I used to come here all the time and even went when they were located elsewhere but as of that lady 4-5 years or so, this place has unfortunately gone down hill. The service, while still pretty good, doesn't make up for the lack in quality when it comes to the food. I've gotten things from here that were often greasier than Taco Bell's food. The quality and flavor of the ingredients are lacking too. As far as ambiance goes, the current location is looking like it needs a fresh coat of paint to make it stand out more. Inside probably needs some work too but it's been a hot minute since I've been inside. The three things it would take to help this place thrive again is maybe new management, a change of location and higher quality ingredients, not completely soaked in oils and grease. read more

I thought the service was great and our waitress was awesome, and the food was pretty good, but it was a bit disappointing to see that the taco bar is now a catering only situation, at least on the lunch menu. I understand the world has definitely changed and things have gotten very expensive, and I also understand that if the volume of diners doesn't justify that expense than it shouldn't happen, but it seems like the "taco bar" part shouldn't be on the sign anymore if that's the case. Tom I have been a customer for 15 years. I am from SanDiego Ca. Of course I was searching for a decent Mexican food restaurant when I first got here. I am a Chef. Most important is the flavor of the food. Not necessarily the authenticity. Aldacos has always been flavorful and satisfies my Mexican craving . The service, on the other hand has not always been up to par. But that is the restaurant business...don't confuse good food and bad service. If I were paying 50.00 per plate I would absolutely complain if the service was bad. Bad service can ruin your meal. I don't think any body goes to Aldocos for great service. I ordered steak fajitas; steak was fatty and chewy, beans and rice were mediocre, tortillas were starting to harden, came with lemons not limes, and every bite had its own interesting flavor... Salsa tasted like marinara sauce. Plus, the fajitas were pricey $13 and they were a smaller portion that most other Mexican joints. My fiancé got the $10.50 buffet, not the priciest, but not the cheapest price. He said everything offered was just 'meh'.... This place doesn't sell liquor, so don't come here for a margarita!! If you want no frills Mexican, here it is. It's cheap, they've got a bangin' buffet, and the food has just the amount of grease in it to qualify as real Mexican, but not enough to make you puke. The only downside to Juve Aldaco's Mexican cusine haven is that you can't get a Dos Equis with your meal. That's right, no EtOH for you drunkies. But otherwise, the food is great and the service is basic, but good, nonetheless. I started frequenting Aldaco's about 6 years ago and every time I took someone else there to eat, they were hooked. We call it "crack tacos" because we're convinced that they lace the refried beans with cocaine or something. My recommended meal? The chicken enchiladas or your plain ol' taco plate (#14). Every time we visit Lansing, we make it a point to check into this delicious little spot. The food is authentic and not overly complex. Part of the attraction for us is the all-you-can-eat buffet, which is chock full of well prepared Mexican favorites. The salsa is robust, the meats are flavorful, and the specialty dishes are all crafted to perfection. A Mexican buffet is a great way to nurse a hangover too! But not Mexican breakfast, They had American breakfast complete with French toast sticks and biscuits and gravy. (Rock hard biscuits, literally Inedible) I went to this Mexican joint expecting Mexican. So I dug through the SIX page menu.... No children's menu, very long, felt like going crazy reading so many entrees. I kept seeing the words "gravy"... I'm like what Mexicans use gravy... What is this nonsense... I ignored it. Kept looking for what makes authentic Mexican, AUTHENTIC MEXICAN and they didn't have it!! They have some whack gravy in substitution of it!! Ladies and gentlemen, they have NO green chili at this Mexican joint!! I'm mindblown!! As in, you go to eat off their six page menu, and there is NO GREEN CHILI for any of their items!! Two words: Mexican. Buffet. Aldaco's has buffet all the time and they also have a menu. On Sunday's they have an even mas grande buffet. They serve Menudo so if you have a hang over- head on in to Aldaco's. They make their own tortillas and everything is really fresh. It is a busy place, but large so they can accommodate the crowds. The hot sauce was at the buffet (not the table) and I'm PRETTY sure it's Frank's Red Hot). The pork on the buffet was by far the best of the alternatives. Why haven't there been more recent reviews, probably because no one comes here anymore. With Los Tres up the street they are no longer the only game on the Southside. The food is really not that bad, but the combination of so so service, outdated decor and a dirty interior doesn't draw you in. I always wonder if owners of failing restaurants like this ever watch Kitchen Nightmares or Restaurant Impossible for tips. It does