibe here, there are no TVs, just a couple of dart boards to make you get up off your fat ass, and a jumble of tables scattered around a big main room your crew can huddle around to dish the latest dirt. Solid Brit-forward menu with shepherds pie and fish and chips and the like, and they're open late. Patio is a bit sad, but at least they have one. Glad the place is still solidly representing the Hollywood district where other businesses have bailed. Several thumbs up for this one. read more

The tale of two fish? My partner and I have been anticipating coming to get some fish & chips here after watching a few friends eat it while we drank. While I saw some variation in plates and size of pieces, our full order plate had two very different pieces. You'll see in the picture that one is beyond fried - so much I should have sent it back. The lighter color piece was perfectly cooked. Fries are good, but only some were crispy. The small house salad is unique and pretty incredible. It was very lightly dressed. A classic British Pub with chairs and art to match. They have real darts I'll try again one day and change my rating if appropriate. read more

Wow... ordered cottage pie which was actually served as a stew with literally no potatoes on top... just stew in a diamond shaped dish. Not even the classic round bowl with the gravy hole in the middle. How does a cook and a server miss the potatoes on top?? read more

We had a startlingly great meal! This place was the real deal pub so we didn't expect the best food. I had the chicken pot pie and my partner had the fish and chips and both were perfect. I I was to go back, I'd get the fish and chips though because it might have been the lightest and best fry I'd eaten. I tasted the chips and they were also delicious. Only thing missing was the mushy peas. The chicken pot pie was also delicious with a wonderfully flaky crust. My only criticism was that it could have used a bit more salt, the filling was a bit bland (but that also is authentically English! lol). Our server was friendly, but kind of hard to find. The fish and chips were amazing. They were lightly breaded and the fries were crunchy. The service was quick, and the customer service was great. The tartar sauce was good. It wasn't too pickley ,perfectly blended and you could tell it's homemade. Loved that Guinness is on tap and other yummy stouts and ciders. It is noisy, and hard to hear each other talking. But it takes me back to London. I actually got sick in London and was unable to have this experience with my Husband, I had him go out with our friends when we were there. So this place is a new favorite when we visit Portland. read more

Nice neighborhood pub. Their fish and chips, and chicken pot pie were just simply outstanding. We will be going there again.

Called ahead and told them we were walking over and we had a party of 8, I saw they don't take reservations, but I like to get a feel for a place before showing up to a packed room. When we arrived I started putting tables together only to see the server had already made us a space on the benches by the corner of the bar, awesome!!! This is a nice spot to come and meet with friends and try to talk. Going on a Friday, I did expect a bit of a crowd and there was. Nothing too cluttered, but it did get extremely loud at times making it hard to hear the person across the table. The service was nice, though it was clear a bit short staffed for a busy night. I didn't get a lot to eat or drink, chips and a soda. This being said they were really good chips and a huge portion for a "side". The sprite was also good. As someone that can't have gluten there offerings are pretty limited for me, but from what I saw many people seemed very happy with their meals and they did look good. A benefit for sure the parking lot across the street. It made it so easy to park without normal struggle you find in older areas of the city. Also, being a lone female, I didn't feel extra concerned. Prior to hitting the Hollywood Theater for a 9:00 movie, me and my group stopped in here.. just down the block. So glad we did! It really has that intimate cozy ambiance authentic pubs are known for. There were bar stools up at the bar, tables with chairs and booths along the wall also. I'd noticed other Yelpers mention delicious Guinness on tap so we ordered a few of those and I was also impressed how many other drafts they offered. All served in a chilled proper pub pint glass (yAAss)! The food was great! My fish & chips were fresh and delicious. The "chips" of course are French fries and these ones are crispy/perfecto. Servers are very accommodating and know how to attend to you in a timely manner + also give you a respectful amount of space. Hadn't been to this place in years, plus the one time we went their fryer was broken. So hardly a great time to leave a review. But now, the time seemed ripe and I was jones-ing for some fish and chips!! The atmosphere at Moon and Sixpence was awesome, it really is a neighborhood hang out bar. There was a group at one end of the bar that was a bit loud, but that comes with the territory and it was fun to watch them. We sat at a booth and had friendly, efficient service. Guess what I ate? Yes, the fish and chips! But seriously, it was terrific: a huge piece of flaky, crispy, flavorful fish. The chips were just as tasty. Seriously, what kind of oil do they use? It was one of the best fish and chips dishes I've ever had and I could not place the flavor completely. My husband got the bangers and mash. I tasted his mash (naughty, I know) and it was delectable. I just loved this place. I was especially excited when I found out that they have Welsh rarebit. It was just a very pleasant experience.

Staff is great, and the pub food is prepared well (grain bowl is probably one of the best deals in the city), but...kind of sucks they don't do sandwiches anymore. Sounds dumb, but now I can't sweet talk the family into hitting the MaS when nobody wants to cook. Live music on Weds. and dart boards are kept in well repair. Couple of solid nitros are regulars (Old Speckled Hen and Guinness) . The nondescript outside hides a vibrant neighborhood pub inside. Please check it out! read more

Dear God the food here is off the hook good British fare. The Bangers and Mash are fantastic. I just had their fish and chips and they were also awesome with a home made tarter. The Chips were crispy outside / tender inside. They have Malt vinegar. Gonna try the rarebit next. The bar pours heavy BTW. Also the service is super Friendly. So glad this place has resumed their full menu! I've made it in three times since the pandemic shutdown, and at first it was a very short menu. But now, bangers and mash, chicken dinner, and sausage roll are once again available - and just as delicious as ever! Most recent trip was a Tuesday night with friends for dinner and drinks. The four of us ordered cheese fries, a meat pie (I think? But don't quote me!), Two burgers, bangers and mash, and a sausage roll. Everything was perfectly done, and as we had a genuine English person with us, I was instructed to dip a bit of my sausage roll in the HP brown sauce. So good! And of course, the European Guinness was available. Service was wonderful too! She could tell we'd not seen each other in a long time and told us to just leave our menus at the edge of the table when we were ready so she wouldn't interrupt us. Our genuine English person that was with us said that the only thing that wasn't authentic here was the service :-) Take note - if you'd like to sit inside, you will be asked to show proof of vaccination.