not appear so. If they did, they might decide to lose the prize games in the entrance or the tacky blowup chili peppers. The hub of this restaurant is the buffet. Not bad as Mexican buffets go, but the pricing scheme has always puzzled me, and no doubt turned some off. There are different prices for nearly every night of the week. Apparently this is due to different offerings, but it does nothing but cause confusion. They should have a weekend price and a weekday price and be done with it. As another reviewer described, the salsa appears to be chopped stewed tomatoes with raw onion. If there is a spice or piece of cilantro, it is hard to detect. The "hot" has a little more to offer, and the best bet is to mix them. Its sad to say, but this place has really gone down hill. Not sure I will be coming back. read more

As for the authenticity and flavor, the only standout is the Caldo de Res (Mexican Beef Soup). The use some good cuts of rib meat in the soup. We were on vacation and looking for a place to eat. There were 3 mexican restaurants within a half mile. This place's parking lot was the most full of the 3, so we went here. Decor: Old & outdated. But, it was clean, and things were not in a state of disrepair. Service: meh. Our waitress was pleasant, I suppose. Our food took 25 minutes to get served to us. Food: The chips were G-R-E-A-S-Y! The "salsa" was canned stewed tomatoes, rough chopped, with some fresh onions, rough chopped and added in. I think a little dried oregeno was sprinkled in as well. That's truly it. Not good at all. When we finally got our meals, I wished they would have served it to us 15 minutes earlier, it might have tasted better. My husband got something basic like a taco and a tostada. The refried beans were dried out. I ordered a breakfast omelet with green peppers, cheese, and bacon. What I got was an omelet that was completely brown on the outside from overcooking, with cheese and green peppers - no bacon. In all fairness, we opted to sit down and order based on the quality of the mexican buffet we saw. It looked like it was absolutely better than Taco Bell. I stopped dinning inside because of this and they recently took 15 minutes to get my to-go order and it was sitting in the window the entire time. Got the buffet. Very good food. Problem is they never refilled the nacho cheese the entire time we were there. Then they ran out of shredded cheese and didn't replenish that. I think most people who have commented on this place must not have had good authentic mexican food! Aldaco's is very greasy and in most cases the food on the buffet is NOT hot enough! I rated them 2 stars because there are a couple of good dishes on the menu. The wait staff really needs to learn some manners at this joint! They are NOT friendly in the least. They seem to spend most of their time visiting with one another. I asked for a refill of my coffee 3x and left never having got the second cup. I eat homemade tortilla's at home almost every day, don't pay for what they call homemade. They simply are not! No respecting mexican chef makes their tortillas so thin and with so much shortening. Being allergic to red and green bell pepper, may have ruined my experience here. I wanted the Roast Beef Wet Burrito, but it had green pepper in it - as did the rice, so I had to pass on that as well and got double refried beans as a replacement. Starting with the chips & salsa - chips were very hard & I could hardly eat them, but the salsa was good -- without green peppers. Ending up ordering the small ground beef wet burrito, the texture was good ( I'm a texture freak ), but almost flavorless as were the beans. I kept looking for the waitress so I could get some hot sauce, but ended up pouring the salsa over everything. Will I go back? Maybe -- IF I don't find any where better. I went Tuesday morning & got 2 breakfast tacos for $5 & some change service was great & food was great. I went the following day which was Wednesday the service was horrible. They charged me $20 for four breakfast tacos that I got the following day for $2 & some change. Bad quality, had to wait for tortillas to be made, my "fresh" tortilla shells were sticking together so the busboy was walking by and he grabbed the shells and separated them with his bare hands. Food is decent. It's buffet style and they are constantly working hard to restock. Well one person seems to be working hard while the wait staff seems to watch the poor guy work. The wait staff seems a little lazy and some are not very friendly. It's not that they are rude, but they don't have any enthusiasm and seem a little lack luster. What bothered me the most is when I watched the bus boy running around as I was on my way out the wait staff was sitting in the front taking, not helping at all. Went there last night. Just plain bad... The buffet was empty except for beans and rice and stuff for nachos. They had hard shells but nothing else. For the price of the buffet, it should be fully stocked. They used to have a great dessert and fruit bar - not no more. Had to wait 10 minutes until someone came to the front to be seated. Once seated it was almost another 10 minutes before someone took our drink order. It seemed like Noone cared.
